The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in its identity verification service, which many users found secure and efficient, particularly praising the helpfulness of customer service during video calls. However, significant concerns were raised regarding the complexity of the verification process, which some customers found frustrating and time-consuming, particularly older users or those with unique identification issues. Additionally, delays and technical difficulties, including issues with document acceptance and login credentials, have led to dissatisfaction among several users. Overall, while the service is valued for its security, improvements in user experience and support are essential.

Nice short and to the point explanation of the process to expedite the process with how the confirmation can be completed. I would advise people to consider talking to someone who has gone through the experience before with ID.me.
Horrible experience. I entered all my info correctly and it just gave me an error code with no information. Was it the selfie, was it the info, my address, my email? We will never know because it gave me no info.
I was forced to use this so i could get Tax documents and had to enter it 5-10 times before the video call worked. I
The process is ridiculous the steps you require are ridiculous asking a person to give you that information you shouldn't be asking for just to fill out an application
Felt forced into using or risk losing online access to my own social security (and other) data. Process was cumbersome, slow, difficult and fraught with false starts. I personally have some security knowledge but had to struggle through it. This is the same pattern I have experienced in other government programs - it seems the fed never learns
L had to pay estimated irs quarterly taxes. Irs needed verification of my identity. L read the instruction incorrectly initially. Once l realized my mistake, it smooth sailing.
The only reason to require this info is for building facial recognition algorithms and data harvesting. Absolutely avoid at all costs if you have any other alternatives. It should be illegal for any company, or the government for that matter, to be collecting this kind of data.
It was secure with all the layers of verifying your identity. That I liked. However, it kept rejecting my email. That became frustrating. I will try again next tax season hopefully I will do better navigating the system.
They are located overseas and it is VERY concerning that your sensitive information is being sent to someone outside of the US. The IRS forces you to utilize the!
Almost impossible to use. They promised to call me to give me help, but that proved not to be true.
I hope you have better luck than I did.
It was long and for someone that does not know computers and does not deal with computers all the time it's a lot easier with pain and paper and talking to somebody in real life on the phone
I was hesitant about this way of retrieving my past tax information but I got through it and retrieved what I needed and it was fairly simple.
I received a letter from the IRS saying that my 2025 return couldn't be deposited into my checking account because the information regarding my checking account was incomplete and/incorrectly.
I proceeded to contact the IRS but was forced to deal with "ID.me". I was put through procedures to verify my identity despite NEVER having to go through this ever before. The system froze me out send me codes that were "invalid". I was finally directed to an AI system that responded with circular answers that frustrated me even more. I stopped that conversation and, after poking around on some page (not sure of if I was on "ID.me" or the IRS page this point. I then found my banking info and put in my bank account routing and account numbers. Believe me, this process was a real pain and unnecessary. I'm now going to see how long it will take to get my federal return. My tax was prepared and sent to the IRS TWO MONTHS AGO. So much for "efficiency". What a mess.
I was quite apprehensive about it as i am not that computer savvy, but as a veteran and VA employee, i had to. But once i entered and set up account. Everything was smooth sailing
I don't like doing stuff like this. I get confused, real easy, especially when it comes to putting something on line
Kept failing in its acceptance of documents and no path forward to get to what was needed to upgrade.
After several uses of this ID.me site, I only ever made it to the secure site I was trying to access once. And that was the first time. It doesn't remember my information, requires that I start from the beginning over and over and fails to actually get you to the site you are trying to access. ID.me is a terrible solution.
