We rented a car with sixt thru priceline months in advance to travel out of state. Upon arriving we received a text with a phone number to call for p/u at the airport. After calling several times... they were closed and we were stuck! WE had to rent a car w/another rental company@ much cost. Now we are told that we will not receive a refund even though we did not use their car. Not any way to do business... never again! Buyer be ware, zero rating!
Hired a car in Spain was very suspicious when in the damage report covered stone chips so small that I could hardly see them. I returned the card and was given a clean bill of health by the agent however a week later they tried to charge me for a stone chip to the drivers mirror which had already been pointed out when I picked up the car.
Really not impressed with this company, worst I have ever used in in regard. Avoid (unless you don't mind paying for their over priced excess policy)
Rented a VW Polo to get a tour through Europe. The car was delivered to the airport and all the trip completely went fine, but also they had a problem. The tyres were almost worn out. That wasnt really a problem as I traveled on summertime and the weather was good, but anyway I suppose its not good for a rental service to give such cars.
Beware! - Sixt are a bunch of thieves. We used them for a holiday in Denmark last week. After returning to the UK they issued us with a £274 bill for a small chip to the windscreen, which had already been pointed out prior to departure. I wrote to them to complain, I didn't receive a reply and they simply went ahead and charged my credit card for the unauthorized fee. My wife and I are appalled at their customer service and won't ever be using Sixt again. There must surely be much better and more honest car hire companies out there. I would give them 0 stars if I could.
I left my sunglasses in a rental car, called them but they stole it!
They have lost and found but they told me they are not responsible for any belongings left in a car.
It is a green light for their staffers to steal it!
It was the worst service I received at a rental car company. I returned the rental car to the Sixt Rent a car location at Budapest airport that I only had for less than 20hrs. When I dropped it off, the agent at the station said that there is a small mark/chip on the windshield. They rudely accused me for this. This is the most hilarious thing that I heard at a rental car. I picked up the car around 10pm, and at that time I couldn't see such a small mark on the windshield. I asked the to take care of this ridiculous situation, but no avail.
My $123.85 total rental price ballooned to $278.28 (I did purchase $50 insurance). When I called the company to ask about the $60 fuel charge, I was told that was $8/gallon. The girl who rented me the car never explained any extra charges. Service rep informed me it was my responsibility to read the agreement. NEVER again. Another company sticking it to the customer with hidden charges.
The most bad experience I ever had with rental companies for over 25 years of renting cars. Simply never again. Faking on car delivery (car delivered at night with scratched alufelg) and search for artificial reason to charge the client (each 8 mm scratch charged for 95 euro). Such experience I had with Sixt in Portugal, when taking the car from Faro and returning in Porto. Service of manager in Porto was on not acceptable level. Refused to contact by phonet the Sixt workers in Faro, giving a statement that they work and don't have time to talk. This manager service was below any quality level. It had place in July 2016.
I am not surprised that after such treatment, people don't want to rent a car at all any more.
They were pretty rude in the office at the Airport in Budapest. As soon as they got to hear I don't have an insurance by them but by another company they treated me like I'm an idiot Because of that they reserved 2500 on my credit card instead of 2000. When we picked up the car, they didn't care about the demages we've found but at the return I bearly stopped the engine their agent was all over the car. Without saying hello, good morning or whatever he started to ask my boyfriend aggresively about the demage on the car. I tried to answer and tell him that although we don't think we cauesed the scratches but we are insured so it's no big deal, the agent didn't listen just kept on saying that we are not insured at them so they will charge it from my credit card. He coulnd't answer to my questions, he was just busy with the fact we are not insured by them so we have to pay. He was arrogant and disrespectful. Too bad we had to finish our lovely weekend with such a bad experience.
For sure never again renting from Sixt!
I had an overall good experience with their services, except when I visited Barcelona last year.
Their office manager wouldn't rent me the car I had already paid for and reserved because I didn't have my return ticket printed yet.
I will never use again - I had in the past and wasn't impressed but not ripped off - then I was, ripped off that is. They were unresponsive and rude - hard to believe a Dutchman would be rude to a Canadian. But there it is - The manager did nothing for me and then got upset and personal when I involved American Express to resolve the issue - and they were not able to. It might have been a coincidence that my travel AMEX card was then compromised but I cannot doubt the conspiracy theory when that card is so seldom used. Buyer/Renter beware - use someone else.
Rented a vehicle from Sixt in France and drove it for four days. Returned it at the recommended Paris drop-off but attendant not there, during normal business hours. Inspected car carefully and used facility key drop. Received an email a month later that said the car had a 4cm scratch on the rear bumper and it would cost $760 to repair. My insurance company paid it but only after several months of communication with Sixt lawyers.
They were not happy with this obvious rip-off and told me this had happened before. Avoid this company.
I'm a US expat, working in the Netherlands. In 2013, I rented a car from Sixt-Amsterdam for 12 months (had to change it a few times, per their rules). I paid them over 13K euros during this period. When I returned one of the cars, they said that I had to pay 500 euros damage because there were scuffs on the bumper. They claim that I signed a form saying I took responsibility for the damage, and I absolutely did not. They sent photos of the scuffs, and there are indeed scuffs. I dispute that I caused the scuffs and that 500 euros is a reasonable damage claim for a scuffed bumper. I have had many email communications with Sixt on this, and they have likely sent this to a collections agency. On another occasion in 2013, I was told that a stone had nicked the hood and I would have to pay for that as well, but I never received paperwork on that. I believe that Sixt uses these outrageous damage claims as an additional revenue stream. Be careful with Sixt...
They messed up the location of dropoff/pick up the night before i was leaving. After a few emails of them asking me if i wanted to change rez. And i said 'yes pleeeze" they never got back to me. So i cancelled them all together. Now they have charged my credit card $196... horrible, greedy co.
DO BUSINESS ELSEWHERE
NEVER, EVER HIRE/RENT FROM SIXT! When I went to pick up the car I told the agent that I had already purchased collision damage waiver insurance through the booking agent, rentalcars.com. The agent lied to me and said that the insurance I purchased through rentalcars.com was not valid. In addition, the agent added glass and tire insurance, which I did not ask for. Since I had a very early flight, I did purchase the petrol refill, which was exorbitant! When I next looked at my email there was a message from rentalcars.com warning me NOT to purchase insurance from Sixt because it was not necessary-the rentalcars.com insurance covered everything! When I complained the company did not offer any refund or compensation of any kind. Since then I have read numerous reviews from others that have had the same experience, or worse. Their business model is based on defrauding their customers. Sixt is the absolute WORST rental car/car hire experience I have EVER had!
Avoid Sixt in Budapest. They wouldn't honor confirmed Internet price, they charged gas fees even though returned full, and a month after I left the country they suddenly charged my credit card a huge damage fee even though I had returned the car unharmed.
Bad site, ok service and the car I rented in Budapest Airport was 2 years old, not that bad.
Took them 2 weeks and numerous phone calls by me to release the guarantee money from my card.
By comparison, Avis is better.
About the website - The website is not too intuitive and login doesn't always work using a username or email. Figuring out the website was a little difficult but it ended up working out.
I am writing this website review even though it relates only to a specific location primarily because I would have loved to have seen a review before my rental. This is my contribution to the Sitejabber community.
About my rental - I rented a car in Fort Lauderdale. They have an off-airport location. Now my ratings for this particular location and rental:
Price was excellent - Total price including taxes and fees was about 40% cheaper than the lowest other price (E-Z Car) and less than half the price of the large companies. Part of the reason for the low price was the off-airport location which saves certain airport usage fees.
The shuttle bus wait from the airport was about 10 minutes. Ride was about 5 minutes. Bear in mind that if you do not fly in to the terminal across from the Rental Car center there will be an additional airport shuttle ride necessary - but no different than any other rental company.
The line at the counter was just a couple of people so about a 5 minute wait.
Rental process was quick and seamless. My car was ready immediately and fully fueled.
Note - You must use a CREDIT CARD to process the rental, a DEBIT CARD is not enough. You can pay however you like but need a credit card to rent the car. They put a $250 hold on the card which is relatively standard.
Car was not brand new (a Hyundai with 8,000 miles) but in decent condition and with nice options so not a stripped down model. There were some scratches but I photographed them an pointed it out - so I had no problem upon the return.
The return process was very quick (<3 minutes) and the wait for shuttle to the airport was just a couple of minutes. A downside with off-airport rentals in Fort Lauderdale is that the rental car shuttle takes you to the airport shuttle bus stop at one terminal and you need to take the airport shuttle to get to the other terminals. Rental Car buses are not permitted to drop off passengers anywhere other than the Rental Car center.
Overall I highly recommend Sixt for rentals at Fort Lauderdale airport.
This is a rental car ripoff par excellence! The online rental information makes it look like a real upfront operation with everything disclosed clearly for the consumer on the website. The problem comes when you go to pick up the reserved car and find out that the third party liability insurance they say is included in the price will cost you nearly more than twice the cost of the entire car rental! A compact car that online is around $20.00 per day comes to $60.00 a day because the insurance they say is included is not included at all. The people at the desk were very nice and the service person called the head office and spent quite a bit of time talking to supervisors to try to get them to honor their website offer, but to no avail. They lie upfront to get you in and then try to add $1200. 00 on top of your rental once you're there! Colossal ripoff and false advertisement! If you see Sixt Rental Car run fast the other way and save yourself some grief!
If they'd told me the truth from the git-go I wouldn't have any complaint whatsoever; I just wouldn't have wasted my time fighting traffic to find them, let alone making my wife sit for the better part of an hour while I tried to make them honor their website offer. My wife, who is in a great deal of pain with cancer, didn't need the grief nor did I.
Answer: They don't hire enough customer service staff. After an unhappy rental with them I started reading reviews and found nothing good, Never again.
Answer: Don't have one! Success story doesn't exist. The only success was on their end screwing me out of $300... duh
Answer: No cars available in Vegas. It's crazy. My dad wanted to go but no cars. Learn a lesson, only go to reputable rental agencies
Answer: Impossible. I waited on hold for 3 hours only to be told that they would not do anything to address my request. There are plenty of car rental companies. Pick another one,
