Expedia Reviews Summary

Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

I tried expedia to book a hotel room in Bali and the company was not helpful in keeping the reservation or working with you if you needed to cancel the reservation because of events beyond your control, I would recommend booking with expedia on international booking, flights and hotels because you will lose all your money

No help from Expedia
December 12, 2022

Expedia has been giving me the run around for 2 months because of an error made on my reservation. They blame United and after missing 1 day and night of vacation, re booking for a lesser accommodations they refunded me 72.06 —-what a joke!

This is a company who refuses to help those who contract with them for travel. They consistently pass the blame and after all of this I am now charging back the entire trip on my credit card and will have to pursue legal avenues because they refuse to honor the reservation I made. I also had purchased travel insurance but apparently human error is not covered so that also is something to avoid.

Lies and holding refund
December 10, 2022

So tried to cancel a hotel booked through Expedia and not only could they not get me to a person on the phone the reps WILL lie to you. The rep said that he tried and the hotel said there was nothing they could do to get me a refund. I called the hotel and the lady that took care of me said that nobody from Expedia had reached out. When I asked about the cancelation she was happy to refund my money within a minute of our conversation. Well, the money that was refunded to me went to Expedia and not me so not only did I not get my refund, Expedia is holding it from me! I did in fact call The hotel again and they gave me confirmation number of the refund so this is possibly how Expedia makes their money.

To company to avoid
November 30, 2022

I used Expedia to book a flight from Catania, Italy to Boston Massachusetts. My wife and I sat together and booked the flight making sure of our options. We choose a flight with Lufthansa with 1 stop and included our seats with the booking. During the process, we received a message that seat assignments were not available and I would need to call the airline to select. The following day, I tried using Lufthansa's website to select seats and cancelled the process when it wanted to charge me $90.00. I called Lufthansa and was told I had to pay for my seats assignments. I told them I had already paid for that and was told I need to speak Expedia.
When I called Expedia, I either wanted my seat assignments or cancelled the reservation. The agent I spoke with was not able to make the assignments and asked me for proof of purchase. At this point I was tied of wasting hours of my time and requested the reservation to be cancelled. The agent gave me a hard time telling me I was outside the window for cancellation and that it was 10:00 P.M. in Italy. What does Italy have to do with this?
This was my first-time using Expedia and the experience was not a good one.

Reservation booked for mother as she was displaced due to hurricane Ian. Upon arrival she was denied entrance as the hotel had no power and did not want to be held liable for an 80 year old woman walking around in the dark. Now the hotel I booked via HotelsOne want's me to pay for the bill even thought they're the ones that turned her away. I would never use this service ever again.

Unfortunately you find out the integrity and values of a company when something goes wrong.
My experience of Expedia is that they're incapable of accepting their mistakes and do little to rectify them.
I have spoken to customer services 3 times each time escalating to a supposedly higher level of service.
They just don't listen, won't accept that their app/operating platform changes reservations without informing you and then they don't offer any solution other than cancellation at a cost.
The most infuriating part was I was promised that my booking would be honoured and they'd make the necessary changes by a senior operator, I asked for email confirmation so I had proof and was promised this, only to then receive an email saying my case had been reviewed at the highest level and closed.
Really difficult company to access and deal with when things go wrong.

Avoid Expedia or it will cost you time and money. They trick you via their website into making a second reservation in order to pocket the $50 cancellation fee. It is just wrong.
As well, the customer service team via call or online read from a script of standard responses, repeat themselves at nauseam, really do not care about the customer and just wait for you to end the dialogue.
Again... Avoid Expedia!

We highly recommend NOT using Expedia for booking flights in the event that something out of your control goes wrong. We've learned to buy directly through the airlines now so they can have the power to correct any issues. We will never use Expedia again. Here's why:

We booked our flights to Brazil through Expedia last year. Two months before our trip, we noticed our mistake of booking my ticket in my married name as opposed to my maiden name, which was on my passport. We called Expedia multiple times per week in the weeks leading up to our trip to resolve the matter and followed all of their directions for changing my name on the ticket. Almost every time we called, we spoke with someone who had a strong accent, we experienced many dropped calls, and then we constantly had to bring the new person up to speed. In addition, the calls that went through to completion resulted in Expedia telling us to call the airlines as the tickets did not belong to them. When we called the airlines involved, they directed us to call Expedia since they did not have access to the tickets to make the change - they said Expedia had to change the name.

Long story shorter, the day of our trip, the airline told us they had two reservations for me: one with my married name, and one with my maiden name. The airline said that neither of the tickets had been paid for, when we knew full well that the money had been debited from our account by Expedia months earlier. I had to use emergency funds to buy a new ticket at the gate.

When we returned from Brazil, we tried calling Expedia to get a refund. They said they could only give us a voucher to use for a future trip within the next year. When we tried to use the ticket to travel within the US 6 months later, Expedia said we could only use the ticket to go to Brazil. When we tried to buy my ticket for Brazil a few months after that, Expedia said they had no flights going to Brazil for which we could use the voucher.

We requested a refund, and Expedia kept us on hold and soon said they would call us back (which they never have done for us over the past year when they said they would), saying they needed to contact the airlines first. We called back three weeks later, only to be told our tickets were non-refundable.

So, do NOT use Expedia. They are very difficult to work with and they have often given us conflicting information. We are writing these complaints in hopes they will respond and return our money, and if not, we plan to sue.

I accidently set my date wrong and they would not move it and would not refund so I could pick the right date. They did however get permission from hotel to move date which cost me $300 more money and the price was not what it said on the app, it was more. Their cust service people are rude and treat you like crap.

In regards to Itinerary **************. I placed a reservation on 9/30, when I went to submit I received a "sorry there was a problem with your reservation". Therefore, I placed another one. After completing that reservation, I saw in my email that BOTH reservations were made. I prepaid this reservation in full. When I went to cancel, through the site, I was informed there would be a $100 cancellation fee. This is now 20 minutes after the reservation was made. I emailed and received the same response from the rental company on 10/1, therefore having to contact Expedia. On 10/2, I received the same response. On 10/3, I called Expedia and was told the same response and was offered 1000 points after telling them this is not acceptable due to a simple glitch. I pressed further and was told, we will try again and will inform you. Having not heard and being a week, I called today 10/10 and again was told "there is nothing we can do". I asked to speak to a manager that can properly assist me. I was told " a manager will call you after this phone call is completed". That phone call was completed at 9:45AM and it is now 11:30AM and I still have not heard anything. This is just wrong and unfair. I would not have made another reservation if not for the error message. Also, it is unfair to be penalized when someone prepays. This needs to be fixed appropriately and that is to return the $100 fee that was unnecessary to begin with.

Hard To Deal With
October 6, 2022

Be careful when using Expedia. I had a problem with double booking which I was unable to fix. I called and they said no such bookings but yet charges for the bookings where already on my credit card. I tried their Virtual Agent with even less luck. Never again Expedia for me. I paid the two cancelation fees and wrote the cost off to a lesson learned.

Expedias booking system misspelled a name so an é turned into?, which was removed altogether on the ticket, thus the name on the passport did not correspond with the passport. Expedia just flatly refused to have it corrected. Deep in their rules it is buried that they have no responsibility for misspellings, not even if they are the ones creating them! Do note that THEY OWN the booking -not you, the customer. So you cannot do a thing about it yourself. SPent 7 months agonizing over what will happen -will we get on board the planes or not? As it turned out, we did, although the airline´s computers at the in- and outbound gates protested at the mismatch. Avoid them whatever you do, there are professionals on the market, use them instead, and have a better experience. Expedia is NOT trustworthy.

Beware
October 5, 2022

BEWARE: (Please take time to read before booking through Expedia). I am a long time customer who will be completely withdrawing my business, regardless of travel points. I have booked travel with Expedia for many years. I travel for work and Expedia seemed to provide a simplified platform to book hotels, cars and flights in one go. As of the last few years, it has been increasingly difficult to resolve issues. If you travel often or for work, you will understand what I mean. When the customer is more informed and capable than the customer service, and the customer is having to resolve the problem between hotel or airline while customer service stands by in confusion, this is a sign of an incompetent and sloppy business.

Don't give up.
October 3, 2022

I cancelled a reservation weeks before I would have owed some of my deposit per the "contract language" on the Expedia web site. Upon cancellation I immediately received an Expedia email stating my full deposit would be refunded. Next day I get a partial refund from the property owners. I then asked Expedia to investigate. They then call the property owners who I am told charged me an administrative fee and they do not do 100% deposit refunds at any time. Expedia told me too bad; I need to argue with the property owners. I was put on hold for 90 minutes when I asked to talk to a supervisor and after 90 minutes I hung up. Another 30 minutes later I received a call back from a supervisor and withing approximately 30 minutes later I was told the full refund would be made. He was very pleasant. I will continue to use Expedia in the future

Expedia Steals
October 2, 2022

Expedia is refusing to refund guests who's reservation was cancelled due to Hurrican Ian. They are essentially stealing from customers during catastrophic disaster. What a awful business model they use. Hotel email letting me know about the cancelation but Expedia isn't acknowledging that email. Shameful and Disgusting!

Verry dissapointing
September 24, 2022

Very disappointed with Expedia and the customer service.
I was charged for a $300/night room and I received a $90/ night room ( really crummy room).
Expedia refused to offer any refund and did not accept that they misrepresented the room and overcharged me grossly.
Be careful before booking anything with Expedia.
I don't know how they are still in business.
They have over 90% very bad feedback.

Dishonest travel site
September 24, 2022

NEVER NEVER use this site! Went online to a Vegas casino/hotel to make reservations, got sent to "reservation" site and booked room. When getting ready to travel found they misspelled our last name and hotel could not find us, found out we were booked through Expedia as they represented themselves as booking company for casino. Wrote to Expedia customer service and was told it would cost me $65 to fix their mistake. After several Emails they closed my complaint as "solved" and banned me from writing again. Called casino and explained the problem and talked to dept that handles Expedia travel referrals and they fixed everything and told me Expedia screws customers everyday and next time call directly and verify I am talking to them and make reservation with them. CROOKS, dishonest, charging to fix their own mistakes. This is second time they screwed me, last time i booked flights to a conference and when my tickets were Emailed they were flying me in to airport and leaving an hour later, after calls and Emails, attorney and BBB complaint they refused to fix it and kept my money.CON GAME! STAY AWAY! Would give them a minus 5 rating, but this site only allows positive reviews!
