Sent in 20 VHS, all in perfect condition for playback, no lines, sharp. The digital copies I got back were 10 ok. 4 blank - nothing on them and they never took out the cases ( you can tell, all the others were in the wrong cases). 6 were just horrible copies, nothing like the sharp video they were sent, copied on dirty heads it looked like and unknown why all the jumping screens, just so bad! The originals have none of that. So After they make me go through all kinds of proof that took hours to create and send that they messed up, I send back 10 of them for re-doing.
During this time, I ask for my expedited shipping back since now it is taking twice as long, no money back. I asked them to please make sure before you return the re-do that you look at it to be sure that there are no issues. Of course they will. They also decided to send me an email about some media they are unable to process which upon more wasted time, was just a mistake. I get these copies back, 10 blurry. The 6 that were re-dos are exactly what was sent before only blurry this time like they just copied the digital files.
I would not give these incompetent people another chance they are extremely bad at what they do and they just do not care at all to get it right. I have asked for a 10 tape refund, but since they didn't want to refund $20 for their own incompetence, I doubt they will provide anything at all. Steer clear of these people, don't believe the commercials!

Big Waste of Money!
April 25, 2023

This review is for Legacybox's VHS tape to digital file converting service. I also had a few 8mm reels done and they turned out fine.
Anyway, I spent a lot of time converting dozens of my mini DV tapes to digital files as I had an old camera that still would play them. For capturing, I used Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus which works very well and is simple to operate. Since this process takes a lot of time I decided to send about 17 VHS tapes to Legacybox since they had a 50% off sale and thought I would save some time. They said it can take up to 3 months and kept wanting me to pay extra to move me up in the queue but I was willing to wait. While waiting, I received emails from them saying how excited they are and have the best equipment in the business. Then emails stating there are some quality issues with some of my tapes (not unexpected). I eventually received all my tapes back and a flash drive with all the converted tapes in file format. I cannot express how deeply disappointed I was to see that almost every transfer had serious issues which made then unwatchable. Some would have a blank screen with audio only, others would be jumbled frames constantly then off & on, while others would have a one-inch distorted line throughout the entire video. I broke out my two old VHS players, ran a tape cleaning cassette thru them and was able to FLAWLESSLY play each tape! I then used the above program and was able to FLAWLESSLY capture a so called "tape with Quality issues". Obviously, the equipment they use is garbage or they do not clean it up between jobs. I tried to contact the company to report their poor product but they do not have a way to do that. Looks like I'm out over $270.00 for their 20 item box and will have to spend many hours doing this the right way.

Hello Frank,

Our process is to provide a one-to-one transfer of each of your items as they play on our equipment. Since we do not offer any editing or enhancement services, any quality issues that exist on the original item will be present in the digital files. We’d like to make sure that we achieved a one-to-one transfer of your tapes, so it would be great if you could reach out to our team to further discuss your order. Our customer service team is available 7 days a week at [email protected] or by phone at 800-797-8210.

Hi Shannon,

We do apologize for the delay in processing times. While our average is 10-12 weeks, unfortunately that average can fluctuate depending on the formats and number of orders received, as each order is processed in the order in which it is received. We truly appreciate how patient you were with us!

Extortion
April 5, 2023

Sent in my box with 19 tabbed pieces. Get an email from the company saying I have 21 pieces….ridiculous! I counted it carefully. They are extorting money! I know how to count and was exceedingly careful preparing box. The customer service is terrible! I have requested a supervisor many times to Kellan but they refuse… no one calls me. They just want my additional $$$ for something I already fully paid for! Watch out. DONT USE
Them for your precious memories.

I spent HOURS organizing and numbering pictures for the digitization process. The pictures seemed to be grouped by "baggy," but not in order within the baggy. I was hoping to see the pictures on the flash drive in the somewhat chronological order in which I arranged them. To say that I'm upset is a gross understatement. For me, this was a complete waste of time and money.

Hi Anita,

Thank you for your feedback. Our goal is to create quality digital photo files for you to enjoy and share. We are happy to provide an overview of our process, outlining some of the reasons why it is not practicable for us to offer chronology as part of our digitizing service.

Difficult-to-scan photos require more attention and may be scanned on a different class of equipment from the rest of your collection. Scanner speed can alter photo order. And a final quality control check can reveal asymmetries that need corrective scans. For these reasons, and because we want to make our processes as efficient as possible, we cannot guarantee that our team will be able to keep your photos in the order you have sent them.

However, with the digitized.jpeg files, you'll be able to reorganize and arrange your memories exactly how you would like them on your computer.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us.

Thanks for the opportunity to voice my udder dissatisfaction with this company. I'm a professional photographer and an author and I personally have done quite a bit of digitizing on my own over the years. Having sent 8 mm films and color slides to these people, what I received back was a mess. I can't even understand how they could have done such a poor job. The framing in the digitized videos was changed from the originals. It was like changing the zoom factor by two or more. Many cut off heads and disproportional frames. Not sure how they managed that but I have my ideas and it boils down to poor craftsmanship and not checking their settings before executing the copy.
Then there is the quality. I understand garbage in-garbage out, but as I sit here in my living room watching the actual film on my dads old projector with my digital copy running side by side, all I can say is these people are hacks. They have no talent in what they are doing at all.
Let me add that I have personally digitized thousands of color slides in my time. It's a very simple process - you set parameters, scan, and then save as some form of digital photo file (.jpg) then you can edit in Photoshop. For some reason (they didn't give one) they were unable to digitize my color slides. Perfect condition color slides and they can't handle it. Very, very lame. I should think this would be one of the cornerstones of their business.
Overall they just don't have a rating low enough for these people to qualify and after going all around the web looking at comments and reviews, I'm wondering why I ever used them in the first place. This is a good example of "Haste makes waste" on my part. Now I have to find someone else to do their job for them and pay twice.

My opinion
March 25, 2023

They quality was great. Customer service and updates were great. However the offer for a returning customer, even with free shipping, was ALOT higher than offers I've been sent through email. For a return customer you give free shipping and $12.50 transfers but yet you send me emails offering $9 tape transfers. I would think your returning customers would get the better deal!

Misleading Pricing
April 5, 2023

Do not use legacybox. The advertised price keeps growing with unexpected charges and the alleged discounts disappear. Furthermore, they make no attempt to solve any problems. The customer service consists of denials and evasion of responsibility. I received 12 emails until I just gave up.

March 24, 2023

Legacybox is a great business to deal with. Any old photos, vhs, recorded memories they put on disc or flash drive for you. My father recently passed away and we sent in a box. Got the results back and the memories are priceless. Thank you Legacybox.

What a rip off!
April 5, 2023

I sent 10 VHS tapes to Legacybox in December of 2022. I paid over $100 for them to convert them to digital media. For weeks I received pointless "updates" on my order, and then in march received an email stating that "...one or more of your analog media items arrived with some pre-existing wear and tear. We did everything we could, but unfortunately were unable to convert it." No explanation or clarity (All tapes have been stored indoors and were in good shape.) Mind you, each tape had a bar code so they could have identified which tapes did not work---but they didn't. Instead, after 3 months I received my box with the tapes and a flash drive with 2- 20 minute videos in low resolution MP4 format. What a bummer. The customer service was non-existent by phone/email/text. Total rip off. I am a VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!

Hello Brenda,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We wholeheartedly apologize for your disappointment. We could not convert your tapes because they had preexisting damage that prevented us from being able to get a quality transfer. Please reach out to our Customer Service team to let us know if you want store credit or a refund for those items. You can email us at [email protected].

As Advertlised
March 21, 2023

I was referred to LegacyBox by a family member and proceeded with some trepidation. When you are sending off some very sentimental images of you and your family to someone you don't know but only have their "word for it" that they will protect the images and do what they say they'll do, it is a bit nerve wracking. However, my fears were never realized. LegacyBox did exactly what they said they would do, they stayed in communication as to the progress of the process, and the end product was as expected!

PROBLEMS WITH STORAGE ONLINE
April 5, 2023

When I first got my Legacy Box it seems like they kept adding one charge after another, but the real problem came with online storage of my media. I thought that was set up for life and it went to my Google Docs, but in the fall of 2022, I received an annual billing for $43, which was automatically charged to my credit card. A few weeks later, another bill came for the same amount, along with a threat to remove access to my content by Feb 10,2023. Rather than lose the content for which I had paid so much, I paid promptly, figuring Legacybox would make things right in the end. All my inquiries were ignored, and I soon started receiving threatening emails that I would lose my content. I sent more inquiries, careful to include my order numbers. These were ignored and my content disappeared from Google Docs. I would never refer a friend to this service. I downloaded as much as I could before the content disappeared from Google Docs. I canceled the yearly subscription to PayPal and PayPal refunded me my second payment and it working to reclaim the first payment.

They constantly send you emails on how they are progressing on you times however, they really aren't saying anything. When I questioned the customer service wanting to know what was really happening I was told a lie about when I sent in my items. Then I sent proof of the date they received my times it seems my items were moved to be processed. It seems as though they are trying to getting you to pay the expedite fee if you have not. I do not recommend this company. There is no indication of time per bar coded items and all those emails if just proof they take you money and wait unit the last minute to process the product. They should waste less time on the computer generated emails and more time on overseeing who is working on the service.

Legacy Box slow results
April 5, 2023

You say you will transfer tapes'
Send box I pack with tapes, BUT I have to wait 5 weeks for my shipping
Which you promised. Finally get to send tapes. Legacy then wants more money to process quickly.
Standard processing 8 to 12 weeks? Transferred 8 of 10. Took 2 1/2 months?
Sounds like a camel ride not a race car

April 5, 2023

I'm beginning my 13 week of waiting for my order. Each week they send another email that the order is safe and In Process. They advertise 10-12 week turnaround. Now saying 10-15 week. They won't tell me where the order is. No confidence. Beware

Great Value and Great Service
March 13, 2023

I recently decided to convert over 50 VHS-C tapes to digital and found Legacybox. Their prices were very reasonable. I was initially nervous about sending my family memories away so I decided to order two legacy boxes and break up my order. I paid to upgrade shipping and processing at a really reasonable price as I didn't want to wait too long to receive my tapes back.
The Legacybox website was very transparent regarding processing time for regular processing so the upcharge was well worth it, to me. I placed my order, and within a week, I received the packages. Included was everything I needed to pack up my tapes securely and label each one.
I dropped off my packages and within 7 days I had received receipt confirmations and also received secure emails to the digital files! That conversion was so fast! In another weeks' time I received both boxes back home with all of my tapes and digital CDs of the files for backups, all carefully repackaged and the CDs were bound and labeled to match each tape really nicely.
The conversion worked really well! All of the files play and look as good as a VHS tape, maybe a bit better.

We are so happy with the service that we are preparing to convert all of our photos and negatives to digital next. I highly recommend Legacybox. Don't be cheap, pay for the upgraded shipping and processing if you want faster service, it's well worth it. I'll be giving Legacybox more business soon!

Priceless Pictures
March 13, 2023

I sent Legacy Box over 300+ negatives of pictures my husband took while stationed in Vietnam during the war. He has held onto these pictures for over 55 years. He thought it was about time to have them transferred - we had CD's & a memory stick made. I was a bit nervous to send the only negatives of priceless pictures through the mail & trust that we would get them back. I am so glad I did. Legacy Box provided bar codes for each set of negatives I sent them so we were able to track their progress. Which gave me piece of mind that I knew where they were while not in my possession.
The look on my husband face while viewing these pictures was bitter-sweet. Not only did he take pictures of the base he was station at - he also took pictures of the Vietnamese friends he made and the children he had daily interactions with. I sure do wish there was a way for me to find out who is in some of the pictures.
If you are thinking about sending Legacy Box your precious memories, don't hesitate. DO IT! You wont be disappointed.

Awful
April 5, 2023

Don't waste your time with this, seriously. They will send you a ton of emails saying they're working on your order. Then when they decide they can't covert your media (due to being damaged on arrival yet they didn't alert me until they already shipped it back) they tell you tough luck. You will end up paying for x amount and getting less and they will keep your money. It took 3 months for us to get a few tapes back and after reading further reviews i will not be shocked if they are horrible quality. Don't waste your money and time.
