In order to access your IRS account you must log in with ID.me so naturally when you have a problem logging in you'll need to submit an IT ticket. The problem is ID.me has no competition because we're forced to use their service to access our IRS account therefore ID.me has no reason to provide adequate or even timely customer service. In fact I've reached out to them several times and they REFUSE to acknowledge me and I KNOW VERY WELL they're ashamed to even speak to users directly. 8 business days later they're still hiding and hoping that time will go by while we're stuck being forced to use ID.me
I have very limited tech skills so I was hesitant to try ID.me.
Our accountant recommended that I give it a try so I did.

It was easy to upload my ID photos and the color flashing video selfie was quite interesting!
I waited and waited and waited some more to simply interact with a live human being in the CHAT room. There was no customer support delivered at any time during the 3 or 4 attempts I made to use the CHAT room. It is impossible to contact the company to get answers, and the AI system that offers "help" is an absolute joke at ID.me.
God lord, trying to access the IRS for privous tax years was a literal s-show. Good luck. Be happy they arren't asking for your DNA or first born.

I set up my ID.me account several years back. It is attached to my Social Security information, and I have had no problems navigating the system whenever I've needed to access it. I love the way they verify my identity before any information is shared with me I would recommend it to anyone.
The overall, I D. Me to sign up for the on- line Social Security access was relatively easy. I just wasn't sure if the video photo captured the photo or not because it doesn't snap like an actual photo. Other than that the process is quite simple.
The Terms and Conditions suggest that unnamed third parties are involved. I was not convinced that IDS.me is secure or necessary.
Seems secure and straightforward. With ID.me I was able to retrieve an important document sane day vs 21-day wait and an unpredictable phone wait time
I AM NOT COMPUTER SAVVY AND EVEN WORSE WITH A SMART PHONE. MY EXPERIENCE SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED TO BEGIN WITH. THERE WAS NO NOTICE EITHER FROM IRS OR TURBO TAX THAT THE IRS NO LONGER SENDS PAPER CHECKS. IF I'D KNOWN THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO SPEND HOURS AND HOURS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THIS ID.ME THINGY. WHAT A FREAKING WASTE OF MY TIME.
It was a little hard to go through all the steps, but in the end, I understood the process and succesfully access my account.
I was forced to use this in order to put in my tax return. I feel violated and unsafe because of this. Worst of all is that the IRS rejected my tax return twice because I didn't correctly guess my AGI from 2024. I imagine that they have some kind of number in there, but I have no idea what it could possibly be.
I have an older model of a smartphone. I'm 75 years old and depend on my family to help me with technology sometimes. My phone camera didn't take good pictures. They are very shaky. I have dropped the phone too many times. I also can't take pictures because there is no more room on my phone. My son had to help me take a picture of my ID and the selfie on his IPad. He figured out how to make it work, and it did. I thought the way the selfie was reproduced was very interesting. I hope older clients have someone to help them like I did.
I was having difficulty signing in but once I deleted my account which took 24 hrs than I was able to create a new account and everything was done in minutes
I could not believe all the steps involved in creating an ID. Surely someone tried to come up with the most complex and confusing process. I doubt many will use.

It was fast and easy getting my ID me login, I can say it will make logging in to anything you us it on fast and so far for me safe.
The ID.me process is annoying, complicated, time-consuming, it has bugs, and I hated the process that I was forced into so that I could get access to my State Retirement Account. If I didn't have to use AI, I would not for such an important function as accessing my Retirement Account.
