The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Beware of the way they send you leads they send leads that you pay for that are people that just want a price form you. Then they tell you that they dont refund the lead for just pricing, so i was stuck paying for 7 leads that were just for price. I worked for them once before and told them that it was not fair to the contractor said they fixed the problem they didnt, so i will not work for them. Professional beware
Wrote a negative review of a company referred to my by HomeAdvisor that was trying to price gouge me. HomeAdvisor called to verify my review, did so, then refused to post it because it could damage the reputation of the company being reviewed. I thought that was the whole point of reviews. Don't trust the the reviews on HomeAdvisor.
Hi Justin, We're sorry you feel this way, we take your ability to rate and review our pros very seriously. While we do have guidelines for posting reviews, we are a third party and would never refuse to post one for this reason. We're more than happy to look into the status of your review, please send your contact info to [email protected] and a rep will reach out to assist you. -HASupport
I just tried to post a bad review of a company on HomeAdvisor. Found out that company has to verify you. What company verify a customer they had a problem with?
No wonder this company only has 4 to 5 star reviews on HomeAdvisor, but 1 to 2 stars on other websites.
Hi Mayumi, We have guidelines that have to be met before a review can be posted and this type of verification is one of those. If we did not, this would compromise the integrity of the reviews on our site by allowing anyone to write a bad review for a pro even if they did not do work for that person, for example. We're more than happy to address any further questions or concerns you may have, please call Customer Care at 877-699-4736 or send info to [email protected] to speak with a rep. -HASupport
I have been using homeadvisor on and off for about 4 years. We have had numerous leads come to us that are from tenants that are not authorized to approve any service work to be done at the residence, yet for some reason Home Advisor continues to deny lead replacement on these. Stay far away from. They are not a business partner, rather a money hungry corporate monster!
Hi Eric, We're sorry you feel this way, we absolutely care about our business partnership. Leads that are from someone who does not have permission to work on the property is something that we are able to credit back for. While it can sometimes prove difficult for us to verify they do not have permission, we are always more than happy to discuss any concerns you have with leads. To speak with a rep, please send your contact info to [email protected] and a rep will reach out. -HASupport
I will never work with the company again! I should've listened to my intuition instead of giving them a second chance. Initially, I had a horrible experience with a sales person. I tried to contact the upper management, but never received a response. A few months later, I received a second call (from a sales person) who told me the previous sales guy wasn't there and apologized for his behavior. I decided to give HA another try, but soon learned everything the sales person told me were lies. I was charged a ridiculous amount for leads that never picked up the phone or followed through. There were also times when I was charged for leads when my leads were supposed to be paused. Additionally, I had to call three and four times to get issues resolved.
Lastly, I had a customer who was clearly mentally ill give me a false review, and although I provided proof that contradicted her statements (not to mention they found proof that contradicted her statements) the review remained, although I was told they would remove it.
I feel HA cares about nothing but their bottom line. I was lied to and given shoddy customer service the entire time I was with them.
I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. Nobody deserves such terrible service. Subscribe at your own risk.
Hi Christy, We're sorry to hear this, this isn't the type of experience we expect you to have. While we do our best to provide you with the tools and opportunities to sell your business, we know there can be frustrations and we're always happy to discuss ways to see the most success with our service. If we are provided proof that a review is not accurate then it will be removed and not presented on your public profile. We're happy to offer any assistance we can, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 or send info to [email protected] and a rep will reach out. -HASupport
I tried Home Advisor 4 times, for different projects I want to have done. I had two contractors call and set appointment. One was a no show, the other I never heard from again. Landscaping, concrete work, pavers and deck building and painting. No one called of showed up. So, being a baby boomer, I picked up the Yellowpages and have had people call and set appointments to quote the work. The good contractors are working, the duds use Home Advisor.
Hi Christopher, We're sorry to hear about your experience, we encourage our pros to respond to requests as quickly as possible and honor appointment times. We're always happy to help you get connected with a pro for your projects, you can submit another service request at http://www.homeadvisor.com/ or browse pros in your area at http://www.homeadvisor.com/c.html. If you would like to speak with a rep, please send your contact info to [email protected] and a project advisor will reach out. –HASupport
THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED. Home advisor sends each lead to three contractors and charges each one approximately $15 (sometimes more) to possibly get the job. Those three contractors then compete for the job and, even though at least two of them will not get the job, they will all get charged. Homeadvisor frequently sends leads during the times you're not available (including in the middle of the night). If you don't respond to the lead right away, you don't get the job. If the person who you are contacting answers the phone (even if just to tell you they've already hired someone else before they even spoke to you), you can't get your money back. And they often send you leads for jobs you can't even do.
Hi Anonymous, We're sorry to hear this, we would like to share some further information that might clarify a few things. A lead will often times be sent to fewer than three pros and there are different types of leads that can assist with that. Leads are sent out in real time so if you receive a lead in the middle of the night, it is because a homeowner submitted it at that time. This is one of the reasons you are able to pause your leads from your mobile app, computer, or over the phone with a rep. Additionally, we are able to issue credit for leads that do not match the work you are profiled for and are also more than happy to address any other concerns you may have about your account. We're here to help, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 or send your contact info to [email protected] to speak with a rep. -HASupport
Stay away from these guys, total scam and unprofessional. I denied their request to be scammed and this is what the sales person email me. This is a direct cut from his email:
"I have a guy that makes $30K a month with us and only has 2 employees, I'd let you talk to him, but I don't want you to waste his time. Scared money don't make no money brother. You're father didn't build a big business by kneeling to fear and not making decisions for his business. Let me know when you want to get serious about your business and I'll help you make some real money."

When I sign up for house cleaning I was told it would be 287.00 for the year. I was also told it would take 24 to 48 hours before my company would be up and running. Because they do a criminal back ground check. The next day I was getting leads. The leads what is a lead nobody explain what they where. So I didn't do anything until I got in touch with them. They never explained what the leads where. I had a bad experience with them. NO BODY was up front. I got 20 leads and out of that I got 4 jobs. My account was never set up right. Half of those leads are not even in my area. By the time I realized what a lead was they went and took out of my bank account with out even saying anything or sending me a email about what I own them. They took 547.00 dollars out and put me in a financial hole. Now I'm paying back the bank. Lesson learned I will never let anyone have my account information again. So thank you Home Advisor for putting me in a major hole. Instead of helping me out to get my business up and running. Your company is nothing but a SCAM.
Hi Sunny, We are sorry to hear you had this experience while signing up for an account. We would be more than happy to have a rep investigate this matter. Please send your contact info to [email protected] so we can look into your account and reach out to you. -HASupport
I entered information into the Home Advisor sign-up process, but when the process asked for cc info I quit the sign-up. I didn't verify the account (click the email link), and yet I started to receive unwanted calls. There is no way to delete your account, so I called customer service and was told to remove my account information, I would have to hire a lawyer and have a demand letter sent.
I have no experience with contractors through HA -- all I know is that the people who work there are not nice.
Hi Bobby, We are sorry to hear you had this experience. We would be happy to place you on a Do Not Call list. Please reach out to [email protected]. -HASupport
This company is very poorly structured, they have very little support and for what you pay for this service they should take better care of there contractors. I signed up last Friday they billed me $347.00 I received 2 leads both leads were bad leads the customers didn't even want someone to come out(they should screen the leads better then they charged me another $112.00 for the bad leads and then Monday I started working on cancelling my account and it took me 4 days to cancel my account and they refused to refund any of the money. I would have to say it was a very expensive mistake
Hi James, We are sorry to hear you had this experience. We absolutely care about our contractors and if you would like to speak with a rep we would be happy to speak with you about any concerns you may have. Please contact [email protected]. -HASupport
Researched Home Advisor for a recommendation of a concrete company that could redo a large, stamped concrete patio with many cracks and crumbles. Planet Dirt and JR was one of the recommendations. I called to get estimate. Hired him. Couldn't have been more pleased with everything. They moved all my furniture off the patio and back on when the job was complete. They were fast, thorough and outstanding. Carolyn Lay, LittleRock

I needed to have new front landing with stairs done. I hired a contractor April of 2016 who had done the very same job for a neighbor down the street. He took two thirds of our money and hardly showed up for the whole year. I am now collecting my money back in installments thank goodness. Last month I went on Home Advisor and found a wonderful contractor. I got two estimates and decided to go with Walter Palacio from Palacio General Construction in Lowell, Ma. He and his very nice and polite crew came every day and did a fabulous job. I would not hesitate to call him again and I know I will be in the near future.
Hi Lillian, We are so happy to hear this! We encourage you to leave Walter a review by submitting it on our website here: http://www.homeadvisor.com/write-a-review/ or by emailing [email protected]. I wrote an extensive review on a company that HomeAdvisor recommended and it turns out it won't get posted because they don't post reviews unless the company got hired. Well, what if the company didn't get hired because the guy who showed up was pushy & degrading and tried getting into your home even tho your husband wasn't there yet and said 'what the hell does he need to be here for anyway?' People should know the bad as well as the good!
Hi Michelle, We are sorry to hear you had this experience with a pro. We also apologize for any confusion about our review process, we would be happy to clarify any concerns. They are a terrible company. I will be taking legal action shortly. They take 10 days to respond to your question, which is ridiculous. They can't deal with problems. Terrible and they take your $$ on top of it!
Hi Mary, We are sorry to hear you had this experience and feel this way about our company. We would be more than happy to connect you with a rep to look into this matter if it has not yet been resolved. Please reach out to [email protected] and we will contact you. -HASupport
This business is so flawed. They gladly steal your money and send you worthless leads that I question are even legit. Some leads hang up the phone the minute you call. Do not subscribe!
I tried on 3 different occasions to set up appointments with contractors they rated as 5 star. However, 2 out of 3 never called to confirm the appointment and the other one confirmed but never showed up. When HomeAdvisor called to cancel yet another appointment they tried to give me a song and dance about how they are only "retailers" of services. What the hell does that even mean? HomeAdvisor adds bogus 5 star ratings to unreliable companies who don't show up. Obviously they Vet NOTHING. These folks are not worth the effort. Flip a coin -- you are bound to have better luck.
They have made me a lot of money. Great leads. Most contractors call a lead once. Bad business but good for me.
Don't use this service. I cancelled this service, and they keep charging me for a lead which I never used. Now, they said that they are going to send my bill for thirty party. They care about themselves and not contractors.
Home Advisor is a complete scam for contractors. They only care about their contractors paying them, whether the lead is good or not. I have received exceptionally more bad leads than good, or even valid. Because they don't verify their customers. Overall, I think it's the worst lead based service out there based on how many false and bogus leads they have no problem sending, and charging the contractor for. And the vast majority of them are NOT cheap. They range anywhere from $15-$120! The contractor does not get a say whether or not, he or she would like to accept the lead. This results in bad leads coming through all the time that the contractor get's stuck paying for. Whether the customer did not input valid information, purposeful or otherwise, another business is scouting out the competition, or the customer is simply just inebriated on a Saturday night playing around with internet, and consequently, contractor's pocket books. It's a long, painful process to get refunded that only sometimes works if you sit on hold for 30 minutes waiting to scream at them after being escalated to a supervisor. And the automated system they have in place that is supposed to make it easier, simply doesn't work. None of this matters to their greedy business model. Because of this, they can't offer the cream of the crop in contractors, but just unsuspecting start up company's. Once a company gets a good reputation, and has been in business for a while, there is no sense in letting Home Advisor steal from your bottom line any longer. Obviously, there is an exception to this rule because I have been in business for 10 years with NO bad reviews and have been involved off and on with Home Advisor. But today was my final straw and I will no longer be offering them access to my stellar business practice and quality of work. As many other smart, reputable businesses have done in the past. This makes Home Advisor almost as bad for homeowners as contractors. Because the homeowner is not getting well established, excellent contractors to choose from in most cases. This is also contrary to how Home Advisor tries to market itself. But in truth, Angie's List has much better quality contractors available. As well as other lead based services. I would not recommend any homeowner, or contractor utilize Home Advisor. All you have to do is look on the web for reviews, or their BBB complaints to see that the vast majority of people agree. They are littered with complaints and bad reviews. I would not be able to stay in business like that, why can Home Advisor?
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
