ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I sent seven very good quality, almost new, name brand (Burberry, Kenneth Cole) items and only 1 was accepted. Why? No idea! I didn't do it for the money, but wanted to make sure my clothes went to someone who would use them. God knows what happens to what they don't give you credit for.

Slowwwwwww
December 15, 2022

It's going on 5 months since I sent my clean out closet bag! Every 2 months the date is delayed. Come on already! Hire more people or something? Plus, the clothes are over priced and disappointing. I will never send or buy clothes from this site again! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! You are better off selling your own clothes on ebay or Poshmark.

Has gone downhill
December 14, 2022

I used to be a huge fan of ThredUp, but they have gone downhill since I originally started shopping with them. First they added restocking fees, which made it more difficult to return items, then they did a weird and totally off-brand clothing line (wasn't the whole point reducing clothing waste - I get that it's a business, but this was not in line with what they supposedly stood for), and since the pandemic things have gotten worse. The increased wait time for cleanout kits made sense when the pandemic was at it's peak, but it's been years. It seems like they should have implemented some changes to speed things up by now, but if it anything it's worse than it was in 2020. You can't even order cleanout kits right now, but you're welcome to donate product to them for free so that they can make money off it, and you can benefit from knowing you helped a corporation rather than someone in need - are these people serious? The customer service isn't great either. The concept itself is good, and you can find some good clothes, but these are usually not any cheaper than you could get on sale at the original retailer. I don't think I will ever shop with them again unless they make some pretty big changes.

Slow, slow, slow
December 10, 2022

I sent them spring and summer weight clothing in April so that they would be available for purchase during the spring and summer. All of the items were name brand and rated "like new." Throughout this process they kept changing the date that the items would be available on their site. They didn't process my bag until October! Who is going to purchase these things when it's cold? Many of the items didn't sell before ThredUP's deadline and were donated or destroyed. I would have been better off donating them myself and getting the tax benefit.

Rip off

Thred up is a rip off. They steal your clothes and make you wait months to deny a whole shipment of brand new clothes and don't even return them. Rip off

Lost bag
December 7, 2022

I dropped off two clean out bags at the post office 1/4 mile from the processing center. I arrived one, containing some high end clothing, was "lost". They made no effort to help me find the bag. As it was a prepaid bag, I got no receipt, just a drop off.
Then the bag that was received was delayed 3 times for processing. I understand staffing shortages but it was almost 6 months to process. I told them to return my bag and suddenly it was too late and already processed.
This is the second really bad experience I have had with this company. Previously I had sent in a brand new Calvin Klein blazer, never worn, they said there was no size tag. There was, I had checked. An expensive handbag and they claim it had scratches, it was distressed leather! Beware!

SCAM DO NOT SELL
December 7, 2022

When sending in my items to thredup, well worth over $1000, they lost my items. No solution was ever made and I was just out of luck. Wrongful customer service and no integrity, do not sell with them not worth it.

Items are good, but often not as described
December 6, 2022

I am done with Thredup. Twice I have ordered jeans that were the fit and fabric content I wanted, and both times I was sent jeans that were a different fit and fabric content than what what was described, or even shown in the photo. I have also ordered sweaters that weren't described as petites, but arrived as petites. The returns are free, but they won't give cash refunds, even though it was their mistakes. They only give store credits. You can't trust their item descriptions.

Almost Nothing Fit
December 3, 2022

I bought seven items from thredup and only 2 of them fit. They looked completely different on the mannequin. Not to mention, I ordered my size. I'm a size 6 (US) in pants and a size 8 was WAY too big on me. I'm very sad because the clothes were nice. Also I have no way of getting my money back since they were all final sale items, but that's on me since I didn't read that part. I don't recommend this company to anyone. While I love thrifting to help decrease my carbon footprint (and being a broke college kid), thredup is not worth thrifting from. Really disappointed.

Still waiting
December 2, 2022

I sent 2 huge boxes of clothing, mostly new with tags, back in July of 2022. Initially they said it would take 8 weeks to process. It is now December 2,2022 and the boxes have not been processed. My boxes may have no value at this point seeing that most items were for the summer. In October I checked the status of processing. The site said my boxes would be processed November 14th. I checked today and now it says December 12th. Never again will I send my items to thus scam of a company. I rather donate to my local charity. I wouldn't be surprised if TU donates most of the items they receive to get a huge tax write off. Brilliant, using "consignment" as a cover to be deceitful.

I sent in a bag to thredup to sell in June of 2022. It is currently December 2022 and my bag has not even begun to process. Right now it just seems like a scam to steal my clothes, but if they do end up selling my clothes then I will be selling summer clothes in the dead of winter. But buying clothes is even worse. I have bought several items and they are always completely different from the pictures and description. Overall this website is a scam, please don't waste your time!

Stole over 1k worth of items
December 1, 2022

Absolute scam. I sent over $1k worth of items to business aka "clean out kit". This was over 6 months ago and never received money. They do not respond via email, there is no phone number and the no one responds over chat. This is the worst service I've ever received. They then deleted my account so there was no evidence. DO NOT USE THIS SITE

Disappointing
December 1, 2022

I have ordered from them twice. Once for me and once for my daughter. I was quite disappointed when I got my order. Some of the shirts were not as they said that they were. They had holes and stains. A pair of the denim was dirty. Not what I had expected. I was apprehensive about ordering stuff my daughter wanted and I should have listened to my gut. Half the stuff she got in the mail was dirty and had holes. They were not advertised like that. I will not order from them again. Not what I expected especially if you are picking designer items. I understand that this is second hand but honestly it doesn't seem any different than a local Goodwill.

Vicious Cycle of Bad Quality
November 28, 2022

So you order an item from thredup and you wait a week or two and it finally gets to your house. You open the box, so pleased to be able to thrift not only online, but also at any time.

Inside are your items - except that the measurements are completely wrong so nothing fits, and the things that magically do aren't in the condition that they were toted to be.

You have to pay a $1.99 - no, I just checked - it's $3.99 restocking fee for your items. If you get refunded for store credit, then any future returns will also be in store credit. There's an $8.99 shipping fee that is only every refunded in store credit.
There's no way to cash out the store credit, and if you somehow manage to finagle a refund to cash, who knows when it WILL be refunded. Maybe never!

On top of all of this, there's rumors circling about how badly they treat their employees - which could maybe explain the poor quality of items? I don't know.

I'm desperately trying to get my money back and then I'm out. For good.

Take it from someone who has spent thousands of dollars on this website (literally - I'm a VIT/Very Important Thrifter). Do Not Do It. It's basically tapping into a gambling addiction. You're better off going local or trading with friends.

Would love to see another company do this but with some good wages to employees and

Complete rip off.
November 24, 2022

I sent at least $1000 worth of clothes. I skipped a huge box. They offered maybe $150 for all. You're better off selling if Facebook Marketplace which I did with the remainder of my clothes and made wayyyyyy more money.

I was really loving Thread Up until I had issues with a credit I was trying to use. I contacted customer service chat for help and a Michelle was very rude and disrespectful to me. She only argued with me and did not try to resolve my problems. She kept trying to take extra restocking fees off when they already took it off. I will not longer be using them if they cannot even help their customers. Wish I could give 0 stars... It only let me upload one photo, but she said anyone who knows basic math could figure it out, which upset me. The fees were already taken off. I called to use a $10 credit so I'm not sure why she was arguing about a return in the first place. She was upset with me because I called it a coupon and not a credit.

I shipped in my bag in early July. It's mid November and they still haven't gotten to my bag. Customer service to not helpful, I asked for my stuff to just be returned a couple months ago and they said it would happen whenever they reach my bag to process. 10/10 wouldn't use then ever again.

What Happened?
November 14, 2022

Threadup was quite professional presenting and selling the first "cleanout" I sent them. I sent more IN JULY and now a complete stand still FOR FOUR months. I don't know how to get them back at this point. A beautiful white leather jacket simply went missing without an explanation and communication is one way.
