Rented a car drove 2 hours to Wilkes-Barre, PA and got a flat tire. I looked for a spare but it had been removed. This should be checked by AVIS prior to rentals as a safety precaution. At 7:30pm is when the flat occurred, it took 7 calls to get through a busy tone with AVIS's 1800 number but once I got through they sent a ticket from AVIS to roadside service for a 2-way tow. The vehicle to replace mine was in Newark, NJ (196 miles away). The 2-way tow would take 4 to 6 hours amd would start at 8:30pm (so expected at 12:30 - 2:30am). At 10pm I called Roadside to get a quick update (on hold for 40 minutes) and they answered and let me know they had not started on my ticket. It would now be 5 to 7 hours from 10:45pm. I had a flight the next morning 2 hours away so this was no longer going to work. Note I was in an abandoned parking lot with moderate to high crime. I asked if we could change the tow from 2 way to a 1 way tow and take a Lyft to Philadelphia to make my flight. The AVIS representative (Corey) told me to take my keys with me so the car doesn't get stolen she stated that I could drop them off at any AVIS in the 48 states. I then took a ride to Philadelphia for $200. I arrived at the hotel at 2am and I had a text stating that a tow truck would be arriving around 300 minutes (5 hours...). I would have missed my flight. The next day I landed in Atlanta (lay over on my way to Albuquerque) and I got a call from the towing company saying they were at the car but needed the keys, I told them that that wasn't going to happen and they hung up. I called AVIS on Friday (3 days after the flat tire) and asked if the car was picked up and they said no. I asked to talk to a manager and they said they would call me in 48 hours... (AVIS is nothing but unhelpful and slow). They did not call me at all so I called them the following Friday and got a hold of a manager (Jack... by the way just as useless) and he said I can't do anything for you until the contract is closed... which will take 3 to 5 days. I will have to call next Friday to follow up and AVIS refuses to call me back after the contract is closed but is now my responsibility to keep calling till it gets closed.
I arrived to the airport and was told there is a 90 minute wait because of an issue at the lot. I was not the only person that was told this. The 90 minutes ended up being 2 hours sitting on the airport instead of starting our vacation we had been awaiting. We were told at that time, we would be issued a $50 refund at the time of return. Once we returned it, we were told it would show up on the card we submitted. I contacted customer service because it didn't happen. I was told there is no such policy to give a refund and all they offer is a voucher. If we returned the car 2 hours late, we would've been charged right away. I guess our time is not as valuable as theirs. Will not be using them in the future.
The almost useless company for rental car. Customers please! Don't waste your time to rental a car from this company.
I will say the car was great but the bill made no since. I had to extend my car rental time which gave them more money but yet they charged me to extend rental. I had extended for 5 days but went in to just take it for one more day which the charged me half of what I was paying for 5. They charged me for extra items that they do not explain. What is licenses recoup, Extension fee and energy recovery fee? The car was full of gas. If im paying them to use there car for more days I cant believe they would charge me to add extended days fee. They never let me know any of these extra charges! I WILL NEVER USE THESE GUYS AGAIN!
Absolutely worst experience I have ever had. I wish I would have checked these reviews before hand. I never would have rented with them.
First off all they gave us a car and said it was full of gas and would need to be returned full of gas. The tank was half full so I took a picture with the date and time to show them when I got back but it turns out that was the least of my worries. An hour or so into my drive the car broke down on the highway. When I called them they told me to call roadside assistance. You would think they would call roadside assistance considering what they put me through. Fast forward two weeks and I have a $307 withdrawal charge from Avis and a $57 add a driver charge. I have been on the phone with the Wichita manager all day today and am now on the phone with customer service saying they do not see these charges.
Bottom line do not rent from Avis. They will screw you one way or another and they are not worried about helping you even if it is their screw up in the first place. All of these reviews prove that.
Avis literally stole my money. Six months after my rental, they charge my card for tail light damage. The lens was broken when I picked up the car, which was understood by the representatives when I dropped the car off. I wrote them to get the money credited back, including photos (time stamped at the time of the rental pickup) of their own location with their own representative pointing at the damage. Now after three iterations, they have determined that I am liable for the charges. So time-stamped photo evidence is not enough to stop them from stealing my money. On another note, how can they even do this? They charged me randomly six (6) months after returning the car. Having accepted the car back with no charges. My recommendation: don't ever use Avis Budget.
SERVICE! The quality of your customer service depends on your customer service team having great communication with your client base. Your Company has to be built on a foundation of great customer service to ensure agents are performing at their highest standard. Delivering a basic training session at the start of their employment and expecting them to give outstanding service over subsequent months and years could end up costing you. Ok so on Jan 16 -Feb 6 I rented a car from your Company. (FIRST TIME USING SERVICE) So when I called to do the rental it was for one week first and when I started to the Rep I'm new to using the service; the payment policy should have been told to me. So this would have given me the choice of using the service because I would have declined from the start so I understand there is a contract to read once you come in. But my question is what if a customer comes in and can't read? So one of your reps says that's their problem, not Avis and if that's the case they should say that. But working with the state and in customer service for over 23 years given a customer policy is something you always do. So by me getting a receipt and I don't have a total due That leads me to think paid every week I had your car; POLICY IS A BIG PART TO A COMPANY... my first time using your company and the last this was the worst experience I ever had. A little bit about myself I follow the order and I'm always prepared when it comes to handling my Bussiness so when I went to pay my mortgage yesterday and it was declined because 651.88 was taking out at one time from your company so image the shock and embarrassment I felt. If you don't follow order what do you follow? Out of 23 years of having a bank account I never had an issue with payments. Enterprise will always outweigh Avis because they go overpayment policy with each customer; you may wonder why I just didn't go with them. Didn't know my car was going to break down they were booked!; I will complain every day until something change I hate poor customer service when you have reps to literally talk to the Customer like they are dumb is sicking! AVIS NEEDS TO RETRAIN EACH EMPLOYEE!
Hi - I had an Avis car in Germany for three weeks over Christmas - paid almost Eur 700 and left it with some dirt from boots and a dog in the foot area. Avis charged me an extra Eur 130 for cleaning this - without explanation or anything, and simply took the money off my account. It has taken me 4 weeks to get some kind of explanation and no one seems in charge. The service at the counter was good, but the follow up service and unannounced charges are really bad. I would have used Avis again - but not with this experience. I'll go back to Europcar who I normally use, and who would not charge for a bit of washable dirt.
I rented from AVIS last weekend and received a car with mechanical issues, safety issues and then when I called for assistance, I was charged additional fees for the roadside assistance. I had paid for an ungraded convertible in Florida, the cars rear brake lights never went out even when just idling in park making it a safety concern, the engine had to be feathered to continue to maintain any speed, the cruise control did not work because of this, and then I needed a jump start as the constant brake lights being on all night killed the battery and I was charged for them to send someone out to jump start the car... Don't ever use them as the only response I got was an apology saying "We are sorry you had a bad experience". No offer to refund anything or make things right with an added $220 charge for the jump start...
I made an online reservation for a car rental as part of my trip over the holidays. I paid for the rental in full at the time of my reservation. However, when I tried to pick up my car rental, the Avis customer service representative would not let me rent the car, though I had proof of my reservation. She claimed that Avis wouldn't allow me to use a debit card though I provided her with a debit card that can be run as credit. Furthermore, Avis' own rental terms and conditions state that a debit card may be used. After my trip, I spent weeks getting the run-around from Avis customer service as I tried to get a refund. I still have not received a refund for this service that I already paid for. My entire experience with this company was less than professional.
Avis is baton rouge... siegan lane location absolutely terrible... had a reservation for 3 months they call me 20 kin before I pick and say the the Tahoe class I reserved not available they can put me in a corolla? Da fuk... absolutely garbage
Rented a truck in San Jose from Avis for work purposes When I rented the truck I did not no how long I would need it the gal Jennifer that helped me said if I was to return it early I would be credited I just dropped car off 11 days early and the would not refund me anything They r a bunch of crooks I tried to take it back to finish my time because I paid for it and they would not let me. This is very disappointing especially during covid times when things are tight I will never rent from this company again I have been a frequent flyer for year they are a huge franchise with other rental name like budget I will also do my best to have all my friends family and business associates take there business elsewhere in the future if u have a choice Hertz will treat you better then this business will

Avis is the worst car rental company around, adding bogus and dishonest fees. Stay away and use an honest more reputable company like Enterprise.
I rented a car on Nov 20 and returned it on Nov 22. At the time I returned it there was no mention of any issues with the condition of the car. 2 weeks later they notified me that they took the liberty to charge my credit card $479 extra for a cleaning fee? What? The car was returned in the same condition as when picked up! Most troubling is that the inspection report they provided is dated 2 days after the return on Nov 24. Is this how they are trying to force Covid relief for themselves?
I rented a car with Avis on November at Richmond Virginia. The pick up location was at the Airport and upon pick up, I asked specifically if I could return the car keys by dropbox since my return was on a Sunday as most rental companies so on weekends. The reps confirmed that there will be drop box and I will not be charged anything extra should i bring the car later than the return time as long as I return by dropbox the same day. On the day of return, I arrived at 6:30pm and my expected return was 2pm. It did not matter to me since I was already told i would not be charged extra. I met the Avis reps at the kiosk who received the keys and documentation. To my surprise, i was charged an extra full day. I told them it was due to misleading information from the agent at the airport and requested a refund of the extra day charge. I was informed that the best they could do was a 29% refund which they did. I am still so disappointed with my rental experience. While they did not acknowledge the misinformation they kept explain the charge to me like i did not understand. Please do not believe what the sales reps tell you. I felt cheated at the end of my experience.
Went to the Avis Preferred line at Ft Lauderdale Airport. I was summoned to the counter by a black employee. All of a sudden a rude black man came up and took over our conversation and the black employee chose to wait on him first. Racist move. Needless to say-I took my business elsewhere. I have had a bad experience each time. First time, car battery was dead and the replacement smelled like stale smoke. Next time, the key fob didn't work and I had to spend my time getting a different car. Lines are always long. This third experience was the last. I went right downstairs to Alamo and was on my way in minutes. I will never use Avis again.
This is by far the shadiest rental car I $#*!ing dealt with, They charged me for a reservation that never took place because they don't accept debit cards, but they still take your money, 2 years later and still haven't received a penny, They said they will pay me almost a year ago, discussing pigs, they don't answer their phones or emails, I hope you $#*!ing go bankrupt you thieves, low life mother$#*!ers.
I have had a horrible experience with Avis for Uber. Their accounting is terrible. The get your debit card and double charge which can lead to overdrafts on your bank account. They don't want to refund your money and fees for their mistake, they just want to give you a rental credit. No one can explain anything obviously they don't know why themselves. Don't have a flat tire in the middle of the night. I wish I could use an emoji for that. 1 star is a stretch.
I booked my rental pickup truck Travelocity for one day, in order to take my daughter to a drive inn movie for Halloween. When I purchased the one day through Travelocity with insurance my total was $74.56. I arrived to the rental car place at 10:30am on October 31st and the customer service from the get go was awful. I was charged $166.55 for my pickup truck initially. The pick up truck had not been cleaned. I had an appointment to get to by 1pm and could not go back to exchange the truck. I rented the truck for 1 day, no damage was done to the vehicle, and gas was full. On November 9th I was billed $1101. 65 for the one day I rented the pickup truck. I used a debit card to rent the truck and called avis to get those corrected. Avis did not refund me and I called my bank the stop the payment. The Next day Avis charged me $1270. 65. I called Avis again for a refund and they informed me THEY made a mistake and did not check the truck in when I returned it on November 1st and charged me $1270. 65. I was told upper management had to review the refund before I could get any money back while it was THEIR fault. I was told I would receive a call from the Manager and have yet to receive any call from Avis. I still have not received a refund for their mistake and I am now getting overdraft fees exceeding my initial truck rental. I was told there was nothing they can do about it even though this is their fault and have my money. I have still not been contacted not refunded. Do NOT rent a car from Avis!
3 employees told me different directions to reconcile my husband (a preferred member) renting the car for me but due to him not being with me I could not have it. I understood until I followed the directions given to change it to my name. They still would not give me the car! I was charged more for a lesser class car because this prepaid rental car was "magically rented" while it was being changed over in my name. I regret every minute of that experience. Dishonest, horrible customer service and knowledge of policy.
Answer: They don't answer their phone. If you want to contact the office, you have to go directly to the office and wait in line.
Answer: On June, 24,2020, I arrived at sky harbor airport rented a vehicle from Payless or Budget. Upon arrival, there was a long waiting period. The associate told me he would give me a better car for the same price as the initial rental I reserved. Also, he stated I could pay 40 dollars to receive the advantage of bringing the car back on empty if I chose. Two weeks later when I come to extend my rental I found out Avis was overcharging me and had to get the price adjusted. Later I called the 1800 number to extend my rental from July 24 to August 24th in which Avis did do. On August 24th, I called to extend my rental for two months. However, the associate said I could only extend for 1 month (August 24th -September 24th). So, I submitted for another month. The associate told me she submitted it. So I was under the understanding that my rental had been extended. On September 17th, I received a text message as well as a phone call stating that I needed to return the vehicle because it was critically past due. If not returned, the police will be notified of the care being stolen. I'm a travel Crisis nurse; I had to leave work and drive 35 mins to get to the Avis/budget location in Chandler. On the way to Avis, I called the 1800 number again. The associates were saying my submission was "improperly put in" by the associate. I asked why would I need to bring the vehicle back. Can you guys just charge my card on file for the month I initially requested? The associate said no and I had to return the car. The associate at the Chandler, AZ location was very nonchalant. I explained the situation above and he stated the people I spoke to on the 1800 number were not the boss. They cannot extend my rental. I should have called an actual location. I was explaining to him that they already extended it for me once. Thus, they can extend the rental. Also, the automated system has an option to extend your rental. So, I was not understanding why the information he was providing and the system was contraindicating. I asked him to refund my money for the charges and fees placed because this whole situation was an AVIS error not mine. He said he could not adjust any charges on my account. I would have to go back to the location, my contract originated. Then, I drove to the Sky Harbor Airport and the associates there was very calm and truly tried to explain everything. However, the manager stated that he could not adjust any charges and fees and that I would have to call corporate to get a refund. Also, he said I would have to return the car officially. Then, the corporate associates will be able to look at my account. I officially returned the vehicle. While in the Avis location at Sky Harbor, I called the 1800 number again. I explained the situation, and the associate stated my account was being investigated. I asked to speak with someone who can refund my money that day, because Avis charged my card on file right at 3,000 dollars. My usual rental charges was 1,000-1060 per month. I had the car three weeks and three days past August 24. The associate told me there was a 24-48hr period before refund would be given because they had to look at the account. I continued to ask for a refund today. He consistently said no basically. He hung up on me. I called back and spoke with someone different and went through the same process except I found out I couldn't even get another rental for Avis or Budget because I was placed on a DO-NOT-RENT LIST. I explained that I needed to return to work and needed to rent another car. He said he would suggest going to another company until this is cleared. I asked to speak with the manager and the manager said the same thing. I was beyond frustrated. I went to the other companies at the airport and all of them were sold out of cars. So, I was STUCK AT THE AIRPORT WITH NO CAR AND NO WAY TO GET BACK TO WORK. I called the 1800 number again to see if I can speak with someone above the floor supervisor, and I was told I could not. The floor supervisor stated to me that he could not give me the number. I explained my disbelief and disappointment in Avis for how poorly they had treated me. Everybody was very nonchalant. So, I had to catch an uber to my hotel and research locations to get a vehicle. I was CARLESS until Sunday. My experience with AVIS was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. AVIS FAILED ME AND DID NOT DELIVER ON THEIR PROMISES. Do to the lack of empathy or concern for its customer, I was STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT UNTIL 4PM( 6HOURS)! PLUS, MY WAGES WAS DEDUCTED BECAUSE I COULD NOT RETURN BACK TO WORK. AVIS did a poor job of correcting the mistake made on their part. This was the WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. AVIS/BUDGET IS UNTRUSTWORTHY.
