Bad experience. Didn't fix the problem that the verification of calling my home phone didn't work. Phone didn't ring to give me code, a system didn't recognize my alternative cell phone. Therefore I was required to talk to live agent, with several hours of waiting time. Waiting time approximations were incorrect.
It was a good experience for me, as I've never gone thru the process before, and the video call, was also a great experience.
This is a great source of identity verification for government agencies and corporate institutions. Thorough verification vetting initially ensures major convenience down the road.
Absolute garbage product/service. These guys would not survive if people weren't forced to use them to access the IRS and CA DMV websites. If alternatives were offered for accessing those sites, I would never use this trash. I was fully verified ages ago with a fully functioning online account, but then I tried to use it again recently and they forced me to re-verify all over again. Wasted half a day waiting for their stupid verification call when I was already verified.
In order to get this to take I you will have to send pictures of your drivers license. Then it takes a selfie. This did not go through for me so I had to do a chat call. Hopefully you will get a kind person on that call, mine was not. Took over 2 weeks, however I am glad I got it done.
Instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Uploading process went very well. The waiting for interview with a real agent was the only slow process. When I discovered I could make an appointment and did so it was very easy. The interview was the easiest part of the process.
I waited 3 hours to get a video conference. When it came the background noise prevented me from hearing it well. What the heck, no website works for an 80 year old woman with no help. This was scary similar to another scam. It got done, but I had to trust. A little.
I didn't know what to expect by enrollment in id me. But after getting in and completing the process with the agent I was very pleased.
Needed to verify for IRS. Self service process did not work. Error E4301. Setting up the video call did not work. Error E4301. Had to take pictures if documents at least 10 times each before it would register that it was uploaded. Chat bot was completely useless. Eventually only saying the same statement verbatim over and over. Finally got it to send me to a chat with a real person. Had to wait for that chat and was kicked out of line 2 times because I missed the multiple 10 minute confirmation prompts, as they did not have any audible tone. I was eventually connected with Cedric who helped get the documents to finally upload. Initially I tried to upload. Jpg, which was an acceptable file type, but the website said it wasn't so I had to convert them into. Png. Cedric sent me a link to upload a secondary document. I had an actual. Pdf of the document, but the site wanted another picture, When I uploaded that I was told it was too big. I ended up having to convert and shrink the picture multiple times and eventually got a size that was under 16MB. Then I got a link to get in line for a video call. I initially joined the queue at 8:30 AM, with an estimated 38 min wait time. I eventually got on the call after 1 PM, after watching the wait time go up and down all day. The call was quick and to the point, very easy. Cedric also followed up with an email to check if I needed anything else. So the process was abysmal, and I only got anything done when I could eventually reach a human. If anyone ever askes me about ID.me I will tell them to avoid it like the plague if possible, and if not, be prepared to take two days of work, to complete what should be 30 minutes of business, all while jumping through many, many, unnecessary hoops.
ID.me has proved time and time again, its service can be trusted to deliver safe and secure discounts to veterans. Thanks for being and effective conduit to access savings on nearly everything imaginable.

If you are using ID.me, good luck to you, and I hope you have lots of time to waste. I wasted 7.5 hours over 2 days, watching their little Document Review Wait Time counter go up and down and up and down and up and down. Interestingly, on both days, the counter started at 1 hour 5 minutes, ticks down slowly, every now and then, jumping back up. After 3 hours on the first day, it had gotten down to 17 minutes, but then started going up again, and I had to bail. After 4.5 hours of waiting and the counter bouncing up and down, it FINALLY got down to zero. Obviously, the wait time counter does not reflect reality. NOTE: The single star is because I was unable to give the ZERO STARS that ID.me deserves.
The wait time for someone to get back to me was too long. Very complicated. I could not have done it without my neighbors help.

Quote 20 minutes for an agent to verify my documents (Yes they still use humans to verify) - and waited essentially 4 hours before the system then said 'As I am overseas they will tell me when they can verify my overseas passport (Which they knew from the first prompt).
I waited nearly a month before my documents were verified! A month! Then I met a human who literally looked at my passport photo and me and said - yes that's you. In todays day and age what a waste of money and time. Why are you using humans to do what AI and tech can do. If its good enough to get my passport using it - I would say its good enough for you to use to verify my identity.

This was the most frustrating process, but typical of what I have come to expect for anything related to the government, and especially the IRS. What a rip off!
