I don't recommend booking thru getaroom unless you like paying at least $50 more for a room you can book through the actual hotel just as quick and easy and save yourself paying this 3rd party booking site $50+ to do the same thing you can do through the hotel website or phone # and even get your member discount in advance instead of having to wait to prove your membership till you arrive and get refunded. Also they make sure once you do book you can't cancel when you find out you've been ripped off or you will still be stuck paying full price while the actual hotel booking site will allow you to cancel up to 24hrs in advance of your check in for no or little charge depending on hotel
I booked through this site - when I got to the hotel I was informed that I did not have a reservation - turned out the reservation was made for the lower class hotel next door (entirely different address). I was not able to speak with anyone regarding this matter any of the 100 times I called. I was then charged for the higher rate in the nicer hotel - although that is not where I stayed. HORRIBLE BUSINESS!
**UPDATE** I was contacted by Carrie with Getaroom.com. She was able to work with the hotel and get my 2nd payment refunded to me. I was very pleasantly surprised by this resolution. I wish it hadn't come to this but all's well that ends well.**
I'll do everyone one better. I paid $198.00 (charged to my credit card immediately) for a room only to get told at checkout that the hotel did not show the payment made for $198.00. I showed them my confirmation and advised that the hotel room had been paid in full, upfront, charged to my credit card (charges showing on my credit card online statement already) and the hotel said that they did not receive payment from Getaroom.com. I had to pay for the room AGAIN. Thankfully the hotel didn't charge the exorbitant fees that Getaroom.com tacks on but I still had to pay an additional $154.50. I've seen so many negative reviews now, both about experiences upfront and after that it wouldn't even be worth my time to contact the company. Be aware - you may be booking through them without even knowing it!
AVOID, £365 ADDED TO MY HOTEL ROOM BOOKING AS 'FEES.' THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND THE COMPANY HAS AN AWEFUL VIBE ABOUT IT. PRETEND TO SORT IT OUT BUT DONT HAVE THE CUSTOMER IN MIND. DO NOT PUT YOUR CARD DETAILS INTO THIS SITE AS IT WILL COST YOU MORE THAN YOU THINK. ALL I WANT IS A FULL REFUND.
The URL shows up on top in Bing as if it is the hotel's own site. Then you land on a page titled Guest Reservations. It's all slick and looks genuine, but I was too much in a hurry to compare and look closely at their outrageous fees. Now I feel bad about myself and hope the hotel is not going to treat me funny for being accosted by GetARoom. This is exactly what it feels like being molested. I also blame the search engine for accepting business from scammers like GetARoom.
I was Hotel jacked by this business. Made a request to hold rooms in local hotel at corp rate for Vendor project team. This company immediately charged my corporate card for all the rooms and never informed me. THEN they misspelled my complete name on the reservation and invoice and refused to correct it even though I spend over an hour with CS on the phone. Now due to audit controls I am out 2k because the invoice does not have my legal name on it. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY OR YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU DO NOT EXPECT - GOOD SERVICE AND HONESTY
As I see many others thought they were on the hotel website and it was actually a third party. They charged me $150 more for the same room I could book on another site. I never book rooms that are non refundable but this one charged me and they are now saying it is nonrefundable. AVOID at all costs!
I accidentally cancelled a reservation thinking it was a duplicate (there were 2 Hyatt hotels involved and several rooms). 2 seconds later I realised the mistake and tried to reverse the cancellation. Called customer service but could not get through to a human being. Charged $548 for the mistake. Do not ever book through GetARoom.
On Saturday night I tried to book a reservation for Great Wolf Lodge for the following Monday. Called the hotel Monday morning with a question, the lady looked up my reservation number, confirmed the reservation, and answered my question. When we arrived around 330pm, the front desk agent said our reservation (looked up by my name) was made for a week from now. I gave her the confirmation number, she said it didn't come up in their system. She told me it was booked with a MasterCard ending in XXXX. I told her no, that is not my card, I booked with this Visa (handed her the card).
At the end of all this, the hotel is booked 100% and we can't get a room at all. I asked if I could at least get my son in the water park for the day since the third party (Trip Advisor/Getaroom) messed up the reservation. She said yes, for $50 a person! The whole ordeal was absurd. Will never book through Trip Advisor or Get a Room again, will not recommend Great Wolf Lodge.
I thought I booked a room at a Hilton for my client, paid them the money and they never even made the reservation. I checked with Hilton and they had no record of the reservation. When I called I was told it was non-refundable.
So, they get to take your money, not do what you paid them to do and there is no refund or recourse.
Never use this fraudulent service unless you like having your money stolen. The kicker is that I never knew I was making a reservation with them in the first place as it looks as if you are on the Hilton reservation site.
When they stand before God one day for deliberately screwing people over I will be just fine with them getting their just punishment. How do they sleep at night?
On February 5th I located what I believed to be the website for the Hilton Garden Inn in Phoenix, I never use a 3rd party when making reservations, and made reservations through the site for February 11th. I was immediately charged $262.49. I recall vaguely thinking that was unusual as the hotels normally charge after you arrive. On February 11th we drove the 3-1/2 hours to Phoenix for a concert and when I went to check-in at the Hilton I was told there was no reservation under my name. I located my confirmation email and it was then that I was advised the reservation had been made through getaroom.com. I'd never even heard of that business! The desk clerk attempted to locate my reservation using the confirmation number I was provided and I was told it didn't conform to the Hilton's system and he couldn't locate anything. Fortunately they had a room available for $20 less. As soon as we got into our room I contacted my credit card company and advised them of the situation and I filed a dispute for the charges and they froze the payment. A few weeks later I was advised that getaroom.com was disputing my dispute and when I received the paperwork it showed they were claiming they spoke with "Jeff" at the front desk of the hotel and I had cancelled my reservation! They also claimed that they follow each hotels cancellation policy and they said the Hilton does not refund on cancellations! I contacted the Hilton and spoke with the Front Desk Manager. She advised me they do not have a Jeff working the front desk and was kind enough to send me an email stating the same. She also advised their cancellation policy is they will refund with a 48 hour notice. I provided the email, along with additional information to my credit card company and was advised today that the dispute has been resolved and my account credited the full disputed amount. Bottom line is be very cautious when making reservations! I will no longer make them online! I had to waste a lot of my own time because of this disreputable company!
The person that I talked with was very knowledgable, comprehensive in aking sure she had the right reservation for me. What more can I say.
Booked a room, HAD NO IDEA I WAS in A 3RD PARTY RESERVATION LINK. GAR "NEVER" IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES UNTIL THE ENTIRE SALE WAS OVER. THE SALES REP TOLD ME I COULD GET MY HILTON HONOR POINTS WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE HOTEL, WHICH WAS FALSE, HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS RESERVATION CAME WITH CANCEL ANY TIME! AND IT WAS IN RED BOLD PRINT ON MY RECEIPT. WELL WHENI NEEDED TO LEAVE TOWN ONE DAY EARLY THEY WOULD NOT REFUND ONE NIGHT AND REFUSED TO WORK WITH MY AMERICAN EXPRESS COMPANY TO REFUND ME... CLAIMED I WAS THE FRAUDULENT ONE.
GET A ROOM IS A SCAMMING CON ARTIST, AND IF THEY READ THIS AND FEEL LIKE THEY WOULD LIKE TO MAKE RETROBUTION ON MY CASE BEFORE I GO SCREAMING IT TO EVERYONE THEY CAN LOOK UP RESERVATION... R*******933... THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBLITY FOR THEIR POORLY TRAINED STAFF AND THE WRITING IN THE CONTRACTS. A SALE NEVER ENDS AT THE END OF A SALE, THIS ONE HAS GONE SOUR AND I HAVE NO PROBLEM TELLING EVERYONE UNLESS THEY DECIDE TO REFUND MY 198.99... and stop passing the buck
Spoke with a great customer service agent, Carrie M., she resolved all my issues, questions and concerns. Thank you. Went to 4 stars, will follow up with 5 after all is complete.
When booking my hotel reservation for last weekend I accidentaly booked on GETAROOM since the website listed the "name of the hotel.com" at the top of the page, making it seem as if I was on the hotel's webpage. GETAROOM's profile states: Getaroom.com offers travelers access to incredibly low rates via our state-of-the-art hotel and lodging website (www.getaroom.com). That statement is misleading since it doesn't tell you that their added tax/fees will actually cost you more that booking directly with the hotel. Customer service is poor if you need to make changes - long holds and disconnected phone calls.
Was charged in US dollars for some reason, and booked 2 people instead of the one I asked for. Will not use again
We made a reservation for 2 rooms for 2 nights and when we got confirmation, it was for 3 nights. We immediately called back to correct, we were basicly told, tough luck. No change. On top of that, we could of walked into the door of the Hamptom and saved $39 per night and would not of had to stay the 3rd night. Getaroom will scam you. Do NOT use them. PS: If i could of rated a zero, i would have.
Terrible lying experience. On the phone 30 plus minutes to get no resolve. No seems to able to help keep putting you on hold and another person picks to start all over again.
BEWARE! They hijack you from other sites and add huge fees and NO ABILITY to cancel. Hilton is aware of it. I tried to stay on the Hampton site and was hijacked by getaroom. They charged me $137 for the room and $111 for their fee! If you try to cancel they refund NOTHING! Thank goodness for my credit card company... I am going to BBB and States attorney generals office. The site also has no human to talk to. Just recordings about losing all your money if you have a problem. STAY AWaY!
The sheets were dirty, the toilet didn't flush, they didn't clean the rooms, the water pipes burst which meant that we didn't have water to shower, and they didn't return the money they promised.
Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.
Answer: I'm definitely in. There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.
Answer: Call 800-468-3578 but good luck. They are scammers
Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
