I booked through EconomyBookings and after reading poor reviews on legit sights, I called my bank and asked to have the charged cancelled. Well, it turns out that my bank had blocked it already do to fraud prevention. Thank goodness. The prices were too good to be true.
I have been a customer of EconomyBooking for many years, and they have generally been reliable. However, there was one exception: they partnered with a questionable company (Klass Wagen in Romania) that operated under their name.
I paid $382.17 upfront and was told I would owe $0 when I picked up the car but Easirent (the actual car rental company) charged me $518.99, $400 to drop the car off at a different location (even though I booked it to go to the different location on EconomyBookings.com) and then miscellaneous fees and taxes amounting to $118.99. I had to pay this in order to get a car and this put me in a difficult situation. I paid only because I knew Economy Bookings should refund me but they have not. They clearly said I would owe $0 on pickup but I had to pay more than what I paid them ($518.99). I reached out to their customer support over two weeks ago and they still haven't responded. I put in a complaint on another review site and their customer service team commented saying I should reach out but I've reached out numerous times and they fail to respond. Avoid booking with them at all costs.
The vehicle registration document expired during the rental period. Two fines were paid to the police, and the document was never received, as communicated by customer service. On the day of return, the staff forgot the contract and deposit (cash) at the office. A wait of more than 3.5 hours; if I had a flight that day, I would have had a problem with the airline and the car rental company. Totally unacceptable. Furthermore, the reservation I made to extend the rental with another vehicle was canceled on the same day I was supposed to pick it up. Another example of poor service and lack of professionalism.
Pickup was quick and easy, and the shuttle service was smooth on both ends. It was waiting when we landed, and after drop-off we only waited about 10 minutes to head back to the airport. No surprise fees, which I appreciated.
A couple downsides: the car wasn't as clean as I expected, and it wasn't the color I reserved. I also wasn't a fan of their built-in toll system since I had my own pass and theirs costs more. Aside from that, the experience was straightforward and hassle-free.
I am writing to let any potential users know my terrible car rental experience with EconomyBookings: I booked (#B*******) a Volkswagen Polo via EconomyBookings and paid $C590.95 for the booking. I was supposed to pick up the vehicle provided by Europcar (Reservation # is *******328) at Paris CDG Airport on July 8 at 8:30. Unfortunately, my flight with Air France 375 arrived in Paris (Terminal 2B) one hour later than scheduled. As a result, I got to the EuropCar office (in Terminal 1) later, and the Europcar office staff told me that my reserved vehicle was rented out already. They told me that they only had a Mercedes A PHEV 250 model which costs as much as $2,220.77! I called EconomyBooking office in Paris for assistance, but I was told that they could not find any better option. As a result, I had no choice but had to take a much more expensive vehicle! The above facts clearly indicate that it is the flight delay which led to the consequence, and it is totally out of my control. Moreover, my reserved vehicle via the EconomyBooking.com was rented out by Europcar. As a result, I had to pay much more ($2,220.77) to rent another vehicle which is on the top of what I paid to your EconomyBooking.com. Therefore, there is every reason that I should be refunded for this booking! Following several rounds of communications, they repeatedly used the generally-worded responses to answer my e-mail requests, citing the reason "No-show" for the decline. Yet, I scanned all specific items (4.61.-4. 6. 6) on this clause, and my case does not belong to any of the items listed. As a matter of fact, I did appear in the rental office (not "No-show), and did not get the vehicle I booked simply because the delayed flight arrival prevented me from picking up the vehicle in time, and this delayed arrival is totally out of my control. When I reserved the vehicle with your EconomyBooking.com, I did read the details on the pick up and cancellation including "No-show", but there is NOWHERE which states my booked and PAID vehicle will NOT be available in case it is not picked up at specific time or at a slightly delayed time. I paid for the vehicle and your company should keep the vehicle for me to pick up, just as booking.com does for hotel and many other businesses! Please put yourself into my shoes. I paid for the vehicle, and your company did not keep it for me to pick up. As a result, I had to pay $2,200 to rent another vehicle. And you even did not want to refund me for the vehicle I did not get at all. Having had my first terrible experience, I will NEVER use the EconomyBookings to book vehicle, and herewith I strongly urge any potential users NOT to book vehicle via EconomyBookings as well.
Booked a car rental through EconomyBookings for $752.86 (Booking #B*******). My prepaid confirmation explicitly stated "Airport Surcharge USD 131.00" and "Local taxes" were included.
On July 16,2026, I was charged an additional $533.30—comprised of the same airport surcharge, mandatory insurance forced at counter, and duplicate taxes. I requested itemization multiple times over 33 days. EconomyBookings refused to provide it or issue a refund, claiming they "cannot dispute supplier charges" despite being the booking intermediary.
Key issues:
Duplicate charges for items already paid Mandatory insurance at counter despite purchasing full coverage 33+ days of non-response to escalations Final refusal to acknowledge or correct billing errors No itemization ever provided
I filed formal complaints with the CFPB and Texas Attorney General. Do not use this service. Better alternatives exist.
My experience with EconomyBookings was extremely disappointing because of the way a mandatory insurance charge was presented. During the booking process, EconomyBookings offered me its Full Coverage, which I purchased. The rental voucher prominently shows this coverage and, on the very first page, states: "Pay at pick-up: USD 0.00." The same page lists the rental inclusions, including unlimited mileage, local taxes, airport fees and Full Coverage USD 48.27. This gives the customer a very clear impression that there are no mandatory additional amounts to be paid when collecting the vehicle. The voucher then goes even further. On page 2, EconomyBookings states that additional insurance may be offered at the rental counter and that, if Full Coverage has already been purchased, that additional insurance can be declined. However, only much later, on page 5 of a seven-page voucher, under "YOUR RENTAL EXCLUDES," the document states that Third Party Liability (TPL) insurance is mandatory at the counter, required by Mexican law, must be purchased at the counter, and is not included in EconomyBookings Full Coverage. Most importantly, EconomyBookings does not disclose the price of this mandatory insurance in the voucher. Only when I arrived at the rental company to collect the vehicle was I informed that this mandatory insurance would cost USD 25 per day. At that point, the customer has no meaningful opportunity to reconsider the booking. EconomyBookings' own cancellation terms state that cancellations made less than 48 hours before collection are non-refundable. So the practical choice at the rental counter was: Pay an additional mandatory USD 25 per day, or refuse the vehicle and lose the money already paid for the reservation. My complaint is not that the TPL insurance is completely absent from the voucher. It is mentioned. The problem is the way this material cost is disclosed. EconomyBookings prominently states "USD 0.00 to pay at pick-up," prominently displays the Full Coverage that was purchased, and even tells customers that additional insurance offered at the counter may be declined if they already have Full Coverage. Only several pages later does it state that another insurance policy is actually mandatory — without disclosing how much that mandatory insurance will cost. A mandatory charge that materially changes the real price of the rental should be clearly displayed before payment, together with the rental price, so that customers can compare the actual total cost with other rental companies. Had EconomyBookings clearly disclosed before booking that collecting the vehicle would require an additional USD 25 per day, I could have compared the true total price with other offers and made an informed decision. Instead, I learned the real mandatory cost only at the rental counter, when cancelling was no longer a realistic option without losing the money already paid. That is why I consider the pricing and disclosure process seriously lacking in transparency.
Fraud! Took my money twice for one reservation, I had to fight just to get a refund for one. The other one, when I went to pick up a vehicle at the airport, the rental company said they couldn't give me a car because I didn't have a returning flight. I was a local, renting a car for a short road trip. I've rented from the airport before from other companies without issues. This time they didn't give me a vehicle. I spent an hour driving to the airport and another hours driving back, having to scramble with another company to rent a car. Waster over 3 hours, completely delaying my trip causing other issues due to delays, then refusing to refund my money. They didn't give me a car and are not refunding the money that I paid for that car. Worst middle man ever. I did not get a car and did not get my refund.

Hello Dainis, I understand the frustration of waiting on a €3,000 deposit since March — that's a significant sum to be without, and the delay is genuinely aggravating. Let me set out where things stand, though, because the picture isn't quite that nothing was done.
To recap the case: the reclamation you filed through us was processed, and the payment for the car booking itself was successfully returned to you. The outstanding amount is the security deposit — and that's the part worth clarifying for anyone reading, because the deposit was held by the rental company directly on their own system, not by EconomyBookings. We don't hold the deposit funds, which means we're not in a position to release or return them ourselves — that's why the recommended route was a chargeback through your bank against the rental company, which you've since pursued.
With that chargeback now active, the recovery of the deposit sits with your card issuer's dispute process — that's the mechanism designed to recover funds held by a supplier who hasn't returned them, and it's the most effective route available for a deposit the supplier is withholding.
So while the "scammers took my money" framing is understandable given the wait, the booking payment was returned by us, and the deposit — which sits with the rental company — is now correctly in the hands of your bank's chargeback review.

Pickup was quick and easy, and the shuttle service was smooth on both ends. It was waiting when we landed, and after drop-off we only waited about 10 minutes to head back to the airport. No surprise fees, which I appreciated.

Hi there,
Thank you for such a thorough, balanced review — and delighted the core experience delivered: a quick pickup, smooth shuttle timing on both ends, and no surprise fees. That last one especially is something we work hard to get right, so it's great to hear it landed clearly.
A couple of quick notes on the downsides you raised. On the colour — that's a fair point to clarify: reservations are confirmed by vehicle category rather than a specific colour or exact model, so the colours shown at booking are illustrative for reference rather than guaranteed. The category is what's assured, and the supplier assigns the actual vehicle from their available fleet. On the cleanliness — that's fair feedback and not the standard the car should've been handed over in; worth noting on the supplier's side. And on the built-in toll system — a reasonable gripe when you've got your own pass; those supplier toll programs are set by the rental company, but it's useful feedback on where they don't suit every driver.
All in all, though, straightforward and hassle-free is exactly what we aim for — thank you for taking the time to lay it out so fairly, and we'd be glad to welcome you back!
Everything worked out fine. Car was ready at Thrifty Auto Rental and we were in and out in less than 10 minutes. The return was a piece of cake.

Hi Steve, In and out in under 10 minutes with a return that was a piece of cake — that's the kind of smooth, no-fuss experience every rental should be, and lovely to hear Thrifty had you sorted so quickly on both ends. Thank you for taking the moment to share it, and we'd be glad to welcome you back for the next trip!

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that our service did not inspire confidence in your case.
EconomyBookings is a legitimate, international car rental booking platform that works with licensed rental suppliers worldwide. In some cases, banks may automatically flag or block transactions as part of their own fraud-prevention systems, especially when payments are made to international merchants or involve currency conversion. These decisions are made solely by the card issuer and are outside of our control.
All prices shown on our website are real offers provided by our partner rental companies, and full payment details, terms, and conditions are clearly displayed before booking is completed.
If you ever have questions or concerns before or after making a reservation, our customer support team is available through our Help Center and official contact channels to provide clarification.
I have emailed numerous times with the requested bank information to receive my refund and I never get a response from them. I have tried emailing requesting an update 6 times since Oct 1

Hello,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we’re sorry for the frustration caused by the delay.
After checking the case, we can see that our refunds team has reviewed your request and identified that the SWIFT code provided was incorrect or incomplete. Because of this, the transfer could not be processed. Our team has already sent a follow-up email requesting the correct bank details so the refund from your e-wallet can be completed.
We kindly ask you to reply directly to that email with the updated and correct SWIFT/BIC code (and confirm the other bank details if requested). Once the correct information is received, the refund can be processed without further delay.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of your situation.
After carefully reviewing your booking, we’d like to clarify the circumstances regarding the charges you mentioned. According to the rental conditions associated with your reservation, certain basic fees and local charges—such as one-way fees, tolls, fuel charges, or local taxes—are not included in the prepaid amount made through EconomyBookings. These costs are clearly listed on the checkout page prior to payment and are to be paid directly to the car rental supplier at the counter.
In your case, the one-way fee and local taxes were charged by the rental company in accordance with their policy. These charges are standard across the car rental industry and are not refundable through EconomyBookings, as they were never part of the prepaid amount.
When you completed your reservation, you agreed to these terms, and therefore, they were correctly applied to your booking.
We understand this situation can be frustrating, but please rest assured that the booking and all related conditions were processed transparently according to the information displayed during checkout.

Hello, We’re sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, in cases where the vehicle is not collected at the scheduled date and time, the booking is classified as a no-show under the supplier’s policy. As stated in the rental terms accepted during booking, such reservations are non-refundable.

I rented a car through this website in Ushuaia, Argentina, with Street Rent-a-Car. Nobody from the rental company showed up at the airport as per the voucher. Nobody answered from the rental company's contact support. Airport information staff showed me the list of registered rental companies, there was none with that name. After 11 days, I am still waiting for an answer from Economybookings to my request for refund. Bad partners, worse customer service!

Dear Ricardo,
Thank you for reaching out and for sharing your experience. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you faced during your booking in Ushuaia.
Please rest assured that your case is still under investigation. We are currently awaiting a response from the car rental company, and as soon as we receive an update, we will contact you immediately with further information regarding your refund request.
We truly appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to resolve this matter for you.
We had a booking and then we were unable to hire the car because I had lost my credit card and they did not accept a debit card. Staff were very rude and unhelpful. Also we had to wait almost an hour for the transfer from the airport, only to find out we could not keep the booking because of the credit card issue. I had debit cards and also a credit card on my phone but they insisted on a physical credit card.

Dear Monica,
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience.
Please allow us to clarify: a physical credit card in the main driver’s name is a mandatory requirement in the car rental industry. This is necessary in order to leave the security deposit for the vehicle. Without a valid physical credit card, the rental provider has the right to refuse to release the vehicle.
This requirement is clearly outlined in the rental conditions as well as on the checkout page when making your booking. By confirming the reservation, you agreed to these terms, including the following:
Failure to collect the car at the date and time provided, or
Failure to present all necessary documentation at the rental desk,
Is considered a no-show, for which no refund can be issued.
We understand this was disappointing, but these rules apply to all customers equally and are standard across the car rental industry.

I booked a car with Economybookings (voucher says FESTOS, Heraklion Airport). No one met us, no shuttle, no contact with the supplier despite 1.5 hours and 4 calls to customer service. We had to take a taxi and rent from another company last minute. Service was never provided, but refund is still not issued after 5 days.

We can confirm that your refund has been approved and is now being processed. Depending on your bank, it may take a few business days for the funds to appear in your account.
We regret the frustration this situation has caused and appreciate your patience and understanding while the payment is finalized.

I booked through EconomyBookings expecting a straightforward rental process, but the experience was nothing but frustration. Their website is full of unclear and misleading information—especially around their cancellation policy, which is written in a way that makes it nearly impossible to get a fair refund. What they advertise and what actually happens are two very different things. When I reached out for help, their customer support team gave me nothing but canned, copy-paste responses that didn't address my actual concerns. It felt like no one even read my messages. There was no accountability, no willingness to resolve the issue, and absolutely no real communication. This company hides behind vague terms and unhelpful automated support instead of actually assisting customers. I would strongly recommend avoiding EconomyBookings and booking directly with a reputable rental company instead. Save yourself the time, stress, and disappointment.

If could give them negative rate, I would do it. We booked a rental car to pick up on July 04,2025. Under the policy we agreed with, they never mentioned that we need to follow the rental company, or we need to pay extra for insurance. The company they use will try to charge you hidden fees for insurance and also tell you sorry we have different policies than what's on the website you need to speak with the agency, not us. Worst customer service especially at the rental place called Routes Car Rental - 3035 Orlando Dr. Mississauga *******994 very incompetent staff that work there that have zero customer service experience and any knowledge. They are trying to hide you the correct policy and play around with the policy to catch you. Then later, when you don't want to give the rental company the extra hidden fee, and end of having no rental car. They use that against you for no-show and deny for refund. Please protect yourself from this company.

Hello Trang, My name is Alex and I'm part of the Community Relations team at EconomyBookings. We sincerely regret any confusion or inconvenience regarding relating to your experience. We strive to provide clear information regarding additional services, during the booking process. It's important to verify with the rental company about their specific insurance requirements. It sounds frustrating, especially with the unexpected charges and delays. I understand that this situation fell short of your expectations. Please note that in the rental conditions of the car rental option you choose was clearly stated:
''YOUR RENTAL EXCLUDES: Insurance (Collision Damage Waiver, Theft Protection, Third Party Liability)''
Which is mandatory to take a vehicle. If you did not have your own liability and coverage, rental agent may offer you an insurance directly from them. Unfortunately if the necessary documentation was not provided, car rental has a right to refuse to provide a car. In that case reservation considers as a no-show, no refund can be provided in case of this event. If you believe additional context should be reviewed or have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Support.
Answer:They do not just delay. When something goes wrong, they never intend to make good ony any of their promises: they do not call or write back, they do not follow up, and sure as hell they do not pay you anything unless you force them to, and that (in my experience) can only be done via the courts.
This company is rotten and everyone should stay away from them.
Answer:Economy Booking is based in Europe and is impossible to deal with. I would never use them again. I got my money back (the down payment taken off at the time of booking) by using better Business Bureau and going after the US rental company.
Hello Dainis,
I understand the frustration of waiting on a €3,000 deposit since March — that's a significant sum to be without, and the delay is genuinely aggravating.

Alex
