Keep in mind the number of stars I award is based the merits of the website alone. In fairness to the other reviewers that have chosen to assess the company's performance in other areas I used to own a Dell and thought it was rather low quality, at this time I have no plans to own one again.

Their site is pretty well designed. The colors go well together and the text is easy to read. There are multiple ways to view their product lines, through a menu bar system right below the mast or a set of links at the bottom of the page. A highlight are the extensive and very user forums on quite an array of subjects. They also offer several ways to get technical support, whether through their automated online system, by filling out a form and receiving an e-mail response, or via the olde timey telephone technology.

On some pages the site layout is on the verge of being too cluttered. What is a particularly egregious violation of web design best practices is the Alienware (Alienware was bought by Dell in 2006) link that unexpectedly takes you from dell.com to alienware.com. Best practices indicate you do not place a link that takes the user offsite among links that merely lead to other pages within the same website.

I ordered $1200 laptop but it never arrived at my place and every info was correct in my order. After 2 weeks they said we you have to wait for another week as your laptop is reverted from your current address location for some reason. Come on even if i place a new order it will take 3-4 days to deliver and they asking me to wait for a week for it. I said screw it and cancelled the order.

I am using a Dell laptop n5040 for half a year and I am almost happy with it. It is my first laptop, in past I always had only desktops as I didn't believe that a laptop can be as fast and user-friendly as desktops. Of course, I understand that laptops have many benefits but I am old-fashioned in that point.

First of all, I was charmed with the design of that laptop, may be this is just because I like shining things :) Later I also realized that it is a perfect device on the road and on vacation. It has never failed me when I had to do some work being out of office and the quality of graphics and sound is perfect for watching movies and videos.

Now I use it everyday to email, work online, browse the web and just having fun. It is fast, reliable and perfect-sized.

However, I was disappointed when I found that this laptop does not have bluetooth, it is very strange as now every computer has blutooth in-built. Besides it doesn't have the number pad which is quite inconvenient. One more issue it is that sometimes Enter button does not work well but it is a short-time problem.

Anyway, I think it is a great laptop for work and travel at an affordable price.

The support is the worst ever, I had to fight for a year to get a decent rep who even tried to help, Its like dell could care less about customers. In this economy with all the competition one would think Dell would be better. I guess when they are rock bottom they will change for the better, they already went from first to 5th in PC manufacturers. Keep going the way your going Dell and you'll be just another company failed in a time of giants dropping like flies.

The product is good but customer service stinks. Try calling for help and you'll get India that will refuse to give you an American agent. Then they try to sell you additional customer support. I have a $1500 Dell and cannot get America to help me so I'm going with Apple.

You can't beat Dell.com. I have had nearly every brand of computer now including Alien Ware and I still go back to Dell.com. 2 year warranty standard. If something brakes you don't have to take your computer somewhere they send a tech right out to you for two full years! I had a key brake on my laptop on a Friday night. Monday morning someone was at my door to replace my custom lighted keyboard. Don't get the shaft from a cheap company and get stuck talking to some foreigner for hours who can speak English they just can't understand it. Go with Dell and have all your problems solved.

Great website
March 1, 2012

Great website. I was able to customize and order my laptop just as I needed it. I have heard terrible things about their customer service and support, but have not used them first hand, so this point is not reflected in my rating.

The website itself is fun to play around with, so they get one star for that, but OH YE GODS, their customer service is a nightmare from the deepest pits of Hades. Getting past their automated robot answering service is a challenge unto itself, and then when you finally get an actual human being on the phone, they either don't speak English or their accent is so thick you can hardly understand what the heck they're saying in the first place. This company messed up my order in multiple ways, then kept transferring me to different departments, transferring me to departments that were currently closed, re-routing my call to Mars, etc. Took me over a month to receive an order that I was supposed to receive in one week. I'm definitely going back to Toshiba for my next computer purchase, ugh.

I've been a Dell guy since the *******, but sadly can no longer recommend them. Worldwide Tech Services, Dell's on-site service in this area, is also horrible.

The first XPS L702X made a horrible sound. Two days later on-site service came to repair. The repair guy didn't fix the problem and did not hook up the keyboard, so I was left with a product that worked less than before the repair. (I had to use a USB keyboard to use my laptop!)

The second one I received the monitor flickered. A different repair guy came and replaced the motherboard and the LCD. After which I got errors when using files (which is important when using a computer).

The next repair guy stood me up after I rearranged my day.

On the final repair, the tech put in a pre-scratch screen and my keyboard was no longer back lighted. So, in all the repairs, I never had one that fixed the problem or didn't cause a new problem. Buyer Beware!

The third computer has worked but I have spent tens of hours (probably about 40-50 hours all told) on tech support with India because Dell uses really bad hardware these days. There are many other manufacturers that are using quality parts. I would highly recommend never buying a Dell and going with a competitor.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the computer now they sent me a working one. But it has only one working USB port (google USB 3 L702X issues!) and no bluetooth (both of which were ordered and should work). But I am NOT letting these monkeys in my computer again.

I am however, not very impressed with the quality of Dell's service, support, or product. This ordeal started in August and is just wrapping up (I hope) in December with a mostly working computer.

Dell is a joke
October 22, 2011

Dell is a joke. They have low prices on computers but if you ever have an issue, good luck dealing with their joke of an outsourced customer service team. I've been hung up on, have had orders delayed (by months), and all around don't feel confident buying from them, though their prices do make it compelling.

Their customer "service" is out of India, and they are unbelievably rude and dismissive. Guess they look down on us now.

God help you if you have to deal with them.

I'v had good and terrible experiences with Dell. Every purchase is a crap shoot, although I have only had dell laptops fro the past 10 years. I like their products but shipping and delivery is way too slow. Its a great site with awesome customization ability. But customer service lacks a bit.

Dell is an okay company for computers. They are trusted and well known and they are respected in the computer industry especially for their notebooks. I like Dell notebooks because I wonder where would I be without one. Those who complain about Dell should go back to the days of those old dinosaurs desktops when there weren't any laptops and then they will see if the upgrade to a laptop/notebook was really worth it!

Let me start by saying, I own a Dell Laptop but didn't purchase this from Dell.com. I did however purchase a monitor from this company. When I ordered this it was a deal of the day item. I placed my order only to receive an email stating that my order was not confirmed. I contacted the company and explained that I had ordered this as a deal of the day. They told me that they did not know what I was talking about but could offer me this monitor at $15 more than what the deal had been. I ordered it because I needed the monitor. Later that year, I ordered a wireless xbox controller online that was a deal on their site. Again I received this silly email stating that my order was not confirmed. So again I called and was told that I could order this at a higher price. I laughed and told the (foreign) customer service person that I would not be ordering from this disreputable company again. As for my Dell laptop, I have had nothing but issues regarding overheating so much so that I have purchased an expensive high powered cooling fan so that my laptop won't fry. I will never again purchase a Dell anything and advise people to go elsewhere for their computer needs.

I have owned quite a few Dell Desktops with no issues. Last year (2010) when Dell came out with the color Inspirons, my wife decided she needed a pink one. Shipping was fairly quick and initially I liked the the computer. I was certainly pink and she liked it. It felt like a fair deal.

Fast Forward to about nine months after the purchase. One of the fans started making noise. It sounded like a lawn mower. After a while the computer would shut down itself. I called customer service numerous times only to be ran through numerous diagnostic tests. Of course with people who barely spoke english. When i complained about the lack of english i was directed to a section of the website where i could "pay extra" for someone in the United States. At first i thought it was a joke. It wasnt.

I kept trying to explain to them that unless they fix the noise, they won't fix the problem. Any idiot could see the fan was bad and the PC was overheating. Finally after two months I got them to send a tech out. It was under warranty so they certainly were not in a hurry to get a tech here. He replaced the fan. Which is what i had been telling them all along.

So now here i sit a little over a year and a half after the purchase, the pc needs a new hard drive, which im sure is thanks to the overheats. So the pc is basically a brick at this point until i get it fixed.

If it wasnt for the previous desktop which were good i would have rated this lower. I doubt i will ever buy a Dell again

My laptop died and i needed a new one. I love dell products so I went to their web site. I found coupon code on their site but none of the coupon codes would work even though I had found them on their site that very day. Every time I tried to email them they sent my email to malaysia or someplace and I could not get an answer in English. I gave up and bought a computer at bestbuy.

I've owned multiple systems by Dell:

My first was a Dual Xeon Precision 670, which I bought used from eBay in 2008.
I put in an nVidia geForce 7950 GX2, a dual GPU video card.
That computer was awesome, big, heavy, noisy, would rip through any task, and use up 680 watts constantly. Was great for games too. Aside from high power consumption, it was great. I gave it to my dad, who runs it as home server, and loves it.
Then I had (and still have but don't use much) an XPS m1330 laptop, bought in 2009, it's still running fine, except I had to change the keyboard and the AC adapter under warranty (both failed within a year), but the customer service was great, so I am not holding any grudges. Please note they do service their XPS customers through a different department - so I can't comment about regular support.

I gotta say, Dell definitely made custom computers a perfection. Their site is well designed, and is easy to navigate. Customizing systems is fun and very informative. Lots of information per page, and clicking to get to information is minimized.

Their prices are very reasonable, and their promotions give insane discounts from time to time. As always you gotta do heavy performance to value research, but overall Dell is very very solid.
