They take a $200.00 hold fee that you'll never see for 3-5 when the people at the counter it would be returned 24 hours later after the return the full of gas and in good shape. Stay away!
At St. Louis airport's Avis/Budget rental desk the lines snake thru the lobby & out into the parking lot. Agents show no urgency, are surly. Took 2 hours to get a car that was reserved months ago.
Can't believe an employee is allowed to behave the way she did and even in front of the manager! Racial profiling in our case! Definitely don't rent in St. Louis! Took 1 hour to get problem solved and car! Will never use Avis again! Will go back to Hertz!
Never rent a car with Avis. It is total rubbish
I rent my car with Avis and I will never do it again in my life. I rent it in Rome at Stazione Termini. The employees are very slow and unfortunately also doing some racist comments against my ethnic group. For some unknown reason they did not accept my 3 credit cards and they did not give me back my money (240 euros are now gone from your pocket). When I started asking for help and support they just start smiling and offending both me and my family. I called my lawyer and I hope to be able to find a solution soon or later...
Excerpt of letter to the exec team:
Based on a formality in relation to a payment that had been followed up by the Strand Street Branch with me I did not have a chance to respond to an email I received in a timely fashion, being unaware that this would lead to the involvement of an investigator who was not only chasing me down the street by driving recklessly and breaking multiple traffic rules but threatened to physically harm me and verbally abused me - and finally broke the key of my car - which required me to return home unexpectedly and to wait for a replacement car to be provided.
As it stands this was all the result of an email that I hadn't respond to and I can't even express the level of disappointment and disgust in relation to the unprofessional, poor and unacceptable handling of the matter and will follow up on the physical and emotional abuse.
If you would please be so kind as to point me into the right direction with regards to next steps in terms of addressing the complaint at the highest level of seniority since I am of the opinion that no business, dealing with customers, and, more importantly, putting their customers first, should be treating their clients like this.
The fact that I had been put through this is an absolute disgrace and I trust in your ability to find an appropriate solution for this.
If I could give this rental car company a negative star I would. Worst experience ever. Don't bother renting a car from Avis/Budget. They will price gouge you like there's no tomorrow. My flight was canceled and I tried to drive back in time and returned the car that same day but only a handful of hours late. They ended up charging me an extra $377. Never again, Avis/Budget.
I don't think you could be a worse company than Avis. I spent a $160 in Ubers going from location to location to pick up my prepaid reservation. I was continually assured there was a car but there were NO cars. And Avis loves their customers so much that they will maybe refund your money in 5 to 10 days! Won't even go into the rudeness I experienced from employees! Epic!
Be carful guys they are fishing people. This is the worst company and they are going to thief you. I search for a car from Montreal airport and i didn't notice when i reserve that its another location and in the airport they didn't till me this is a deferent location and there is a extra charge almost double the price and i sign the contract thinking that this extra is a security bit i found out they fish me. Bad management and bad workers. And they excuse at the first that i sign then they said its for the insurance and i told them at the very beginning i need only basic insurance as my reservation
I made a reservation through Carla for 11am. Price was special offer and I got the rental for a very cheap amount but when I arrived they waited me for an hour. No reason.
We were in Florence Italy and had rented a car from Leasys. When we got there to pick it up, they wouldn't add my husband as an additional insured as he was driving (we didn't have his credit card as I made the reservation and used my card). We were unable to pick up our rental and went to Avis to try to find a rental. Avis saved the day!
The young lady (I honestly forgot to get her name) was extremely helpful and we were able to get a rental with my credit card, but have my husband as the driver by adding as the additional insured. The rental process was quick and we were on our way. It was more than double our original rental rate as we were a last minute rental. The cost is the only thing that kept this at 4 stars. Thank you Avis!
I rented from them in June in Milwaukee and cancelled and took Uber. Tried again in October in Milwaukee same issue hour plus wait and they had cars! Now in Newark and same issue again. Close to 2 hour line and they have cars! Get it together!
If I could give 0 star, I would. I dealt with 2 reps from Avis in 2 different locations. I dealt with 2 complete crooks. I think they're trained to be dishonest and just squeeze every penny they can in any possible way. The 1st guy told me I needed to get insurance. I didn't. I told him I was insured by my American Express credit card. He didn't want my wife's card (same business card). Then I tried another card my bank blocked. I told him my Chase credit card would work. I was so tired of arguing, it was midnight, I gave another credit card without noticing it was a Chase card, and that I didn't need to pay for insurance (it doubled the rental price). The guy knew it but didn't say anything. I tried to get a refund the next morning, they said no. The first guy even recommended I prepaid my gas. When I looked at the screen, it said "$75" (the rep forgot to mention that). I told him it seemed awfully expensive. He argued it would be at least $85 elsewhere (absolutely not true). It turned out to be a very small car. Full tank cost less than $50.
The bottom line is: Run away from AVIS and from car rentals as a whole I would say. I hadn't tried TURO so far, but from now on, I think I will!
Charged me $654.32 for a 24 hour car rental... for a 220.00 advertised price? Wtf and forget about trying to dispute it
Although I had a valid contract for another four months, Avis had sent a towing truck to tow away my rental car and returned to them. They never contacted us to report a problem with it or asked us to return it. Took the content of the car as well and hasn't reached out to us or offered to return our personal belongings. Useless customer service as well as no one is willing to explain what had happened. Even four days after the towing order doesn't show up on their system. Going to sue their $#*! off.
I recommend get your car somewhere else or simply walk by foot.
I rented a car, they give me a car with an expired tag. The car got towed, and I can't take it out of the tow place because is illegal for me to drive it with an expired tag. I returned the key to the airport but they are not picking up the car or closing my rental, and every time I call them, the representatives are completely rude to me, criticize the company and blame other departments, and no one does anything to solve the problem. Has been 3 days of going to the airport and calling on the phone all day.
I walked into Avis in Pittsburgh PA to rent a car on November 3,2022. It's was a Thursday at 11:45am. I was told that the car was $38 a day and $16. A day for liability insurance. I for 3 days $97.00 up front +a refundable $200 for the deposit on return of car. Was asked to bring car back with full tank and not to smoke. On The 5th I got a call asking me if I was returning the car I said no that I was going to keep it for a few more days I ended up keeping it to the 9th of November I went in and brought the car back at 11:00 in the morning they gave me a bill I walked out and never even looked at the bill I asked since I kept the car for longer I asked if they were taking that out of my security deposit they said yes I asked how much was left for my security deposit he said about one 40 so I figured well that was fine because it was just like a few of a couple more dollars cuz I already had paid the ninety seven dollars never looked at the bill got to work the next day was going to order food went to order food I had no money in my account Avis charge me $648 for the car that I rented for 3 days and kept 2 more days. They charged me $185 for a loss damage waiver which I never ordered they charged me for an extension fee they charged me for a late fee they charged me for a state surcharge fee charged me for a county surcharge fee charged me all kind of fees that I've never even heard of and they charged me for a passenger fee and I never even had anybody in the car this is the worst car rental place in the world I tried calling them I was hung up on I was screamed screamed at. I was charged so many bogus fees that my bill came to $646 for renting a car for 5 days at $38 a day and liability insurance they charged me a state surcharge fee they even charged me a passenger fee this is the worst car rental place in the whole world I will never ever rent a car from them ever again.
Waited for an hour for a dirty van. We had one booked they gave that $#*! away and made us wait for a dirty $#*!ing van. $#*! these people and the company. I'm never coming back :)
We rented a car in Austin, Tx and it caught on fire on the interstate. They never sent us help or a new car. They left us stranded in a strange place, two women, to fend for ourselves. They never did anything to help us.
We picked up the car in Salt Lake City, for a one way to Cheyenne Wyoming. The car was turned in later than we booked, but on the same day. The agent in SLC was clear we would be charged for the extra time; what wasn't clear until we received the email receipt is we not only were charged an extra day, but Avis didn't honor the rate according to the rental agreement. Instead they charged a much higher rate, so the extra hours in the end more than doubled the charge to my credit card. Customer Service follow up has Avis conveying yes, the final charge is accurate, and they still haven't communicated where they state this is the case in the rental agreement. Beware!
Just a warning they don't review the car with you when you get it or drop it off. I rented a car seat that was the wrong size for my child they only had one size and it was dirty the car was dirty there were lights on. What started out as a 108 rental turned into one that was $400! There were technical issues with the car and there was nobody available to help not only that but I didn't get what I requested to rent.
Answer: They don't answer their phone. If you want to contact the office, you have to go directly to the office and wait in line.
Answer: On June, 24,2020, I arrived at sky harbor airport rented a vehicle from Payless or Budget. Upon arrival, there was a long waiting period. The associate told me he would give me a better car for the same price as the initial rental I reserved. Also, he stated I could pay 40 dollars to receive the advantage of bringing the car back on empty if I chose. Two weeks later when I come to extend my rental I found out Avis was overcharging me and had to get the price adjusted. Later I called the 1800 number to extend my rental from July 24 to August 24th in which Avis did do. On August 24th, I called to extend my rental for two months. However, the associate said I could only extend for 1 month (August 24th -September 24th). So, I submitted for another month. The associate told me she submitted it. So I was under the understanding that my rental had been extended. On September 17th, I received a text message as well as a phone call stating that I needed to return the vehicle because it was critically past due. If not returned, the police will be notified of the care being stolen. I'm a travel Crisis nurse; I had to leave work and drive 35 mins to get to the Avis/budget location in Chandler. On the way to Avis, I called the 1800 number again. The associates were saying my submission was "improperly put in" by the associate. I asked why would I need to bring the vehicle back. Can you guys just charge my card on file for the month I initially requested? The associate said no and I had to return the car. The associate at the Chandler, AZ location was very nonchalant. I explained the situation above and he stated the people I spoke to on the 1800 number were not the boss. They cannot extend my rental. I should have called an actual location. I was explaining to him that they already extended it for me once. Thus, they can extend the rental. Also, the automated system has an option to extend your rental. So, I was not understanding why the information he was providing and the system was contraindicating. I asked him to refund my money for the charges and fees placed because this whole situation was an AVIS error not mine. He said he could not adjust any charges on my account. I would have to go back to the location, my contract originated. Then, I drove to the Sky Harbor Airport and the associates there was very calm and truly tried to explain everything. However, the manager stated that he could not adjust any charges and fees and that I would have to call corporate to get a refund. Also, he said I would have to return the car officially. Then, the corporate associates will be able to look at my account. I officially returned the vehicle. While in the Avis location at Sky Harbor, I called the 1800 number again. I explained the situation, and the associate stated my account was being investigated. I asked to speak with someone who can refund my money that day, because Avis charged my card on file right at 3,000 dollars. My usual rental charges was 1,000-1060 per month. I had the car three weeks and three days past August 24. The associate told me there was a 24-48hr period before refund would be given because they had to look at the account. I continued to ask for a refund today. He consistently said no basically. He hung up on me. I called back and spoke with someone different and went through the same process except I found out I couldn't even get another rental for Avis or Budget because I was placed on a DO-NOT-RENT LIST. I explained that I needed to return to work and needed to rent another car. He said he would suggest going to another company until this is cleared. I asked to speak with the manager and the manager said the same thing. I was beyond frustrated. I went to the other companies at the airport and all of them were sold out of cars. So, I was STUCK AT THE AIRPORT WITH NO CAR AND NO WAY TO GET BACK TO WORK. I called the 1800 number again to see if I can speak with someone above the floor supervisor, and I was told I could not. The floor supervisor stated to me that he could not give me the number. I explained my disbelief and disappointment in Avis for how poorly they had treated me. Everybody was very nonchalant. So, I had to catch an uber to my hotel and research locations to get a vehicle. I was CARLESS until Sunday. My experience with AVIS was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. AVIS FAILED ME AND DID NOT DELIVER ON THEIR PROMISES. Do to the lack of empathy or concern for its customer, I was STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT UNTIL 4PM( 6HOURS)! PLUS, MY WAGES WAS DEDUCTED BECAUSE I COULD NOT RETURN BACK TO WORK. AVIS did a poor job of correcting the mistake made on their part. This was the WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. AVIS/BUDGET IS UNTRUSTWORTHY.
