ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I made one order and will not bother again. Shopping on the site/app is difficult enough because the products photos are absolutely terrible. You can not tell what material or texture items are, nor how they might fit, or if there is damage by looking at the photos they use. Nearly every clothing company and resale service have no problem using photos that clearly show the items and their quality but this is not the case for ThredUP, which makes it not user-friendly. Beyond that, they do not measure and list sizes correctly either. I placed an order and 3/3 of the items did not fit because they were smaller than the size they were listed as. Not to mention 2 items were listed as "leather" for material and were actually suede. You just can't count on the items you order to be the size, fit, style, or quality they're described as because they don't take the care to properly assess items before listing them. And worse than that, when items don't fit or are not as described, you are still responsible for $1.99 per item and $8.99 return shipping. After one order I wouldn't buy from them again. I don't know how other people have had so much success with them, other than to think it must have been years ago and maybe the service and quality control were better in the past. Based on other reviews posted, I wouldn't bother selling to them either.
The test of a good business is ultimately how well a customer can connect. ThredUP fails. Zero. Double F. The one star is only because it has to be given in order to post a review. IF you find what you like and IF it lives up to expectations, good. But if there is the slightest problem, either as a buyer or seller, forget about solving it. It is a completely Technorobotic culture, chirpy with the latest cool buzzwords intended to appeal to mindless consumers. But be prepared to be disappointed or worse.
My daughter and I sent Thredup 4 boxes of gently used clothes, shoes and handbags this past summer. In some cases the items were new with tags. All were in very good condition. Have never heard a peep back from Thredup. Zero contact. Must be a scam.
If you you send items here to be sold, don't expect to se any money for your efforts. You are just donating goods to a for-profit business. I sent in a large box of high-end clothing and accessories. Thread Up did not process my box for several months. All but one item was accepted, but then it took a couple more months to get the items photographed and listed on the website. Just one or two have sold. My profit on the transactions is just a few dollars. And I have yet to see a check for that pocket change! Total waste of time! I have made a fair amount of money selling on other sites. Thread Up is either very badly managed, or really dishonest. Not sure which of those is true — maybe both. But I am certain this is a business to be avoided.
Do not use thredup to sell your items. Sent my box in May 2022, they claim it takes up to 8 weeks to process, but nothing has been listed to this date (October 2022). I've bought a few things from them, pretty hit or miss, but the description they post is definitely not always accurate. I may consider buying from them again, but will never send another box for them to sell for me.
I ordered several items that said they were silk. They weren't. I returned them and 3 weeks later still haven't gotten a refund even though I received an email saying the refund was processed. I will not buy from thred up again. Only one transaction and I'm already fed up.
I ordered Gap jeans listed as 31" inseam in ad but were listed on jeans as 29" thus were quite short. Additionally, a pair of so called Jones of New York (one of my favorite brands that I am very familiar with) listed dress pants were said to be nylon blend but are clearly polyester with a completely elastic waistband that I was unable to see as pic dark and pants black. It was quite apparent these pants are NOT did not of the quality of Jones of New York! Kind of disappointed and would recommend buyers be cautious when buying pants.
I bought 2 dresses that were not at all accurately described. Had to send back for credit. Now I have $50 credit unable to use because as an account holder you cannot receive any discounts they advertise! And the items they have at listed prices are wayyyy overpriced.
I ordered several items, including a Free People sweatshirt. What I received was a brand called We The Free +, obviously cheaply made clothes. One of them was a supposedly new clothes with a tag, and it did have a tag but no price tag. No suggested retail price either. I have no way of knowing the true value of the clothes even after receiving it. I had to laugh since I knew this could happen after I read so many other reviews with similar complaints, though I read them only after I had placed the order. I feel they were falsely advertised (false brand, missing info) and I suspect their original value (or price) is probably a lot less than what I paid as well, feeling the textile, design, and make. I deleted my account right after I checked the items. What an expensive lesson it was for me. I recommend everyone read the reviews thoroughly before doing any business with this company.
The first clean out bag I sent provided a positive experience with all items accounted for and received payment as items were sold. The second clean out bag did not provide that same experience. I sent in several items including a beautiful, in perfect condition, worn twice suede fringed shirt plus 4 pairs of shoes one pair never worn. Those items never even appeared as being for sale on the site. I tried to contact customer service, which is basically non existent, and finally received a blanket email saying that those items were either out dated or unsellable etc…Had they not accepted and sold immediately my 1970's alpaca skirt I could have understood out of date, but it seems like that era of clothing is back. I just saw a suede fringed skirt on sale at Banana Republic today! My feeling is that whoever opened the bag, liked what they saw and just took it for themself, can't prove it or am I accusing anyone in particular, just my own feeling. Very disappointed with ThredUP and will not be sending in any more items.
Some clothes are damaged when you get them and additionally when you send them a whole bag with clothes some that are new and they give you zero dollars you know it's all a scam! They Just want your clothes to make a buck!
So, I got a notice just now that my order shipped out. This was the opposite of what I wanted as I didn't want the shirt or to do business with them. I was told, in a chat just now completed, that the only way that a order can be canceled is via live chat. I guess they ignore emails (even though I got original response that order cancelation was within their time frame for cancelations). I'm not going to pay over $10.00 for shipping/restock fees on a less than $17.00 shirt! That is completely ridiculous. Will go ahead and toss shirt into garbage when received.
Ordered a shirt and it was still in the "processing" status after almost a week. Sent request to cancel order and was told someone would get back to me in 5 days. Needless to say, I have submitted a dispute with my bank in the hopes that I will get my money back.
They have no qualms sending you items with holes, stains, wrong labels, outrageous pricing compared to retail value - and then you'll only get store credit in return so you can order more junk. Customer service is a joke. This used to be a great shopping experience but after spending thousands over the years, I'm done.
I ordered two dresses for a wedding I was attending out of state. Ordered on 8/27 with Thread up showing a delivery within the dates I needed the dresses to arrive, by 9/6 at the latest, otherwise I would have paid for rush shipping. The order was coming from Georgia and I just live in Florida which is always just a 1 day ship. No problem right? Thread up never even filled the order until 9/1 and it went to a FedEx hub a very short distance away. Then it sat in the Georgia Fedex hub for 4 days! When I asked FedEx why, they stated the shipper only paid for the CHEAPEST method of shipping. These dresses were for a wedding and now I have no dresses and am leaving for Virginia tomorrow. Thanks ThreadUp! :(
I have used ThredUp for years as my main clothing store and always felt good about it. I would order a bunch of things and then send back what I didn't love or didn't fit - their measurements are terrible. I could use my rewards to waive the restocking fees on my order. They have recently changed it without notice and had terrible customer service about it - basically a copy and paste generic "sorry" no matter what I said. The restocking fees are huge and I am done with them. No other clothing store has that kind of hassle. What a rip off. Like many others - I would give it zero stars if I could.
ThredUp you are built on a great concept but poor delivery. Customer service is non existent. Shipping is a joke m it says 10 days but 2 weeks later and I'm still waiting on my 1 item to ship. Over it! It's worth it to pay full price elsewhere.
I placed my 1st order Aug 6. Prompt tracking update said shipped and due to arrive the 10th. Tracking has not updated since, customer service is a joke, the event this was purchased for passed... thredup has the nerve to try to lie to paypal. Now my entire order is missing from their site... and replaced with an "we cant find your order message". I'm taking my experience and review everywhere I can to warn others. Theft and fraud.
I have 4 clean out bags currently waiting to be processed. 1 of the 4 has been there since beginning of May and hasn't been processed yet.
They sell items pretty high, universal thread jeans will still sell for $15 to $20, which really only makes it a $5 difference from buying new. I have found some great deals on there, but really not many.
To return anything it's $1.99, so make sure you really like them.
I sent in about 20 items worth in a bag, received $9 as a payout. So you really do not make a lot of money off anything. I mostly use it cause it's easy instead of posting everything yourself.
But since the pandemic, taking over 4 months to process, I'll just try Plato's closest instead.
Yesterday I was laid off with others who worked longer then myself because "supposedly " they are running out of money. Which is ok. What I do not like is that fact of how they did it and how Erica Anderson the p. O. s Ops Manger made these choices when she has not worked at thredup as long as others let go. She is a very evil person and she should have been the 1st to go following Charmaine from HR. I never did nothing wrong and went to work as scheduled. They are very unorganized and definitely should shut down completely until they can get the whole operations in order the God fearing way and actually think 2nd hand 1st. DO NOT WORK HERE IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY. KIDS UNDER 20 SHOULD DEFINITELY WORK HERE.
Well, I have to say after sending in two kits of cloths where majority of the close were new with tags, never worn and big names like Tommy Bahamas, etc. 10 of my cloths were sold quickly but my credit/payout extremely low for the product. They sold a Tommy Bahamas long dress floral against black, for $52.99 and I received a credit for $16.86 (31.8%). I get that the items become labor intensive as the dress has to be photographed and listed, but the listings/descriptions of the dress are virtually nothing. Most of the cloths look wrinkled out of the box from shipping which does not give them a good look for selling. Of 10 items sold my credit was a total of $39.00. Now I needed to get rid of these cloths and didn't have time to put on other websites like EBay, Poshmark. So I like the idea of cleaning out my closet of stuff I wasn't wearing nor ever wore. And I liked it was eco green. However, disappointing process and credit for a website I doubt I will buy from. I didn't also realize you do not get cash but a credit to buy from their website which I am not interested in. So in the future, I'd rather give to Good Will and take the full credit deduction for my taxes. Sharing for the next person to make a better decision on whether to do or not. Attached are photos of the items I sent in so you can see the quality.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
