I rented a one way car from avis at BWI Airport in baltimore to New York, which was suppose to be to $39 a day + taxes and fees which was $80 which also included insurance for one day $30. I dropped off the car just as I was supposed to the next day. Tell me why when I received my receipt after dropping off I was charged $245.00 for one day for a ford focus.
I was LIVID I called customer service, only to be told that I was charged an additional day and all other crap which was FALSE. I only had the car for 1 DAY.
AVOID AVIS CAR RENTALS AT ALL COST or you will be receiving a surprised BILL. THEY ARE THEIVES AND LIARS AND THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED WITH YOUR CREDITCARD. STAY AWAY FROM THEM.
I have noticed several times that rates are better when I don't enter my wizard number. When adding my wizard # to an existing reservation, the rate actually goes up! Doesn't make any sense to me. Why would you charge your loyal customers more? Next, I called Avis to make them add my wizard # to a reservation (hoping to avoid a rate increase) and I was told there would be a rate increase, because they are unable to overwrite 'the system'. Why Avis tries to rip off their loyal customers is incomprehensible to me.
I rented a Car from Newark to Appleton Wisconsin. The amount was it was like $ 259.00 I left the Newark Liberty Airport at 5am and got to Appleton Wisconsin At 11:49 pm of the same day I was supposed to return the car at 5 am of the next day I return the Car full of gas they have a drop of box to put the keys with all the information about the vehicle. Did everything right and the ended up charging me almost $600.00 for the car after that I call and the customer service representative ttalk to me very bad not professional at all AVOS THE WORST Car rental EVER
Flew into KBUF on 6/26/20, no issues with flight from SWA.
SWA had reserved a rental at KBUF from Avis.
Went to the counter, the agent very loudly told me we don't accept CHiME debit cards, do I have another card. I didn't. He called it a prepaid card, even though I get my payroll deposited from USPS for over a year.
Maybe it's me, but I really didn't appreciate his attitude. Maybe it's my national origin, who knows.
I quickly got of line and looked up Avis' website that says "yes" they do as long as you have a return flight.
We are scheduled to depart 6/29/20 on SWA.
I am very confused, since it doesn't appear that he wanted to assist.
Valerie at Budget Car Rental gave us a fantastic deal on a Mitsubishi.
Same card, no issues.
From now on, I'm sticking with a winner, Valerie at Budget!
They don't even deserve 1 star. We were driving back because of the corona virus instead of flying we were driving home early. They wanted 700.00 to return the car and no refund to return the car early. If there was a definition of a scumbag company in these trying times it would have a picture of Avis rent a car.
Jumped on the low price and easy online rental. Drove to pick up the car and was told they didn't have it. Another vehicle available at a higher price. Wait around to see if anything like what you reserved rolls in. Customer service is a bad joke.
Absolutely horrendous experience. After almost a two hour delay in receiving the car, I received it in a very bad state. Carpets were filthy! And full of stains as you can see from the picture. After returning it, I was charges with AED 36.60 for 1 Salik CROSSING! When I ask their call centre for a breakdown, they tell me they do not have the information! AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE
We reserved online thinking this would cut down on the hassle by paying charges upfront. We get there and a rental that was supposed to be 50.99/day turned into 87.11 per day after fees and taxes. There is no drop box at this particular location. They told us they closed at 7pm during the week. We returned the car at 6:45pm no one was there and we took video. We left the car because there was no way we could return it the next day. We were charged a total of $550 for a three day rental. They also charged us an additional $80.00 a day fee because both my husband and I wanted to be authorized drivers. NO ONE TOLD US ABOUT AN ADDITIONAL FEE TO HAVE AN ADDITIONAL DRIVER. The fee is preposterous and is the same rate as renting a whole other car!
It's sickening how these CEOs sit around and think of ways to steal money. It's even more sickening they find common working people who are their employees to be their accomplices. No one told us about these additional fees. We did not know until it hit out account. They took out 335 while we signed out rental agreement so imagine the shock of being charged an additional $549 dollars. That's $900 for THREE DAYS! We will be fighting and disputing this until it gets fixed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. THE GOOD REVIEWS ARE FAKE!
I must say this is the worst service I have ever had! Two hours at Tampa airport to pick up a car that was already paid for and when we asked to talk to the manager they said she did not have time to speak to us. Really- in the two hours we were standing there she could not find time. Note to Avis- do not waste your customers time.
They charged me over 400 GBP after I returned my car. They didn't mention any damage when I returned the car. Try to contact them via email and phone. No response from them. Everytime I send an email, automatic message comes back asking me to re-submit my documents as they didn't receive them. Please read the other reviews before you rent vehicles from AVIS. They are the biggest scammers in the planet.
Read the reviews still decided to go for it.
My car smelt like poop and was clearly dirty on the inside.
The car a/c was literally spitting fire and needed repair.
Stay away.

I booked a car through Avis website and it was very easy to navigate and manage my booking. I had a couple of questions regarding my booking and the support team was very informative and helpful. I had no complains during the whole process from the beginning till the end. I will book a car from Avis again.
I searched for best rental price on Priceline and Avis offered lowest price, everything was good. When we got to Tampa we realized we needed an extra five hours of rental time. I tried to change the length of the contract, and was told they could not change it, impossible! Then I said cancel it, I was told they couldn't, go com[plain to Priceline, not their problem. We had no choice to book the car through Avis, but they said, if we wanted to extend the rental, just call a day ahead and they would take carwe of it(?). We called a day ahead and were told it would cost us 5X the daily rate to keep the car an extra 5 hours! So we reluctantly had to end our trip early to return the car ON TIME. We even called Priceline for some assistance, with typically robotic responses and helpfullness.
We WILL NOT EVER rent from AVIS again, they're customer service is sub standard and their price gouging tactics are no doubt legal, but not something I will ever fall for. If my only option were AVIS, I would walk. My advice to anyone who price shops rental cars, make absolutely certain, double check, triple check, quadrupal check, your itinerary, don't use these discount websites or neither the website nor the rental agency will help you with a problem, just bite the bullet and pay full price because companies like AVIS are trying to bust discount websites.
Avis didn't charge me for one way drop off. It was a great plus for them like comparing to Kayak they did. No complaints at all to this car rental service. Good customer service and cars worth the money you pay for them.
Beware of Avis Salt Lake City Airport Location. Our son and family rented a car that had a damaged bumper and broken antenna (no radio) after waiting 2 hours in line. Traded in the next day in Idaho Falls for a car with a hole in the floorboard. Upon return home, 3 weeks later, they received a letter from Viking Billing Service on behalf of Avis informing them they were responsible for damage to the first rental and requesting payment. Upon calling Avis they were told Viking would have to handle, but that they may also be responsible for a broken windshield on the swapped out rental. Incredible. The Avis representative was rude and unresponsive. It appears that Avis is "scamming" renters to hold them responsible for a fleet that is in poor/pitiful condition. My son has pictures and intends to dispute, but has been told everything is closed over the weekend. Simply ridiculous.
Apparently when you rent a car from Avis, somewhere in the fine print it states that if you cancell the rental, you must pay a $150 penalty, even if the total cost of the rental is much less than that; only $60 in my case. And if you simply do not show up for the rental, they keep your $60 payment. In what morality universe is this acceptable or legal. When I tried to get Avis to issue a refund, they refused and their only defense is that their policy is to make customers adhere to the fine print in the contract! CROOKS! That is what they are. CROOKS!
I head horror stories from other people when renting AVIS in Italy. I paid for Audi A3 or equivalent, got a Renault clio diesel, debatable if it is the same class nevertheless... Although the car was quite knocked about to be fair all the damage was marked on the agreement. The car was also very dirty inside and there was no washer fluid as I found out after a dusty motorway drive (Not good).
My Horror story... I gave the car back in the same condition as I got it, the agent looked around said thank you and I was on my way. A few days later my credit card showed £327.82 debit from Avis. I called them and their response was that it must be due to damage. I would have liked to have been notified of this before they just take the money! Fail that at least inform me with the damage report so that I can compare with the photos I took! Also I took waiver insurance so it is not a problem but I still need that report! Their CS tells me they have 15 business days to respond... despicable, fraudsters, they should be in court!
I have rented from Avis for two decades, have an Avis Wizard number and am an Avis First customer I recently received a bogus damage claim from Avis Viking billing for $1600 worth of damage on a vehicle that was returned with not so much as a door ding. I have received multiple phone calls as well as this letter. I called Avis after the first call from Viking and was informed that there was nothing outstanding regarding my rental. In fact, when I returned the car, I was given a $20 rebate as the radio/ audio did not work during the rental even after calling Avis for assistance. It's unfortunate but after many years of renting with Avis they have decided to pursue a fraudulent claim. They picked the wrong person to screw with.
We are frequent Avis renters, having rented in Hawaii, Phoenix AZ, Fort Lauderdale FL, Miami FL, among many of the locations. Allentown however, is horrible, with the most rude employee I've ever encountered. Most locations just verify identification, and verify my Wizard number, once verified, we are usually on our way, very simple. Allentown is anything but simple. Our most recent experience we had rented AND PRE-PAID for our car rental. However, because my wife's name and mine did not match, the employee had to "re-write" the contract. Upon typing it, she "accidentally" erased while re-writing. Then upon demanding a deposit, again, this is fully paid for, and demanding to know our return flight information (we've rented over six times within the last year from this exact location) and then stated our deposit was declined. Hard to decline a $100 deposit where there was thousands in the account. Then, at the very end, I started to pick up the keys to go get the car and bring the vehicle around to pick-up my wife, but this very rude employee grabbed the keys from my hand to give to my wife, only to have to re-hand the keys back to me. This woman is in the customer service business, however, she needs a new career, because being rude to customers is not a good behavior considering her position.
Answer: They don't answer their phone. If you want to contact the office, you have to go directly to the office and wait in line.
Answer: On June, 24,2020, I arrived at sky harbor airport rented a vehicle from Payless or Budget. Upon arrival, there was a long waiting period. The associate told me he would give me a better car for the same price as the initial rental I reserved. Also, he stated I could pay 40 dollars to receive the advantage of bringing the car back on empty if I chose. Two weeks later when I come to extend my rental I found out Avis was overcharging me and had to get the price adjusted. Later I called the 1800 number to extend my rental from July 24 to August 24th in which Avis did do. On August 24th, I called to extend my rental for two months. However, the associate said I could only extend for 1 month (August 24th -September 24th). So, I submitted for another month. The associate told me she submitted it. So I was under the understanding that my rental had been extended. On September 17th, I received a text message as well as a phone call stating that I needed to return the vehicle because it was critically past due. If not returned, the police will be notified of the care being stolen. I'm a travel Crisis nurse; I had to leave work and drive 35 mins to get to the Avis/budget location in Chandler. On the way to Avis, I called the 1800 number again. The associates were saying my submission was "improperly put in" by the associate. I asked why would I need to bring the vehicle back. Can you guys just charge my card on file for the month I initially requested? The associate said no and I had to return the car. The associate at the Chandler, AZ location was very nonchalant. I explained the situation above and he stated the people I spoke to on the 1800 number were not the boss. They cannot extend my rental. I should have called an actual location. I was explaining to him that they already extended it for me once. Thus, they can extend the rental. Also, the automated system has an option to extend your rental. So, I was not understanding why the information he was providing and the system was contraindicating. I asked him to refund my money for the charges and fees placed because this whole situation was an AVIS error not mine. He said he could not adjust any charges on my account. I would have to go back to the location, my contract originated. Then, I drove to the Sky Harbor Airport and the associates there was very calm and truly tried to explain everything. However, the manager stated that he could not adjust any charges and fees and that I would have to call corporate to get a refund. Also, he said I would have to return the car officially. Then, the corporate associates will be able to look at my account. I officially returned the vehicle. While in the Avis location at Sky Harbor, I called the 1800 number again. I explained the situation, and the associate stated my account was being investigated. I asked to speak with someone who can refund my money that day, because Avis charged my card on file right at 3,000 dollars. My usual rental charges was 1,000-1060 per month. I had the car three weeks and three days past August 24. The associate told me there was a 24-48hr period before refund would be given because they had to look at the account. I continued to ask for a refund today. He consistently said no basically. He hung up on me. I called back and spoke with someone different and went through the same process except I found out I couldn't even get another rental for Avis or Budget because I was placed on a DO-NOT-RENT LIST. I explained that I needed to return to work and needed to rent another car. He said he would suggest going to another company until this is cleared. I asked to speak with the manager and the manager said the same thing. I was beyond frustrated. I went to the other companies at the airport and all of them were sold out of cars. So, I was STUCK AT THE AIRPORT WITH NO CAR AND NO WAY TO GET BACK TO WORK. I called the 1800 number again to see if I can speak with someone above the floor supervisor, and I was told I could not. The floor supervisor stated to me that he could not give me the number. I explained my disbelief and disappointment in Avis for how poorly they had treated me. Everybody was very nonchalant. So, I had to catch an uber to my hotel and research locations to get a vehicle. I was CARLESS until Sunday. My experience with AVIS was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. AVIS FAILED ME AND DID NOT DELIVER ON THEIR PROMISES. Do to the lack of empathy or concern for its customer, I was STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT UNTIL 4PM( 6HOURS)! PLUS, MY WAGES WAS DEDUCTED BECAUSE I COULD NOT RETURN BACK TO WORK. AVIS did a poor job of correcting the mistake made on their part. This was the WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. AVIS/BUDGET IS UNTRUSTWORTHY.
