I tried to cancel a reservation over a week ahead because my car was hit and have no car to go there and getaroom lied and said if Hampton Inn says they will give a refund they will do it. I contacted Hampton Inn and said they were lying and ripping me off. All charged a ridiculous non existent recovery fee for housekeeping and linens. I fully intend to notify Hampton corporate and let them know this website is ruining there reputation.
Hope you're not traveling for business and need a receipt. Customer service person was so rude, I've never heard anyone that rude in the customer service world. Trying to get to the person to get a receipt was treacherous enough, once I did, a nightmare!
The lady that helped me was very friendly and provided me with all the information I needed. The hotel deal was really great. I was very impressed with her attitude and knowledge of the hotel itself.
The young lady that helped me on the phone was very professional, courteous, and helpful! She had a very caring attitude... definitely liked doing my business with her!
Thank you Claire for the great feedback! We appreciate the service opportunity.
Sincerely,
Getaroom
I called the phone number listed on the direct hotel webpage in order to make the reservations for a friend of my brothers that was arriving in town late that evening. At no time was I advised that I was dealing with Getaroom.com. The reason why I was calling in my reservations directly and not booking online is because I live locally and I wanted the best rate possible at Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Laguna Hills California.
When the guest showed up at the hotel reception they had no record of her reservations. After insisting that there was a reservation the clerk quoted a rate of $129 a night, which is the proper hotel rate, while getaroom.com was charging $201 per night plus other outrageous service fees. At this point we had been told that there would be a confirmation email which we never received. Miraculously two days after we reported the rip off scam we got an email confirmation from Getaroom.com. This email confirmation had never arrived before. Apparently Getaroom.com has the ability to backdate emails in order to scam their customers a little better.
We also never received a breakdown of what the charges were going to be. This miracle email did have a breakdown of charges since we had mentioned the lack of proper documentation.
The initial reservation was made for four nights (August 5th thru August 9,2019) yet upon check-in we told the clerk that the guest would probably check out the following day. Indeed, the guest checked out August 6th 2019. Total stay - only 1 night, not 4.
The clerk at the front desk refused to close out the bill after one night but instead insisted that we hang onto the key to that room for the four nights so they could rip us off for $1018. 15. This is absurd as there was no guest in that room any of the additional nights. I have no problem paying for the night that my guest was there but, I do have a problem having to pay for an additional three nights for a guest that was not taking up a room at the hotel. Getaroom.com refuses to charge me just one night as well as the hotel acts like they cannot close out my bill until Friday August 9,2019 which makes my bill in the amount of $1081. 15. At this very moment I am being ripped off and paying for a room that no one is using.
Another important point is that upon registration the hotel clerk never asked for any ID whatsoever or verification of credit card or any important document as the scam had already been processed.
I was very satisfied with customer service, Very friendly, easy to explain what I wanted and the person on the other end from customer service help me exactly what I needed. Thank you so much
Hi Guadalupe, Thank you for the great feedback! We appreciate the service opportunity.

I am editing my original review to share that the issue was resolved in a positive way. I received a call from Getaroom and was able to cancel my reservation and receive a refund. I still recommend that Getaroom communicate in a more transparent way to avoid these situations
I was deceived on Monday by get a room thinking that I was booking directly. I called 30 min after I realized what had happened and since than have spoken to them 4 times and I am still not able to get the cancellation. I have called the hotel and they do not have my reservation. The reply I keep getting is that they have sent an email and are waiting for a response and that the hotel will have my reservation 72 hours before my arrival, which is insane because I am not going to go all the way to Venice and risk not having a room
Hi Daniela,
Thank you for the service opportunity. We do take our customers' reviews very seriously and we thank you for updating your review of your customer service experience to reflect your satisfaction with your full refund. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Getaroom
Was quoted one price and charged a higher price. Have sent a complaint to have charge adjusted! Awaiting there reply!
I booked a room for two night. I called later to simply extend my stay by one night and it turned into a whole, complex thing. It turns out the rep (who was very hard to understand) had to book a whole separate reservation just to simply add one day. I mentioned that I wanted to avoid having to check out one day and check back in the same day (check out time is 10:00 a.m. and check-in time is 3:00 p.m.). After some discussion, she told me that it would indicate on the reservation that the reservation continues for another two days. Unfortunately, when I received the reservation there was nothing written on there that there is another reservation related to the same stay. Then I called the hotel itself and they couldn't do anything because it was "booked through a third-party." This is for a wedding and I called the reservation number on the weeding website, thinking it would be a Hilton. Had no idea I was even using a third-party at the beginning. Next time you make a reservation, make sure you understand who you are talking to before you begin.
Update to review: I appreciate the call back from the customer service person, Carrie. She was able to refund the majority of the fees, making the cost of the room closer to what I would have paid reserving directly through hotel. Thank you.
Would give negative stars if possible! I thought I was booking a room through Doubletree website directly. They did a great job making their website look like it was doubletree. I only discovered it wasn't Doubletree after I submitted my card info and saw the fees that weren't previously disclosed. Then found out that it was non-refundable and I couldn't cancel the reservation even though it was only a few minutes after I made the reservation and my stay was two weeks away! VERY DECEPTIVE!
Made a booking through what I thought was the hotel website, only to find out that I had actually been booted off to the "get a room" site.
Made the booking, and then once I received my booking confirmation, I realised that they had charged me over $250 extra worth of hidden fees!
Luckily I had "free cancellation and full refund" which I inquired about through email. No response given, just an automated email to say they'd cancelled the booking.
Initially I wasn't worried, figured I'd be getting my refund.
Several emails sent, they're now saying the payment was void and so there is no refund to be given. However, a total of $713.96 has been removed from my account for the booking and not returned.
They're now wiping their hands of the problem saying I should take it up with my banking provider!
Did they just scam me?
May update my review if I ever see my money again.
I thought I was booking directly with the hotel. Website is very deceitful and even used a very similar url to the actual resort. The price I thought I was paying just ended up being the nightly rate, but was very unclear while I was booking - was staying for 3 nights so I paid 3x more than what I thought I was paying. I called immediately to cancel and was told that I would not get my money back (which was a LOT of money). Was told I need to get approval from resort directly to not be charged anything. Got proof in an email from the hotel and they still would not refund my money. It is now 2 months later and I am still battling with them. Biggest mistake I have ever made! Also, the hotel hasn't gotten anything out of this deal - so if the hotel isn't getting any cut they aren't being honest with the hotel either. It's a shame there are companies like this! And I might just HAVE to sue them!
I accidentally put in the wrong date when I booked a room with getaroom.com. I called within two minutes to cancel and I was told that they could not cancel. Their customer service blamed the hotel for not being able to cancel. The hotel is not able to cancel third party reservations. Getaroom.com are the ones who did the transaction, accepted my money and claim to not be able to cancel. Their call menu has an option for cancellations. When you get to the person who does the cancellations, they claim they can not do the cancellation. A simple mistake with a touch screen costed $71.50.
Thought I was booking a room directly with the Heathman Hotel in Kirkland, WA (even had their website in the address bar) for $265.68 per night. Paid with credit card and charged an extra $113.56 "Tax Recovery Charge and Service Fee" for a non-refundable total of $379.24 from getaroom.com, an entity I had no idea I was dealing with. Called the invoice customer service # and they explained it was basically a "resort fee." Asked to speak with a manager and told none was available. Called again and after much haggling and excessive hold times they agreed to refund $26 and emailed me a help ticket/link to zen desk.com which required sign up/registration. Then spoke with hotel front desk who told me they had never heard of getaroom.com and said the hotel doesn't charge a resort fee. Struck me as a case for the Attorney General.
When we printed our confirmation, rate was over $ 100 from what we had understood was our total cost. Very misleading. Then we Tried calling the 800 number but no person would pick up phone. We tried calling 3 times.
Stay away from this website. Should have reviewed BEFORE we booked.
This is a total scam - they charged me $1944 but the cost for the hotel was only $1325! When I called about the discrepancy they said that there was nothing that I could do about it.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AND BE VERY CAREFUL THAT YOU USE THE HOTEL'S SITE AND NOT ONE OF THESE SITES THAT PRETEND TO BE THE REAL HOTEL SITE.
Update 2: Received refund of charges that were in excess of the state and local taxes. But only after I used this website to place a 1 star review. Did not get anywhere when placing a call to the getaroom customer service line. Except nice music on hold. Could have saved myself time and effort if I took the time to make sure I was making a reservation on the hotel's website or by calling the hotel directly. Turns out the hotel website offered the room $40 less expensive than what I paid. Thanks to Sitejabber for helping to get attention from Carrie W. The Customer Care and Escalations re.
See below for update 1 dated 18 Jul 2019...
Initial Review: Booked a room with this site that appeared to be a Hyatt website. After making the booking saw taxes and fees were out of line with Texas tax rates. After researching a bit I found the site I booked with and placed a call to Getaroom customer service to get an explanation. After being on hold for quite some time I did not get an agent to pick up the phone. While trying to cancel on the website saw there was a no cancellation statement. Any major hotel chain I've used offers cancellation within 24 hours of the reservation. Unless I hear from Getaroom I will protest charges with my credit card bank and submit additional one star reviews on other sites.
Update 1: On the positive side I got immediate attention from the Sitejabber negative review. I will be receiving a partial refund in accordance with what I requested of Carrie from getaroom customer service. The latest email states I should see the refund on credit card in 3-5 days. When that shows up on my credit card I will up the rating from 1 to 3 stars for the prompt response to my Sitejabber review. In the future I will be more careful to check that I am booking directly with the hotel. Third party hotel reservations systems sometimes are difficult to distinguish from the hotel site if you aren't carefully looking at the site details.
The room was not clean at all. The shower had not been touched. The floors were dirty, you had to wear shoes. The refrigerator and mirror in bathroom was nasty. There were dirty washcloths left in the bathtub. There was no toilet tissue, it was only for one night so we survived. I definitely would not go back!
Agent booked me rooms that I never requested or agreed to! Wanted a two bedroom suite and booked me 2 separate hotel rooms. Spoke with supervisor who is requesting the recorded conversation between me and the agent! Still waiting. No need to book third party!
Update, I received a call from the rep at Get a room stating I would be reimbursed the fee less state and hotel tax, I did receive $162.00 (241.72 less the correct tax rate). I emailed the rep thanking her for doing the right thing, not for her assistance since this should of never occurred.
I thought I was booking directly with DoubleTree-Hilton via their site, apparently "Get a Room" redirected my reservation to them, there was no notification of this. In calling them they stated they had a contract with DoubleTree to redirect, checking with DoubleTree this was a lie. They charged me over $240.00 in what they called "Tax Recovery & Services fees" stating this was mandatory and they could not disclose per contract with the hotel... again a lie. From now on I am only calling in for my reservations. I am out the $240 plus, they said they could reimburse me $58 ONLY but again that never occurred. They need to be shut down.
Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.
Answer: I'm definitely in. There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.
Answer: Call 800-468-3578 but good luck. They are scammers
Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
