Avis is the worse car rental I have used and they lie! I rented a car in Hawaii and 2 days later they added a bogus $164.71 to my credit card. I called and they said it was it was a deposit and when I returned the car it would be refunded. They never refunded it! I have been dealing with them on the phone for several days. Their customer services stinks! They outsource the customer service so you can't understand then then they hang up on you. They added more charges to my credit card. Do NOT rent a car from Avis, go to Hertz or another rental place.

Thieves! Stay away!
December 6, 2021

AVIS Heathrow Northrop Rd was the worst rental car experience I have ever had in my life, and I have traveled a great deal. When I arrived, the person that appeared to be the manager that was actually training someone tried to DOUBLE the price of my rental by charging me for insurance that I had already declined because of the coverage I had on my GOLD AMEX card and did not need and also trying to charge me to upgrade to an automatic instead of manual. I stood my ground while he tried numerous techniques of fear and sales to attempt to charge me more money. I had reserved the car for about £850 and he was trying to increase it to £1,500. He was persistent and did I not give up. I refused to budge so he gives me the automatic car bc apparently that was all they had and he didn't even have a manual. They charge £500 extra for automatic so I feel bad for all the suckers that get taken with that. Then upon returning the car they charged me £300 for a scratch on a PLASTIC hubcap that they said was alloy when in fact it was PLASTIC. A full set to replace costs a mere £17 from Halfords the local auto store. We were also told that wheels were not an issue when we rented the car and checked for any scratches. They also charged us for 30 mins of idling which I don't even know wtf that is. AND £37 for gas when the tank was only 3/4 full when we rented the car. I am turning it over to my insurance and let them deal with these fraudulent claims. This company is corrupt and files fraudulent claims. STAY AS FAR AWAY AS YOU CAN!

I rented a car from Avis Budget Autovermietung in Berlin, Germany for two weeks in July 2021. The rental began through an online broker, Qeeq.com, and the price was quoted in Euros. At Avis, the rental agreement was also priced in Euros. We had to return the car after-hours, so I did not receive a final invoice until weeks later when we were back in the United States.

Avis Budget Autovermietung charged us in US Dollars, resulting in overcharge of about 50 USD more than if they would have charged in Euros. After calling Visa, they removed the additional charge, but later added the charge back. The customer support at Qeeq.com also tried to help without success.

The Avis rental agreement states that they will charge 4% over the Citibank conversion rate if the customer chooses to pay in a different currency, but I did not choose this. My credit card has no foreign transaction fees and my credit card statement (which Qeeq.com sent to Avis) shows that all other transactions in Germany before and after the Avis charge were made in Euros.

After trying unsuccessfully for three months to get a refund on the over-payment, all that I can do is to warn others to be careful about being sure how you will be charged for your car rental with Avis.

I rented a luxury SUV in April for pickup in August. Called 3x to check to make sure it would be there. Upon pick up no SUV after several hours of being put on hold, hung up on, being told that we had to take what they had or pay full price even though the vehicle had been reserved months ago and was not available we finally got a smaller vehicle at another location we had to drive out of our way to get it. We had to have a tire replaced since their roadside assistance does not actually provide roadside assistance. It took several hours to have this completed after we made it to our destination. The tire place informed us that 2 other tires were not safe to drive on and needed replacing. We were also given insurance we did not ask for or want. I called AVIS about these problems along the way and was told nothing could be done until the contract was paid. So I called after we completed our contract and was told the only compensation we could be given was the reimbursement for the tire (that we paid for and they owed us) and to refund the insurance (which we did not ask for). Even though we had to go all over to find a vehicle that was to small, we did not reserve, that was unsafe, and 2 sizes down from what we wanted, nothing they could do. So the end result is they have our money, gave no compensation for all of the trouble, unsafe vehicle, horrible customer service and now they have our money they do not have to make any amends for the poor customer service and all of the other crap they put us through. So they will never get our business again when I told the customer service person and supervisor that they both said oh well sorry, like either one really gave a crap. I am completely disgusted with AVIS!

August 9, 2021

Our plane was delayed in Minneapolis. We called ahead an let Avis employee know we were gonna be late. He assured us he would be there. We hustled down to get luggage, they were directly across from baggage claim. Closes at 12 pm. We were they 12:10am No one to be found…yes again we called an said we gonna be late. Next door Alamo stayed open for the guy next to us. Called corporate an that lady absolutely sucked. Crap attitude an an told us come back when they open. So force to Uber an get hotel. Totally costs unexpectedly $300. Cause someone left an didn't care about the customer…

Avis charged me $450 for smoking in a rental that I never smoked in. They said they smelled it, can't be true because it never happened. The air conditioning smelled like mildew which we reported when returning the vehicle. I have read articles that this practice has happened to other customers in the recent past and were also told too bad our staff smelled the smoke. It's a no win situation. I'd like to know id this is a new policy that staff have to adhere to so this company can catch up on for their losses during the COVID pandemic.

Waited over an hour at DFW to pick up vehicle. There were two employees working the counter in a holiday weekend. Had a prepaid reservation. Now I am being charged fuel service, even though it was returned with a full tank of gas. And Etoll which their customer service agent said I would not need.

If I could give them a negative ten I would! DO NOT RENT from Avis. I rented a van and was driving me and my four girls from Utah to Page, AZ; we got a flat tire and pulled over to change it. The car had NO SPARE, NO JACK, NO EMERGENCY TIRE FIX KIT, and NO LOCKS for the lug nuts. We were stuck in middle of desert and Avis did nothing. They finally came to tow the car about 5 hours later. We had to find own way to AZ to pick up another rent-a-car. Avis then charged me towing fee, fee for not filling up the tank, overcharged me $600, and double charged me for the rental. I have been on phone with them over 5 hours and no resolution. When I ask for a Supervisor they hang up on me and no one calls me back. I opened claim with BBB. This place should be shut down!

Person at the Avis customer service is a lair and the inexperience clerk at reception cost me extra charges of $883.12.

This is the worst car rental in my experience. I am a frequent traveler and I rent cars across the globe. This was my first experience at Avis, PIT AIRPORT. In this recent trip to home/ USA, I have rented four periods of 1 to 2 weeks each from Avis. In all these periods, I presented a prepaid voucher and my cc for a temporary deposit. All the periods went ok except one week where inexperienced clerk at reception checked me in. She kept seekng help from others clerks using the voucher and at the end she said everything is ok now. Later I found that Avis had charged me $883.12 extra above the prepaid voucher that supposed to cover all rental one week economy car period. Customer service very difficult to get with wait over one hour. Then, i had explained everything and the answer iwas, Avis will process you the refund of $883.12 within 7 10 days. I made a second call after two weeks asking about the refund to find there is no record for refund from the first call and no refund will be issued. The person at the customer service was a lair and the inexperience clerk at reception cost me extra charges of $883.12. Never expected this from Avis

I picked up a car at the Nashville, TN airport on April 28th, 2021. As I drove out of the lot, I noticed that the oil light was on. It was an hour before they opened so I wasn't able to change the car. On the morning of April 30th, we were to drive to Memphis to visit Graceland and the Civil Rights Museum. Upon checkout at the hotel, the valet informed us that the tire was flat and that the spare donut tire was not in driving condition. I called Avis and waited on hold for over 35 mins until someone even answered! What if I had been stuck somewhere alone? After someone finally answered, they told me that it would take an additional 30-60 mins for someone to arrive to repair the tire. After waiting for 30 mins, I called AAA who came within 15 mins. I then had to drive back to the airport to exchange the car. Because of this issue, it set us back 3 hours and my companions and I missed the opportunity to visit Graceland in Memphis. I would like to be reimbursed for the tickets. What happened to the days of bringing another vehicle out, exchanging it for the vehicle with issues, and having the Avis rep wait for roadside assistance? In addition to issues with the tire and the oil light, the SiriusXM never kicked in - even after exchanging vehicles at the Nashville airport on April 30! The icing on the cake was
When I received an invoice for $220 to pay for the tire repair!
We had the same issue with SiriusXM never kicking in when we rented a car from Avis on March 13 in Woodland Hills, CA The car that was given to us had 28,000 miles on it, was dented and scratched all over as well as rattling like crazy. Again, we had to drive to LAX to make the exchange, taking us out of our way. Never again with Avis! I will also post this on different review sites.

Go somewhere else
May 19, 2021

I am a nurse who has worked through the entire pandemic and need to rent a car to get mine fixed. I made a reservation for a date and my mechanic called me a little over the 24 hrs cancellation policy time and said the parts were delayed, again. I called Avis to try to cacel or scudule the rental. They charged me 3 times the price of the rental to cancel the reservation as i couldn't use it that day. I spend and hour on the phone trying to reschedule and to get rude no's. Do yourself a favor go anywhere else for your rental.

I tried to modify my reservation on the app and the app stated there would be no cars available for the day of pickup mind you I would have one of the vehicles that they're saying is "sold out". So I called customer service to try to push my pick-up date out by one day. Upon calling they told me they had no more cars available and I told them I would have one of the cars that would be available. The customer service rep basically told me there was NOTHING he could do except cancel and ENSURED me I would get my full refund.
So we cancel. I get an email stating I would get the refund -$150 to cancel. So I call back and inquire. I asked again is there NOTHING you could do? He said he could've bypassed the system but I already canceled. I asked why didn't you say anything before? He had no answer for me. So now I'm stuck without a vehicle and possibly getting half of what I paid for it. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and ultimately a terrible system. Please fix your system.

I rent from Avis on a regular basis. This has been the worst experience ever. I dont know how they stay in business. They have the worst customer service. The service at each location is bad too. I had a reservation to pick up a rental at the Atlanta Airport. I have rented from here several times in the past. Each time I rent the experience seems to get worst and worst. I tried to select my rental and nothing showed available. I had to go to the counter and they would not allow me to pick up because I did not have a flight. Why does having a flight make a difference. This just the beginning. LEAVE AVIS ALONE. ENTERPRISE ONLY FROM NOW ON. This was the worst experience ever.

We rented an SUV for a week to drive from Vegas up to Zion National Park. After a week of hiking the vehicle had some dirt in it - we got out what we could without having a vacuum (no floor mats in place). Upon returning home we received a letter from them saying we were being charged $450 for a "cleaning fee" for "excess dirt". Mind you, this is more than we paid to rent the vehicle for the entire week! We called to dispute it (twice) to no avail. We will NEVER be renting from them again and advise that no one else does the same. We were told we had agreed to return the vehicle in the condition we received it. It literally had 5 miles on the odometer - but why no floor mats? That would've helped the cause immensely. Whatever. Lesson learned I guess. BEWARE!

Customer service
April 5, 2021

Rented a SUV over holidays and there was a small stellate window chip hidden under snow in left corner of windshield. Tried to notify Avis by phone about 30 minutes after pickup and the branch was closed. Drove rental for family vacation and returned it unchanged. Three weeks later received a bill for $532 for window repair whic the deducted from my credit card on file. Multiple contacts with Avis to explain that chip was already present were fruitless as response alway was that I should have bought their insurance and the charges stands. Eventually filed case with BBB and mutually agreed that I would pay $139(the actual repair) and the would refund the nearly $400 back to my card. I agreed to this not because I caused the damage but rather I didn't try again to notify them of the damage after I picked up vehicle. A month later, Avis has not refunded my money and they will not answe my emails. Small claims may be next. Would avoid this company as the customer does not come first.
