Home Depot's reputation is marked by a mix of positive and negative customer experiences. Many customers appreciate the wide selection of products and the knowledgeable staff, which contribute to a convenient shopping experience. However, significant concerns arise regarding customer service, particularly related to installation issues, return policies, and delayed deliveries. Customers frequently report dissatisfaction with the handling of complaints and a perceived lack of support, leading to frustration and a sense of being undervalued. Overall, while the company offers a robust product range, its customer service approach appears inconsistent, impacting overall satisfaction.

Home Depot has changed their policy on returns. I purchased some drip system fittings a couple of weeks ago for a system I was putting in. I needed to exchange one type of fitting for another. Fittings were clean, new, labeled and in plastic bag. Unfortunately I paid cash and did not have my receipt. Long story short, customer service was rude and indifferent. I left without the fittings I needed as well, I will shop at Lowes.
Another recent incident with Home Depot on a return: Rheem water heater return. Tank broke or cracked after 2 years on a 6 year warranty. I called Rheem as directed in the paperwork, obtained authorization for return to Home Depot. I checked the store location to make sure that had a replacement in stock (I live 40 minutes away). Long story short, the "help desk" would not honor the return. I asked them to call Rheem. The associate pretended to do this. I say pretend, because I had done it twice with the same number and there were prompts to get to the return department. The associate stood there acting like they were not picking up. I called on my cell phone and the Rheem center had to bark at them (there were 4 rude Home Depot associates present) to let me take a replacement water heater. This took me over an hour. Home Depot has ZERO idea of what customer service is supposed to look like unless you want to buy something. I hate to report this as I have been driving past Lowes for several miles to get to Home Depot as I have always gone to Home depot. That ended today, I am not going to have a 3rd nightmare at a Home Depot "customer service" counter.
Two months ago I received a bill from HD that I was not sure were expenses I incurred. First, I went to their web site, signed in and tried to actually look at the specific expenses. The site kept asking me to link my Home Depot credit card with the Home Depot account. Yet it would not allow me to do this since it said I already had an account. And why, I ask, would I be the one linking these two parts of their system. Wouldn't my card already be linked?
Next I tried the automated customer service telephone system. It would give me my bill amount and allow me to pay but other services were buried in the automated system. After more than 30 minutes trying to get to a real person, I finally had someone on the line. When I said I wanted to speak to someone about the items on my bill they hung up!
Lastly, I wrote a letter with specifics of what my concern/question was and the process that had prompted me to write. I got a form letter back sending me to the same automated system that did not provide assistance.
I paid the bill because it was effecting my credit rating but that is the last of Home Depot for me.
Made a purchase online to pick up at store. Received 3 receipts showing the amount of the charge. Received credit card invoice and was charged more than the receipts showed. Spent ONE HOUR making 4 phone calls. Their 800 Customer Support line made me answer a survey about the service I just received after I was on hold for 18 mins then hung up on me. Called back, hung up after 15 mins with no one answering. The intro tells me my wait time is appx 3 minutes. Called the store where I picked up the order. Had to redial 4 times. First call on hold for 12 minutes, second call no answer at all for 16 mins, third call to Pro Dept went unanswered for 8 minutes, last call waited through phone ringing for 12 minutes, Operator was rude, was connected to store Manager. He helped but had no explanation about the discrepancy or how that would happen. He offered to call the 800 number because it was an Online sale. Told him he and I would solve it right there on the line because I was not going to wait anymore and would simply report it as fraudulent if we did fix it now. Last call took 22 minutes. THEY DON'T WANT TO HELP YOU... IF YOU BUY FROM THEM, DON'T DO IT ONLINE. AND NEVER NEVER EXPECT THEM TO HELP YOU... IT IS NOT THEIR POLICY.
Have purchased a lot of things from home depot over the years. One of the things that has turned me from a frequent shopper to an occasional shopper is they bowed to a mob mentality/politically correct crowd. So, whenever i can, i shop somewhere else!
Gave them a one star years ago. They are much better now in most aspects. Pleased to see it. I would give five stars but they now force vets to download their app to get the discount.
Consistently bad. Never out of character. Lazy unhelpful employees as a rule. Good employees don't last to long there.
The promise to price match requires so much information to be provided by the buyer it takes forever. Plus 4 calls. The first three cut me off.
Manager did not help, would not help.
All for a 9% price difference
The Home Depot gets worse and worse
Bought a bathtub and a surround walls for bathtub +6 boxes of laminate flooring not a one person helped to load items in pick up truck. No one even asked if we needed help. My husband and I are both in our 60s. This was at the Rockford Illinois location.
I am in the process of building a home in rural Colorado.
On July 12,2021, I placed an in-store order and paid for two standard Clopay 8'x 7' overhead garage doors for outbuildings that were intended to be used for storing furniture during construction.
At that time, I was told that the doors would be delivered "sometime in August." I was never given any updates on the status of my order, and each time I called the dates were pushed back to
September, October 10th, November 2nd, then November 20th. Sometime in late November, the store manager called to say that the door panels were at the Denver Clopay warehouse but that the hardware package had somehow been misplaced. Clopay has put in a rush order for the hardware package associated with my garage doors, and now the latest information from the store manager is that it is expected in on January 10,2022, a full six months after my order was placed.
I am still having to pay to store my furniture commercially as my outbuildings HAVE NO DOORS.
I ordered a combo *******@dryer on Nov 19,2021. Finally, I took a day off from school, I am a special education teacher, on Friday, Dec. 10,2021 and happily waiting for a new appliances. The truck came and 2 workers refused to bring it in my condominium. The stated that company sent 2 people instead of 3 and by the way they are not skillful to install. The associate with whom I was on the phone for 40 min, rescheduled delivery again but her notes did not went through the system. Never ever ever go to HomeDepot again. They are stealing your money, time, and health!
Had one of the worst experiences with a vendor, that I can remember. Went to your flooring dept. at you Poulsbo Washington location picked a slate flooring and scheduled install. After waiting 2 months they show up today, pull my carpet, cutting it into pieces, remove it with padding, lay out my slate, call manager, manager comes, installers leave. Evidently they do not like to install flooring on chip Crete, which is what I have over my radiant floor heating system. I am sitting in my home with no flooring and no resolution other than oops sorry, we can refund you you're money. Crystal (from flooring) and Shannon (store manager) were absolutely no help. This is how you operate? The measurer came out 2 months ago, measured, pulled a corner of carpet and indicated the subfloor, so what's the problem? Why am I sitting in my home with no flooring and no help! As my records will show, I have spent $15,000. At Home Depot this year and hundreds of thousands over the past decades. This is completely unacceptable.
The difference of night and day. Lowes has bad customer service, poor loaders and low scale materials. Home Depot, complete opposite
I recently ordered a video doorbell from Home Depot.com. It was ordered toward the end of November, with a December 6 delivery date. I am very disappointed in the service that I have gotten lately at Home Depot. I have changed my purchasing preferences to Lowe's, even though it is further away from my home.
My understanding is that Home Depot partnered with On Trac for delivery of their packages. On Trac currently has an approval rating of 1.0 out of 5. It is depressing to me, as a consumer, that a business would choose a delivery company with a low rating. The primary reason that it's not lower, I believe, is that the lowest number you can put in is a 1. I do believe they would still get a one if the system was a rating between one and 100.
Took 2 hours to buy a washer and drier in store because they had a "new" system. Washer and drier delivered and the delivery folks left screws in the washer which completely ruined the washer. We got stackable kit was installed incorrectly so the drier on top could have fallen on my 3 year old at any given point. I am sure home depot is great at many things but this experience has been a NIGHTMARE. Don't buy appliances from them. We are struggling to get a replacement out to our home in a timely manner. SHOP ELSEWHERE
I love home Depot. I always get best prices and best variety when I shop here. The quality of their Husky brand is top notch and great value. Thank you!
In July 2021, we signed the paperwork with Carlton Stone, Senior Design *******@Home Depot, for window replacement/installation project in our summer house in Monticello, NY. I opened a Home Depot credit card as part of the deal and began repaying the deposit for this project (09/08 - $500; 10/07/ - $200; 11/09 - $200; $900.00 all together). In August, we got our windows measured by another Home Depot employee. In October, we scheduled the date for installation - 11/20, Saturday. We were very specific about a Saturday appointment as we live in Brooklyn and can only come every other Saturday. For the past three weeks (before 11/20), we would get reminders a few times a week - via text messages, e-mails, and voice mails - about the upcoming installation date asking us to be in the house between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. and reminding us about the importance of removing everything 3 feet away from the windows. As law abiding and loyal customers, we came Friday night (11/19) to follow the instructions. At 8:00 (!) a.m., we got a phone call from an installation department manager who told us that they had to cancel an appointment since they didn't have installation crew... He did not apologize and failed to answer when I asked him if he had found out about that issue at 7:55 a.m. on Saturday. We were upset to the point my husband had to take his high blood pressure medication and pain relief pills. It was so unacceptable and unprofessional on the Home Depot!
Went to Home depot store on S. Broadway, Edmond, Oklahoma to purchase a chain saw. Since the saws had lock and key I went to customer service to ask for help. Two cashiers were chatting and waited for a minute till they finished personal chat and then one asked what did I need, I replied need someone to help with getting the chain saw unlock. I heard she paged assistance at ail 49 and waited for 15 minutes no one showed up, I went back to the desk and told them "I guess you folks don't want to sell items". I went to Low's and bought the chain saw.
4 ATTEMPTS TO DELIVER W/D AND FAILED ON THEIR PART. NEVER SHOP H. D. AGAIN.
P.S. H. D. Keeps apologizing for their 3rd party delivery service, but that never helps. H. D needs to hire its own delivering team and cancel 3rd party contract. Period!
I drove 200 miles to the WEST VALLEY UT STORE AND BOUGHT A WASHER/DRYER and REFRIGERATOR. I PAID FOR THEM. THEY PROMISED ME THAT THE APPLIANCE WOULD NOT BE DELIVERED TO ANYONE BUT ME, IT WAS OFF THE INVENTORY. I COULD COUNT ON IT. TODAY THEY EMAILED ME TO TELL ME IT WILL BE 11/30 not 11/19. That is likely the same lie I've already heard! Money gone- no Refrigerator for Thanksgiving, thank you very much! Their answer was "sorry" and "want your money back?" Inexcusable! Lying sacks! Trust GONE.
I ordered vanity and countertop from home depot Newton. For some reason when I receive the order they send me 2 countertop. That same day I went straight to the store and file a complaint. In short they schedule for a pick up fir the wrong order and ordered me a new vanity. Three days later someone called me saying my ordered will be delivered Saturday. The day came and no order was delivered. I called the store and they told me someone canceled my order, so I ask fir the store manager. The store manager never even lift a finger to take my call and just let the customer service lady who keeps apologizing talk to me. Is that the kind of manager you want to run your store, can't handle a call and at least pacify the customer. They want me wait another day to speak with the person who did my order. In the meantime my project at home is pending, paying the contractor for a job that the material is not available and they want me to wait another day. Great job home depot for hiring thus kind of manager.
Answer: Hi Betty, you can also return without receipt if you purchased using your credit card. Give them the same CC and they can tell the price you bought at.
