I booked one hotel room for a hotel in Shrewsbury and had no confirmation from this site. I then booked again later and then my first booking materialised. With both of these bookings a large fee was added for tax. I immediately cancelled both the rooms and get a refund and was told this wasn't possible even though it was the same day and the booking was for over a week away. I later received the tax back for one room but am still waiting for the other. I have tried calling them but have discovered they have blocked my number. I therefore got someone else to call them on my behalf but they refused to engage, saying they will only talk to me! How can I do this when they won't take my calls?! This site offers very low prices but fails to deliver - at present I'm out of pocket by £140 and still have no room! Surely this cannot be legal?

GetARoom should provide the ACTUAL amount that will be charged to your credit card when booking. I paid more here than I would've on other sites, but chose this site because of its (dishonest) lower price. GetARoom advertised the price I could have gotten directly from the hotel and then they added almost a 50% fee on top of that. After weeks of back & forth and a negative review here, I received an $85 credit. Ask for and keep your hotel receipt.

The WORST customer service ever. Booked a room. They charged me over forty dollars in taxes and fees. Called immediately to cancel, and they refused to cancel. WAIT... this is the best part... they said that they COULD cancel the room, but they couldn't refund any of my money. How is that helpful in any way? PS Single mom traveling overnight for my aunt's funeral. What a horrible company.

This company is deceptive and fraudulent. Never presented me a confirmation page to check the charges before booking. Instead, my card was charged 50% more for the room than the advertised rate. Wouldn't refund the charges when I called to cancel immediately. Booking was made literally minutes before that but this is what they do. The ol' bait and switch. They are total scammers and should be put out of business for fraud. Lodged a formal complaint with BBB of which there are over 700 complaints!

Booked a room through them at a rate of $82. Site said free cancellations up to 24 hours before the booked day. Got a confirmation email the next day stating a charge of 118.16. WOW almost 50% in fees. I was very upset. I called them and they offered $10 refund, I declined. Called back and was a little more vocal and then they offered a $30 refund which I agreed to. I called the hotel directly and the original price that was advertised was what I would have got directly from the hotel INCLUDING TAXES. So they advertised the price I could have gotten directly from the hotel then they added almost 50% fee on top of that. Now I was really pissed so I called back and demanded a total refund which they were still reluctant to give. However once I pushed the point that the website said free cancelations I was then given a total refund.
These guys are crooks and scammers with outright deceitful tactics. It was not worth the headache. STAY AWAY!

This review applies to a reservation for February 2020. My friend booked the exact same room through Hotels.com and paid almost $70.00 less. I called the 800 number and spoke with a lady that said she would give me 10% off or $32.00 off, that was all she would/could do. I asked her if she was ok with me cancelling my reservation with them and going through Hotels.com, she said no, but that's all she could do. I also told her that I did a reservation for January with them and my fees and taxes were less on that one with a more expensive room... nothing! I will ALWAYS go through Hotels.com or another source. If I could have chosen another hotel chain, I would have!

Amount for fees was a shock and did not even know I was using their service. I thought I was on the hotel reservations website. Very upset. Scam! I want a refund! Reported to Holiday Inn Express.

EDIT: I was contacted very promptly by customer service and they gave me a small refund for some of the fees. Some they could do nothing about because it was the resort itself, not the booking agency. I appreciate their quick attention, and realize that, because I booked via my phone, I did not see some of their disclosures regarding fees, so that is an error on my end. When booking online, I need to remember that it is a coordinated effort between the booking site and the resort/hotel to show the lowest price possible, and that taxes and some fees will inevitably be tacked on at the end. It is up to me and other customers to do their due diligence (and math) to truly compare rates across the multiple different websites possible to really find the best deal. But it is up to the sites and resorts to show the total amount to be charged BEFORE credit card information is already sent and the reservation is already booked, and not just on the confirmation email. All in all, even with the added fees, but especially with the refund they graciously provided, GetARoom was definitely one of the better sites to book on. All my other issues are with the resort itself, and not GetARoom. Thank you for your quick resolvement of my issue! And, full disclosure: the rep on the phone did not ask me to change my review, she only focused on resolving my issue and clearing up the misunderstanding. I am editing this review because of the prompt and pleasant response and the partial refund promised. I will re-edit if the refund does not clear in my account.

Led us to believe we were directly dealing with Holiday Inn Express in Lebec California. Confirmation from getaroom included an extra $54.85 for "Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees", on a room costing $139.66. Even the $139.66 was significantly inflated from what the hotel would have charged for a direct reservation. Buyer beware, don't deal with getaroom.

Thought I was booking through legit hotel booking site. Their Tel.# pops up under the hotel site. They wouldn't take AARP, said it would negate their"special price." Later was able to call the hotel directley and their price was cheaper than getaroom's price. Called them to try to cancel and get a refund. They would cancel, But no refund.

The Hotel is nice and hospitible, we have stayed there many times. However this time we booked through GetARoom, which was the worst booking experience we have ever had! Normally we have booked directly with the hotel, which allows noon checkout and any remaining reservation days cancelled for patients who learn they can go home earlier than expected. For us through GetARoom it meant we had to pay an extra day that we didn't use. A checkout clerk noted that some unfortunate patients who have booked with an outside online provider have ended up paying for almost an entire week if they learn that they finished up their appts early, or that they have to come back later! GetARoom is a candidate for Better Business to review
I booked three reservations through this site not realizing it wasn't the Drury Inn site until after booking. I had three reservations which after several helpful phone calls from Carrie, I was promised a refund for all reservations. I haven't seen the refunds for each reservation yet but certainly hope the site honors their promise. This misunderstanding could have been avoided had I known on the front end this is a third party booking firm. The Drury folks indicated getaroom.com is part of Priceline. I have found these sites to be useful on occasion and have used them successfully. In this booking experience, I found the cancellation window to be much more narrow than actual hotel site. Given several family health issues and unpredictable weather where we are flying, I needed to be able to cancel should the need arise. Getaroom.com required a 48 hour cancellation and hotel gave us until noon on day of arrival with no penalty. I am sorry for the confusion but certainly appreciated the response I got from getaroom.com and Carrie. Now to see if refunds issued.

I've been using Getaroom for years. They usually have the best prices and availability. Not to mention you can call in and speak with an agent for more information and help.
Long story short after a couple of attempts on their part, the company did call me back. The person was very polite and no arguements, she did refund the improperly charged amount. I appreciated the response from the company. After checking my credit card and seeing the refund I'm completing my agreement to update my review.
We clicked on what we thought was the hotel website. $89 for the room advertised. When we got the confirmation email, we were charged $138. We knew we would be paying taxes but not some bogus "recover fee and services charge". When checking out at the hotel, I asked what I should have paid with taxes, $102. You can do the math $36 ripped off. That's almost %50 over charged.
I did call the getaroom company as soon as I got the confirmation, all the said they could do was give me back a one time, 10% refund off the the $89 price, which was $9. But this was all the help they could give me. Horrible reception on the phone call and they were hard to understand. My next step will be contacting the state consumer protection off to lodge a complaint, and also the bbb.
The get a room system is not clear or transparent in its final price, because it sends a reservation indicating that a vat has been paid, but once you check in the hotel you have to pay a local vat, which You pay two vat´s, one international get a room and another local hotel in this case of Argentina, that price is not the one published in the offer you buy, so it is fraudulent advertising, it is not clear and it is misleading.

Getaroom.com has a website for every hotel that is almost the same as the hotel's website. I was booking a room at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles, La through what appeared to be their direct website. Whenever the reservation was complete and I looked at my emailed confirmation I was shocked to see that there was $110 service fee. That is when I realized that I had been hijacked by a scam website goldennuggetcharles.guestreservations.com. I immediately called the number on the confirmation and found out that it was actually getaroom.com. There is no refunds for cancellation and the person I spoke to basically said I should have known that I was booking through getaroom.com and too bad. I cancelled the reservation through this scamming website and called my credit card company. I am disputing the charge. My credit card company has received other complaints about being scammed into believing that getaroom was legitimately the actual hotel site and then being charged $110 service charge for booking through them. My credit card company made a three way call to getaroom and the representative helping me witnessed first hand the scam. Once you have called this company about your booking, you will never be able to reach a live person by phone again.
I called the hotel direct and made a new reservation and they have had several people call about this getaroom hijack scam.
This company is owned by Hotels.com. I will NEVER use hotels.com again either.

When I called I was trying to reach the hotel directly. The person I reached said he was at the hotel. He was not. He flat out lied. Then the person I was talking to started acting like we had a bad connection. I was forced to hang up. I called back. The next person I talked to could not answer all of my questions and could not remember what she was doing as far as making my 4 reservations but I do not believe that she lied to me. I am REALLY hoping that I do not have any problems with my reservation when we get to the hotel.

Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.

There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
