I've rented from Sixt in 4 European countries. They have always had great customer service, user-friendly website, great availability of vehicles and a low price. Most recently in Italy, Sixt contacted me afterward with a damage claim on the vehicle I rented. Their email contained a report which had pictures of the vehicle with severe damage to half of the right-front fender. This damage did not exist when I returned the vehicle as neither the in-person Sixt rep nor I noticed it (the damage is the picture is so severe that we could not have missed it). The Sixt report is also signed by a female whereas a male rep assisted with the return process. I disputed the damage claim with Sixt. Their response said they cannot trust their customers to tell the truth and without pictures as proof, they assume customers are lying to them. They have threatened a lawsuit against me. Beware of renting from Sixt. There is a reason their prices are so low. They will charge you 4x the rental fee later on phony damage claim. Read other online reviews as they do this with a lot of Americans renting vehicles in Europe.
I had a car of theirs for 10 days ($1500 in charges). During the rental I turned the light switch and it fell off. They are trying to charge me hundreds of dollars for this repair. I'm seeking support from the BBB and local government offices. It's literally the most insane thing I've ever experienced, despite renting hundreds of cars from other companies.
This company doesn't even deserve one star. I am trying to cancel a reservation and they want to charge a penalty of more than half of what I paid. I am trying to cancel with enough time and I'm being told that since I already paid, I cant get my money back. The penalty fee is not reasonable, people travel every day, is not like they won't be able to rent the vehicle again. I'm trying to cancel 15 days prior to the date of the reservation. This is the worst company. Also, I called three times and requested a speaking spanish representative and I was told that they don have one. The customer service is POOR. I do not recommend this company.
The agent in LAX charged my card that I used for the 1st car, without permission and for a ridiculous price I hadn't agreed on. They stored this card details on their database. I wanted to book a 2nd car 2 days later. The price quoted by him was ~USD1700. I agreed on that but no permission was given to initiate any charge. I was in fact planning to use another card for this 2nd booking. Seconds later, I received a SMS from my bank. ~USD3200 was charged.
The chap said it was because of the tax, insurance and what not. I specifically asked him how much I be charged as the final amount and ~USD1700 was what he said. I disputed immediately and got my car from ALAMO. I had to call my bank immediately and report the transaction which cost me USD100 in roaming charges. Talked to the manager too. No help as he said the funds would be returned in max of 14days. But hell I needed those credits for the remaining days of my vacation.
Best to avoid SIXT. Bunch of tricksters. If I had not received the message from the bank, I wouldn't have known this fraud. Go for ALAMO instead. They are transparent and the invoice is given to you immediately even before you collect the car. These SIXT fraudsters are sly.
They people are scum. Rented a piece of crap car that was all beat up. Nobody checked the car in on return; 3 weeks later they sent me a $400 bill for "repairs". Fraudsters!
Got a car from them August 2022, unfortunately took the gas plan and sadly didn't use the gas. My returning the car with a full tank was my fault, them not helping their customer out and making an exception to refund the fee for the gas they didn't have to replenish leave me with a bad feeling about them and not wanting to ever use them again.
They offer teaser rates on "premium vehicles." The problem is they don't tell you about all the add on charges. $15/day for an extra driver (to photocopy their driver's license?) $4/day "customer facility charge." Totally bogus. $58.96 for "O5", whatever the hell that is. "AP Concession Recovery Fee" $61.91. WTAF is that? So, a $54.19/day rental rate turned into $102.93/day. Even after "prepaying" for the rental a month in advance, I got stuck with an additional bill at the end due to all the hidden charges. Avoid this company like the plague.
Rented from them in July for five days. Two months later get a email saying there was damages to the car. Trying to get almost $600 Out of us. Worst car rental place ever. Do not use this company.
Stay away from this dishonest company.
I rented a car for 24 hours, paid the fee when I picked it up. As is usual, they ask for approval to hold a deposit on the credit card, which I did not question at the time. I did not know that Sixt actually takes the money off your card, so now I have effectively paid $500 to rent a car for a single day. I returned the car on time, with a full tank of gas and no damage whatsoever.
They tell me I will get my refund within the next two weeks.
I am now waiting, and must pay the balance on my credit card, while these criminals have my money.
It was the worst experience ever i came from united state to germany i took the car from the office the guy was not respectful he was rude and he said I don't give the car for Veiled girl with Hijab he was ver Racist i had to take the car then he gave me the keys and told me to go to the back yard to take it. Oh my god guys just look to the email they sent to me
SCAM unprofessional
I rent a car in airport in Los Angeles. They charge additional fees, which were not included in their initial offer. This company is dishonest and I recommend to avoid them, everywhere in the world. They don't answer for complaints. I made reservation in September, paid 1004$ and when I picked up a car in October, they gave me to sign agreement and invoice for 1274$. During pickuping car I didn't know about it but next day I was very suprised seeing on ma credit card account additional 270$ less. They charge credit card very high commissions for highways and similar payments. It was my mistake to believe them and signing agreement late evening and after many hours of flight. I had another „good" option not to rent car from Sixt and look for another honest rental in the middle of the night or spend night at the airport. I feel robbed and cheated. At first sight they make a good impression and in next step catch you and get out of money. This is their true business model and don't be deluded by „At Sixt customer satisfaction is our ultimate goal. This is why we are always available at your convenience for any questions or concerns you may have."
I warn everybody not to rent anything from them.

I rented a car from Sixt for a 26 day trip through the southwest US. I opted for the pre-paid price for its obvious lower cost. Unfortunately, I had a medical issue half-way through the trip and had to return home. I was assuming that I'd receive a credit for the unused portion of the rental. The Sixt agent at the Phoenix airport informed me that there are no refunds on pre-paid rentals. He did say that i could try to get some amount back by calling the customer service group and pleading my case. I opened a request through Sixt customer service but to no avail. And then I noticed a $3.37 unknown charge from SIxt on my Visa statement! Salt in the wound. Sixt finally removed this charge after 30 minutes on hold. There is a section in the 'fine print' contract that states this 'no refund on pre-paid rentals' policy. My fault for not reading the multiple pages of fine print. So this is a warning to any Sixt car or truck renters: If you opt for the lower cost pre-paid option, you will not see any refund if you return the vehicle early. My 'loss' was in excess of $600. Caveat emptor.
I booked a Sixt Rental Car via Expedia on our trip to Maui. I thought it was a pretty good deal at just over $400 for 5 days. Boy was I wrong! When we arrived at Sixt, we were on 2 hours of sleep after a 6 hour plane ride (I can't sleep on airplanes). We were so tired that when the guy handed us the key and pointed out the car we didn't even question when the keys he gave us opened the car 2 cars away from the one he told me was mine. They also didn't inspect the outgoing car. We didn't buy their insurance as we have our own. When we got the car, it was all dented up. That should have given me a clue, but again I was nearly incoherent from lack of sleep. We had a wonderful trip on Maui and did not get into any accidents, so when we returned the car we were shocked to see the Sixt employee point out a "new" dent. I was gobsmacked! I told them that we did not hit anything. But we had to catch our flight and left. I received an email about the "incident." Of course, I had no recourse because it was my word against theirs. Later I got an email saying that we owe $425.75 for repairs but in the small print it said that they could not guarantee the car would be repaired and that this might not be the "final payment." I know that the car was not damaged while we had it. And it is a costly lesson. ALWAYS take detailed photos of the car when you rent it so you have proof later. And NEVER use Sixt Rent a Car.
My wife and I rented a car from Sixt in Larnaca airport (Cyprus) on October 18,2022 for 2 days (42 hours). There were several issues with this Car Rental Agency which makes us not to ever rent a car from them again:
1- Car was too expensive (167.83 Euro for 2 days for a basic model) so we expected a good car and a good service.
2- There was no cancelation and no refund after I finished my booking (later, I found a much cheaper alternative but I could not cancel my booking with Sixt).
3- When we landed at the airport and wanted to pickup the car, they charged us an extra 16 Euro to give us a slightly different model (which I never asked for).
4- There was a charge of 17 Euro for the GPS system included in my booking but they didn't have a car with GPS so they gave me a micky mousy outdated and small portable GPS which I could buy for less than 15 Euro myself. The GPS was a disaster and so outdated that we could not find most of the places we wanted to visit. It was a potential danger to our trip as well since once it guided us to a one-way street (apparently turned to a one-way street a couple of years ago but this GPS would show it as a 2-way street) and we almost got into an accident.
5- When we were picking up the car, we were tired and I didn't know how to use this GPS, so I asked the agent to enter our hotel address but she was so careless that she entered a wrong address. After about 20 Km on a HW, we realized it's a wrong address so I had to pull over the shoulder in a dangerous situation to enter the correct address.
6- All insurances were supposed to be included (Loss damage waiver, Third party insurance, Theft protection), but at the time of pickup, the agent tried to push me to pay an extra 56 Euro for tire insurance and when I denied, she blocked 900 Euro from my credit card for 10 days after the return.
For all these reasons, I'm very disappointed with Sixt Rent a Car and never recommend them to anybody.
I rent cars frequently for long periods of time for business. I just discovered Sixt in Denmark, and had a good experience.
A month ago I rented a car from them at their LAX location. I returned the car at 2:30PM on Saturday. Their inspector checked the car in and out carefully, and told me that it was OK. At 1AM on Sunday I got a message from Sixt stating hat there was a MAJOR DAMAGE to the car. All Sunday morning I tried to call Sixt, but could not talk to a human being. Finally I drove to the rental location, and fortunately the car was still in the lot. I checked again with one of their very kind and helpful associate, and she also confirmed, that there was nothing wrong with the car. I took a lot of pictures poving that the car had NO DAMAGE to it, other than the ones that were already noted. I hoped that on Monday I can clear up the issue withtheir Claims Department. On Monday morning, 2 AM, I got a nasty message from Sixt, claming that I refused to cooperate, and asked me to fill out some online forms. Monday morning I spent SEVERAL HOURS before I was able to talk with someone at claims, who told me that the case was closed. Never admiting that they made a mistake, never apologising. Unfortunately they have my CC number, but if they make any additional charges I'll take the issue to my CC company, the BBB, and Consumer Affairs.
DO NOT EVER RENT FROM SIXT!
After the review was out, Sixt contacted me and refunded the concerned overcharge. It seems writing review is useful.
I collected my car in Paris at around 1100 hrs on Day 1 and the rental rate is of course counted on day (every 24 hrs) basis. I inputted my return timing as 0600 hrs on the last day in Bordeaux as catching the flight but in natural sense I was allowed to return it by 1100 hrs something that day without incurring any extra day rental. This is my understanding from many major car rental companies.
It was due to heavy traffic, I could not return it on time but after 0800 hrs, still it was within the same 24 hrs cycle However, Sixt charged me a late return fee of 14,4 € as without informed them of this delay...
It was non-sense and very disappointed. Bye, Sixt.
Rented a vehicle from Ft Myers airport. After driving for 30 min noticed that vehicle has hardly any brakes and makes loud noises. Called customer service and got hang up twice asking for a vehicle replacement. Finally called a emergency number and told them that vehicle is inop and is not operational gentleman name Ed ordered vehicle replacement roadside assistance-5 HRS later still don't have my car and keep on getting text messages every 90 minutes that my new vehicle will arrive in 20 min. Don't know what do to anymore. Never again SIXT!
I will never rent a car from this shady business again. When we picked up the car, they never did an inspection. So I was very surprised that when we dropped it off, the guy walked around and said that there was a lot of damage to the front of the vehicle. We had only driven the car to and from the local university for Parent Weekend and had parked in the hotel and school covered garage. I questioned how he would think that I had cause the damages to the car when there was no inspection done when I picked up the vehicle. I asked him to note on the paperwork that I didn't cause the damage. He told me not to worry and to just sign off on the ipad. While waiting in line for the shuttle back to the airport, I received my email receipt where it said that I had agreed to the damages claimed by the employee. I immediately went back to speak to the manager where he said there was nothing he could do. He said that I should be receiving a call or email about the damages and I can just refute it? Well, I'm reading some of the reviews and it looks like this isn't the first time they have done something like this where they charged another customer $800 4 months later for a supposed dent in one of the rims. After 30 minutes of standing in line with 30 other customers, the shuttle bus finally arrived for us to be told the bus driver is going on lunch break and to wait for another shuttle bus. We didn't want to take a chance of being late to our flight so we had to pay $16 for an Uber. Even if we had waited for the next shuttle bus, the small shuttle wouldn't have fit all of us in the vehicle. I have rented multiple vehicles from all the major car rental companies and I have never had to deal with this type of unscrupulous business practice of lying to the customer. Not to mention the lack of service with the infrequent shuttle bus.
I rented a car from Sixt for $211 for six days. At the time I rented it, they did not tell me they were sending a text saying that I should inspect the car for damage before leaving their facility. When I read the text at home, it included a list of damages already on the car. I had the feeling I was being set-up for a false claim, which is exactly what happened.
Two days after returning the car, Sixt sent pictures of additional damage including two scratches (down to the primer). I found it strange that two similar scratches occurred on opposite sides. Evidently, they listed the prior damage, didn't tell me to inspect the car, and then - as predicted - they found additional damage on the returned car for which I am liable.
I checked their reviews on line and many reflected this premeditated attempt at cheating customers. Some people lost quite a bit of money, called them crooks, and many reviews were rated the minimum stars.

Answer: They don't hire enough customer service staff. After an unhappy rental with them I started reading reviews and found nothing good, Never again.
Answer: Don't have one! Success story doesn't exist. The only success was on their end screwing me out of $300... duh
Answer: No cars available in Vegas. It's crazy. My dad wanted to go but no cars. Learn a lesson, only go to reputable rental agencies
Answer: Impossible. I waited on hold for 3 hours only to be told that they would not do anything to address my request. There are plenty of car rental companies. Pick another one,
