Warning regarding Legacy Box process: I read the instructions sent to me when I prepared my photos to be digitized. I spent hours getting the 25 bar code fotos in a specific sequence. I sent instructions along with my 25 foto packets indicating they were in a specific order. I packed the fotos in bar code order 1-25. However, when I received the digitized fotos back the bar code packets were not in numerical order on the disc. When I called customer service to complain I was told that the information about possibly being out of order was on their website but was not in the printed material sent with the Legacy Box. I then received a note from customer service explaining that they might need multiple scanners to achieve the quality desired and thus we cannot guarantee that our team will be able to keep your fotos in the order you sent them. If I had known this I would not have ordered and paid for a second disc nor would I not have ordered a thumb drive. My goal in digitizing the fotos was to have them in a sequential form that made sense to other viewers. To secure this goal, I then had to rearrange the fotos in the order I wished on Shutterfly. The quality of the digitizing of the fortos was fine.

My niece bought a Legacy box for me to get our old home movies put on DVD. I sent them in and everything seemed fine until I tried to play the DVD. It went about 30 seconds and then stopped. I called the company and after trying to get through for a couple of days, I finally reached them. They had me send the box back and they redid it. This time when I played the DVD, it was printed in reverse. The writing on the buildings in the film was backwards so I couldn't even read where they were taken. They were also poorly edited. I could have done better. I have been trying to get in touch with them for 3 days now, but all I get on the phone is "Due to high volume...". I want to get these done right but I am not sure if I really want to send them back again.
After having costco transfer my movies only to find out they can't be edited I went to what I thought would be a reputable company- I read and re-read the info. No where does it say that the dvd's are not going to be editable! I would gladly have paid for the extra thumb drive if that is the only editable format- now, I can't get them to answer me to sovle my editing issue... will be telling my friends not to use this company, poor support.
I listened to their radio ads and decided to give them a try. Not only did it take 3X longer than advertised to complete and get my reels and dvds back to me, but 9 out of 10 were upside down and in reverse. I'll wait another day before filing a claim with my credit card company and BBB. They said they would refund my hard earned money, but I'm still waiting...
My experience with Legacybox has been a nightmare and I would give only one recommendation... DO NOT EVER USE THEM! I thought I was lucky to have a Groupon to save a ton, but it was the beginning of a horrible ordeal still unresolved! First, I never got the original box, so months later I contacted them and they sent out another one. That should have been a warning sign! So it finally came and after months of sorting thru boxes of photos... some 100 years old... I sent off 600 photos, 15 VCR tapes and 1 8mm movie. I was busy thru the Summer and never gave it much thought until Sept and checked online to see it was in the process of Digitizing so I waited a few more weeks and when I looked again it had never moved! So I finally contacted someone and the end of Oct. And expressed my fear that my precious items had either been sent to someone else or been lost! I then received my box a few weeks later... but nothing had been processed and the movie was missing! I have now been weeks trying to get my money back from them with no luck! I am only thankful my entire box was not lost or destroyed... but my priceless movie is still amongst the missing! DO NOT USE LEGACYBOX... EVER!
Beware-do not send in your videos to Legacy Box if you are on a deadline. Their website clearly states it will take a few weeks but only after they have your tapes do you find out that it takes 6-8 weeks. I paid extra for overnight shipping and they didn't even bother to do that. I called everyday for 3 weeks and they had my tapes in house but couldn't actually locate them. Very poorly run company. Costco does it better and faster.
This company provides an important service -- preserving irreplaceable videotapes and pictures. I just wish they paid as much attention to the product as to their image. I sent in 22 videotapes (VHS, 8mm, digital video). Most were copied correctly the first time, but they totally ignored the post-it notes that I had put on a few of the tape cases. Example: one note said the first 30 minutes of the tape were blank but the rest of the tape had recordings. They sent that tape back, uncopied, with a note that the tape was blank. My post-it note was still on the other side. There were major errors on a few other tapes (video and/or sound blackouts). After I complained, they re-did those tapes, but the quality of the redone tapes looked just a bit off. The price is fair, but only if you wait for the 45% or 50% off sales, which seem to come regularly. Once you get on their mailing list, the e-mail ads are relentless.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at [email protected] if there is anything else we can help you with!
