The company has garnered a predominantly negative reputation, with customers frequently citing severe issues with customer service, including long hold times, unresponsive support, and rude representatives. Many reviews highlight repeated device failures leading to additional costs and significant inconvenience, such as vehicle lockouts and battery drain. While a few customers noted initial friendliness during the setup process, this sentiment quickly dissipated post-installation, with complaints about hidden fees and lack of resolution for ongoing problems. Overall, the feedback indicates a pressing need for improvements in customer support and device reliability to enhance customer satisfaction.

Absolutely garbage customer service, they jack their prices up for the fancy technology that isn't even required. They have so many different ways too steal extra money from you and they do so without remorse. Of course, the counties that promote them all know and get rich off of it themselves. Extortion at it's finest. Do your homework and find a better company before committing to Intoxalock. I hope they all go broke.
Update to my update--six months later (June 2023):
I would recommend THOROUGHLY researching other companies in addition to this one. The entire 7-month long experience (one month longer than it should have been due to "complications") has been nightmarish. The response team to poor reviews are able to salvage SOME of the experience, but not enough to warrant anything greater than a 1-star review.
In my time with Intoxalock, after experiencing theft of property from the shop that installed my device (an Intoxalock-partnered and -authorized auto shop), technical issues on multiple occasions that resulted in me being unduly charged, and severe incompetence in their compliance department that also resulted in inaccurate charges and a delay in having my device removed, an associate finally reached out to remedy the situation and reverse the charges. Excepting the stress and time required for me to manage and resolve these issues on my own, despite having spoken to multiple customer service reps over the course of WEEKS, the issues were FINALLY resolved.
I don't know that there is a better company out there, but I know this one was awful.
Update to initial review (Nov 2022): A supervisor reached out to me to explain that I likely worked with a new, less knowledgeable representative who might require more coaching. He did a great job working with me to adjust some of the charges and overages on my initial billing. He was also friendly, informative, and provided excellent customer service. Although, because of my original experience, I can't completely justify a 5-star rating, his remedying this situation has turned this experience around for me, and I'm glad to provide a 4-star rating and even recommend this company.
While the agent was very friendly, the initial information and quote she provided me was misleading. She quoted an installation that was up to $75-100 LESS expensive than what installation turned out to cost (and that doesn't even include the tax). Since I was price shopping, the ACTUAL installation cost was a shock and was upsetting. Since I assumed she was the professional, I did not expect I would have to call around to verify her quote was correct. However, at this point, I felt committed to stick with Intoxalock because I had already been charged a $30 "setup fee" before she could begin calling around for offers near me--a setup fee that I feel is also misleading as it simply serves as a fee to hook you in before they begin to research locations and actual pricing; had I known what that fee actually was, I could have knowingly done the work myself. Although I will give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she was provided with incorrect information on installation costs, I still feel swindled and largely dissatisfied with this company. The ONLY saving grace was a rebate offer she provided me (and I actually don't know if I will, in fact, get the rebate b/c I allegedly receive it from the installation shop, an appt which is scheduled for next week--so fingers crossed).
Due to a state computer glitch, I had to reinstall my device, this time I opted for Intoxalock over Smart Start strictly because they had a closer service center. HORRIBLE customer service, they add fees for everything, their equipment is shoddy and even the service center that removed my device three weeks later said the same thing. Paid extra fees to remove and reinstall with Smart Start. Avoid Intoxilock at all costs!
If I could give this place negative stars I would. The "customer service" agents are rude and have no idea what is going on. I have had nothing but trouble with this company, starting with reporting my case to the wrong county, then accusing me of doing something wrong, when the issue was their fault. This place is complete trash.
Zaps battery. I had to pay tow bill and for new battery. I was also charged 75.00 service fee because it ruined my battery and had to be towed. It is not an easy device to use. I am looking into switching companies.
Intoxalock has been the worst company I have ever dealt with in my entire adult life. Here are my major complaints: I was charged for accessories (a monthly fee for a warming sleeve) that I was not given; My calibration date was consistently every three weeks as opposed to every month; Lastly, I had to fight so hard and submit multiple complaints to get Intoxalock to approve the removal of the device. It is impossible to reach a customer service agent. The ONLY way to get an agent to address your concerns is to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I recommend everyone dealing with Intoxalock contact the BBB immediately. BBB.org
Hi I thought company was fair. I thought wrong
I don't even drink anymore, passed the alcohol class top of the class. This Intoxalot device claimed a violation this morning out of no where. I called Nancy was kinda rude would not tell me anything but go to the service center. That is un fair I work now need to chase made up problems from this dis-honest device and company. Now I need to appeal it in court when I DONT EVEN DRINK ANYMORE!
I'm going and I'm going to do my best to make other people who find themselves in this situation
CANT EVEN GET A WAY TO ADD ANOTHER VEHICLE.YOU THINK THEY WOULD WANT ANOTHER ON TO TAKE MONEY AND CONTINUE TO $#*! YOU
Went to nj DMV. DMV said I had wrong paperwork intoxalock sent copy different paper to DMV had to Uber back to installer to fill out and sign new paperwork ubered back to DMV only to be told paperwork still wasn't correct.took Uber home will continue tomorrow lost unpaid time plus Uber costs and still not finished intoxalock is not a good company find someone else also had unit 1 hr and already violation came up had to return to installer POS
Spent $2K for a new car battery because of this device. Car was towed two places because no one would work on it with this product. The second service center said they would work on it if I removed the device. They couldn't test the car because the device needed a charge - from the battery that needed to be replaced! Intoxalock told me the only alternative is to remove the device. To do that I needed to pay a huge fee. Had to also tow the car to the the place that put in the device. Once removed, drove the car back to the mechanic (because it was my son's car and he can't drive it without blowing into the device). Battery was installed and car fired right up-there was nothing else wrong with the car. Then drove the car from the mechanic to the other place to have the device reinstalled for another fee. Intoxalock instructed the company who installed and removed the device, they were to send it back to Intoxalock and we had to start all over. Mind you, there were a bunch of Uber rides in there since I can't drive two cars. Other devices have "override" features for car repairs, this company doesn't on purpose to charge you. Another thing you need to know, they farm out all their calls to a call center in another country. If you want to pay huge money and be on the phone with some dope for hours, this is your product.
This company charge too much worst company ever I had this on less a month it had 4 violation lock out
CROOKS...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY PERIOD!
I called to get quote and explained that I wanted to schedule appointment for later date which he said "just call me when you know". I gave my credit card info to start the process and he CHARGED my card. When I finally received the Lease Agreement 3 weeks later they charged me $50 no-show fee which I CANNOT get back. Secondly, they automatically sign you up for 3 extra fees...device protection plan $5.00, Sleeve lease fee. $1.08, and Roadside Assistance $4.00. ALL per month fees.
When you call with issues you become a pinball. Good luck if you go with these CROOKS
I don't know where to even start with this company not only a WEEK OF HELL its still on going. Have had the Intoxlock system in my car for over 7 years so I know how the system works. This company told me I needed a up grade and that it needed to be brought to the auto service center. That new equipment would be sent overnight. The appointment was made by them to bring in the very next day. And let me tell you this is Monday going on Tuesday. Something told me to call the auto center before I went to my appointment to see if equipment was there. Service guy checked and they had nothing. They placed the order a second time for the equipment to be delivered overnight. Now it's Wednesday call the service center to see if it was there nope. Wanted to talk to a manager. Was promised but definitely lied to that equipment will be there on Thursday. Nope called the service center on Thursday and no equipment. So at this point with no car for a week I definitely was looking for a different company. Needed to cancel my debit card and get a new one so charges couldn't be made on my card when I told them to remove it. I had enough BS for one week and still no equipment on Friday. If you go with this company you're a DAM FOOL!
The device always has issues that they "can't" see but know if you blow incorrectly. And customer service is absolutely the worst, never helpful and contradict what each other say and always hanging up on you.

I signed up for a one year contract and I wanted to pay for the whole year up front, so I wouldn't have to have them billing me or taking money out of my bank account. I paid $1,216.80.
8 months later and they are taking money out of my bank account and telling me I ran out of money. I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS!
I called them and they told me that they didn't bill me for all of the FEES AT ONCE... the fees are separate from leasing the device. Unless you cancel road side assistance and sleave fee... they will bill you for it. And you have to email them to cancel those fees. The sales person doesn't explain any fees or extras when you give them your credit card info. Once they have your card, they start charging you bi weekly.
I am very unhappy with Intoxiaock.
The sales person never explained any of the fees from state patrol or any of them.
I was led to believe that I was paid in full... and now I'am getting billed for fees i was never told about.
I have yet to find an interlock device company worth starting a service. I Really wouldn't trust this company. They seem legit but are really good about being vague or avoiding you/long wait times and fail to send reports you need as your waiting, even after just getting off the phone with them. I've been hung up on 3 times for what I perceive as asking too many questions, or because I called the party number of a representative who gave it to me and im guessing she was bothered I used it to contact her for help. After that phone call, she never answered my phone again. I called from my dads phone, she answered within a couple rings, realized it was me. She did help me, then never answered her phone off my dads number again.
There may be a misconception that service is bad because people are rude and mad they're being help responsible for drinking and driving. I bet its really common. However, there's a lot of people, who are truly doing better and fixing their mistakes, yet this company takes advantages of peoples situation. In my experience, even more so because I was polite and maybe a bit of a push over. Document every thing, ask them about every possible and recurring charge you'd be obligated to pay. Flip this company.
Worst company ever. They nickle and dime you for everything. Make it almost impossible not to get a "lockout" that costs over $80. Outsourced "customer service" are useless. Can't imagine how much money these idiots paid lobbyists to force people to install their product. Had it removed today. I recommend removing your name from your vehicle instead of installing it. Wish we had done that.
Well I'd love to know why I haven't gotten this removed yet. I've requested it at least twice. Have heard anything. Roadside assistance is just a fee. I'd say I've been price gouged. Charged for there broken machine. It's simply great if you want to have a wreck trying to blow in an overpriced breathalyzer.
Yeah I am so frustrated. They were suppose to send paperwork to TBS for removal. Took them 3 months and several calls. I had to make call to TBS to get removal initiated and they never emailed or sent me paperwork it was done and good. I ended up paying for three more months.
Answer: Legit company but they have shady business practices. Very dishonest
Answer: Sale man was very pushy and I was very panicked about loosing my license. He kept calling me after I told him I would give him a call back. No one in this company wants to help you, avoid them.
Answer: As far and I am concerned any of the other 4 State approved interlock companies would have been a step up.
Answer: No. They suck. They're parasites. They're not even very good at that. They're really more battery police than making sure people don't drive drunk. They also forgot that the people with their device are the paying customers. If you are bad to those that pay your bills, they're going to stop paying you.
Answer: Must get a court release once you have the new one in place
