Expedia Reviews Summary

Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

Their website would not confirm any bookings and asked to try again. After trying without success a few times, I was notified a bit later that all duplicate reservations went through. They were unwilling to waive the $100 cancellation fee for each duplicate reservation. $400 in fees for their website errors... that hurts so much

My brother passed away unexpectedly and my sister is getting married within a few weeks of each other. I purchased the tickets at the same time. Try to deal with all of the emotions & having a face full of tears, I was a numb, heartbroken & dejected. I mistakenly swapped AM/PM departure times for the flights. Headed to the airport for my brothers funeral I was made aware that i missed the flight and would need to contact Expedia to get on the next pm flight by the airline who was more than willing to assist me. Expedia refused to help me with the change. So i was able to say my final goodbye's to my older brother. May he rest in peace. Feeling helpless, Expedia added additional stress and trauma while grieving. Once again after contacting the airline, I called Expedia. A week prior to the wedding to explain the AM & PM mix up and was told this is our P&P(policy & procedure) we can't do anything. I never yelled or got upset at any of the reps. I simply asked if they would show a little mercy and try to assist as American Airlines said again it's no issue we have a 7am flight just call Expedia and they can change it for you. After 30 minutes pleading with different levels of service reps resulting in no help. My friend called booking.com who is attending the wedding and they changed her flight in minutes on a basic economy no insurance no change ticket as she explained I gave her incorrect info due to the aforementioned events. I'm speaking to Expedia rep's who are telling me to contact the airline- i let them know the airline can help but, I had to go through the site first so it looks like I'll miss both because Expedia only cares about their policy. I was asked to cancel the flight request for a refund wait for the refund then book the correct flight with no consideration to time, cost, or availability by a rep. Vs. Them just changing the flight with an internal credit that they truly didn't have to issue if they would just change the flight. It is my personal opinion that individuals within organizations with limited power should contain a certain measure of grace to provide to others. This flight and ability to change it was / is there but the individuals were unwilling to assist. (Kath is the name of the supervisor). We have all lost a family member and have had weddings to attend as well as made a small error. The issue here is are you willing to do what's right and help another person & explain what you did was for the right reasons or are we so afraid of our employer who will replace us in a heart beat that we can't show kindness to the people that help us earn a salary.

Buyer beware:
September 17, 2022

Buyer beware:
Expedia scammed me out of my refund by canceling my travel insurance instead of canceling by booking. Now I don't have travel insurance for my booking and I can not receive a refund from my hotel. They don't even have an email for help anymore. I search for an email and all I found was this, *******@expedia, I received an email from that address saying that the email address was retired. After talking to customer support several times, I received an email saying I am not entitled to receive a refund because the hotel will not give one because I canceled my insurance, no Expedia canceled my insurance. I am going to report Expedia to the BBB and any other consumer reporting agency I can find. My friends and I will create a Tic Tok campaign exposing Expedia's unfair business practices to promote "Do not make reservations through Expedia or any other 3rd party booking agency. Just find the deal and book through the businesses directly."

Very sketchy business practices. Customer Service is non-existent. Be very careful when you cancel a reservation. I got scammed out of $200 when I cancelled my reservation as they never provided a confirmation email when I did it. Worst travel booking website I came across. You will also find better deals elsewhere. Better to book directly with the hotel.

Expedia runs a SCAM!
September 13, 2022

We booked our flight through Expedia three months ahead of our departure. We paid almost $200 to be able to select our seats. We received an email from the airline confirming our flight AND our seat selections. One month before our flight, we receive an email stating that there is a problem with our flight and to call the airline. We did. Apparently, even though we paid to select our seats, even though we received confirmation of our seat selection. We did not have those seats. We had to cancel the entire flight and re-book for an ADDITIONAL $733.00.
So if you see an opportunity to pay extra to select your seats... IT IS A LIE! They falsely lead you to believe you are getting the seats you paid for, but you are NOT! They are just trying to take your money. Lesson learned: don't use Expedia and book directly with the airline.

Horrible Experience
September 6, 2022

Using Expedia as a third party for a flight ended being such a horrible experience. I only wanted to make a flight change and I was played around and told by Expedia that I need to contact the airlines and the airlines told me to go and contact Expedia. I contacted both many times (more than 2 weeks before the flight date) and nobody helped. Then I tried to cancel my flight and again I was told the same thing so I ended losing the flight. No refund or travel voucher was given and it won't be as they already confirmed. Expedia Customer Service is very poor. Pls make sure to read some reviews before buying anything from this company. As a good advice, always try to buy directly from the airlines.

I do not recommend Expedia to anyone. Especially for international trips. Expedia works mainly with shady businesses. I booked through Expedia a car rental in Romania for 580$. Over there I became surrounded by very polite and tricky people who cheated me into paying in the end 2,300$. In vain I tried to complain and fight. Expedia became a cheating shady group, they made me loos lots of money. Do not use them

Expedia doesn't make customer aware of hidden fees
September 2, 2022

I just finished a trip to Boston. I was charged an extra $45 for parking. When I reached out to Expedia, they just shrugged their shoulders and pointed at the hotel. I told them they should make the customer aware of extra fees and they shrugged again.

Piece of $#*! Company
August 30, 2022

I hate this company. I had a credit issued due having to cancel a flight due to COVID. When I finally was able to find a flight with Jet Blue, who they booked the vacation package with, the agent kept me on the phone for over an hour with the worst accent that I could not understand a word she said without repeating it 12 times, for no reason. She was trying to pull up the details of the credit. Beware if they offer you a credit for anything. I would steer clear of this company!

Expedia is a scam
August 19, 2022

DO NOT USE EXPEDIA - it's a total scam! I was promised an airline credit, still waiting for somebody to get back to me about it. Have had to contact Expedia 4/5 times (via stupid chat portal, no you can't call them) and each time I'm told they are investigating. I know realize the agents will lie and tell you anything just to get you off the chat. Save yourself a lot of time and just book with the airline/ hotel directly. Expedia is just a scam with lying agents working for them. I don't know who is reviewing on their own website - cannot be real customers, just look at their Facebook page and reviews to see how many thousands of people have had similar issues/experiences

I had booked a hotel and airfare package and they would NOT refund the hotel under any circumstances, they said it was non refundable, but the website says "no problem" if you cancel within 24 hours no issues with refunds. It was 3 months ahead of the time we booked, so they could not refund the hotel? I can see if it was last minute but they had plenty of time to re book the room. I bought the Travel Ins and a lot of good that did me! I was not able to get the time off of work and produced all the documentation they wanted. They said they would only refund me if there was a death or I was fired from my job. So I will NEVER book with them again. I have booked with other agencies and never had a problem. I have talked to friends who have told me they wouldn't even allow a hotel change with the trip they purchased, Very disappointed..

I booked a roundtrip airfare in 2022 from Philippines to the US. The airlines were EVA Air and Alaska Air. After 20 days, I was notified that EVA Air cancelled the flight. Expedia said the travel insurance was only refundable if flight cancelled first 15 days. SO no refund. I was told the credit card would be refunded for the flight. After 10 days I called go ask why no refund. Expedia then lied and said it was not refundable. By law, any trip that any segment touches the US or Europe has to be refunded to the same purchase credit card. I refused to accept some crummy Expedia voucher only I could use and would have to use within 11 months. Refunds are not negotiable. File a complaint with the Depart of Transportation and you will get your money back. I finally got my refund from EVA Airlines. I never got the $105 for travel insurance refunded. I will never use Expedia again. Note that TripAdvisor is a sister company.

Verify your bookings
August 10, 2022

Two nights in a row Expedia double booked the hotels. I received confirmation emails from Expedia and when I arrived to the hotel I found out I had no room. The second hotel called me to tell me Expedia double booked the room.

Call the hotel to verify you have a room. Oh don't let me forget Expedia was only going to refund me 50% for a Cancellation Fee even though it was no fault of mine.

They don't even deserve a star. They advertise a hotel room for 109.00 and changed the date to next month and charged me to change it back to the original date for 85.00 more as if i made the mistake within less than an hour. I even screenshot the original offer, a bunch of thieves

No customer care
August 8, 2022

First… hard to find CSR number. Second… customer service rep barely knew English. Third…it took me two hours to find out that two canceled flights netted me $92. I will never use Expedia again.

I booked two tickets with Expedia Germany but had to reschedule them because I got COVID. The booking terms stated that it was possible to change the travel dates. When I contacted Expedia to explain them my situation, they first wanted me to give them my new trip dates! HOW CAN I KNOW WHE I AM GOING TO TRAVEL, IF I AM SICK AND NEED TO GET A VISA! After arguing for days, they finally gave me a voucher that I vould use to reschedule my trip. I have the visa and looked for new tickets on their website. I called to book them, and Expedia's rep told me that those rates apply to new bookings only! The rate I have to pay is waaaay higher! It does not make sense! They are thieves and scamers. Do never book with them!

I had a trip booked that had to be cancelled, I received a confirmation email confirming cancellation and indicating I had a flight credit vouched and would receive an email with the details of using it, expiration, etc. I hear nothing for 9 months when I received an email reminding me it expired the following month. However, when I went to use it, I was told it had expired 2 months ago, even after informing them of the reminder email I had just received, customer service refused to do anything about it, just stating it had expired and there was nothing they could do, it was their money now. Their mistake cost me $500.
