I had to buy paint for our apartment reno and had a bunch of questions regarding paint for refinishing my kitchen cabinets. The staff were very patient and addressed all my questions.
My husband and I joke about how well our Home depot got to know us. Ordered many Items online, from another town, for pick up at a local store nearby a renovation we were doing on another home. Great service and always friendly helpful staff.
Again, depends on which shop you go to. Some places have very friendly people, some places have people who really know what they are talking about, and some places have neither! Next time I need a DIY project done I may just use the website instead of gambling on the in house service.
Just replaced the floors for my first floor they were so helpful and we even went through them for installation, couldn't be happier!

Got a call about a job, I'm all excited. Went in to get a grill and the website said they had it in store, they did but it was on the truck, went back the next day to pick up and said I really should be compensated for having to make a second trip. No questions asked he just gave me 10% off a pretty expensive grill, nice customer service move from Home Depot!
Website is great, people in store are great, but for some reason you have to check yourself out most of the time. Hence 4 stars instead of 5
I can shop for the little items too (which can be very hard to find inside the store.)
The only improvement I would suggest, is that they show all previous items ordered, for quick re-order.
If I order online, it usually ships relatively fast.
I went and bought 3 gallons of paint. First 2 were good, I started painting all happy with my new home and then. The 3rd can I noticed it wasn't the right color I had asked for. Went to my purse to look for my receipt but I lost it. I thought it shouldn't be a huge problem since the paint can had a sticker with the info saying it was purchased there the day before.
I was very polite and super patient waiting to get helped. The lady looked frustrated I had a bad feeling. I still kindly explained the situation and the lady in a super sour way repeated No no. No receipt no return. I told her I didn't want a return I wanted the paint to be corrected. She looked annoyed she really didn't want to be there. A gentlemen came over but didn't do much. Seemed totally clueless and gave her the last word. So you give me the wrong color and get upset when I ask for you to fix it? No Receipt No Refund? Understand completly. But not being able to fix your mistake. Super unprofessional simply horrible. $45 behr paint to waste.
I do not usually order from a place when I can physically drive there to see the products for myself. However I wanted to order live ladybugs (that's right - LIVE LADYBUGS) for a leafhopper problem on a giant vine I have in my backyard. These are only available to order online. I ordered them, expecting to see them in 5 days or so, they arrived in 2! Ladybugs were great, we had fun putting some on each evening over the course of a week, and also startling everyone who opened the fridge to see a box of ladybugs!
Very happy with the shipment speed and with the product - and yes - they worked great against the leafhoppers!
Home Depot has had some really good deals on line that I could not find in their store, But the main draw back was very slow delivery. This was on outdoor Garden items.
This is a mans store but when spring rolls around, us ladies are right there in the thick of it.
You are on your own most of the time at HomeDepot. But, "sometimes" you will find an employee with a clue. Do your own research, and know what you need.
Answer: Hi Betty, you can also return without receipt if you purchased using your credit card. Give them the same CC and they can tell the price you bought at.
