On SmartCustomer, businesses may not offer incentives or pay to remove reviews. Read more about our Review Guidelines and the process we have against fake reviews.
Sittercity has 147 customer reviews and ranks 51st in the Childcare category. Common review topics include customer service, sitter city.
This is my experience. I hope yours is different. When I researched online I happened upon SitterCity. I was excited to sign up and looking forward to having someone reliable babysit my 5-year-old son. There were a number of sitters with 4 or 5 out of 5 stars. I signed up and commenced to reaching out to them. Every single one replied to my message letting me know they were already working with other families. Those that reached out to me after this had no stars and no reviews. I contacted SitterCity to request a refund as the site, I feel, entices parents with pictures of sitters with high reviews but, when contacted, no availability. I do not feel comfortable allowing someone into my home to watch my child without others sharing their experience with them. One way to help parents is to add a tab so that if the sitter is already committed to another family this will be known before even reaching out to them. When I reached out to SitterCity she said since I had contacted the sitters I could not receive a refund. How would I know they were unavailable unless I contacted them? The representative also said background checks are available for all since I was concerned about those with no reviews entering my home and caring for my child. There are 600 people where I work. All of us had to pass a background check, but over the years a number of them have been terminated for stealing, fighting, etc. Since I was told a refund is not possible, I will consider this a $156 donation to SitterCity. Take good care and always be cautious.
P.S. The site is asking for a proof of purchase, but my receipt is being rejected because it is not JPEG, etc.

SITTERCITY.com is such a mediocre company. I'd recommend CARE.com for all of your care needs. More about SITTERCITY.com… After I read everything that the company offered on their website… I decided to subscribe due to the basic membership not offering much. After paying for the subscription, I was HIGHLY disappointed within the first five minutes and tried to cancel. This is the response I received days later, " While we do not offer refunds, as stated on the purchase page and your receipt, your Premium Membership has been set to not renew, so you will not be charged moving forward." The website and everything they stand for is MEDIOCRE, what a scam. This company has no morals, ethics or company values. I wish I would have checked out their low reviews prior checking out their website.

We joined sittercity and paid the subscription fee of $40/ month in order to find a nanny. Many of the sitters either didn't respond, said they were no longer working as sitters, or were booked up completely. Our description of the ideal candidate was detailed with thorough info and I don't think we asked too much. We were also flexible with pay. Basically the site is outdated and doesn't do a great job with matches. We spoke with support and they were rude, curt, and basically said we were paying just to be on the site but they didn't offer any inclination that we would be successful. No value found and with the crappy customer service it was a no brainer that we cut this service so quick. We wanted a refund- but I guess that isn't possible. They lost our business.
Hi Danielle!
We're sorry to hear about your experience with our site. The sitters on the site are not our employees and they independently network on our site. Depending on the location and timing, sitters can be more or less active and it's ultimately up to each individual sitter to decide whether or not they would like to respond. However, we absolutely do stress the importance of (timely) responsiveness and professionalism to all of the sitters on the site.
If you ever need any assistance managing your account or navigating the site, please reach out to our Customer Success Team at [email protected] or give us a call at 888.SIT.CITY (888.748.2489). Please note our phone lines are open Monday thru Friday, 8am-4pm CST. We're here to help!
This website has the worst sitters and childcare in the city. They don't have integrity and treat their sitters with no integrity as well. There are much better childcare websites in Charlotte much better.
Thanks for taking heed. This is for you and your children's benefit.
Hi Kendra!

Sittercity got me the job I currently have now, so from that perspective I really can't complain. Since I acquired that job, I've had 5 other people reach out to me asking for my services which was awesome! I will say though, before all that, I applied to about 4 jobs and never got a response. I feel that you almost have to wait for a parent to reach out to you instead of applying for the job yourself which sounds a little backwards but that was my experience. Babysitters and nannies are in high demand right now, so don't sell yourself short by asking for only 8-10 dollars an hour. You're worth more than that, and most parents on Sittercity offer more than that :) Also, there are several posts on Sittercity that ask for you to be CPR certified. They are usually higher paying jobs so I'd recommend getting it done! I did it and it was just 4 hours of an evening. I think that wraps it up. Sittercity is really a great service! Give it a try :)
Hi Cecily!
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback! We are happy to see you are enjoying Sittercity!
We prefer Care.com. Many more applicants and easier to search. We never met anyone, much less hired them, from Sittercity.
Sittercity charges you a monthly fee of $35, never emailing you to tell you you are going to be charged, so if you don't cancel, you will get a monthly charge on your credit card with no notice from Sittercity. It should be illegal to charge a monthly fee without an email from Sittercity with a statement. I requested a refund, and they gave me back a third of what they charged me. Very disappointing.

All of our Premium Membership subscription plans automatically renew unless canceled in order to avoid disruptions, as we’ve found that most families prefer to have ongoing access to message local sitters. Our auto-renewing membership policy is stated on the sign-up page upon checkout and in our Terms of Use.

There is no accountability. If you take the time to book a babysitter then they call or text at night to say I'm sick with no notice. There needs to be something attached to they're profile that says I've canceled a job or called out sick this amount of times. I actually do all the hard work to go to work.
Hey there! Thanks for your feedback! When there is an issue with a caregiver, we typically add a note to their account. If they continue to no-show, we will remove them. Parents are able to write reviews for caregivers as well. If you need any assistance, please contact our Customer Success Team at [email protected]. We're here to help!
I am an experienced nanny and now daycare teacher. I was hoping to continue weekend sitting BUT this platform is not organized. I would not recommend.
Hey there! Thanks for your feedback! We're really sorry to hear that you had difficulties with our site. Please contact our customer success team at [email protected] so we can assist you further. We look forward to connecting with you soon!
I paid $39 to upload a job - that zero applicants applied to. I reached out to the very very few people in the area, and got only two no responses.
I think it is totally unethical to charge people for jobs in geographic areas the business clearly is not up and running in. I will be reporting this to the better business bureau as well.
DON'T USE THIS CRAP SITE.
Hi Barbara! Thanks for your feedback! We're very sorry to hear that you have not had success while using our site. Because Sittercity is simply an online meeting venue for families to connect with independent sitters in their area, we cannot provide any guarantees.

There are ways to search and filter through the caregivers on the platform. We would be more than happy to assist you in doing so! Please reach out to our Customer Success team at [email protected]! Hope to hear from you soon!
I signed up to be a sitter and all of a sudden I couldn't log in. I contacted support and they said my account had been suspended. They wouldn't tell me why. I moved to another state and created another account because I did nothing wrong the first time. All of a sudden I can't log in and my account suspended and they once again will not give me a reason as to why. I never had any reviews so it was nothing from that and they will absolutely not tell me what I did wrong. Very sad as I have 14 years professional experience and am very good at my job.
Hi Savanna, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We take the trust and safety of our users very seriously, and our trust and safety team is always monitoring the site. Members are removed from our platform for one of three reasons: They are found to be under 18 years old. They failed an identity authentication or background check, or they are no longer eligible to be on our site based on our Terms of Use. We encourage you to review our Terms of Use here: sittercity.com/terms
I have been with Sittercity for 7 yrs. I have never had any problems. Just my background check a little slow. I have excellent reviews from parents. I love that I can provide childcare to families and get to know the children I take care of. The company's specialist's always help me and are courteous and professional. Communication is key when working with families. So far so good! I will remain a Nanny/Babysitter on Sittercity!
Hi there! Thanks for your positive feedback! We apologize for the delay in the background check. Sometimes some reports are held up due to relays in the court system. If you experience this again, please feel free to reach back out to us for assistance at [email protected]. Thank you for helping our families with your services!
Everyone is writing bad reviews because they paid for a membership & was auto billed... that's usually how it works though, so umm who's fault is this? I've only been on for a day and a half and was already contacted. Maybe your credentials just don't match what the family is looking for. Don't blame the site for auto billing subscriptions & calling the sitters here "fake" or "thugs". Some of us are real & passionate about helping people. If you get so worked up about not getting a call back, then I sure as sugar wouldn't want my child or parent in your care! Not even my dogs! Take a chill pill & just be patient. Good things come to those who wait & whatever doesn't work out just might not have been for you. Good luck!
Hi Amanda! Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback! We are happy to see you are enjoying Sittercity!
I am a 31 year old child care professional. I paid for and recieved a cleared background check through SitterCity. The only thing on my background is ONE speeding ticket in 2017.
I found and still work for two families from this site.
I went to log in and was not able to. I contacted customer service who informed me I was removed from the site.
The only reason they gave was that it was one of the following 3 reasons.
-I'm under 18
-I failed a background check
-I'm no longer eligible to use the platform by reason of "terms&services"
I contacted support via telephone and was told the same thing, and when I requested a supervisor or someone with more information, the agent refused. I requested a supervisor 8 times and each time the agent refused.
So I'm removed from the platform without reason, and no further information can be provided about that. This affects my only source of income, my livelihood.
If a claim has been made against a person, they are to be informed, not just removed without reason.
Is there something happening with my name I need to be aware of? I don't know, since no information was provided!
Seems very fraudulent to me.

In 2013, we needed a backup to our regular sitter and used the service once. It's now 2021 and discovered they have been charging fees ever since, $2240 over that time! The fine print of their contract allows them to start charging a quarterly fee on an auto renewal and if I hadn't questioned my wife why we are still paying for babysitting years after needing the service, they would have kept charging us in perpetuity. Biggest Scam I've ever seen. Never once did they both to ask why we are paying for a service we don't use. Totally disreputable.
Hey Andrew! It appears that you subscribed for our Premium Membership subscription. Just like a gym membership or a Netflix subscription, all of our Premium Membership subscription plans automatically renew unless canceled, as we’ve found that most families prefer to have ongoing access to message, interview and book local sitters. Our auto-renewing membership policy is stated on the sign-up page upon checkout, on your receipt and in our Terms of Use. However, we would like to look further into this. Please contact us at [email protected].
This feels as close to a scam as a legitimate business can be. The content promises just don't match up with the actual experience. Add the outrageous cost, terrible customer service, and impossible-to-use features and you have a losing combination. Save your money and time. There are better options available.
Hi Austin! We're very sorry to hear that you have not had success while using our site. Do not register with this company or pay them a dime. It's a total scam. They will take your money and not be able to deliver what they promise. They also do not require sitters to be vaccinated. They should be forced to close. It's that bad.
Hi Laurie! Thank you for providing your feedback. Sorry to hear about your disappointment in your membership.
As we mentioned in our previous communications, each sitter is considered an independent/ sole provider. Because of this, we do not require them to show proof of any vaccination or personal health information. Families that choose to hire a sitter have the right to require proof of vaccination. Sitters also have the right to share or not share vaccination records. It's completely up to them. If a sitter chooses not to share, the families does not have to hire them.
We provide our families 3 different Premium Membership options to fit their needs (Monthly, Quarterly, and Annually). Families can cancel their subscriptions at any time. We also have a Basic Membership (free) that allows you to browse our website, post a job, and search for sitters to ensure it is a good fit before you upgrade your account.
We wish you all the best in your search for child care!
You are asking for head ache dealing with these people and customer service will mock u after a review.
Hi Desiree, please feel free to contact Customer Success at [email protected] to discuss your refund and your account further. Thank you.
Cheat company, wants to make money off of peoples mistakes. Thugs as well, don't want to refund even when I called them 2 hours later after registering saying I was looking for nanny lane and you spammed me into thinking you are nanny lane. These guys guaranteed themselves bad reviews and a credit card dispute and loss of credibility. All for mere $35.
Hi Veronica, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I'm sorry to hear about your disappointment with your membership on Sittercity. We are unsure how we may have spammed you into thinking we are a different website, as our website is branded as Sittercity. Please feel free to reach out to Customer Success at [email protected] if you would like to discuss anything further.
I attempted to log into SitterCity after not using my account for over two years, becauseI had found a good sitter, and wanted to reactivate my account. I recieved an error on my password so I reset it. Congratulations, your password has been reset. Tried to log in. Nothing. Customer service sends me a generic response that my account may have been deactivated. Why?
"My apologies. To clarify, we have removed your Sittercity parent account from our platform. Because of this, you are not eligible for membership with the site.
There are three reasons an account would be removed from our platform:
Activity appears similar to common scams
Suspected of unacceptable behavior
Violation of our Terms of Use
Thank you for the feedback."
I respond with.
Thats not very clear... so what was it? What did I do to be removed?
I then create an account with another email.
Response. Your refund is being processed. I was removed from the site on that account too and had to cancel my plans because I cant find a sitter.
Thanks, Sitter City!
Hi Paul, unfortunately once an account has been removed from our platform you are no longer eligible for membership moving forward, even if you create another account with us. We encourage you to review our Terms of Use. We wish you luck in your future childcare search.
I've been on Sittercity now for years. Recently I updated my profile and started receiving more responses to my applications. I found my current nanny job through Sittercity! I still use the app to find occasional babysitting jobs and usually I have no issues. I agreed to do a last minute sitting job yesterday from someone I found on Sittercity. I was suppose to work 8 hours at a rate of
$15/hr. I went to the location and babysat for 10 hours instead of 8, so I was owed a total of $150 for my service. The mom returned and asked that I meet her in the apartment lobby so I did, but once I got down there she was already on her way back up to her apartment. I asked her to cash app me my pay which she pretended to do. I never received my money! I depended on that money to get home and could've been lefted stranded! I've reported this to Sittercity and hopefully this can be taken care of! Sitters should be allowed to review and warn other sitters about patents who don't pay or are looking to scam!
Hi Jaleesa, we're very sorry to hear of this experience. At Sittercity, we know nothing is more important than how you’re treated as a child care professional. You did the right thing by reporting this to our team. Our Trust and Safety team will review the information provided and take the appropriate next steps.
Hi Shana!
We're sorry to hear that you didn't successfully find the right caregiver for your family. Because Sittercity is simply an online meeting venue for families to connect with independent sitters in their area, we cannot provide any guarantees. The sitters on the site are not our employees and they independently network on our site. We leave it up to them to consistently update their profiles. Depending on the location and timing, sitters can be more or less active and it's ultimately up to each individual sitter to decide whether or not they would like to respond. However, we absolutely do stress the importance of (timely) responsiveness and professionalism to all of the sitters on the site.
When a caregiver creates an account with us, we verify their identity before they are allowed to use the site. Sitters and parents have the opportunity to purchase background checks. We do suggest interviewing applicants you are interested in before requesting a background check. It is up to the parent's discretion for hiring a sitter as they work independently on our site.
