Airbnb Reviews Summary

Airbnb's reputation is significantly marred by persistent complaints regarding its customer service and the quality of listings. Customers frequently express frustration over inadequate support, particularly in resolving issues related to cleanliness and safety at properties. Many report feeling unsafe or misled by inaccurate listings, leading to financial losses and dissatisfaction. Conversely, some users have had positive experiences with Airbnb Luxe, highlighting exceptional service and quality accommodations. Overall, while there are isolated instances of satisfaction, the overarching sentiment reflects a concerning trend of unreliable service and a lack of accountability towards both guests and hosts.

Airbnb is just a SCAM! Avoid
I have hosted a guest since August 2022 and the payment till today didn't reflect to my account. I have been in touch with Airbnb support since then and asked them to share the SWIFT confirmation number they have been for whole 3 months trying to get this number from what they call "payment processors" at the end they shared with me a cropped document that shows a different account number than mine and with a different currency and doesn't show either the bank that sent the transaction or the bank that received the transaction. Complete SCAM – AVOID Airbnb.

Incompetent
November 29, 2022

I also had good experiences with Airbnb as a tenant, until now. The incompetent role of the resolution centre in a dispute made me cancel my registration. As a tenant, I was held liable for defects I had not caused and AirBnB decided in favour of the plaintiff: this is how you are outlawed as a tenant. Below is the case. At my last stay, there was a dispute with the landlord about who was ultimately responsible for the final cleaning. She then comes up with a declaration of maintenance costs for defects of which I was unaware. I refuse to pay and the landlord calls in the help of AirBnB resolution centre for mediation. The latter "vindicates" the landlord on the basis of photos, the invoice and that she had submitted the claim in time.

We rented a house on the Big Island, HI and right before the trip we found out by pure chance that the whole village was wiped out by lava almost 5 years ago... Arbnb is still renting the place... Now I am trying to get my money back and from what I encountered already, it is not going to be easy. We will NEVE EVER use this platform. How on earth you rent out a house that was destroyed almost 5 years ago. I don't even know how to comment on this. Be aware who you are dealing with. Scammers

No accountability.
November 26, 2022

No accountability. Homeowners are much more important to Airbnb than customers. So if you have a bad experience at a location, like we did, they will side with the property owner. Even if the property listing has other complaints from guests Airbnb won't pull it and loose the revenue. Their system is corrupt. Use a strong credit card like Amex so you have a chance of disputing your issues, or book VBRO.

Not impressed
November 25, 2022

I recently started to rent our cottage from Airbnb. We have had about 4 guests so far and all has been going very well until this last guest. That guest booked a stay for 9 days. On the day of arrival it was someone other than the guest who has booked with Airbnb who checked in. When I asked about him the woman who was checking said he would arrive later. Then a couple of hours later she texted me that she was going to have 3 guests over. I told her the room was for 2 people only but she went ahead anyway. Her guests parked in front of our cars so we could not leave our parking.

We have been hosting our properties on the Airbnb platform for several years and we have observed so many times, they resolved our claims biasedly for the customer's benefit. For each time of claim, they requested us to submit endless evidence and they were still unsatisfied. Even if after reviewing all support documents to come to the conclusion that the ill-fated guest(s) were wrong to cause the damage, they still accepted the counterclaim from the guest and reversed their decision not to pay for the damage. Worse, they did not let us see the guest's arguments but forced us to look for further supporting documents. We suffered from all losses and all difficulties from the damage. We were so concerned about why we were treated so biasedly, and so badly and searched through their terms of service and were stunned to find out that they stated clearly that they are a customer-friendly platform. That answered a lot of the low-credibility reviews here. I would give them a negative rating or zero rating if they are available.

Rude customer service
November 22, 2022

Flew to Baltimore for surgery (cancer). Booked a listing for one week. The very next day after checking in, we contacted host and airbnb customer service with our concerns about the safety of the building/neighborhood ( rough neighborhood not save for tourist). Homeless people walking around the building. We discovered the location to park our vehicle was not in the garage but instead in a parking lot in the back of the building. The street seem like an alley. It's a corner lot that seems unsafe and cut off. You have to go through a parking garage with a wooden barricade where the automatic door used to be. There was 5 foot metal crowbar just laying in the middle of the hallway. We are from out town we was not aware that the neighborhood was did smack in the middle of the hood, abandoned building with Graffiti.
We requested to complete the minimum stay but wanted to make modifications to our check out date. The host wouldn't approve the modifications and the customer service team was insensitive and unconcerned with our safety. We booked the listing last minute, so it wasn't like the host had a previous booking that we intrupted. The customer services agent (eddie)was rude, dismissive and out right sarcastic.

When i asked to speak to a supervisor, he claimed he was the supervisor. I asked him what was the turn around to getting an answer, he stated 24-72 hour. Customer service waited an entire week, the day after we checked out to call. A new representative called and stated she is just now seeing the ticket in the system and how can she be of help. The customer service team intentionally ignored our concerns. When i travel, i have always used airbnb. I have been on alot of trips were others booked but i was an occupation. I am currently staying at an airbnb now because i am not cleared to travel yet but this will be my last booking threw airbnb. There is other booking sites and they have the same listing as airbnb. I will be going even further to informing all of my friends and family of my experience. I hope eddie was worth the business you will be losing. Eddie acted like we were taking money out of his pocket. This shouldn't have happened especially during such as a fragile time.

Wish i could give no star
November 22, 2022

I do not recommend using airbnb for any booking at all. Their customer service and policies to safe guard the customer are terrible and absolute non-sense. My host was horrible and Airbnb didn't take any actions against them.
I will be making a descriptive video on youtube and Twitter soon giving a complete description on the service and mental torture.

We stayed at a horrible Airbnb apartment having no lock on the entry door (although it is listed as having a smart lock). Checked in June 3 2021, we couldn't secure our luggage in the unit and we're forced to carry items with us each time we left the unit. Importantly, on June 4 at 7 PM, we found a sign of "sighting of bear and mountain lion" in walking distance from Terry's place. It is difficult to feel comfortable sleeping at night knowing there are wild animal around the neighborhood. We are not the first person complaining about the unit having no locks. Searching in review with "lock", one other person complained about this in 2015
The apartment is accessed using a stairway from the host's garage, which is dark even during the day, and there is no lighting in the stairway.
On June 4 at 4 PM, we found out the bathroom sink does not have hot water, when speaking with Terry, he simply said "well, it does not work, The plumber cannot come in till next week".
There is no shower head, it is just a pipe, it is way too low for my husband.
Due to these issues, we checked out one day earlier. I started raising the issue with airbnb on June 5 1:49 PM, asking for refund of one night but was denied because we must report within 24hrs,
On Nov 9, I accidently found that the deadline for reporting should be 72 hrs.
Rebooking and Refund Policy - Airbnb Help Center
I reopened the case with them on Nov 9. The case manager is Maricris. I sent all the information in including multiple photos in 1 hr by messaging, but Maricris did not even respond at all in 24hrs which is the timeframe that she promised. I had to call Airbnb on Nov 11 to find out more. She pointed out I brought up the case on June 11. How ridiculous! She did not even look at the file I sent her or my previous case. After a couple of phone calls, She agreed to refund me $15 out of $613.08 that I paid! So disappointed that as a major player in hospitality industry, Airbnb does not treat their customer as priority.

Air-B-n- freeze
November 15, 2022

Rented a place in San Antonio and there was a
Cold front that came in. No heat at the home the first night. Then it was fixed so we agreed to stay. It broke again and we froze, again. Really miserable. Air-B-N-B's solution: a 30% discount. I will never use them again. Yea his would never happen with Expedia.

Deceitful and Unprofessional
November 14, 2022

I am going to share my experience hosting our glamping through Airbnb because #buyerbeware.

I contacted them to ask how I can give local friends and business owners an opportunity to experience our glamping site at a reduced rate, in an effort to earn their reviews and hopefully get referrals.

Vivi and Natasha both accepted our offer and both wrote glowing reviews. Because they stayed at a greatly discounted rate, Airbnb did not make much profit off their stay. Of course, had they any business sense whatsoever, they would realize that good reviews bring in more business. But as you will see, they are grossly unprofessional and inept at business.

As both of these ladies will share - and I have screenshots, emails etc proving all this - they were accused of writing fraudulent reviews and their reviews were removed. When they asked for proof of this alleged fraud, they were provided NONE. In fact, Natasha was told I asked them to remove her review. When she contacted them to correct their "mistake" (aka LIE) they told her that her review was reinstated. And it is NOT.

Listen to this, folks! Now they have tampered with my listing so that I am priced out of showing up in a search, though on my end the pricing shows up correctly. So they continue to make attempts to prevent me from earning income.

They are absolutely deceitful, disrespectful and abhorrently unprofessional. It costs a LOT of money to build and maintain these rental properties. All the work and all the risk is on us. Then they take a percentage of our fees and also charge fees to our customers. Can you imagine the absolute gall - not to mention utter stupidity - it would require to actually contact MY customers and call them liars? And without cause?

I clearly will not be hosting through these hacks any more. And they absolutely have not heard the end of this. The good news is that despite their idiocy, we had an INCREDIBLE first season. We were fully booked and had glowing reviews from the people who paid full price and were not censored. We have plans to build additional sites and at least one of those is going to be extra special and unique. Some reputable hosting site is going to benefit greatly starting in spring of 2023.

AirBnB sent the worst tenant we have ever had aka Pacific Heights.
Violated our house rules left and right, never had a conversation beyond Hi, Bye.
Said nothing and stayed in his room the entire week.
Eats in his room trashing the carpet and leaving permanent Cheeto stains.
We don't appreciate his eyeing our 6 year old daughter.
The $75 damage claim pale to guest's pack of lies trashing our place saying we run it like the Military.
If he means clean and organized great!

This is AirBnB response: Reviews are the backbone of Airbnb's community.
In order to maintain this structure, we have guidelines in place to ensure all reviews are fair, honest, and relevant to your guests' stay with you. https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/546

After reviewing xxx review, he does not violate our content policy, therefore we must leave his review. While his review does not violate, your response to his review has been removed, as you had included some of his personal information that could be used to locate him outside of our platform.
As of this correspondence, it has been taken down. I have emailed AirBnB that I demand $xxx for compensation for libel damaging my brand on AirBnB.
To date, AirBnB has not replied nor compensated for the unfounded malicious attack promoted by their guest.
AirBnB should be shutdown. They abuse hosts with no regard for the truth.

Refunds
November 9, 2022

I have canceled 2 reservations because it is impossible to travel to Savannah and St. Augustine due to hurricane Nicole. I have received $106 out of 352 for Savannah and $43 out of $345 for St. Augustine.
I find this quite unexpected when Florida is under mandatory evaluations and Savannah is expecting 60+ miles of wind. If these are not extenuating circumstances then what are they?
I have expected more help from Airbnb in these circumstances.

I have been a host for 10 years for my property on Maui. I was a "Super Host" for most of those years with an average of 4.9 stars. I only had 1 issue with guests that had been smoking pot in the condo and the cleaners had to take everything to the dry cleaners to have cleaned. When I complained and ask for the guests to pay I got no support from Air bnb. For my other location on a lake in Canada when the guests that had already spent 5 days there were forced to evacuate because of a forest fire Air bnb refunded the entire amount and I got zero! I recently as a guest went to Italy, Swizterland and France and we stayed a 7 Airbnb locations. Five of them were good or great. Two of them were F######## dumps. We had to go and buy bedsheets at one of them as we refused to sleep on what they provided. We received $0.00 when we complained. So as of now we are no longer hosting or are we going to be using the service as guests. So from my point of view there was no support for me as a host or a guest.

DO NOT BOOK AIRBNB!
I will never book with Airbnb again. They do not protect their guests from scam hosts. This company cost me 3300. 00 and after reading reviews I am not the only one for this particular property. This property was in a bad neighborhood with fighting Pitt bull dogs right next door. Bars on all the windows. Prostitutes on the corner, houses falling down in the neighborhood. This host only had inside pictures and no outside. 1320 Ohio St. N Lakeland Florida. Once we got there we realized why! In less than 3 months Airbnb has let a particular host misrepresent a property and scam people out of over 9000. 00 just from what I am reading on reviews! DO NOT USE AIRBNB! They will not protect you from bad hosts! They will not help you get your money back! They are a joke! You would think they would screen their hosts to protect their guests.

I wanted to share my story so others don't make the same mistake and loose all the money which ended costing you more and the stress involved!

I have booked with partial payment. In my error that I wasn't aware off this issue but later found out!

So 2 months ago I have issues with my email account and completely forgot about updating a new email via Airbnb so when the 2 payment were due I temporarily put a hold on as I misplaced it so when they tried to get the 2 payment they couldn't and they sent a reminder that I didn't get as it went to the old email so the system automatically cancelled the booking not me …it's a week before check in I went in to account and saw 'cancelled by me'? I contacted the host and check in and she said it was a weird cancellation as she didn't get a notification on it! I then contacted Airbnb and tried to find out …they did advised me that I sent email regarding payments…at this time I completely forgot about my issues with emails where I need to update it on my account with Airbnb so I told them I didn't get any! The hosts were very accommodating and refund 50% but after explaining to Airbnb they still charged fees vat so I got $66 from host! This is genuinely a mislooked and an error that I like to share so others don't make the same mistakes.

So the accommodation with Airbnb was going to cost us 440 due to this issue we had to find somewhere else ti stay and we have learnt Groupon provide way way cheaper 350 with welcome drink, with 20 credit to use at the hotel for Rydges!

Hosts lie. Guests lie. Airbnb invariably takes the side of the person with the least capacity for reason and logic because clearly their staff is incapable of both. Furthermore, they are either lacking proper medication or are on too much. It's clearly not my job to decipher which; only to stay away from these nut jobs.

Unfortunately, you have to give a star here. I booked an Airbnb in March for a period of four weeks in August. Payment and confirmation went smoothly and 6 hours before my departure, I was asked by the host for another 300 EUR. If I refuse to pay the amount, I would not receive the key to the property. I immediately contacted customer service by phone and was let down after a full 3 hours of discussion.

Airbnb did not contact the host and left me the only option to cancel free of charge. But this was not an option at that time, as I needed the accommodation arriving at 11 pm in the destination country. Alternative accommodation could not be organised or neither the stay in a hotel would be paid until an alternative accommodation would be found for me. I should agree with the host if I need an accommodation or they could cancel without any accommodation.

Afterwards, I contacted Airbnb with the situation. Unfortunately, I met with incomprehension and I would have behaved wrong. I shouldn't have paid the money. The colleague on the phone had not advised me to do this in any situation. He said I should pay if I needed the accommodation otherwise he could cancel the booking. I would have to look for something else on my own. He is sorry for me but can't help me in this case.

Apart from the money, this is coercion and fraud. Sadly, Airbnb seems to fully support this. I can really only advise against booking through this portal, because if you have a problem, then it is simply ignored.
