Public Storage Reviews Reviews Summary

Public Storage's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, primarily due to steep and frequent price increases, inadequate customer service, and poor management responsiveness. Many customers report feeling neglected, with unresolved issues regarding billing and unit security leading to frustration. While some locations receive praise for their cleanliness and helpful staff, these positive experiences appear inconsistent. Overall, the feedback suggests a troubling trend of unprofessional practices and a lack of accountability, prompting customers to caution others about their experiences and consider alternative storage options.

Kindness of keke!
August 2, 2023

I want to thank Ms Keke for the understanding and updates of policy. Most of all I want to thank her for her smiling personality and kindness when ever she's here at work. No matter what that warm inviting smile is always present. Thanks for always being you.

Great Service
July 24, 2023

I recently rented a storage space at Public Storage Scotch Plains NJ and the service was great. Tammy helped me to relax while dealing with a stressful move. She was patient, calm and KIND! I've had to go and call the office a number of times and Tammy has always gone beyond her normal responsibilities to ensure that my needs were handled. Today ppl are generally not kind but proves this opinion wrong daily.

Minus 5 stars
July 21, 2023

I felt violated! I have used P.S. for over 20 years for my temporary storage needs. I've never had an issue until now. Like most Americans, having to deal with a lot more in life than we should have too. I'm a little late on my storage fee. First I had to block them from calling me on my cell phone, calling me all the time for what? By my 2 week they're blocked. I'm a little late, I'm thinking I'll take care of late fees- no problem. On 20th day I got an email saying my lock has been cut, my items inventoried and lein has been placed. I go today to pay most of my bill. I was charged for insurance. At the start I said no insurance. That was taken off. I was told I could still get charged $50 to remove the lein but wasn't on my account at the time.
There's a certain amount of privacy expected, and decency involved. I did leave a message a few days after the first to reassure that things would be taken care of, dealing with extra things like everyone else. I have no trust anymore for public storage and I will damage their reputation as much as I can! Because they violated my trust!

Moved in during a sale. Needed two small units. 1 month after the sale...They regretted to inform me that they had to raise the monthly rent. Total increase was $35.00/month

I moved out of both units on the 1st of the month. Horrible timing, I know, but I did ask for at least a small discount due to the full month being available to them to get them rented again.

No flexibility. No care nor empathy.

The best part was the phone call after I moved out. "Hey, wanted to let you know someone just cleaned you out of both your units"

Just be aware of what you're getting into. I had never used a storage facility before.

I am writing this review with a heavy heart as a loyal customer of Public Storage for nearly a decade. Over the years, I have never missed a payment and trusted Public Storage to keep my belongings safe. However, my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed and disrespected.

It has come to my attention that new customers are being charged significantly less than what I, as a long-term customer, am paying for a similar storage unit. This inequitable pricing policy is not only unfair but also shows a lack of appreciation for the loyalty and commitment I have shown to Public Storage.

When I reached out to customer service seeking an explanation or a fair solution, I was shocked to be presented with only one option: terminating my current contract, moving my belongings out, and renting a new storage unit at the lower rate available to new customers. This suggestion disregards the time and dedication I have invested in Public Storage, and it is an inconvenience that I should not have to endure.

As a company that prides itself on providing storage solutions, Public Storage should prioritize and value its long-term customers. Loyalty should be rewarded, not taken advantage of. It is disheartening to realize that my years of loyalty and consistent payments have not been acknowledged or reciprocated.

Public Storage's management should reconsider their pricing policy and treat long-term customers with the respect they deserve. Offering fair rates to loyal customers is not only the right thing to do but also a smart business practice. By prioritizing customer satisfaction and loyalty, Public Storage can build stronger relationships and maintain its reputation as a company that values its customers.

I sincerely hope that my concerns are heard and that Public Storage takes steps to rectify this situation. As much as I value my association with Public Storage, I am left with no choice but to explore alternative storage options if my loyalty continues to be disregarded.

In conclusion, I urge Public Storage to reflect on its treatment of long-term customers and take the necessary actions to rectify this unfair situation. Loyal customers should be appreciated and rewarded, not subjected to higher rates and inconveniences.

July 2, 2023

NO-ONE is ever there or ever answers the phone. And in order to talk to a person you have press one, which is to make a reservation then they transfer you to a phone that after 20 minutes you have to hang up because no one answers that. I didn't use use storage unit for 30 days ONLY 20 and yet NO ONE is talking about My refund, but they are sending me emails that my payment is due which is IMPOSSIBLE since I moved out on the 30th of June 1 pm in afternoon and I didn't moved I moved in on the 10th and paid in full on the 3rd because they said thats how its done. YOU WANT PEOPLES MONEY AND BUSINESS PLEASE ALWAYS DO THE RIGHT THING. NOW I HOPE SOMEONE WILL CONTACT ME! All this stress I don't need because I'm a very sick person. Thank you.

Rate increases
June 15, 2023

This company should be your very last resort the rates constantly go up last month my storage unit went up a shocking $64.00 of course when I called thinking there's gotta be a mistake for this large increase of course I couldn't get ahold of anyone so I just paid it so I wouldn't have to pay a late fee I didn't even get notified ahead of time I guess they figured they were screwing over so bad I didn't need prior notification. I would not advise my worst enemy to use this company total rip off

I am disabled and moving around is not easy. Public Storage has been increasing its pricing (I presume due to demand), but the increases don't make sense at all. How can you charge more for a small unit then a large unit when the space sq is nowhere equivalent. I get supply and demand and you want to push people out. But it's not like your prices for keeping the storages is increasing. You hire few people in each storage, the electricity bills don't fluctuate crazily, so it boils down to greediness. That ticks me off. Yes, I will move out as soon as I can, but I will make sure I leave every bad review I can from here to Timbuktu, because it is wrong. You can't even talk to customer service folks and corporate never answers. The works never have any answers because they are not decision makers. I used to think highly of PS. Not anymore.

Kumar was very helpful. Very professional. He broke down everything to us there. This is our first time getting storage with Public Storage. He helped us with access to our unit with our phones he also walked us to our storage unit just to show us exactly what to do. This location is definitely highly recommended from us.

Public storage has large shareholders. Vanguard, insiders. When you rent from public storage your rent starts going up. Their latest earnings has profit 10%. I have been with public storage, my rent started $250.00. Now almost $900.00 per month. I have interviewed other renters who say the same. I will be exiting public storage.

I had the worst experience at the 5624 Basswood Location!

You will be misinformed and then Duped to pay a balance and the manager will have no hesitation in admitting what they initially stated to you.
Only giving this a 1 because this is the lowest score it allow you to give.

Stay Away!

I went there today 4/28/23 because my rates also kept going up - been there 2 years and started at $70 / month now 5/1 they raised it to $131/month which is ridiculous
I went to change my place to a smaller unit at $62 / month and Jose was a total help
Thank you to him cause in all honesty upper management should be looked at for raising rates like this to good customers - its not right
Also they make you move all your stuff out to get a new unit - I wanted a 5x10 like I had - online rates are $65 / month where they are charging current customers double that - really pathetic like how hard up are you people?

I have rented a storage unit from this company when we became homeless 3 years ago. Our rent started at $197.00. We are still homeless 3 years later and they have raised our rent many times. Today I received a email that rent was going up another $130.00. It is now $492.00 a month for a unit. You would think long time renters would get a decrease rate instead of adding such a ridiculous rate. I'm so disappointed in this company. I have rented units and referred so many people through the years. I would not recommend this company.

I rented a unit in Columbia Md. I had to move to help care for my mother. I was settled in another state for about 4 months when I received notification that my monthly rent was going up $146 within another 6 months another $61! My rent went $207 in less than a year. They will not answer calls or emails. Don't rent from Public Storage
