I've used ID.me for a while now and it adds another layer of security to my personal information that I'd like to keep safe. I feel safer using it along with my other security factoring methods.
From start to finish was 6 weeks, and took 24 hours to get final video set up to verify my documents. Started at 4:00 on a Sunday and was 4:00 on Monday before I spoke to an agent. When I clicked the start button it said 2 hours and 43 min to wait, 8 hours later was 1 hour and 45min. When I restarted the process said 2 hours and 40 min and it took another 8 hours.
I was obligated to go through all the ID.me steps for my personal ID verification in order to be able to access my account with IRS, gov. It was all new to me, and I'm not the most tech-savvy guy, so it took a lot of effort on my part to get appropriate documents uploaded, and then get ready for a video conference. The wait time, which was presented to me as a little over 3 hours, in fact turned out to be nearly 8 hours. Luckily I had nothing else really pressing, so I spent most of the day waiting my turn. Finally got served in mid to late afternoon. Yes, I know you can make an appointment with them, but at the time I started the procedure, I felt I could handle the 3-hour wait time while I fiddled with other online stuff. But to see it gradually turn into a nearly 8-hour wait time was just a little vexing! Anyway, the lady who hosted my video call was pleasant and efficient, and everything turned out okey dokey. The key thing I'd like to point out to any newcomers is that their advertised wait times seem to be wildly off the mark. If you have more pressing things to do, then by all means, opt for the appointment route.

Then the day of the video call, having to wait OVER 8 HOURS for the call to go through. Estimated Wait time was off by HOURS, not minutes. Rude uncaring agent.
Using ID.me is a very useful key, especially for government websites. Once you complete the initial application and are approved, all following website entries are a breeze. Your personal information is never exposed and the process is quick and secure.

In order to gain access to my personal info on IRS, I have to go through ID.me, which appears to have very clean and easy to follow instructions and process, however the process is long, waiting process may take months, so I suspect there is a very good system in the backend, however, there is not enough man power to support it? I don't know.
Also the video conferencing waiting time was way too long, you have to set aside an entire afternoon to wait for it, agent seem to be very busy, even when you start talking, they seem to be a in hurry to move on to the next call, i don't blame them, they must be real busy.
I had to wait about 7hrs for video verification of documents and the wait time indicator was highly unreliable. I would give negative stars if allowed to do so.

It took a week to complete the process. At several points, I was invited to schedule a specific time with an ID.me agent, but then found that there were no times available for the next 7 days.
The wait time shown was 2 h 14 m. The actual wait time was 9 h. If you see a wait time longer than 15 min, make an appointment.
I spent over 50 hours in front of my computer screen waiting for an opportunity to speak with the ID.me representative. Interaction with the representative, once I finally managed to get there, was good. There is an option available to schedule a meeting time however a prospective user will find that no times are available for weeks into the future. I was not able to wait for weeks therefore I sat in front of my computer until was finally able to speak with a representative. The "wait time" countdown clock is a joke as it floats up and down randomly and absolutely does not represent the remaining wait time. Unless you schedule an appointment, you have no choice but to stay very close to the computer screen.
It can be difficult to prove your identity, particularly if your phone number, address, or name has changed due to marriage or another reason. ID.me worked for me, without a lot of stress! I am very pleased.

Theoretically you can book an appointment two weeks in advance, but the system only offered appointments during the next 7 days, and zero time slots were available..
