Home Depot Reviews Summary

Home Depot's reputation is marked by a mix of positive and negative customer experiences. Many customers appreciate the wide selection of products and the knowledgeable staff, which contribute to a convenient shopping experience. However, significant concerns arise regarding customer service, particularly related to installation issues, return policies, and delayed deliveries. Customers frequently report dissatisfaction with the handling of complaints and a perceived lack of support, leading to frustration and a sense of being undervalued. Overall, while the company offers a robust product range, its customer service approach appears inconsistent, impacting overall satisfaction.

Bought a fridge to put in the basement and found out on the day of delivery they are not insured to deliver to the basement. They literally dropped it off and said if you have any problems call the store and rolled on their merry way. As a disabled person to be treated like this was shocking. How the heck as a stroke survivor am I supposed to take a 18cf fridge out of a box? The box alone is 2x my height. It was the first and only purchase I will ever make. They really just suck at customer service

I bought a fridge from the Home Depot. The guys they hired to deliver it, not only left my house reeking of cigarettes for days but also left a 12 foot scratch in the floor of our brand new, 2 month old home after dragging the fridge sideways instead of using the dolly. I was assured this would be fixed by my first, second, third, fourth and fifth conversation with people at THD… I thought too highly of them and their partners, nothing has been fixed and I have no idea who to reach out to. I will never shop at THD again. It's Lowe's from here on out. I can't believe that they guaranteed to fix my floors and never followed through. Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves.

Purchased 3 sets, 18 lights, of Hampton Bay low-voltage pathway lights and timer/transformer from Home Depot. Lighting strike in June near our home took out 10 lights and the timer transformer. Was only able to obtain replacement timer transformer via ebay. While lights were shown as unavailable from Home Depot for a couple of months they were shown as available on-line in early August. Placed order for two sets of 6 lights on Aug 3 and received "notification of shipment" on Aug 4. For over the subsequent month the status showed delivery was always about 4 days from then current date. I subsequently discovered that FedEx never received the packages from Home Depot. Despite extensive correspondence with Home Depot, at multiple levels, I have never received an explanation as to why Home Depot failed to deliver the product to FedEx or whether the lights will every be available in the short or long term. If there is a supply chain issue and Home Depot is making an effort to get the lights from Hampton Bay, or they do not intend to re-stock the lights, they could have at least told me that..

Unskilled contractors
October 31, 2021

Home Depot has by far the worst contractors installing there products, they covered asbestos floor tiles with rug without even telling me, when it was clear that 9+9 inch tiles are asbestos, had they told there was asbestos under the old carpet I would not have bought the house, instead they covered it, when I sold the house after I had to take $14k off the price because a simple inspection showed there was asbestos under the carpet, do not under any circumstances let them install anything, this is one example of five, they even admit they should have told me and did not. Hire your own contractor not Home Depot it will cost you more in the long run

FUC... G AWFUL, Thomas raditz, Gatesville tx no longer a loyal homedepot customer. They fu... up 5 orders and blamed me. They couldn't even deliver when I asked because they didn't know 16 ft boards don't fit in a 10 ft panel truck. They even gave my paint away and told me to wait. They wouldn't give free delivery discounts nothing. I now have a sign on my vehicles that says boycott homedepot. Signed once loyal customer

I ordered a dishwasher and told the sales clerk that my dishwasher had a switch that turned on the dishwasher as well as the needed water hook up. Stephanie, the name of the employee that helped me, told me no problem, Home Depot could send the right people out to get that done. Great, we set up the delivery date, I paid for the dishwasher, and went home. Today was the big day - delivery day - when I could finally stop doing dishes by hand and I would have a new dishwasher! The truck pulls up, two guys get out, and come in to make sure the original dishwasher was placed the right way. It was. BUT when I pointed out the light switch, they said they didn't do electric and that someone else was going to have to come to my home and do the electric. And since they didn't do electric, I have a dishwasher sitting in my kitchen and the old one still in place. The delivery guys told me they'd put on the paperwork that they couldn't install it and I would be contacted. BUT I was told by Stephanie that delivery day would also be INSTALLATION day.

Not one to sit waiting for people to contact me, I called the Home Depot store in Wake Forest and talked to the manager. This is where this story gets EVEN WORSE. I have to have both a plumber and an electrician come out. I could have my installation fee refunded of $149 BUT I could be charged EVEN MORE by the plumber and electrician. ALSO since they didn't take the old dishwasher with them, I would have to talk to the plumber and electrician about removing the old dishwasher and - wait for it - PAY EVEN MORE THAN HOME DEPOT CHARGED ME FOR REMOVAL. The Home Depot manager was USELESS. "I can't help you" "I have contacted the referral service" BUT I WON'T DEFRAY THE COSTS FOR THE SCREW UP MY OWN STORE CAUSED YOU. All buyers beware - you will be screwed over the same way I just was!

Fighting for refund after returning the wrong item
September 28, 2021

Ordered a wheelbarrow for home delivery. They brought the wrong one(I was not home). Contacted customer service and they can't bring me what I ordered, they can only pick the wrong one up. Who would have thought such a simple order would be so screwed up. They picked it up and now a week later I haven't received a refund. I have to open a PayPal dispute. They are literally stealing a hundred dollars from me.

This is for Home Depot Canada: it's not a one time off experience, but a long list of incidents that made me reconsider EVER buying from them again.

I recently changed my outdoor lights on the house, and did my research. On the HD website, one brand of light fixtures got rave reviews (5 star only). It was a bit more expensive (100$ per light), but I decided to buy 3 pieces, based on the reviews. Got home, had an electrician install them. Not even 2 weeks later, one was shattered on the ground from a light wind. Went on the HD website to 'Ask a question' about where to replace the glass (so I don't have to buy another new light), and here is my beef: HOME DEPOT DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO POST OR ASK QUESTIONS THAT SHOW THAT A PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE. In my case, this was a design flaw, and the company (Globe Electric) did not even bother to respond to an email. I TRIED TO PUT A ONE STAR REVIEW (based on this experience -I mean it's an OUTDOOR light, so is there no wind outside?!) - and I WAS UNABLE TO DO THAT. Bottom line: THE 5 STAR REVIEWS YOU SEE ON HOME DEPOT SHOULD NOT BE FOLLOWED. Because you cannot put a review that is less than 5*. This is misleading and what Home Depot calls 'MODERATING' is literally 'CENSORING'. I'm done with HD. Replacing my outdoor lights ended costing over 600$, the lights are made in China with a design flaw, and nobody from Home Depot or Globe Electric acknowledges this. BEWARE!

I went into store in McKinney and made my purchase on 9/1. It took over a week for someone to contact me and let me know the color I chose is not available at this time. I picked a new color and paid the extra money for an upgraded carpet. I was told my carpet would be shipped within 48hrs. The install company (Cooper Flooring) has now had my carpet for 6 days and has yet to contact me (they are supposed to contact within 5 days to schedule). I called Home Depot who gave me the # to contact Cooper directly and they said they sent an email telling them to schedule ASAP. After speaking with 3 different people today and being put on hold for at least 20min with 1 individual, I am told that the soonest they can install is October 21st. I am so disappointed in this process and it feels like once HD has your money, they just step away. Cooper flooring was not very pleasant to deal with and had I known it would be almost 2 months before I would have carpet, I would have just made the purchase and picked the carpet up at the store and hired someone independently.

Delivery is terrible
September 24, 2021

Three week wait to get a refrigerator that was in stock. Then they don't show up. They say it will take 3 more weeks to get it delivered despite we are available to take delivery 5 1/2 days a week. Two staff call us and give conflicting information on dates they can deliver. None of them sound like they have a clue to what they are doing. Sales person and website were nice, though.

The Home Depot has been our go to home improvement store and we have had good experiences. However, please know that renting tools there is a terrible idea.

I went online and made a reservation for an aerator. I went online and saw the only availability was on Sunday, so I rented one for 4 hours (2-6) and paid a $150 deductible. I got my lawn and my neighbors lawn ready to be serviced only to get an email that my reservation had been canceled about 1.5 hours before my rental time.

After 15 minutes of getting the run around because nobody would pick up the phone in rentals, I called the store manager. She was polite but informed me that this is a busy time of year (which is why I made a reservation) and they defer to in-store customers for their rentals. Basically, I was out of luck.

When I called corporate headquarters to relay my concerns, the gentleman was polite but said he noticed that this has been happening in other stores but really didn't seem to care very much about the problem. He told me he would relay my concerns but he didn't seem very invested in my concern.

In addition to canceling my reservation, they kept my $150. When my wife called, they did not have record of the transaction. I will say they called me back and said we should be refunded by Thursday (4 days after it was deducted).

While I recommend Home Depot for most anything else, I would stay very clear of their rental department if you plan on making a "reservation".

Home delivery
September 20, 2021

The delivery man from home Depot would give us the temperamental attitude you'd find in an artist or a poet the whole way. He really wanted his tip so everything he did, every step he took came with "no can dos" so we could say okay will give you more money.
I was disgusted.

Washer lost still not found and no customer service!
September 18, 2021

We purchased a washing machine, dryer and refrigerator in June 2021. Washer/dryer were to be delivered 8/31. Dryer not on truck. Told wait 24 to 48 hrs. Then told that again. Then again. It is now September 18th. We were told manufacturer was drop shipping new washer since other one lost and then told it would be delivered today on 9/18. They said the washer and fridge would be on two different trucks but both delivered between 10 and 2. The refrigerator was delivered today around 11:30 am. No washer so my husband called. They said they would call back. We waited and he left another message. Then we got a voicemail that the washer was on a different ticket (yes probably since it was dropshipped due to the error) and now they can't give us any information until Wednesday! Are you kidding me? We are TIRED of waiting. Where is this washer and why do we continue to have to be penalized for Home Depot and their delivery people's errors? Buyer beware! We are fed up!

I use Homedepot for special orders and every time I go to pickup the product it takes an inordinate amount of time due to what they say "I'm not the only customer" but yet I'm ALWAYS the only person standing around waiting like 20 minutes sometimes. So this time I said something about being told to put my truck under the canopy to pickup product but I pushed back and said when I see the product I'll get my truck because I didn't want my truck sitting there in the way of others loading. She got really aggressive and said if i didn't have my truck there no product would be brought out, now this is the same person who when I walked up was gossiping to another employee about NOTHING but made me wait until she finished her stupid gossip story, I'm talking MAJOR RUDE. So as I'm dealing with this craziness an assistant manager Jason walks up and proceeds to tell me I'm out of line and blah blah blah, after having about enough of him I said, instead if jawing at me what doesn't he get his $#*! back there and get my product, then he said I cussed at him and proceeded to tell me to get out of his store and he was sending my product back blah blah blah, I stood my ground and demanded my product, which was finally brought out after 20 minutes of BS. My question is who was suppose to be the professional here certainly not the chatty counter person because Jason stepped in and ramped everything up. Moral to the story: these HomeDepot people think they are better than us and makeup dumb rules and regulations up that only exist in there heads! CONTROL FACTOR/EGO!

My family ordered a new LG washer and dryer from Home Depot in Temple, TX. The 1st delivery, they bounced them around so much they did not start up. The 2nd set when delivered they plugged into the wrong outlet and burned both of the Mother boards so they would not work. The 3rd set delivered the dryer would not work. So they took back both. It took over a month to get credit so we could order something different. Once we got on the phone complaining they finally got the credit added to our account. We then ordered a Samsung washer and dryer. We waited 2 weeks for the delivery to find out they lost the order, now we have to wait two more weeks. I do not know, why this is so complicated but I would not recommend ordering from the Temple Home Depot location. TERRIBLE!

The after-sales support team is terrible. We have spent hours on the phone, on-hold and with different reps to have our fridge delivered - several months after purchase. We were given all sorts of excuses for the delay. We were also offered compensation, which was not received. It is abundantly clear that the after-sales support is a disconnected group of powerless phone agents, acting as a front for a firm that wants to appear to care about the customer, but avoid supporting their sales.

In April 2021, we ordered custom cabinets for the garage. We chose to go with Home Depot (HD) although the quote was substantially higher than Closet World. Our thinking was the HD reputation must stand for something. The delivery date was July 29 for a job for three walls. HD called to set up an installation date of Friday, August 27, nearly one month late. In the one-month interim, we called and visited the HD in Mira Loma, CA where the designer entered the project on the computer and where we paid for the purchase. The store manager, Nick, was helpful in reaching out to different people at the manufacturing site in Vista, CA. But he too got the run around as we did with individuals lying to Nick that we were contacted by phone and email. None of that was true. Complete silence from HD, except Nick. Last resort, regional managers Linda D. And Courtney were contacted.
On the scheduled install date, no one showed or called. The installation was rescheduled for August 31. The installers arrived and quickly realized the measurements were off on multiple cabinets. When an installer asked who the designer was, he frowned in disappointment saying he hated doing projects designed by her. He called the designer, Joy, to ask about her design and dimensions. She revealed she was no longer with HD and that she anticipated there were going to be issues with our project. The installer suspects Joy was fired because of the bad reputation she had promising work beyond the installers' control.
Photo: Two cabinets made with the wrong measurements. Doors would not open if installed.
Conclusion: We sent the installers away with all the material. We have to start all over again or ask for a full refund and call Closet World.
