I have Ordered a lot of parts from rock auto, some parts look like they were peoples returns with broken box and dirty. Shipping is always late when you really need the parts. I reported them to BBB and they claim that I was lying, parts not getting delivered according to website. I explained to BBB that we pay for shipping it's not free. To all the customers that have complaints report to BBB let's get this company to reimburse for those shining charges on items not delivered on time.
I wrote this for rockauto but there was no way to send to them.
I will never, ever order from you again. You sent a 30 pound or heavier battery to me in a very flimsy cardboard box, the kind that might be used with cereal at best. It was packed with AIRBAGS, not even bubble wrap or Styrofoam. The battery fell out of the box when I lifted it! See the photos, attached. It spent days in Stockton CA, because it seems fed express put it on a truck, then sent it back to Stockton, presumably for inspection, then put it back on the truck. This caused me more days without a car! Besides feeling bad for me, you should really feel bad for the airbag packing, because it never had a chance! I have not even installed the battery yet, because I am not sure it is even safe to use, after your preposterous shipping practices. Goodbye Rock Auto, unless we need to do more business because the battery is actually damaged, as I will soon find out.
I have bought many parts from rock auto for all kinds of vehicles ranging from 1980 f150 to late model vehicles. Never had any problems. I am a line tech at a large dealership and most of the problems people have seems to relate to personal error ordering the wrong part or damage occurred during shipping. This is not the rock autos fault. Know what you are ordering before clicking and paying. If you are trying to get by on the cheap and do it yourself. Do your homework. For example many vehicles of the same make and model will have different brakes due to tow package, engine size and other factors. Don't guess and then blame when the wrong parts show up. Better yet take your vehicle to a competent shop if you are incompetent.
I simply ordered a part that did not fit. I paid for the label and delivery sent the part back in its original box not damaged with a receipt provided by rock auto and before the 30 day return policy. This company took it upon they self to close my ticket kept my part and money. I sent proof and was totally ignored. And NO CUSTOMER SERVICE! Everything is done by email makes it even worse because this company clearly can't read an email.
I ordered a part to Canada (which I've done MANY times before). RockAuto shipped it via DHL and it didn't even get out of the US and DHL decided they didn't like my package and shipped it back to RockAuto. Now RockAuto refuses to refund my money and they have no way to contact anyone in person.
DHL refuses to tell me why my package was returned and RockAuto won't even pick up the phone.
This is out right criminal activity and they should be shut down and investigated to see how much money they've stolen from people.
So I ordered a part on 11/18/22 and was told it will be there on 11/22/22. So I called the shop on the 22nd to see if the part came in and it didn't. So I called Rockauto to see what's the hold up. I was told it will come on the 25th. No courtesy call no explanation NOTHING. Then on the night of the 22nd I received a tracking number so I type in the tracking number on the UPS website and it's going to be sent to my billing address that's no where near the shop that my car is at. So now I'm stuck without a car for the holidays because I can no longer rent a car because their all out. So now I'm stuck with no answers because this place is a dumpster fire and the saff isn't professional at all for Thanksgiving. And on top of that the shop where my car is at is charging extra for storage fees and you think RockAuto will give me a discount for my order? Nope! I call and call and get a voice-mail or they just hangup because they know they totally screwed me over at this point. Happy holidays to those who's reading this but take your business somewhere else this place sucks. Don't spend your money or your time here
Im sure most of the low reviews here are from fake competitors, Rock Auto has by far the best prices and more choices than you could ever ask for, fast shipping too, I have made dozens of purchases and never had an issue
I bought a replacement SKP oil pan from Rockauto. It fit fine but the crankshaft position sensor was not correctly located. Instead of an appropriate ~1mm gap to the gear, this pan created a ~0.5mm interference and the gear sawed the tip of the sensor in half. So, don't assume proper fit and function from any part they sell. They will not honor a warranty reimbursement without the product returned. Sometimes, after a customer spends 3 hours installing a part (and dumping $30 of oil into it), return is not an option. It is ridiculous to think that, instead of repairing the part myself, I would have to remove and return the part and be without a vehicle until I could find a reputable source for a conforming part.
Customer service did not solve my problem, bad parts sent and never replaced.
Auto rock send defected rotors.
Buyers beware this is a nightmare first package was damaged so they sent replacement part and it was damaged never received my package only way to get in touch thru email been four weeks still no package
Buyer beware. I ordered a starter. They shipped it to us. It looked older than the one that was in our car that we were replacing. We assumed it was refurbished so my husband installed it and it did not work. Had it tested and it did not work. Sent it back for a refund as we had to buy another one from another company. I received an email advising they would not be refunding me and basically accused me of sending them back a different old one.
Tell you other online places to take a hike. The others are slow.
These guys have what I needed fast.
I've bought rotors for years from here. This time was 2012 tundra clock spring. 50$ not 350 and works great
Thanks again
They don't honor their own return policy.
BS company, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. You have been warned!
They don't honor their own return policy.
Yep, paid $100+ to have a climate control module installed. 3 months later it stops working. I reach out and I am billed shipping to send new item and billed shipping to send faulty part back! Plus, stuck w $100 install cost of replacement module.
I reach out and they send me their corporate policy. I reach out again, they send same response, but in bold.
I bought a Mercedes radiator. The transmission fittings do not fit. I had to buy one locally to finish the job and forgot about it. Now I am trying to talk to them about it and there is not a way to communicate with them. The standard form is for getting a new one. I don't want another not fitting radiator. I want to exchange for a different part that I can use in any of my cars or a refund. Also in same order number *******, I bought the expansion tank and it came broken from factory. I am never buying from them again.
Well. Since it took me a few months to get around to putting my engine together after ordering the parts, I'M SCREWED! These idiots sent me the wrong rod bearings in the correct box.
Ok I just want to say I have been ordering from Rock Auto for years now. Have only really had a few issues, but this one really pisses me off. I'm restoring a 66 Charger and ordered upper ball joints. They arrived quickly. So I take out the first one looks good all hardware with it installed all good. Just want to say box P/N GK772 P/N on bag inside ZK772 no problem. Go to install the other side same marking but missing washer for castle nut and grease boot. Ok contact Rockauto get email next day part shipped. Get a whole new part 2 days later GREAT! Figure just use the boot and washer since I install the first ball joint boot is loose. Ok check new part no shoulder for the boot boot really loose. Contact Rockauto and by their question they determine no ones fault so lets split the difference and you pay to return. Are you kidding? I'll just go and pay for new one at Advance Auto will wind up only a few bucks more and I can inspect it at the counter. Think that they would ship the same part as the first if they are replacing it. Hell even the first two had differences.
I bought an alternator for my car from RockAuto on the first of June. By late October it had gone bad. The hoops you have to jump through to get a warranty replacement is exhausting AND the fact they DO NOT have a Customer Service phone line is frustrating. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PART FROM THEM! DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THEIR LOWER PRICES!
I've purchased from them several times before and was very satisfied with their products and service. However, this last time has been rather problematical. Ordered the part, used to correct numbers for the vehicle. Received shipment rather promptly, right part # on the box. (Water Pump for a 2002 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L) Part that's packed in the box is for completely different model. Now I understand mistakes happen. While very inconvenient as this sets things back a bunch, I'm pretty reasonable. I put in for return, it's accepted. But the return label won't print. Check printer, printer is working fine. Try several more times, still won't print label correctly.
So here's my problem with RockAuto. They have virtually no customer service. No one to contact to resolve problems other than than the automated on line CS. While I can forgive a mistake, their lack of ability to connect with their customers when mistakes happen have definitely created some trust issues for me. I would be very wary of ordering from them again and am now much less likely to recommend them.
This is one of those sites you need to pay attention to every little detail. This is a good site if you know what you are looking for and looking at its not as user friendly. There are things some people don't realize they need to look at for various parts.
-Brand- There are various brands and good amount of known ones to be reliable. If you don't know what is do research or ask someone who is a car mechanic. To many people go cheap cheap then they get what they pay for...
-Part # and details- Some parts are set-up differently and are made for different locations I.E. Left/Right, Front/Rear, Upper/Lower. Spark plugs will either be in the right depth or not you need to check. Just be careful of alternate parts sometimes they work sometimes they don't but if you are not sure stick to th OEM based models.
-Cross reference sites- Check with like auto zone of similar parts based on the part # and look at prices sometimes you can find better deals on part on amazon.
The thing about this site also it has pretty much every part for majority of vehicles so not every site is like that. I have years of experience when it comes to ordering parts and if you know the systems for doing so its not hard to do but if you are just fixing your own or a buddies vehicle and are not familar in ordering parts and use to going to the store yea you might mess up and not get what you wanted/needed.
The delivery with rockauto is not the greatest using Fedex and USPS which have a bad rep and it's mainly their fault for stuff being broken on delivery so would have to place most the blame on them.
The site works and is great value if you know what you are doing and looking for if not you are going get annoyed. I've gotten numerous parts from Rockauto over the years and they have worked as intended and still no problems so far. So some quick advice
-Don't go economic for most things because they won't last long stick with daily driver.
-Make sure the part you are getting matches the specs you need if not sure to look at ask someone who knows. Some people also don't know the full model of vehicles need to make sure of that because some differ in major ways
-Stick to the return deadline 30 days this is one of the companies that you have to also pay for the shipping of return. This is not amazon they don't make that kind of profit like them since they pretty much sell everything at factory price and that's hard to come by in online retail.
If you pay attention and do your due diligence on most of this you will get your bang for your buck if not it will be a headache for sure.
