Airbnb's reputation is significantly marred by persistent complaints regarding its customer service and the quality of listings. Customers frequently express frustration over inadequate support, particularly in resolving issues related to cleanliness and safety at properties. Many report feeling unsafe or misled by inaccurate listings, leading to financial losses and dissatisfaction. Conversely, some users have had positive experiences with Airbnb Luxe, highlighting exceptional service and quality accommodations. Overall, while there are isolated instances of satisfaction, the overarching sentiment reflects a concerning trend of unreliable service and a lack of accountability towards both guests and hosts.

My camera captured 9 guests on a reservation for 8 (the maximum allowed by the city for my license). I called the guests out and said that 8 guests could stay and the 9th has to go. They got mad and spent 3 hours at my house trying to figure out a way out of their reservation and found one. AirBnB sided with the guest not giving a crap about the host and the fact that the guest violated their end of the contract. They are absolutely the worst company and doesn't realize that if there weren't hosts there wouldn't be guests. I am leaving AirBnB and will NEVER use their service again as a host or a guest. Choke on it AirBnB you are the worst.
Refund policy means nothing had to cancel 3wks before booking due to a Heart Transplant date change and provided documented evidence, paid £344 and never got a penny back! AVOID!
Airbnb canceled my reservation less than 16 hours before my flight.
This was the "help" I received from their employee
People keep getting their account banned randomly and now they provide no explanation because they make the mistake so often. I hadn't even booked a room yet-had the account for 24 hours to look at places and was already banned
After staying at a property I wrote an honest review, airbnb deleted the review because they said the problems where out of there control. It was problems with the property and i was trying to warn others not be rude to airbnb. If some one had done this for me i would have picked a different property.
Airbnb are middlemen of the worst type. They allow "hosts" to provide consistently sub-par and sometimes downright disgusting accommodation for prices which are in many cases higher than 4-star hotels. I have had accommodations with bugs, with rotten food in the fridge, and with extremely poor levels of cleanliness, yet you are effectively stuck with what you get as they don't generally offer any sort of refund if you show up to a garbage heap marketed as a bnb. But let's be honest, the idea that you can leave individuals who were brought up with vastly different standards of cleanliness to maintain any minimum level of cleanliness is just a dumb proposition - Airbnb have proved that, and the many negative reviews here corroborate the company's failure. That regulation hasn't stepped in is what's perhaps the most surprising to me, given how regulated the competition (hotels) is.
No help for customer issues. None whatsoever. Their agents just waste time and act as if they are actually looking at your issues.
Company lies a lot too
Our children wanted to surprise us with a $300.00 Air bnb gift card as a birthday gift for our trip to Ireland to celebrate this and my son gave an old email address that could not be accessed anymore. Air bnb refused to refund the funds or resent the gift card to the correct email and essentially stole the $300.00 paid to them for the gift card. Our son tried to speak to people from Air Bnb at all levels and they refused to help in any way. We are very disappointed in their lack of business integrity and they have lost our entire family as a customer for life. We plan to do a lot of traveling in our retirement but will not use Air bnb because if something goes wrong, they won't stand up for you; only themselves.
The host Amy a registered nurse rented me her property and it had rats living inside the basement. One night I ran across the rat as I was coming home from work shortly after 8 p. M I asked for a refund and cancelation and the host said know because I didn't give her a chance to assess the situation. Please beware and do not rent from this property. The host Amy is a light skin African American and she does not believe in doing what's right in my opinion. Please do not be a victim she took $1771 from me.
We were referred to Coral Reef Hotel due to location cost was 4xs more than it was 4 months ago
It smelled so bad we couldn't breath had to keep doors wide open for breeze and to top it off no towels the air conditioner unit was filthy dirty
Total gross out fir 475.00 a night I expect a 5 star hotel
Omg it was a nightmare even the luggage rack we had had flat tires. Total rip off
These air band bs are the pits my second experience was bad and my first one in Beevh mountain I got Covid
No more airb and vs for me
I rented a Airbnb late friday night, it was approved saturday morning. After approval more money was requested for extra guests but in his house rules it stated "it might be" a fee applied for extra guests. I requested a refund less than 24 hours after initiating the request. The host did not respond for over 48 hours, this was unethical. I contacted Airbnb twice regarding this matter and was left to the host and his discretion. I chose Airbnb for business and I have not been served by Airbnb. I will not be returning my business to Airbnb. I will be reviewing my experience everywhere possible to inform the masses of this horrible experience.
So dishonest. Booked an airbnb host site says free 30 day cancelation. Get what I thought was just a receipt, which actually changes cancelation policy to 48 hours. I didn't realize the bait and switch. And now I am being charged 50% cancelation fee plus administration fee to cancel within the 30 days I originally thought I was agreeing to. No help from AIRBNB or host. What a scam. Never again.
I used the app to book a weekend. When I received the confirmation and receipt emails, it only showed one night. Their solution to fix this was to re-book the second night. Now I'm getting charged all kinds of service fees and cleaning fees for two different stays. Over $400 for two nights in a $80 room. I know what I'm booking. The host knows what I'm booking. AirBNB claims to know what I'm booking, but they're charging me for way more and won't fix it. The AirBNB rep I spoke with on the phone then said it was my fault for using the app to book instead of using a desktop computer. He read me multiple scripts over and over. It seemed as if he didn't comprehend that he was supposed to get off the phone at some point and actually fix the problem. I don't have high hopes.
I've been trying to book a property for the first time and then got blocked. After a verification process I've been told that my account has been deleted and I am not allowed to use the service in the future. I asked for the reason and received ZERO explanation. Avoid this service.
Booked a place that was $108, after booking the total was over $235! All Fees! Which they were not up front about until after you paid. Then when you cancel they only refund 50%! Total scam, will never use again.
I will be writing bad reviews about an experience i had with airbnb in every platform i can find. Because of covid my friends and i had to cancel a trip to brazil back in January. When we called to canceled we were promised $927 back and only received $200. After many calls and headaches showing them proof of what we were promised we didn't get anything. We called talk to a few representatives, some of them really rude and without my concern case was closed and lost a lot of money. For sure i wont be using airbnb after this horrible experience. If i would of know i was losing all this money we would of moved the dates instead but didn't get that option either. A business shouldn't be run like this and specially if the customer had the proof
Air BnB. DONT DO IT. Avoid unless you have money to throw away. They refunded only $99 of a $1400 reservation I have to cancel shortly after reserving. They keep throwing out arbitrary numbers saying that first my refund would be this amount, then it would be that amount, then something else. They cant seem to settle on a refund amount and there is ALWAYS some story where they're trying to make sense of their funny math. Avoid the scam all together and get a motel/hotel. They have many, many did I mention many bad reviews and comments on their FB page from dissatisfied customers and their responses to the customers are laughable. They are pure garbage and scammers
Worst customer service ever. Been waiting on a refund I was "guaranteed" would post within 24 hours. It's been about 3 weeks now and have gotten the same bs about "Escalating" my issue. Whatever that means. Company is a joke. Will steal your money.
I work at a resort and I'm so freaking tired of having your guests coming to our front desk with no idea how to enter their unit and even its location. We feel so useless because we have no control of those condos and it's impossible to reach out to you. In this past week I've had the same stupid problem with 6 of your guests and it's infuriating. GIVE. THEM. THE. FREAKING. INFO. Or at least have a good customer service system.
And for the ones that might be reading this, DON'T BOOK WITH THIRD PARTIES. Always go directly with the hotel/resort and you'll be saving a lot of your time and energy.
"I wish I could give you a 0 but since it's not possible, I'll give a 1"
When I left a review of host stating that the unit was dirty, the host replied with name calling in his review of me. Airbnb would not acknowledge the hosts unprofessionalism. I do not appreciate being called names when leaving an honest review.
Answer: AirBnB is the worst. You might be able to go to the resolution centre, but previous posts are correct. Watch your money with them. Once they make an error it's hard to get it back. You may have to go through the credit card you charged it to and even then the dispute process might take awhile. Hopefully, you have other money to use in the mean time or the date of your trip is at least weeks out? They are asking you to "verify your ID" so they can gain access to your linked in, Facebook and google contacts. They say it's a security measure to protect you and everyone else but it's not. They are pirating your info. They take your contacts and use it as a marketing tool for themselves or sell the contacts to other distributors. It's very common with sites like this now. If you want to continue using AirBnB you have no choice unfortunately.
Answer: Being a host, I can say that when things are going good, all is great, but if something goes wrong, as a host, you will not get the support from Airbnb that is promised. They do not stand behind their hosts, I find they like to a facade that all is great in the land of Airbnb. I have cancelled my listing and will not deal with them anymore in the future.
Answer: As a host & licensed realtor with multiple properties in both Los Angeles & Las Vegas which I book directly and also have listed with multiple vacation rental agencies, SAVE YOURSELF TIME, MONEY & AGGRAVATION by booking either DIRECTLY with the host or through other REPUTABLE Agencies, such as Roomorama.
Answer: I haven't been a host, but would certainly recommend that you read ALL the reviews here before getting involved with Airbnb. I can't think of ANY business of ANY type I would patronize that got a 1.5 star rating after 382 reviews.
Answer: They offered $25 discount of next booking I just chose to go else where
Answer: You don't. The only thing that you can be sure of is that if you have a problem Airbnb will be unreachable. They hide from dissatisfied customers and hosts alike. You are taking big chances when you deal with them. The benefits just aren't worth the risks.
Answer: No, you would be lucky and have to fight to get a refund if you cancel 1 day after you make the reservation!
Answer: Hello, First, the credit card co. Needs to be notified and will refund the amount spent. In turn, the cc co. Will backcharge. Airbnb is notorious for these types transactions and should be shutdown. Your son has learned a business lesson... research a business prior to do business!
Answer: This is the root of my problem with AIRBNB. They do not check to see if a host can legitimately rent the place they are advertising. In my experience, the host cancelled 48 hours before, claimed she was going to be evicted if she rented to me. I was only 3000 miles from home. AIRBNB offered me a 10% discount to rebook another place. I did not and will not use them again.
Answer: Susan's answer is very thorough and I agree with her. Even more important when booking places outside your country of origin to ensure you don't get a flea pit. Also, always look at the reviews, they are very important. If there is a really bad review, don't stay there. You need to check the locations online as well. You don't want to be in a bad, dangerous area... this just happened to someone staying in Philadelphia. If you have a problem, the AirBnB website is useless. Google the AirBnB customer service number from your location. Renee
