I hired a car from Green motion for my holidays in Cyprus 2025. The price was competitive, car was adequate and clean. Overall service was very satisfactory and courteous staff. On time collection service and easily located near the airport in Paphos. I will use again

The staff were lovely and vehicle we got was great, however the thing that destroyed the experience for us was the full cost of the excess being deducted from our account…. Rather than just a hold on this amount that was released when returning the vehicle. This meant that by the time the funds were refunded to us several weeks later… we lost another $100 or so on the exchange rates. We have hired cars many times and have never had to pay the excess up front like this. In the middle of a holiday all the way from Australia it left us much shorter of funds than we expected to be.

Upon arrival at the airport, you have to wait about 30 minutes for the shuttle to arrive, which will take you a few steps to the rental office. We waited too long there, and then had to deal with the paperwork and the sale of various insurances not included in the rental. It's good to understand English if you don't want to buy an extra product.

The car is reliable, but there's no comprehensive insurance and they ask for quite a hefty deposit, almost twice the expected cost. In the end they give it all back, but it feels like having a sword of Damocles hanging over your head!

The Branch in Tirana was closed at 1 after midnight. Everything was confirmed by email before. They see 27.6. At 1 p.m. not a.m. even they had a flight details. At the end they provide us quality car and drop off the car went without the problem.

I didn't experience any problems with the rental. However, the 142 euros deducted from my card for the highway toll during the rental period have still not been refunded.
I emailed about this issue, but I haven't received a single reply.

Answer: DON'T do it. They advertise low and sting you at the counter! Clerks hard sell additional insurance (they get a commission). In Glasgow, Scotland this last August, they tried to get me to pay $800 in insurance to cover a ten day rental that was about $35 a day! Many people have posted about scams where they charged unsuspecting customers for "damages" that were already on the car but the customer may not notice, like a tiny chip in the windshield or a small scratch on the door edge.
Answer: Speeding/parking tickets and police action are slow. They keep the deposit until they are sure there will be no problems with any of those costs. (and yeah, would be speeding fine + massive green motion fee).

I can confirm that security deposits are automatically released by Green Motion on the last day of your rental after it has been established that the rental vehicle has been returned in the same condition as it was provided, and there are no further outstanding charges. Whilst in most cases this is available again within 10 working days, unfortunately, this can take up to 30 days depending on the bank that you use. We suggest that you contact your bank as they may be able to speed this process up for you. Green Motion's policy is to use pre-authorised transactions for our security deposits, which ring-fence the amount within your account, not charge it. This pre-authorised transaction will allow us to make charges if necessary at the end of the rental, but unless this occurs no money will leave your account. Due to the nature of this transaction, the release of these funds may not show on your bank statement as a separate transaction. If you believe that you have been charged your security deposit, please contact your bank and ask them to provide proof of the transaction as a charge on the first day of your rental so that we can look further into this for you. If this amount is still not available in your account after 30 days from the last day of your rental, please contact us at [email protected]. Answer: I believe Green Motion are a perfectly fair and respectful company. I suspect you didn't read their Ts&Cs properly. The two customers being served while I was collecting my car had also not read/understood the conditions and were caught by surprise. The representative dealt with them firmly but fairly.
