ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

This service is awful to sell your stuff. Took 5 months to process and they sell your items for almii ohs nothing. I would rather donate my stuff. Never again
I've bought from Thred Up twice now... over a year apart... and both orders REEKED and I mean reeked of Febreze or some sort of fabric "cleaner". As a person who chooses safe scent free alternatives to everything it has made the clothing unwearable. Both orders had the exact same scent so it has to be something done at the warehouse. I figured soaking and washing would help... but after about 15 washes in they STILL SMELL. None of the clothing was as described in my second order... and had stains and snags when the things ordered were "like new". I should have returned, but for the cost I just didn't want the hassle. Definitely order elsewhere.
Sadly I found these reviews on sitejabber a little too late...
I would give this place negative stars, but was forced to chose at least one.
They don't deserve even just one.
I'm ready to take these guys to the Better Business Bureau, and so should you!
I'm really disappointed with my order.
I ordered a few pairs of jeans that said they were boot-cut, but they're skinny jeans.
Boot-cut are supposed to flare out a little at the bottom.
One of them is actually a capri length, which was not disclosed in the description.
Another pair is a little stained, which was not disclosed.
One of the sweaters is slightly shrunk, which I could tell when I tried it on.
Also the rayon pants were a little shrunk too, and unevenly, so they didn't fit quite right at the hips.
Their description says they're almost perfect, barely any signs of wear, but that's greatly false.
There's also a black button-down shirt that doesn't have a button toward the bottom so it kind of parts open and shows the belly button.
It was made that way, but the picture didn't show that aspect.
Like other people on here have complained, their descriptions are greatly inaccurate.
The pics do not allow one to see whether there are stains or holes.
Also everything smells like terrible room deodorizer...like those terrible Glade plug-ins that cause cancer.
Their hours say they're open until 9p PST and they say the fastest way to contact is via chat rather than email.
It was only 6:30 PST when I tried their their chat button & it did not work.
When I clicked the link, it opened my email instead.
When I emailed them, the response said it could take up to 3 days to reply.
That's a lot of time when one only has a 14-day window to make a "return."
The screenshots I added show their hours.
One of which shows how I clicked the chat/email link (made it turn green), and my email was brought up, but no chat option.
I might add some more pics or a vid to this later.
I really liked ThredUp after my first two purchases and first clean out kit. I told all my friends about how great they were. Then, things started to go downhill, big time. My subsequent purchases arrived not as described and sometimes dirty. While it was easy to return them, they basically held my money hostage in an account where I could only use my money to make new purchases. The clothes I sent this spring to be sold took more than three months to be listed and one of my boxes went completely MIA, with no response from the company about my items. The proceeds also got held hostage. I now have over $300 in my ThredUp account but I can only get $5 in cash and the rest can only be used to buy something off the site. The customer service person tried to tell me it was due to my asking for cash back too late, but my most recent purchase wasn't even a full month ago and I'd used a combo of the prior return credits, sale of items and money on my card. However, one item was dirty and the other was ripping. Many of the items I'd be interested in buying and using my credits toward are way overpriced for used clothes, and I've seen fake designer bags listed, for what would be considered a normal resale price, if the bag was real. It's very disappointing how downhill this company has gone. I would highly recommend everyone steer clear of buying or selling with them as they're no longer reputable IMHO.
I went to Thredup Canada. And didn't realize it was all in USD prices.
Ended up paying around $80 more than expected. Lesson learned, my bad.
Parcel was expected on the 24th of October, it is now November 3rd with the last tracking update on October 20th at a city 16hrs away. I paid for faster shipping as well.
I just want to know where my order is, and if I need to give someone any additional information.
Update, never received package. FedEx tried to call me to let me know they needed additional information, but thredup gave them the wrong contact number. FedEx shipped my package back.
I tried emailing, and I can't find a customer service number for them. Am I going to be out of $300?
Every time I've purchased something from ThredUP the item description has been miles apart from what I received. They'll say something is in like new condition and it will arrive with holes and severe pilling. AND when they are wrong, they don't refund you. They create a credit on their site so you have to shop again. Absolute horrid service. And feels very dishonest.
They sell some lovely, high end clothing that has been worn very little and is still in new or like new condition. Their prices are good. However- You can never speak to anyone at thredup, there is no way to contact anyone. There are no phone numbers and sending messages gets no response. I sent clothes into them to sell in May, every month they would change the date that the items would be processed and it is now November. I have 6 more bags of clothes I want to send but I don't think I can. They do so many things right it is a shame for this business to fail but I predict that it will fail. You cannot tell people to send their gently used clothes to them which they will pay them, and then never process them.
I sent several quality items for consignment in 2021. I checked on the item in Dec 2021. I was informed there was a backlog, and would not be reviewed, until Jan 2022. Today, i checked back. Surely, i thought enough time was provided. Well, something was sold $25 dollars. I contacted customer service. I was informed the items did not meet their standards and donated. I do not believe that. Some maybe did not, But some where new, with tags attached. I was never contacted. I was never given the opportunity to get them back.
If you don't like what you've purchased they charge a restocking fee and shipping fee or you can pay to have items shipped.
Totally not worth it.
I'm very disappointed.
Will never shop there again.
5 months after sending in my clean out bag, they finally listed only 7 of the items I sent them 3 of which have sold but I still have not gotten my payout. A brand new with tags item is only being listed for 10 days.
They wait so long to list the items that you don't even really remember what you sent them and when trying to check the status of items that are listed as sold it gives you an error message. Honestly one of the worst selling experiences I have ever encountered.
They take your clothes and never pay. Chat sessions are its only customer service and it's only a robot screwing around, wasting your time. IQ of robot chat is about 20. Customer service reps need an IQ of at least 85.
I bought three items for Thredup recently. I requested returns for two items and they send me packing slips for both. Instead of putting them in separate boxes I put both items in the box with the packing slip and extra shipping label. They claim I only returned one item and somehow the other is lost in the ether. There is no customer support. Also, I bought a final sale item- a James Perse jacket that was supposedly in good condition- that had nail polish on the front of the jacket. I'm fed up with Thredup.
First of all it took MONTHS for them to process my bag. Then they didn't list the expensive items, and denied because of "quality standards". Some of these denied items were not even worn but maybe once! Seems shady and honestly I think the "expert processors" profited off me not selecting return insurance because I trusted they were reputable. Will never sell it shop here again.
Basically, it's a scam. Any business that refuses to give you a refund, or makes the refund process a nightmare, to your original purchase method without extra charges is not a decent one. They have a horrible customer service. I attached to this review what the representative said. It's confusing on purpose to get you tired so you say "it's OK, whatever". But I won't say that and I won't stop until they give me my money back.
I sent ThredUp a bag of items to sell on their site in May 2022. In June 2022 I received an email that my bag had been received and items would soon be posted. It is now mid October 2022 and my items have not been posted. At this point, I want my items back and that seems impossible. I have tried to get assistance through the Better Business Bureau and ThredUp says they will send me back my items once they get to the front of the queue. I've not seen my items. There is nobody to call. Emails go unanswered. DO NOT sell items through ThredUp. They are not an honest company. They are awful and shady.
I have been sending clothes to thread up for 5+ years. This has by far been my worst experience selling with them. I sent in a bag back in May, it was supposed to be processed in 6 weeks. The original date was mid-July. It has been pushed back and changed multiple times. It is now not going to be completed until November 11th. 4 months after the first promised date. Everything is going to be way out of season so I know my payout is going to be low which makes me so mad because had the bag been processed when it was supposed to be then the clothes would have been in season.
I've sent 2 boxes of clothing to sell in July, and 1 box in August. As of today, 10/9/21 they still have not processed my shipments. Maybe a need for more employees? I too, am not fond of their refund process. Using your refund as a "shopping credit" makes more sense and less of a hassle.
Mea Culpa... I was so angry at Thred Up for apparently not issuing a credit back for a $100 purchase I inadvertently made that I wrote a scathing review yesterday. Well, it turned out... I was mistaken. The credit was issued back to my card, but I somehow missed it. I still dislike that my clicking on one thing (that in no way suggested to me that I'd be making a purchase) resulted in a purchase that took a few days to be canceled, but I will be more careful in the future. I will continue to be a customer of Thred Up, because I believe that the eco (-nomical and -logical) benefits of buying their clothing outweigh a few drawbacks.
I am disappointed in ThredUP. I have a couple of kits selling. In one kit 2 pair of shoes were sold within 3 days of each other. Unfortunately they were both returned. According to ThredUp they WILL relist those items. The one pair of UGGs got relisted but the other pair of Guiseppe Zanotti never got relisted. I called and they TOLD me that they WERE in fact listed just showing expired on my end. NOT TRUE. There were only 4 G. Zanotti shoes listed and mine were not any of those. So that was an untruth. I later received and email stating they were expired. Expired maybe but your policy is to relist returned items. My question is if my UGGS got relisted why not the G. Zanotti's? These are very expensive shoes and I should have had the proper relist period for those shoes. You have to watch your items very carefully and take screen shots of everything that shows dates etc. Which I do have on the Zanotti's shoes. I am not sure why their policy is not enforced. Even after a call to them to investigate I got nowhere. Still not relisted! Very disappointing and sad.
Be aware that Thredup quality control is not great. The coat I ordered was dirty and covered in hair. It should not have been sent out in that condition. This was my first purchase at ThredUp and will be my last. Reaching anyone in customer service is a joke
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
