I was looking to book a room directly through Radisson, and I was directed to getaroom website. I thought I was dealing with Radisson. After selecting the room and hitting "accept" the total cost came to $40 more than expected. When I received the confirmation email, it showed that there were "service fees". This was not disclosed when I booked the room. I tried to cancel and they refused.
When I got to the hotel, they told me the room was booked through Priceline! Why even use GetARoom when they turn around and book the room through Priceline, and then charge you $40 to do it? Total RIP OFF!
So, I rarely get upset but I booked a hotel through get a room.com accidentally (their advertisement made it appear to be the hotel I booked at). Anyway, I was asking questions on the fees quoted and told them I needed a room for 2 adults and 2 children. The lady came back and said, "Oh I can give you 25% off". I was like "cool let's book it" thinking I was talking to the hotel directly (my mistake). Anyway, I got off the phone and received the confirmation. The lady left off two children and booked us a petite queen room which would not hold my children. I immediately called back - like 3 minutes later and explained and asked for an upgraded room (willing to pay an upgrade). I was hit with a big NO and that it was non-refundable as of an hour ago (before I even called) and they would have to open an investigation. I could not speak to a manager either until Monday morning (the same time we were leaving for the area we were going to stay). I called the hotel directly and they helped me through it... but consumer BE AWARE - this company is a scam!
I booked a few minutes ago. I thought i was booking directly with hotel. Quoted rate was 196/night. After clicking confirm the "new" nightly rate of $225/night PLUS $100 in "tax and recovery fees" were added even though there was no disclosure about it prior to confirming the reservation. I called and asked to cancel my reservation but hit the usual "scripted" denial. Lessoned learned and I'll be telling my story on every social media platform I belong to. STAY AWAY FROM GETAROOM!
They charge a huge fee they do not tell you about after you agree to a charge. Plus I did not even choose this site. Lawsuit time!
We called the Best Western number on the first Google page and thought we were talking to them. Turns out it was this $#*! $#*! company that gave completely wrong info about applying our membership credits and getting a 20% discount but we only found out at check in that they are a third party and now we can't apply the discount. Could not get them to answer phone to even ask questions. Will be reporting to BBB.
Reserved a room. Over a week later the hotel still did not have my reservation. This was after calling customer service for assistance and no resolution. Calling is a joke, no options for direct help, agents hang up on you, extreme hold times. Their site says to call if you attempt to check in and the hotel does not have your info, so you then have to wait half an hour on hold to *maybe* get help with another room while you are stranded?
This place is a terrible site I recommend everyone use whatever other site you can site is not very friendly and I was on hold for a very long time
I had previously given a poor review for getaroom.com. I received a call from them to rectify the problem. The woman was kind and said they would reimburse me for the amount I was over charged for our room, with an explanation of how this happened. Very satisfied with how she resolved the problem.
I thought I was calling Econo Lodge in Rapid City, South Dakota. Was quoted a rate of 100.84. Upon getting to the motel they told me the rate was 63.75 and didn't why I was told it was 100.84. Come to find out my call went straight to Get A Room third party service. I would never intentionally use a third party! They said I accepted the rate over the phone and that is that! The motel told me these companies are very tricky about getting their phone numbers in hotel and motels websites. I feel cheated and defrauded. I will report them to the BBB. Don't know what else to do. They are scam artists!!
I thought that this was the hotel's website, but realized after booking that it was a paid ad post and a third party. After getting an email confirmation for a reservation, I noticed a $300+ fee that was included. Upon reading the fine print, I quickly realized that this was a scam. I called the 800 number and talked to a costumer service agent. After complaining, they said they would waive $75. I asked to talk to a manager, was put on hold, then told they weren't available. I was then offered 20% off of the total expense. I refused and demanded either a full refund or the entire fee to be waived. I then asked to speak to the manager again and was told they were still unavailable. Finally, I was promised that the entire fee would be refunded, but only after 5-7 days after check out. I am very skeptical that I will have a reservation and get a refund on the fee, but will find out in a month once I complete my stay.
** Update: I received the refund of the fee after checking out. I stand by my earlier comments and would not recommend this service/site to anyone.
I called to get the online price and the representative said yes they had that room so I told him I wanted to book 3 and he gave me more expensive rooms that I could not afford. They said they cancelled them and they didn't and haven't returned my money
When I called to reserve a nightly stay to attend a "hunger summit", on August 6-7, the person made the reservations for JULY 6-7.
I made the reservation early to assure a available room!
I did not need a room for JULY 6-7, but have been charged for it due to the persons mistake.
When booking a room in Chicago, I proceeded to hit the completion button thinking I was getting a decent price. However, what was added on unbeknownst to me, was a hidden 98$ fee in addition to the regular fees. We had friends that booked the same room on other sites that paid $100 less! After numerous complaint calls- we were not refunded one cent and were basically told there was nothing they could do! Please DO NOT place a reservation with this site! By the way- the phone call to dispute this price was placed minutes after the deal was made!
How did I end up here when I thought I called Hampton Inn? I'm glad I did, as the clerk was MOST helpful!
Did not get reservation correct the first time. Had to cancel and re make reservation.!
Easy site to use and awesome customer service I had one little problem the same day I was speaking to a live customer service rep thank you for helping I wil definitely use this site in the future
The price was very good and very easy to book it. Overall I am satisfied with the service. I would like to recommend it as it accepts payments in US Dollars it's convenient for international travelers to book at no extra convergence fees or currency exchange
After my initial complaint the company contacted me and resolved my issue to my satisfaction. They were very courteous and I am happy with the outcome.
How is this place still in business! I had no idea I wasn't booking directly with the hotel, went to change my reservation and was told I couldn't, and when I questioned that policy they became very secretive and told me there was a third party involved and they couldn't tell me how to contact that third party to complain. Then I looked more closely at my charge and realized there was a service fee of almost 40%! What the...? This place needs to be investigated and shut down. I'm filing a complaint with the BBB, and I've also alerted my credit card company to be on the lookout for charges from this place as it is a scam.
My original review: Getaroom.com is a scam. They charge an outrageous service fee that they do not disclose until you receive your confirmation. I then called 6 hours after I received the confirmation to cancel a reservation that was prepaid in full and they refused and refused to refund the fraudulently charged service fee. I asked to speak to a supervisor, was told that none was available, then when I insisted I was put on hold and thereafter was cut off. What's worse is that I thought I made the reservation online with the hotel directly. Shameful. I will be extremely careful never to get to their site again.
Update: I decided to call again and speak to another customer service agent who actually called the hotel (though the hotel told me they had nothing to do with reservations owned by 3rd party bookers, so I am suspect), but after I stayed on hold another 5 minutes, they actually cancelled my reservation. The next morning a very nice customer service agent called me. She understood the issue and really could not have been nicer. She asked me to withdraw this review and I said I was happy to update it. Despite how nice and helpful she was, the fact remains that this site, in part, preys on people who think they are making a reservation on the hotel website and then charges a large fee (in my case, $136 or more than 20% of the room charge), in addition to the hotel room and tax. This charge is not obvious when the reservation is made. In view of this fee, who would use this site other than someone who didn't realize what they are doing?
A bunch of thieves: during the booking they listed a certain price for the room and then I noticed they charged me almost 60% of the room price additionally for what they call "Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees". During the booking process, these "fees" were not shown anywhere.
According with the EU legislation, all these "additional fees" shall be included in the listed price, but these guys are thinking are above the law!
After I have canceled the booking (I read about people complaining that they were charged for "additional" services that they have never received after the trip - so, I did not wanted to become part also of that category) - they did not refund anything! They kept all the money!
They showed the cost of the hotel room as $95 and they ended up charging me $50 more for tax and service fee. So, I end paying $150 per day for a room that is marketed as $95 per day. They would not refund. Beware of this website. I am going to call the hotel and let them know about my $#*!ty experience with them as I was routed to this website from the hotel website.
Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.
Answer: I'm definitely in. There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.
Answer: Call 800-468-3578 but good luck. They are scammers
Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
