I made a mistake in one of two bookings and I called the very next day to change something and they stil made me pay 420 dollars for a change of date.
Had a terrible experience with TAP Portugal, as a United Premier 1K (star alliance Gold) I was happy to take on their advise to extend a layover in Portugal from London England to Montreal, we had booked our tickets a while back but 5 days before our flight I called their customer service to ask if we could be moved to an Earlier flight from London to Lisbon to have a few more hours in their country, the lady was kind and made the change, never said anything about fees. Following day I had to call back to get the new confirmed itineraries that never arrived by email, spent almost 2 hours on the phone, upon a call back check they confirmed that the agent had made a mistake by not warning me of a penalty and I still had to pay now if I wanted to use my tickets with them, they were charging me $2800 USD. The man who called himself Josh was helpless and would only raise his voice to corner me into making a decision. I finally gave up and hung up as I refused to pay TAP anymore money. I found a one way ticket out of London to Montreal for $1200 for all three of us (my wife and daughter) I still think I was lucky to find such a good deal less than 4 days prior to traveling. TAP stole us, insulted us.

Charged for seat assignments without warning and didn't receive seats. This should be illegal, since I did not ask for seats and there was no indication that I would be charged $120 for seat assignments. I am traveling for cancer treatment (stage IV) and I can't afford any trick or surprise charges or bills from anywhere.

Even by making sure I remove all the extra possible charges, I was still charged an extra $50

Answer: Yes. They stated because of flight increase they canceled my flights. Then they wanted me to pay a balance of what the new increase was. So disappointing. I paid for four fares. They took the funds from the bank n then canceled my flights.
