My husband and I are both 80 and wondered how in the world would we be able to share the multitude of old (very old) home movies, VHS tapes, photos etc with the up-and-coming younger generations of our family who never knew our parents or grandparents (and other distant relatives). Legacybox solved that problem for us. At first we were hesitant to send all our original (and priceless) film to a company we didn't know, but their professionalism and reassurances finally won us over and I'm so glad we took the plunge. We are thrilled with the results and have subsequently found more items to send them.
I submitted my order to Legacy Box over four months ago, and there has been no progress on my order. I would NOT recommend using this service!
Legacy Box received our tapes on November 28th 2023. It is now March 26,4 month later and we still do not have anything back. The customer service telephone # wait times are literally hours while their laughable recording says their wait times average 8 minutes. Our experience is similar to other customers who claim terrible service. At this point we are not sure if they have lost our media because all we get as a status is 'in process'. Hopefully they have not lost our media as others claim to have experienced. IMHO DO NOT USE LEGACYBOX.
I sent 20 really old (1960's!) films in. They had been in a flood and stored in a hot attic for over 20 years. Legacybox was able to digitize them and put them on a flash drive. My father cried upon seeing his wedding film for the first time since 1960! What a great service!
One star was only so I could leave the review. I expected LegacyBox to take longer than IMemories but for $9 a tape I thought I would give them a try. I requested the box in Mid-August and sent it in filled with my family memories on 9/01/23. In Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec all I was told was my items were in a secure location and will be processed as soon as one of their team members can process my items. In the middle of January my items were moving to the processing room. My completed images were loaded digitally on 1/31/24,5 months after I mailed my box. My downloads were good but it appeared the tapes were but on a machine and loaded. Therefore if my tape had 30 minutes on a 4hr tape, i got a 4 hour download. Regardless, I received my downloads. My items were mailed back and were to arrive on 2/07 but never arrived. When I checked they advised due to the rain, it would be delayed. Now a month later they looked into it and found that my box was lost and UPS has closed the search for my family memories. In my experience, use IMemories instead.
I sent in 40 mini tapes in October 2023 and I am still waiting and it's March 2024. Charlie Kirk forgot to mention a 25-week turnaround time. I still don't have the digitized product... scared!
These people will screw you over something fierce! Stay Away!
If you don't use all your prepaid barcodes the first time you lose them and
They expect you to place another order. Not a chance!
I will never consider this company again and I have four tapes left to be processed. At first they are in constant contact about every step and then they fall off the face of the earth. When I finally called they needed three more weeks. I haven't heard a word and that three weeks is up. This is twenty years of my kids childhood on these tapes and it makes you nervous. Take it some place local if you're smart!
I am not speaking to the quality of the items they scanned, those I have not looked at extensively and what I did look at was fine. The reason for my one star review is that they charged $84.99 on my credit card because apparently the service comes with a one year free backup online. Once the one year is up, they automatically charge you. I emailed right after the charge went through and they refused to remove it. I just tried to call now during business hours and they say it is "after business hours" at 3:30 pm on a Monday even though their hours are M-F 9-5 pm EST. I am going to continue to fight for a refund of the $84.99. I have never even used that service. Ridiculous to not refund it the day after the charge went through.
We sent in VHS tapes to get them put on DVDs. Watching the DVDs is painful because of stops and starts with blank blue screen, flickering, blurry and a lot of snow. Terrible quality. It is disappointing. I wouldn't recommend.
I spent over $600 to get approximately 500 slides digitized...which they did -- BUT the quality is SO POOR! Around EVERY SINGLE slide is a black border...that their customer service representative says it is their process! They do NOT say that they will put a border around your images... But even IF it was acceptable, the borders are irregular and uneven. Some images have black borders on 2 sides...some on all 4. I spoke with customer service...and they are UNWILLING to refund me my money! They wanted to give me CREDIT! Ugh! For a terrible, terrible service. I previously took slides to a local vendor and they did a beautiful job...NO BORDERS...and sometimes even improved the image. I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. What a waste!
I hope someone from Legacy can remediate my issue -- but as i have tried normal channels...my hope is slim.
If their digitizing quality is as bad as their customer service, beware! Hope not to die of old age before they finally deliver. Go somewhere else!
Wait time way too long (but expected), endless emails boasting "60% off" (why did I bother paying more, even with a coupon), and then I received my box back with very little packaging to prevent damage. The 8mm reels were bounced around, all of the cassette tapes had come out of their cases, and there were some broken bits from one of the reels... just devastating to open the box and find my 80+ year-old reels of my family treated this way. The transfer itself was fine I suppose, but I will NEVER use this company again. All they seem to be concerned with is shiny packaging and slick ads. Shameful.
I had several VHS tapes that I wanted to convert. I sent 10 to Leagacybox. They were only able to convert 1. I had to prompt them to refund my money since I paid for 10 and only received 1 back digitized. They are not clear that by placing an order, you sign up for a subscription. Trying to unsubscribe is a difficult process.
I gave them 2 stars since my money was refunded but I will not use them again for any of my digital conversion needs.
They returned part of my money when i canceled before sending them anything, they said they kept 63 dollars for a restocking fee for a empty box they didn't want back, I said what are you restocking? Its policy so I have a 63 dollar cardboard box. They are scammers seen a bunch or videos on you tube thats why I canceled
I am one of those folks who carried around a VHS camera until they were no longer made. So, I had about 40-50 tapes. I used a local place that first transferred them to VHS to dvd and that worked out ok.
But Legacybox does so much advertising, I decided to give it a try. Things went well at first with mailing the tapes out. I paid for the thumbdrive and downloadable link. And from there things went downhill...
I sent the tapes out in July, and I was told "due to supply chain issues & amount of orders this may take longer than expected." I thought, "Fine. They warned me."
Well, fast forward to November, Legacybox is still texting me about discounts, still sending me spam, and still NO order received. In November, I finally wrote back that if I did not get my tapes soon, I would ask for a full refund.
One week later, the order was finished. But the work seemed lazy and poor quality. For example, I used to do commercials. Some of my tapes were only 30 seconds long. Was it really necessary to send me a 3GB file that is 5 hrs of blank footage with a 30 second commercial on the front?
Not only did the size of the files make playing files difficult from the Google drive, I had to make the extra step of editing out the blank footage after getting the thumbdrive; thumbdrives that were not too impressive, not packed well in the box, only came in a grey envelope, and were so small they could have easily been lost.
What bothered me more than anything is that they refused to transfer some tapes due to adult content. These were private tapes between me and my wife! I wanted that content transferred. But apparently Legacybox thinks nudity between a married couple violates their TOS. I thought maybe they went to Catholic school until I found they had no problem transferring a tape where my brother recorded over my footage with "Skin-emax" porn.
This told me the tapes were not given any attention, and were just hard transferred with very poor quality assurance.
It was a huge waste of money. About $950 dollars wasted. Oh...and I cannot share the google drive/downloadable link of my videos with anyone.
Just a rip off. I would avoid.
Thanks to Legacy Box, I've now been able to see & hear my digitized video tapes and audio cassettes. My children are now adults. Yet here's what I hear and see again:
" I am 3 years old!"; and " I know the words on my 1st grade list!'; And dance recitals from quite a while ago~ Those are a small fraction of what I've seen so far. All of this addresses the goal of re-capturing precious memories,of course. But I want to say a few words about the process that made it possible in the first place:
Every step of the way, this company made it easy. From sending me the protective box for my items, through the link that gave me immediate access to those memories!, they were there for all my questions. I had a lot of those. Always helpful, expert about the process and very sweet besides. They made the whole experience easy. They sent the original items back too.
Thanks, Legacy Box.
Happy tears~

Return service is very slow, several daily emails that have nothing to do with your order, discounts not honored without going through several hoops and more emails and not refunded if their policy is not understood when I see your order is complete, I expect not to have to do anything further. When refunded requested, they stated I missed my window when they did nothing to earn my money. Bad enough they charge for blank disks which we wouldn't send if we had a way to review, edit, and/or save in digital form in first place.
I should have supported local and for 30 bucks more I would have had my product in 3 weeks not 5 months for a one box deal communication didn't come until the 4th month when I was told it was in processing delivered product is slightly above average will never use or recommend them good luck getting the to respond to emails and no phone number anywhere!
I truly wish I came to this review site before I purchased from these jerks! 4 months ago I trusted my treasured childhood film footage from the 60s and 70s to this company legacy box. I then waited for 4 months for them to Return. One thing they never make perfectly clear is they do not transfer the sound from videos Or restore anything. Also I did not receive one call back or response from my phone calls and promises to return my call within an hour. Obviously they're getting a lot of complaints. This is the last place I would ever go to to do this kind of project again. I seriously suggest anyone considering them go to their competitors.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
