I booked a rental car at our about noon due to a planned flight due to death in the family. I called to cancel about 6pm. The car was too be picked up at 8am the following morning. I called to cancel and was told it's 150. Fee when the rental was only 110.00. I explained I don't have 24 hrs advance to cancel and have no choice but to cancel due to availability of flights. The agent hung up on me. I called back and the automated agent stated my reservation number had been canceled. Yet my card is showing the charge. No human who's dealt with immediate death in the family would treat a customer that way
The location is horribly understaffed causing unacceptable waits to get a rental. Given this experience I will never rent from this poorly run company again. I feel sorry for the poor attendants who have to deal with irate customers who have been waiting on line for at least an hour.
I would have given Avis 0 stars but had to put 1 star.
They confirmed my van booking only to call me a day later to say they couldn't provide the van that had been confirmed. They did not have a solution to the problem and became very abusive (personally) and extremely rude when i asked for an explanation.
What made things worse was that i was able to book a van through Budget at the same location (same company, don't be fooled by their sneaky tactics) but when i called to make sure the van was available i was met with, 'We aren't going to give you a van'. So i'm still unsure if they actually had a van or not to hire out. Either way i am happy not to be dealing with these disgusting people again and i hope they wake up to their behavour.
Call Melbourne Van Rental 0450 747 874. You will actually get what is confirmed, you aren't abused for their errors and made to feel less than human all because they couldn't own their mistake.
This was the worse customer service I have ever experience, it's been 29 days and they still have not refunded me my money $367.00. On 08/27/22 their employee told me to cancel my reservation so he can fix it, he was not able fix my reservation. Avis had already took the money off my credit card and all he can say is "I can't help you, call customer service. I had to caught Ubers to work and school, I'm a single mother and I had to pay an additional $400 for that week on Ubers. Here it is 09/25/22 and I'm still waiting on my refunded, this have also impacted my credit score. This was the worsted rental car experience ever.
I reserved a car (economy) online to pick up at@ San Francisco Airport last week. Senior citizen with my AARP card. Original total was $317, had my own insurance and would fill up the tank before returning. The service agent says my original car was not available but I can get another at same price. Give him my info. Get my bill 2 days later...$702!. The old bait and switch with fees of over $400. Told me too bad since I ASKED for upgrade. Stay away from them. Bunch of crooks
I rented a vehicle to take my daughter to college. I was going to put the charges on my credit card, but was unaware of the $200 deposit on top of the charges. I couldn't cover it on my credit card, so I had no choice but to put it on my debit card. I returned the vehicle on time, with a full tank and perfectly clean. They told me it would take 5-10 days for my $200 to be returned. It's been nearly a month now and I still haven't received my deposit. Every time I call the rental location I get transferred to some person outside of the country who tells me I have to talk to my bank. It's not a bank issue. Banks don't keep you from accessing your money. Only Avis does that.
On 3/24/22 I reserved a car from Avis for 9/5/22-9/9/22. September 4th I received a text message that my reservation was confirmed. When I went to pick up my rental I was told that there was my car was not available and they couldn't even give me a time when it would be. What the! Are you kidding me! I made this reservation 6 months ago and they don't have a car for me. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS!
I rent a car from Avis Location at 4430 E. Independence Blvd. WOW! No Customer service the phone numbers they give and Emails they give are fake and don't exist at all. I am going to Report to the State Attorneys Office and Better Business Bureau.
My wife and I traveled to Newburgh, New York to attend a ceremony. We have taken the trip many times before over the last four years, I normally rent from Avis because of the wonderful customer service that was given by the desk clerk. My wife approached the counter and noticed that my favorite clerk was busy helping another customer. I was standing behind my wife when another clerk appeared from the back office. He walked over to the Hertz counter and stated, "May I help you?" I walked over and asked for the clerk's name who has always been so kind. He stated, "Why do you want to know her name?" I then said "Man can I please have her name?" He then asked, "For What?" I then stated, "I just want her name." He then stated, "Why are you talking to me like that?" I was taken aback because I never had this encounter with Avis before. I asked one more time, just to see if he was pulling a prank. He then stated, "I tell you what go over and wait in her line and ask her for her name!" I went and stood in her line and my wife stepped out of line and approached another clerk. I walked behind my wife and asked for the manager. The clerk called the manager who approached the counter. I asked the manager for the lady's name and she said Tanesha. I asked the manager for her name and she said Lynn. I asked the clerk standing in front of me for his name and he said Jose. I than asked the manager for the rude clerk that apparently was having a bad day and she said Basel. With Stewart airport being small in size and there's not that many workers, you will run into the same clerks from time to time. The way Basel acted on this day, I will never spend my money with Avis never again. Yes, that one experience will have me to select another rental company.
My recent Avis rental experience definitely ranks up there as one of the worst travel experiences I've ever had. Paid for a "premium" car, but the Toyota Avalon they gave me smelled like an ash tray, and it had this nasty lime-scented air freshener pinned to one of the vents. Also, driver's center vent was not operational. A few days into the rental the right rear tire blew. I called Avis roadside assistance and explained the situation…and they were so rude and unhelpful. Wouldn't even tell me if I would get assistance that day…or if I'd have to sit in the car all night long in the 110+ degree heat until they could dispatch someone. 3+ hours later, roadside assistance finally showed up, however I felt completely unsafe driving the "premium" car with a bubble spare in the 110+ degree heat…so I drove 30 minutes back to the airport and exchanged it for another car. They wanted to give me another Toyota Avalon, but I refused…so they gave me a high mileage, unimpressive small Lincoln SUV…which to me was pretty beat for a "premium" rental car. This "premium" car was quite an adventure to drive…was real shaky, particularly on the highway…seemed clear to me that something was wrong with the steering/suspension/engine. Then in the 110+ degree heat the a/c started blowing steaming hot air; and I had to exit the car because it was simply intolerable. Fast forward the clock several weeks…just got a $220 charge on my credit card from Avis for the flat tire roadside assistance. Horrible experience all the way around. Will never rent from Avis again.
We have rented a car (VW T-Roc) at Roma Termini station from 1 - 3. July where we clearly stated several times that we would like to drop it off at the Airport since we have a flight soon after.
The agreed price was is 582 EUR with VAT, which we have in the documentation.
After we returned the car to the airport we got in a terrible situation.
Avis staff wanted to charge us 903 EUR, and they said they can't do anything since we need to pay additional fees to drop off the car at the airport. (but we agreed on Airport drop-off for 582 EUR total price + fuel).
They didn't cooperate or try to help us.
Everything is charged immediately via our pre-authorized credit card, without even asking what we think or do we agree with this.
For more than 55 days we are trying to reach them, we send 30+ emails, and messages and we have received 0 responses.
They are scamming customers and stealing money and nobody can stop them
They claim to be completely smoke free, but the pickup I rented smelled like cigar smoke for the 4 days that I had it.
Then I filled the gas tank right outside airport entrance, but still got a $15.99 fuel charge added to my invoice which caused all the other taxes and surcharges to increase for a total additional charge of $20.37.
I called customer service and they promptly removed the additional charges, but had I not of caught it.
I've already dumped Hertz for charging me a $100 cancellation fee, now add hertz to the no go zone.
SIXTH Car Rental has been the best value and experience I've had so far.
We rented a car for our one-month, family road trip from Florida to Illinois. On day two, we noticed a problem with the brakes on the car. When we contacted Avis, they told us to contact the nearest agency for a remplacement car. They sent me on a wild goose chase from Florida to Chicago. After contacting them several times, calling almost every agency on our route from Orlando to Chicago, we never found an agency that would remplace our car. Imagine driving over 1000 miles with small children in a car with faulty brakes! Avis is irresponsible and clearly does not care about its customers safety or the safety of its customers families. In addition, they rented us a GPS tablet at $20 per day and the tablet did not work correctly. Of course, we have received no reimbursement or even an apology for the faulty vehicle or the useless tablet. We will never rent from Avis in the future and will never recommend Avis. Indeed, we have contacted the VISA travel agent to report the lack of service and lack of responsibility of Avis.
AUG-2022: Our Avis Rental Vehicle required service to continue using it, half-way through our trip. Upon calling Avis to discuss, they recommended resolving the issue on my own, since their Roadside Assistance is unreliable. Cost me $50 at Firestone to have Avis Rental Vehicle serviced. I Returned the vehicle at the correct time on the contracted Return Date, but Avis never provided a Return Receipt, nor offered to reimburse for the repair after I apprised a Manager of the fact when I returned it. Days later, they claimed that I hadn't returned the vehicle, hitting my CC on file with an additional $400 charge as a penalty. Upon challenging this additional charge, they insisted that I provide evidentiary to prove that I in fact returned the vehicle on the contracted date [which I did]. HORRIBLE Customer Service, HORRIBLE Management, UNETHICAL Business Practices. AVOID!
Went thru 3 rental cars due to them not servicing their cars. 1 engine light came on. The second car was filthy, soda spilled everywhere. Had it 1 day and the key fob error came on and had to go back and change cars. Asked for credit due to me having to spend over 6 hours exchanging cars. Was told they would credit 1 day. What s frigging joke! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY
It was the only rental company with a car available the dates I needed. They charged me $700 to drop the car off at a different location. Avis is a national rental company with counters all over the country, so why such an inflated fee? The woman at the counter didn't have an answer to why they charge this and the 2 emails I've received from Avis haven't either. Apparently, no one has the answer. I'm guessing because the answer is that they can just add bogus fees... because they can.
I prepaid for a Camry-sedan or like reservation and when I arrived, they offered me a gas guzzling pick up truck. There were no other options. If you have my money practically guaranteed with no risk to you Avis, why would you overbook a pre-paid rental and ruin my vacation and 20th anniversary with my wife? Worse yet, your service agent was indifferent to my circumstances and even required me to call Avis customer service via 800# to request a refund. Seriously?
I am tired of corporate excuses for failing to manage your business at your customers expense.

Your prepaid reservation has been canceled. The prepaid rental amount (minus $0.00) will be refunded to your credit card within 3-10 business days.
Please consider Avis for any future rental car needs.
Very unhappy, have been very unsatisfied as no one replies to our msg or call or emails. They have charged 1400 euros which was refundable and now they don't reply to us. They have been very unprofessional through out. Did not expect this from them. This is my case no *******
Be careful. Although they claim to have flexible booking if you do cancel they will not refund you unless you call once the refund has not arrived. Once you call it is then a further 10-15 business days before they will give you your money I am told. There is 'nothing' they can do to help you get your money quicker. Given I assumed they would refund automatically and so didnt think to call (and was put off by the awful wait time when you do call) I am now looking at 30 days + before they will give me my £1030 booking refund which seems so bad and impacts my spending money for the holiday I was using the car for! Honestly call them as soon as you cancel to request the refund and avoid awful wait.
Rented the car the lady didn't take me to the car had to find out which car by car key alarm she didn't do walk around of the car so I want be charged for some I didn't do and she was also rude on top of upon returning the car gave the the run around about my deposit and still haven't received it yet very disqualified and also along with customer service I would never rent a car from them again.
Answer: They don't answer their phone. If you want to contact the office, you have to go directly to the office and wait in line.
Answer: On June, 24,2020, I arrived at sky harbor airport rented a vehicle from Payless or Budget. Upon arrival, there was a long waiting period. The associate told me he would give me a better car for the same price as the initial rental I reserved. Also, he stated I could pay 40 dollars to receive the advantage of bringing the car back on empty if I chose. Two weeks later when I come to extend my rental I found out Avis was overcharging me and had to get the price adjusted. Later I called the 1800 number to extend my rental from July 24 to August 24th in which Avis did do. On August 24th, I called to extend my rental for two months. However, the associate said I could only extend for 1 month (August 24th -September 24th). So, I submitted for another month. The associate told me she submitted it. So I was under the understanding that my rental had been extended. On September 17th, I received a text message as well as a phone call stating that I needed to return the vehicle because it was critically past due. If not returned, the police will be notified of the care being stolen. I'm a travel Crisis nurse; I had to leave work and drive 35 mins to get to the Avis/budget location in Chandler. On the way to Avis, I called the 1800 number again. The associates were saying my submission was "improperly put in" by the associate. I asked why would I need to bring the vehicle back. Can you guys just charge my card on file for the month I initially requested? The associate said no and I had to return the car. The associate at the Chandler, AZ location was very nonchalant. I explained the situation above and he stated the people I spoke to on the 1800 number were not the boss. They cannot extend my rental. I should have called an actual location. I was explaining to him that they already extended it for me once. Thus, they can extend the rental. Also, the automated system has an option to extend your rental. So, I was not understanding why the information he was providing and the system was contraindicating. I asked him to refund my money for the charges and fees placed because this whole situation was an AVIS error not mine. He said he could not adjust any charges on my account. I would have to go back to the location, my contract originated. Then, I drove to the Sky Harbor Airport and the associates there was very calm and truly tried to explain everything. However, the manager stated that he could not adjust any charges and fees and that I would have to call corporate to get a refund. Also, he said I would have to return the car officially. Then, the corporate associates will be able to look at my account. I officially returned the vehicle. While in the Avis location at Sky Harbor, I called the 1800 number again. I explained the situation, and the associate stated my account was being investigated. I asked to speak with someone who can refund my money that day, because Avis charged my card on file right at 3,000 dollars. My usual rental charges was 1,000-1060 per month. I had the car three weeks and three days past August 24. The associate told me there was a 24-48hr period before refund would be given because they had to look at the account. I continued to ask for a refund today. He consistently said no basically. He hung up on me. I called back and spoke with someone different and went through the same process except I found out I couldn't even get another rental for Avis or Budget because I was placed on a DO-NOT-RENT LIST. I explained that I needed to return to work and needed to rent another car. He said he would suggest going to another company until this is cleared. I asked to speak with the manager and the manager said the same thing. I was beyond frustrated. I went to the other companies at the airport and all of them were sold out of cars. So, I was STUCK AT THE AIRPORT WITH NO CAR AND NO WAY TO GET BACK TO WORK. I called the 1800 number again to see if I can speak with someone above the floor supervisor, and I was told I could not. The floor supervisor stated to me that he could not give me the number. I explained my disbelief and disappointment in Avis for how poorly they had treated me. Everybody was very nonchalant. So, I had to catch an uber to my hotel and research locations to get a vehicle. I was CARLESS until Sunday. My experience with AVIS was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. AVIS FAILED ME AND DID NOT DELIVER ON THEIR PROMISES. Do to the lack of empathy or concern for its customer, I was STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT UNTIL 4PM( 6HOURS)! PLUS, MY WAGES WAS DEDUCTED BECAUSE I COULD NOT RETURN BACK TO WORK. AVIS did a poor job of correcting the mistake made on their part. This was the WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. AVIS/BUDGET IS UNTRUSTWORTHY.
