I hire weekly from GreenMotion Bristol and the service is excellent, cars are always clean and often very new. Straightforward to deal with making frequent travel frictionless.

If I could give a negative star rating I would. One star is far too many for this horrible company! Do NOT rent from this company. Our experience was awful from start to finish. The car was terrible, the navigation system that we paid extra for was so outdated that it got us lost all the time, they charged us for mileage when our booking confirmation clearly stated unlimited mileage, and they threatened multiple times that if we didn't buy their insurance (we had our own) and got one scratch on the car they would charge us for the full replacement cost of the car. The worst part was that I wrote to them after to advise them of these situations and they put the blame for everything on us. They took no responsibility for their poor products and worse customer service. They absolutely exhausted us with their "not our fault" emails and had the gall to offer us 15% off our next rental as a resolution. I would never give them another dime of my money. A future discount doesn't help me, it helps them. Appalling from start to finish! Do yourself a favor and rent from someone else. Their low prices are a mirage, rent from a reputable company.
If I could give 0 stars I would. DO NOT rent from this car company - it is a total scam. My husband and I had an amazing trip to Iceland, only to be ruined when we returned our rental car which we only drove from the airport to the hotel and back. Upon return, they claimed that we had dented their car (which was covered in dings and dents and scratches) and made us pay the $2600 deductible for a car that is barely worth that before they would let us leave for the airport. We only rented from this company because it was booked through our credit card company and unfortunately failed to do our research ahead of time. If we had, we would have seen the countless reviews of this occurring all the time. I will be posting on every travel /review site that I can find to warn others so they don't have this same terrible experience. In addition to this, we had to wait forever to get and return the car. Their customer service is horrible. Please don't make the same mistake we did.
I returned car at the San Diego Airport with a full tank of gas. They claimed it was not full and charged me $17.50.
I recently rented a vehicle from this company in Krakow Poland and I SHOULD have done my homework and reviewed websites like TRIP ADVISOR. Upon return of the vehicle that had over 34,000 km I was charged over 1,500 euro for blemishes to the car that are no larger than 1-2 mm in size. A chip to the windshield no larger than a 1 mm was 650 EUR. See photo below. The service was horrible and trying to contact them for clarification is impossible. I did use my credit card with damage protection. This company commits fraud and I encourage anyone thinking of using this company to PLEASE review the posts on TRIP ADVISOR and elsewhere to make an informed choice. Run from this company, pay a few extra dollars and be treated with fairness elsewhere. There are many other great companies out there. GREEN Motion is definitely not one of them. Most unfaithful rental company ever! They checked my car and said that everything is ok. I left the country and received a bill of over Euro 1000 for scratches that they found after I left! This is rediculous as I didn't drive much and car was parked on private parking. They also claim that I drove more than 3000km in Latvia. The country is too small for such amount of km and considering me staying in one hotel every day, it's highly impossible. Alltogether this company is fooling it's customers! NEVER EVER AGAIN I SHALL RENT A CAR WITH THEM!
I rented a car from Green Motion via the website trip.com, to be picked up at London City Airport and drive it to Cambridge. I needed only to get to Cambridge; I left it there in a secured parking lot and drove it back to the rental location. So, I was driving it only on the highway and I am sure there was no occasion for any damage.
When I arrived at the location to pick up the car, there was already a furious customer complaining that he was being charged for a scratch which he claimed he didn't cause. Apparently it was a small scratch but he was being charged more than 250 pounds. I was a little alarmed. But, when they showed me the car I was getting, which was a new Toyota Yaris without any damage, I felt relieved. However, when I returned the car, the guy who checked it told me there is a damage. I thought it must be a misunderstanding. But, no; he showed me this minuscule marking on the edge of the wheel rim (less than one cm long and hardly visible; I have taken a photo). I am absolutely sure the marking must have been there and I didn't notice it at the time of pickup because it was simply not visible. He told me I had to pay 135 pounds for the damage. I wonder how many customers before me have paid for the same damage! I was still there when another customer arrived and he was told that an inflator was missing from the trunk. He was extremely angry as he said that he had not even opened the trunk; so, it would have been impossible for anything to get lost from there.
Apparently, these guys offer low prices and then use this dirty trick to earn much more money than the rental fee, using damage insurance clause. It is easy money to earn as the scratches and damages are simply never repaired. I am a university professor and have been travelling all over the world since 1986 and have rented cars in places as far as Thailand, New Zealand, Chili, etc. etc. I have never had an accident or damage to a rented car. I am absolutely sure I didn't damage this time either.
Read similar stories about Green Motion in an article in The Guardian about them (www.theguardian.com/money/2018/jun/09/green-motion-car-hire-bills).
Don't ever rent from Green motion car rental. Reserved a car they gave me the wrong one then charged me 100 and some dollars more for a Nother one that was a piece of junk
According to Green Motions Terms and Conditions, the credit card must be in the name of the lead driver. If the lead driver doesnt have a credit card in their name, then the secondary driver must be present in order to present theirs. When my boyfriend picked up the car, I was not present and I never signed a single paper or electronic document with Green Motion. I honestly dont even know how I was put on as a secondary driver considering I was in another state (with my credit card on my person) at the time of the booking. Now, Green Motion is trying to claim two tolls werent paid and are charging me $150. I called them immediately and told them to removed the charges. They refused, they refused to let me speak to a manager, and they refused to even so much as leave a message for a manager. I immediately reported them for fraud to my bank and got my credit card number changed. I emailed their customer service and basically got told to pound sand. I told them to fix the problem immediately or I would be sure to report them to every site I could. They neglected to fix the problem immediately so now I am trying other sources to fix my problem.
Also, this was not the only issue with Green Motion. The car the attendant gave my boyfriend had a panel that was falling off the front, scratches all over the car, the check engine light was on, the windshield wipers didnt work properly, the gas tank was empty, the alignment was horrendous, and it wasnt even the car my boyfriend were supposed to have received. This place is an absolute scam and has exceedingly corrupt business practices. I believe they should drop all of the supposed charges for the tolls. I also believe my boyfriend should be fully refunded for the money he spent renting the car, unless its in their terms and conditions that they are supposed to give customers unsafe cars that has recently been in an accident/collision. My boyfriend had no choice but to take the car considering they told him it was the last car they had to give out and it was very early in the morning. This experience has been abhorrent. This place WILL scam people.
I rented a car from East midlands airport branch.
When collecting a car weather was bad, snowy and freezing meaning car was collected dirty on the outside. It made it difficult to spot any damage on the car which I checked best I could in bad weather. Green motion excuse was that their car wash was not operational due to bad weather/ frozen pipes etc.
After a look through the car I didn't see any obvious damage apart from what was on the report already. I did however notice warning light showing tyre pressure fault which GM responded to they were aware of the problem, but that was nothing to worry about as they said it was just faulty sensor and they have same problem on many cars. I drove off after that assurance and today after 15 days of rental I returned the car.
On return I was told that all was good apart from a very minor tear on the tyre which I was shown and immediately disputed it as it was very minor tear, hard to see unless looking closely and very likely present when we rented the car on day one. It was snowy that day and bad weather, it could esily be missed due to tyres being low profile and sitting in the snow! Also there was warning light indicating tyre fault which we mentioned ono the day of rental and were fobbed off it's nothing and now suddenly faulty tyre?!
They said on our return that the whole tyre would need replacing for that tiny cut and we would be charged for tyre itself and all sort of fees including 1 day loss of rental as car couldn't be used for the day totalling £300!
We were absolutelly fuming with my husband as we didn't do a lot of mileage on car in 15 days we had it, rental conditions on the day of initial rental were poor and this tiny tear could easily be missed, but person who was dealing with us was unhelpfull at all and he was blaming it on us!
Worst customer service experience ever, horrendous charge for something that was VERY likely there already when we got it, but couldn't be spotted. We would never use green motion again! My husband had a 6 week rental prior to this through green motion and was dealt with by gentleman called Raj who was extremely helpful and friendly 100% recommended. Because of that pleasant first experience we got our second rental through green motion right after returning hgusband's first car. Right off the start of my rental everything was going wrong. Car I originally wanted was not available, Mateusz G. Was dealing with us and told us we had to get MPV which was next class up and because we did not want it as it was completely unsuitable for us, we had to get a premium car which we needed to pay for £100 extra, only because they didn't have what we actually booked and he was unwilling to scrap extra charge for us. We told him we were not interested in renting premium and paying extra, ready to walk away to get rental alsewhere at the airport, but then he told us we wouldn't get refund as we were refusing a car which was available to us. After hearing that we were forced to pay extra and get premium with higher excess charge as we could not afford to lose money we already paid for rental! Already unhappy from that moment on it only got worse as when we went to collect the car it was filthy, fuel tank was nearly completely empty and tyre pressure warning light was on. That didn't seem to bother Mateusz G as he wasn't the one paying for rental. Horrible experience and will strongly discourage anyone to rent a car from green motion.
I rented a car from Green Motion Manchester on 28th Feb. When I went to pick up the car it was covered in Snow and Ice. The attendant apologised that they had been unable to clean the car because of the weather. They gave me a form noting that the car had scratches on one side and damage to a wheel. When I returned the car they found a small scratch on the lower rear of the car (this area was covered in Snow when I took the car) When I protested that I had not caused any damage they then said that they would let me off with the wheel damage (which was previously noted) but, I Had to pay GBP 300 for the scratch to the rear. After a few words, they came back and said that they had checked the previous 5 rentals and the scratch was not there. But, they had not checked nor cleaned the car when I took it.
When I argued this the manager asked me, why I did not clear all the snow off it to check!
I was also charged for a full tank of Petrol when the tank only contained 2/3 of a tank. I accept that I could have returned and told them about that, but, after a 4 hr flight delay, I could not be bothered. I am just mentioning that as another of the shady practices this company employ.
Yours faithfully.
Robbie Howard
I'm trying to organise enough poeple to come together to start a class action against green motion there is a facebook page class action against green motion if you go to it and ask to join I wil add you If we get enough people together over time we take it further I was caught by them too
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS.
They offer you crazy cheap prices and make the money on finding damage to the car that already existed.
I was charged £600 for a new windscreen because there was a stone chip in the corner of the screen that must have been there before I took the car.
1. A stone hitting the window is not something you'd miss.
2. A chip smaller than a 5 pence piece can be repaired for £60.
Don't just take my word for it, there was recently a documentary about the very company on Channel 4. Search "Super Shoppers Series 4 Episode 4" and you'll see examples of how they scour the car to find damage, even to the extent of laying under the car with torches to find a scratch they can charge you for. In some cases they have charged £2500 for scrapes and marks that were already there.

Do not use this company. After about 2 months I noticed a charge of 150+ Dollars on my credit card from Green Motion.
I called them directly and asked for the manager. When he got on the phone he rudely told me that the reason why he charged my credit card was because I had a traffic ticket while in Prague. He said he will email it to me ASAP. Why wasn't I notified before they decide to charge my card? It's a scam! They never email me a traffic ticket as he promised nor did I ever hear from them again.
I disputed the charges with my credit card provider. BE AWARE!
Do not rent with them! Dont trust them.! Triple check your car and take A LOT of pictures.
They played friendly then when you bring the car back they found 1 scratch and charged you 1000£.
Never hire from GREENMOTION car hire. We had a car on hire from Glasgow airport. I wanted to extend the hire by one day, I was quoted 100 pound over the phone for one day. The ordinal hire was for 8 days for a total of 71 pounds for the 8 days, I said yeah to the excessive amount as it was easy to contiine the hire, however they took 200 pounds from my account and when I asked them to return the money to my car they total me this what was quoted over the phone! I can assure you this was not the amount quoted!
They also took another 450 0pound on the return of the car for scrapped alloys, we never scratched them.
THIS COMPANY ARE CON MEN- DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
The only reason I gave them a one star as it's does not have. 5 or0.0 starts!
Rented a car in milano central station, had a nice conversation with the 2 ladies at the desk.it was very cheap and i took photos, cause it was full of scratches, which were not mentioned. They upgrated the description. 3 days later i took the car back, and they told me that everything was fine. I was anxious cause they kept a 1500 euros deposit from my credit car.One month later i called them to ask why the deposit wasn' t refunded yet. They told me they had a problem'they would do it in few days.So it was.one week later they withdrew 72 euros from my credit card. I called them and they told me there was a scar in the car. I told them it was not possible. I could prove it with the photos i had. Then they told me that the damage was in the interior of the car?. I should call again to get to a supervisor... next day the damage was under the car... i gave up... beware of these bandits
We just hired and returned car in London - I and many others we witnessed have experienced such poor service AND WORSE total rip-off when return car. They tried to charge me GBP 2,000+ excess (when rental cost only GBP 300) for so called stone damage which I strongly disagree with. It was impossible to see and needed to look thru radiator grill to see it! We had no issues with car, so really doubt their claims... However they already have your credit card and no choice but so sign car rental return form. It no surprise they are low-cost since they make their Profit thru charging customers on the return
BEWARE of Green Motion! Take pictures... protect yourself.
In planning our trip to Spain and Iceland we again did the drill on whether or not we should pay for insurance on the rental car. I called our Citi Visa "Costco" card customer service and they sent us a letter (via email) which stated that we had US$50,000 coverage on rentals in Spain and Iceland when we use their card. They said we should decline all coverage offered through the rental company, but even if they required that we pay for their minimal coverage they would deal directly with them in the event of any incident.
The rental in Spain through Hertz was uneventful.
We arrived at KEF / Reykjavik, Iceland early on July 31, the shuttle to the Green Motion location went well as did paperwork to get our rental car. The insurance pitch was pitched but not hard sell, albeit the cloud of confusion was cast and there was non-recognition of the letter which I presented to them from our Citi Visa. When I declined all of their insurance options, I was required to put a ISK 290,000 (US$2,750) depost on my credit card and cautioned that any damage to the car would be taken from the deposit. I was also asked to thoroughly inspect the car and add any existing damage to the carbon copy sheet, bring it back in to the counter, sign and retain the carbon copy. It was 12:30am when I inspected the vehicle (one of the four hours of darkness in late July in Reykjavik) and noted two additional minor dings. The representative also recommended that in the morning during day light I take pictures all around the vehicle. That was a first for me but when we got up we took the 360-degree photos.
When we returned the car on Thursday August 3rd at about 3:00pm the representative took an inordinately long time inspecting the vehicle and upon completion he informed me that there was new damage. I went out and we looked at it together, a slight ding (1.5" x 1/16" deep) on the passenger side about in the middle of the car right beneath the door. I stated the I really didn't think I caused it and I called my wife out to join us and pull up the photos. When she did we all agreed the damage was apparent in our photos. Then the representative said that the photos were not taken in their parking lot and that the damage could have occurred prior to the time of the photos while the car was in our possession. I replied that it was dark when we got the car and that we were advised by his co-worker to take the photos the next day when it was light. He then went off saying no one in Green Motion would give us those instructions and that anything could happen from the time the car left their lot and when we took our pictures. I again reiterated what his co-worker recommended. My wife then said that this feels like a scam/rip-off and our review of this experience will not be a good one.
We then returned to the office and he continued to rant on about anything could of occurred prior to the photos and no one would have told me to take the photos after driving the car off their lot. THEN he said he didn't like the idea of us giving them a bad review and if we were going to do that he might as well charge us for the damage, he looked at me and said, "you know I could" in an aggressive intimidating manner.
At that point I said I don't want to discuss the matter any further, wrap up the paperwork, we have a plane to catch (I was there with my wife and two of our grandchildren 10 and 12 for more than 40 minutes and I was their only customer at the time). He did a few more keystrokes and looked up and said, "just catch the next van" and I asked if I was going to be given any type of receipt and he said, "do you want one" and I replied yes. He then gave me a receipt stating there was no new damage to the car.
After being called a liar repeated times and being threatened, we DO NOT recommend doing business with Green Motion.
Worst experience at Greenmotion Birmingham International Airport. When the car was returned the guy told us we would get the 30GBP back we had paid as a guarantee in 4 or 5 days. Two weeks later, and after an exchange of more than 15 emails, they not only make different excuses to avoid refunding the money but even state that they can't find our booking.
The car stopped working after just a few km. They didn't want to help s at first but did after many phone calls and hours waiting. We don't get any compensation for this at al. STAY AWAY FROM GREEN MOTION.
