I booked a car with Avis and prepaid my reservation. When I returned the car they charged my card for an extra $1,000. They said the base rate had changed. I showed them the Avis email confirmation that stated what the base rate was that I agreed to pay. They said they can change it. I wouldn't have booked with them had I known that and I have never experienced that with any other rental company. SO BEWARE OF AVIS, they'll just charge your card for whatever amount they feel like despite anything they may have quoted you.
I made my reservation online four days ago. At 3:00 p.m. today, I went to Avis on Main Street in downtown Kansas City to pick up the vehicle. Victor and his significant other asked for my credit card and driver's license. Immediately, they told me we don't accept that credit card. I told him I had reserved the car with it online and was charged. So, I suggested my debit card. Victor asked me for my credit score, and I told him 724, and Victor said you should be approved. Then he did a credit check, and Equifax did not approve me. He said, "It must be debt to income ratio." Then, Victor asked me for a voucher code when I reserved the car online. I told him I did not receive a voucher code but only a reservation number. So, Victor told me he could not rent to me or use another major credit car for the car, plus $250.00. Then, he told me I had done something wrong when I made the reservation online on October 16th. So, I called AVIS when I got home, and Andrea told me I did not need a voucher code but just the reservation. So I suggested that she call Victor at the Main Street location while on the phone to confirm that I did not need a voucher code, just the reservation, but she refused to call him. So, I requested a refund and cancellation. Andrea told me she could cancel my reservation but not issue a refund because she could not see the charge. So, based on how Victor, Andrea, and AVIS handled me, I will no longer rent from AVIS because they're insensitive and use biased-base tactics. Victor told me that if I had a billion dollars in the bank, they still wouldn't rent me because I did not pass the credit check. And he's been doing this for 43 years while mingling with his girlfriend at work, and he knew I rented from them before.
Moreover, I asked to speak to Andrea's supervisor, and she put me on hold for a very long time. AVIS is unprofessional, inconsiderate, and policing with biased-based tactics. I can't attend Oklahoma to see my daughter perform for her homecoming.
Our own vehicle broke down in Burley ID on 5 Oct 2023. We were finally able to contact Avis to arrange for a rental vehicle to get back home to Edmonton Canada. We were told we had to make our way to Great Falls MO as that was the closest office that had a vehicle that could go over the border. We had to pay over $1500 Cdn. We are both military veterans so that was an unexpected cost. We made our way to Great Falls on the morning of 8 Oct 2023 where the girl at the front desk said - no vehicle. We had 3 emails from Avis confirming rental between 6-8 Oct. Asked her for head office number and said she didn't have it and walked to the back office where she stayed. I finally found head office number and the fellow on the line was not helpful and said we will have to cancel your rental. Refund will take 7-10 days. So now my husband (PTSD vet) and his service dog and I are sitting under a tree with our suitcases. The topper to this when we get our refund - it is not a full refund, short about $75 Cdn short.
The unprofessional attitude will mean that I never look to Avis for a rental again. I will make sure our community knows what kind of service they can expect.
"I can't do anything." "That's not possible." "You can't do that." "Sorry, I can't help you." "You'll have to call Avis Customer Service. We can't do anything." Those fictions are all you'll hear from Avis, and you'll hear them over and over.
We heard them, repeatedly, in the Bellevue, WA office from which we rented. I heard them repeatedly in my six calls to customer service, who, according to the Bellevue office, would fix the problem the Bellevue office caused. Other commenters online have said the same: No one at Avis tells the truth, no one is competent, and everyone sends you to the Customer Service line, who say and do whatever it takes to take your money and get you off the phone. If you want to rent from liars and incompetents, Avis is your company. If you want decent customer service and decent treatment, go somewhere else.
I want to start by saying that this has been the absolute WORST experience I have had with a car rental company in 40 years of traveling and renting cars extensively for both business and leisure. I have been an Avis customer for over 20 years, I am no longer an Avis customer.
1. The vehicle we rented from the Key West Airport location on August 19,2023 was in poor mechanical condition. The car would not start on the morning of August 24,2023.
2. We called Avis for assistance and received nothing but the run around and NO help. We were told to wait with the vehicle for and hour or more waiting for roadside service. It was 95+ degrees outside so this was a completely asinine and ignorant statement. We made multiple calls and spent over an hour on the phone trying to get assistance.
3. We were unable to talk with the local Avis rental center which was only two miles from where we were stranded.
4. Avis refused to provide a replacement rental vehicle to us, leaving us without transportation.
5. We advised Avis that we would not stay with the vehicle but we would walk back to our hotel and they could pick up the keys to the vehicle from the hotel.
6. The tow driver showed up at our hotel a couple of hours later and picked up the keys from us and we gave him the precise location of the vehicle.
7. The fact that Avis chose to tow the disabled vehicle 170 miles to Miami instead of towing it back to the Key West Airport location only two miles away is an Avis decision and we will not be held liable for such poor decision making.
8. Attempting to charge us for tolls incurred during the towing of the vehicle is again an Avis decision and we are not responsible.
9. Adding one way fees to our bill is again another attempt to defraud us out of money as it was Avis that decided to tow the vehicle to Miami instead of returning to Key West Airport.
10. We did not drive the vehicle 54 miles, we drove a total of at most 10 miles as we never left the island of Key West, which is only 2 miles by 4 miles and we only drove to 5 places on the island over the course of the 4 and ½ days the car actually ran before dying.
11. As the vehicle was unable to be driven by us due to mechanical failure we had no opportunity to put fuel in the vehicle, we will not be held liable for fuel charge.
12. I have no idea where Avis came up with charging us an additional day as we did not have use of the vehicle for two of the days we had actually rented the vehicle.
All I see here is an attempt to fraudulently charge us for very stupid decisions made by Avis.
Avis is a wonderful car rental company. I was about to run in and out with no issues. I told them exactly what I wanted and needed for my trip, and they went above and beyond giving me a sedan with plenty of room and great on gas mileage! I appreciate you!
My experience is and was very poor. I rented a vehicle with Avis on July 12,2023. The first vehicle I picked up reeked of cigarette smoke, so I requested a different car to which they did accommodate. While in this vehicle, I was driving on the freeway and a large truck kicked up a rock and chipped the windshield. Didn't think to much of it, figured they would be able to get it repaired and send me the bill. Well they did and they couldn't just repair, they had to replace the entire windshield which came to a grand total of $1,156.53. As soon as I received their correspondence I reached out immediately to get this matter resolved. When I initially called in the gentleman I spoke with assured me that my claim could be resolved by my insurance company Liberty Mutual, and if I didn't want to go through them he could reduce the amount owed by 20% (Seems Scammy but ok). I opted to have my insurance company resolve it and filed my claim. The claim was approved almost immediately within 48 hours, to which Liberty sent an email to request how they would like to proceed with accepting payment. AVIS did not respond to their email, so I emailed AVIS directly 2 times, to which I did not receive any response. Fast forward to today, and come to find out my credit card was charged the entire amount, and they are unwilling to refund, reverse, or help me in the customer service department. The claims department they've forwarded to me is stating over an hour wait to speak with someone, and if I would like to speak with the supervisors, supervisor, it will take 24 to 48 hours. The experience I received is unacceptable, and I will be leaving my review in across numerous websites, and travel agencies IE (Expedia, Travelocity, ETC.).
I rented a car from Avis to take my grandchildren to Florida for a vacation I paid in advance but I brought the car back one day early and they refused to refund me any money do not ever prepay Avis their company sucks find the car somewhere else
I went to Avis to get a Car Rental through Uber of course I have to have a Bank Account get the vehicle it's going on 2 months this company charged me Double I have sent them my personal Bank Accounts information get this problem resolved now two of My Bank Accounts are Negative due to their mistakes I'm very disappointed in this company I will not ever get another vehicle through this company again. Please fix your mistakes!
I rent from Avis when my family and I need a larger vehicle to travel out of town. Ash the customer service agent in Gurnee always makes it happen, he has not failed us yet. You can contact him and let him know your needs and they will be taken care of. All miles are unlimited, unless mentioned.
Rented a car in the USA twice. Paid with a debit card.
They took a deposit totaling about $500.
I have been writing letters for 4 months asking for a return.
Firstly, the amounts are offered less and in order to dispute it is necessary to provide a million documents that the bank must give. And the bank asks for documents from Avis.
As a result, I only deal with the transfer between them.
I agree already for an amount less, but they have not been able to return it for a month now.
We rented a car from AVIS in Naples, Italy, from 1/17 to 1/21/23. Paid in full on 1/23. On 3/20 I was charged $59.56 w/o explanation. Called on 3/29 to dispute charges. Never heard back. Called again 4/4 and AVIS was unable to explain charge. On 4/21, I received an email indicating the charge was for a missed toll. However, they wouldn't produce the bill & directed me to contact issuing authority. I did so but they also never produced any proof of the charge. I paid the $59.56. On 7/20/23 I was charged $54.86 again w/o explanation. I called on 7/20--again they couldn't explain the charges. Have heard nothing since. Waisted so much time in March and now again in July. My recommendation is to with any other car rental company and save yourself headaches.
On 2/15/2023 I made a reservation for a car rental in Fort Lauderdale. Today, 7/14/2023, when I reviewed my timeline for the upcoming trip I see my base rate when from $440 to over $1500! What? So, I got on the Avis website and started a chat with Avis. My first operator conveniently disappeared when I mentioned my base rate being raised. The second operator guided me to their 1-800 line. Now, when I call there I am told that I have reached the Budget line and was asked to call Avis. I am pretty sure they are all the same company, and they just want to give you the run around and take more money. Needless to say, I put the same dates in Expedia and found a car for 1/3 the cost. Literally the exact same car. Canceled Avis, for life. No more business with them. They are in the doldrums with the other crap companies like Frontier and Spectrum. Stay away!
I flied to Malaga on 30th of June from Milano but because of delays of flight in Europe I arrived to airport at 00:15 instead of 19:30 but unfortunately I saw the sign on Budget shop that they are closing at 22:30 at the weekends while the other competitor brands were open. I tried my chance to visit the office at carpark it was fortunately open but the officer said that they were not working and he stayed there as due for an another customer,if I would like to get my key for the car I have to pay EUR 73 for the officer's cost at that moment. I already paid 63 euro for hiring the car for 2 days but they said they would charge me 73 euro additionally as I get my key at 00:15.
Budget is a big company and should always keep the office open till morning. Because of this I will not recommend to hire a car.
My reservation number is *******
Then second shock which is much and much shocking is I RETURNED THE CAR AND DELIVERED THE CAR WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE. THESE ADDITIONAL PAYMENTS ARE TAKEN FOR THE DAMAGES WHICH I DIDNT DO AND THEY DIDNT SAY WHEN I LEFT THE CAR AND SPAIN. THIS IS TOTALLY ROBBING CHEATING. THIS KIND IF ROBBERY I HAVE NEVER SEEN IN MY LIFE
HOW A PERSON CAN BLAIMED FOR A DAMAGE WHICH IS NOT TRUE AFTER DELIVERY BY THIS MUCH BIG AND PROFESSIONAL GROUP? MOST OROBABLY THAT IS DONE BY WORKERS THERE OR THEY ARE TRYING TO ENLARGE INCOME BY DOING THIS KIND OF TRICKS
SHAME ON YOU BUDGET/AVIS
I REGRET I PREFERRED YOU
Do Not use this company, AVIS there service is terrible, AVIS They don't show you to your car, they just tell you it's in the car park. There AVIS GPS units don't work properly every day GPS took us to at least 3 wrong roots, then when asked about it, in a brand new car, If you had paid xtra we would of upgraded the GPS. With AVIS if you mark the car at all you will get absolutely ripped off,I did a small amount of damage. I had quotes from reputable company for €500 to repair fast in 2 days, AVIS have taken €1800 from our credit card without authorisation. This is how they make their real money, by their costumers unfortunate mistakes. This is how they destroy their reputation. AVIS We Try Harder; what a joke.
My wife had the worst customer service experience of her life with Avis. She first received a vehicle with a heavy cigarette smoke smell at the downtown Dayton location and there were no other vehicles at the location for her to swap.
She then had to go to the Dayton airport location and the Avis rep was awful and not empathetic at all! He even told my wife that the other location was lying or implied that my wife was lying about them not having other vehicles. She got a different vehicle, which was smaller than what we paid for and one of the seatbelts did not work. After a half an hour of trying to fix the seatbelt, they gave her a third vehicle. At that point, she had already lost about 2 and a half hours of her day.
I called customer service several times and one rep told me to call back after my wife was done with the rental to get a full refund of the prepaid amount. After returning the vehicle, customer service told me the best they could do was a 20% refund. After arguing and telling the rep that I was lied to, he offered me a 40% refund.
Even when my wife returned the vehicle to Greensboro, NC, at 10:50AM, the location was closed with a sign saying to come back at 11:15AM. She wasted even more time having to go back later.
I cannot believe how utterly incompetent this company was at every step of the way! They could offer to pay me to drive their rental cars and I would refuse. It was the worst customer service experience we have ever had!
I'm afraid I have lost all patience with Avis, who apparently do not care that they have charged me twice for the same rental in Houston. I pointed this out to Avis UK, which is where I rented the car on my Avis account. The UK customer support were sympathic, and agreed that the second charge of around $380 was an error, but advised that they had to pass the matter to Avis USA for them to conclude. After a great many emails to the USA team, and also to the UK support team, all i get is an automated response with a support reference number. No other responses, and we're now coming up to month 3 since the illegal charge and since i raised the issue with Avis. How can they possibly think that this is acceptable? Like other reviewers, I must vote with my feet, and advise other renters to do the same.
Poor customer service at the gate, non-existent customer service on the phone. I won't be using Avis ever again. If I could leave negative stars I would.
Pick up location at Madrid Atocha station was incorrect online. Office closed at 8:05am, with a sign directing us to the carpark office which was difficult to locate.
Normal line had 1 desk, Preferred desk had 3 desks. Very slow line. All of the staff, especially Delia, were rude and unhelpful, forcing us to cancel the reservation
Freak team! I rented a car and paid in advance. Then I tried to contact the rental office for 5 days to find out if they accept cash for payment.
I made 39 calls to the Serbian office! 39 times, Carl! Nobody answered me. And then one day before the rental, suddenly someone picks up the phone and says that cash is not accepted.
As a result, I have to cancel my booking and lose 50€, my precious time and nerves.
Just a winner for worst customer service. Numbers I called: +381 11 2097 062, +381 11 3676 644. Give me back my money!
Answer: They don't answer their phone. If you want to contact the office, you have to go directly to the office and wait in line.
Answer: On June, 24,2020, I arrived at sky harbor airport rented a vehicle from Payless or Budget. Upon arrival, there was a long waiting period. The associate told me he would give me a better car for the same price as the initial rental I reserved. Also, he stated I could pay 40 dollars to receive the advantage of bringing the car back on empty if I chose. Two weeks later when I come to extend my rental I found out Avis was overcharging me and had to get the price adjusted. Later I called the 1800 number to extend my rental from July 24 to August 24th in which Avis did do. On August 24th, I called to extend my rental for two months. However, the associate said I could only extend for 1 month (August 24th -September 24th). So, I submitted for another month. The associate told me she submitted it. So I was under the understanding that my rental had been extended. On September 17th, I received a text message as well as a phone call stating that I needed to return the vehicle because it was critically past due. If not returned, the police will be notified of the care being stolen. I'm a travel Crisis nurse; I had to leave work and drive 35 mins to get to the Avis/budget location in Chandler. On the way to Avis, I called the 1800 number again. The associates were saying my submission was "improperly put in" by the associate. I asked why would I need to bring the vehicle back. Can you guys just charge my card on file for the month I initially requested? The associate said no and I had to return the car. The associate at the Chandler, AZ location was very nonchalant. I explained the situation above and he stated the people I spoke to on the 1800 number were not the boss. They cannot extend my rental. I should have called an actual location. I was explaining to him that they already extended it for me once. Thus, they can extend the rental. Also, the automated system has an option to extend your rental. So, I was not understanding why the information he was providing and the system was contraindicating. I asked him to refund my money for the charges and fees placed because this whole situation was an AVIS error not mine. He said he could not adjust any charges on my account. I would have to go back to the location, my contract originated. Then, I drove to the Sky Harbor Airport and the associates there was very calm and truly tried to explain everything. However, the manager stated that he could not adjust any charges and fees and that I would have to call corporate to get a refund. Also, he said I would have to return the car officially. Then, the corporate associates will be able to look at my account. I officially returned the vehicle. While in the Avis location at Sky Harbor, I called the 1800 number again. I explained the situation, and the associate stated my account was being investigated. I asked to speak with someone who can refund my money that day, because Avis charged my card on file right at 3,000 dollars. My usual rental charges was 1,000-1060 per month. I had the car three weeks and three days past August 24. The associate told me there was a 24-48hr period before refund would be given because they had to look at the account. I continued to ask for a refund today. He consistently said no basically. He hung up on me. I called back and spoke with someone different and went through the same process except I found out I couldn't even get another rental for Avis or Budget because I was placed on a DO-NOT-RENT LIST. I explained that I needed to return to work and needed to rent another car. He said he would suggest going to another company until this is cleared. I asked to speak with the manager and the manager said the same thing. I was beyond frustrated. I went to the other companies at the airport and all of them were sold out of cars. So, I was STUCK AT THE AIRPORT WITH NO CAR AND NO WAY TO GET BACK TO WORK. I called the 1800 number again to see if I can speak with someone above the floor supervisor, and I was told I could not. The floor supervisor stated to me that he could not give me the number. I explained my disbelief and disappointment in Avis for how poorly they had treated me. Everybody was very nonchalant. So, I had to catch an uber to my hotel and research locations to get a vehicle. I was CARLESS until Sunday. My experience with AVIS was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. AVIS FAILED ME AND DID NOT DELIVER ON THEIR PROMISES. Do to the lack of empathy or concern for its customer, I was STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT UNTIL 4PM( 6HOURS)! PLUS, MY WAGES WAS DEDUCTED BECAUSE I COULD NOT RETURN BACK TO WORK. AVIS did a poor job of correcting the mistake made on their part. This was the WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. AVIS/BUDGET IS UNTRUSTWORTHY.
