The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

My company has been around for thirty eight years. Home Advisor charges the contractors for each lead which is a fair concept, however they provide the lead to SEVERAL contractors, bombarding the potential client with solicitation to the point that they don't answer or return your calls. This is considered a NON QUAILIFIED lead. These leads should not be paid for by the contractor due mainly to the fact that nothing materialized other than a phone number and a name. At some point and time you get the feeling that your being scammed. Of the 14 leads they sent (billing me for all) I only spoke with 4 people and only met with 2, The calls went through HomeAdvisior call center, so they can't say I never responded to the leads, CONTRACTORS BEWARE, auto paying set up with your credit card,
Once you give them your card number they lock it down, WARNING THEY WILL CONTINUE BILLING UNTIL YOUR CARD IS MAXED OUT
STAY AWAY FROM HOME ADVISOR! Parasites! They are a complete SCAM for credible hard working service providing handymen & contractors. From day 1 was an absolute "horror story" scam operation in their favor. Initiation fee's, quarterly membership due's & job fees are primarily what they are after from us laborers. Job referrals completely out of my zip code area where they charge fees for each referral. DO NOT EVER JOIN HOME ADVISOR! STAY AWAY FROM HOME ADVISOR!
Hi Yuriy, We're sorry you feel this way about our business, we are not a scam. While there are costs associated with our professional service, this is how we are able to keep our service free for homeowners and all fees are covered prior to signing up. The zip codes you cover are up to you and leads outside your desired coverage area are eligible for credit. We're happy to address any concerns you have, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 to speak with a rep. -HASupport
Listing of contractors/vendors given by HomeAdvisor are a JOKE. No one ever heard of these contractors/Vendors. Reviews for these vendors by other sites shows them as Terrible. Don't waste your time with home advisor.

They sound great when they first contact you. Their leads are very expensive and fare and few between. If I had to do it over again I would put the money spent into other options. Your best money spent will be staying away from home advisor.
Hi Wade, We're sorry to hear this. We do our best to present you with opportunities and the tools to turn those into jobs. We're always happy to discuss ways to pull in more leads and strategies to sell them. If you would like to speak with a rep, please call Customer Care at 877-947-3639 or send info to [email protected]. -HASupport
The leads must be fake. 90% of the leads had a disconnected phone number, homeowner said they never requested an estimate, etc. So after paying for dozens of these leads I decided to cancel them as they are worthless. It took me calling 3 times to cancel the leads. Every time I would cancel the leads they would turn them back on shortly thereafter and start charging my credit card again... totally unethical!... took me 3 times to finally cancel those leads and blocking them from charging my credit card.
Hi Brandon, We're sorry to hear this. Your leads would only turn back on if the decision was made with you and an account specialist to pause your leads instead of canceling your account. Leads with non-working or incorrect phone numbers are also eligible for credit. We're happy to address any other concerns you have with your old account, please call 877-947-3639 or send info to [email protected] to speak with a rep. -HASupport
I consider myself to be a very handy man. I've renovated several kitchens, bathrooms, etc. Paving is a different story. I don't have the tools or experience to do so. There are a lot of companies out there and it's difficult to find the right one. This being said, after getting several quotes from different companies, I stumbled onto HomeAdvisor and they recommended two companies. The first and last company we contacted was "All American Paving". Mike Spinale was very responsive to our requests and gave an indepth and very competitive estimate for the job. We found a few estimates for less, but decided to go with All American because of their honesty and promptness. After a few more emails/texts and less than a week after getting the estimate, the owner, John Cokorogianis, was pulling up to the front of our house to do the job we requested. Him and his crew were very cordial, efficient and finished the job in a very timely fashion. After the job was completed, John gave me his honest opinion and was skeptical about the current drainage situation we had currently had and offered to help me remedy it at no extra cost. They gave me a quote and stuck by it. Nowadays, customer service like this is obselete. To make a long review longer, I would recommend this company to family and friends and couldn't be happier knowing we hired the smaller, yet honest and passionate company, instead of the bigger companies who look at customers as numbers and not people. If you need some paving work done, give them your business. You won't regret it. We didn't.
Hi Robert, Thank you for sharing your great experience with All American Paving! If you haven't done so already, don't forget to review them on our site as well by submitting one here: http://www.homeadvisor.com/write-a-review/ or by sending your review to [email protected]. -HASupport
Pretty close to being a scam. Very few leads are legit. I have payed for over 50 leads and received very few legitimate leads. I have called customer service too many times to count to complain but same old crap.

Below is my most recent communication with HomeAdvisor.
HASupport,
Your services are a joke, your customer service is pathetic and your reply to my experience with your services is for show. Over 3 months ago I used your services, your rep was a conman and basically robbed me within the confines of my home. When your customer service rep got involved (immediately) they said they could do nothing and it was up to me to try and have your service person return my money. You then created a service ticket #******* Lyn Welch contacted me and I sent her all the receipts. Again, she said, no one can contact your service man and they will try to continue to contact him. Since then, I have already purchased a new washer and dryer and moved on with my life. I will continue to share my reviews on additional sites to protect the public from your defrauding business model.
Judge yourself accordingly,
John Allen
HomeAdvisor S. [HomeAdvisor Rep] Hi John, We're sorry you feel this way about our business. We're more than happy to further investigate this matter, please send your contact info to *******@homeadvisor.com and a rep will reach out. -HASupport
Wasted both money and time when I utilized the Home Advisor website to find an appliance repairman. The buyer beware flags should have gone up but I thought from the commercials that the organization was legit. The contractor was a conman that defrauded me out of my money and Home Advisor tells me they are going to escalate my case to the correct depart for resolution. I'm not holding my breath. Save your money and your time and only use authorized contractors and not these bullshit Fraud sites like Home Advisor.
Where do I even begin... Without question in the 16 years my company has been in business this is the worst experience we have ever had with an advertising service and the biggest waste of money. Home Advisor convinces you that they have customers who desire your services but when you begin to receive the leads you find out quickly MOST of these so called clients are cluesless as to the fact that they have created a job scope for you to act upon as the contractor. In most cases they will not return your call nor respond to your emails texts etc and in the rare case they do actually answer the call they seem to be put out that you are calling or reaching out to them. You'll have just as good of luck converting these high dollar (yes very high dollar) leads into actual sales/jobs as you would by randomly selecting people walking across a parking lot and handing them your business card... and that is free! Seriously these people should all be jailed in my opinion as they are thieves. Your first clue as to the scam will be the lengthy process that you go through with voice recording etc which basically authorizes them to charge your credit card AT WILL and they will definitely ring you up. It is almost impossible to get the leads turned off so you just keep racking up charges until you finally cry uncle and tap out by cancelling your account. I beg of you DO NOT do this... it is a gimmick at best and more apt to be a scam.
Hi Daryl, We're sorry you feel this way about our business. Please see our response to your other review for information and resources to speak with a rep. -HASupport
These people are a bunch of crooks. It's like a tela marketing scam but, worse. They charged me 300 dollars to sign up as a pro then, didn't activate my account for 2 weeks. When they did I got flooded with leads from some places at least 3 hours away from me at costs of up to 75 dollars. It took weeks to get everything somewhat sorted out and I told them to cancel my account and refund my money. They then told me I had to cancel within 72 hours of signing up. I had to change my credit info to stop them from drafting my bank account anymore. How are these people still in business? John@ Chris Matthew Construction

I just learned on this website about how badly contractors were treated by Homeadvisor. I feel deeply sorry for them because most of my contractors are pretty good.
As for the customer rewards, I've been through their ridiculous practice: 1) when I started my 3rd project, both my #1 and #2 projects were verified for rewards. But after I completed the review for the #3 project, the #2 project became under review for 2 months; 2) no one in customer service can forward my call to the rewards department; 3) customer service sent an email to the rewards department requesting them to contact me, but no one did for days.
I didn't think they want to give rewards at all and was about to file a complaint to BBB, but I found below two persons' emails (John and Tyler) on BBB. They wanted customers to contact them before filing a complaint. So I did and sent them a copy of the receipt for #2 project. No one responded to me. 5 business days later I checked my HA account and $50 was granted. I received the check 2 weeks later.
*******@homeadvisor.com; *******@homeadvisor.com
In the future I won't use HA again, but I'll contact the contractors directly.
Hi Iris, We're sorry to hear this but glad you successfully received your reward. This isn't the type of interaction we expect you to have with our service. We're happy to address concerns you might have about your experience or our pro service, please call Customer Care at 877-699-4736 or reach out to [email protected]. -HASupport
They advertised that for every 3 contractors you hire and give reviews, they would give you 50 dollars gift. I have been calling home advisors to get my check, they always promised, check is on the way. After the fourth representative that put me on hold and later disconnect me, I got the picture. There's no check, they just lied.
Hi Maria, We're sorry to hear this, our rewards program is absolutely real. Please send your contact info to [email protected] so we can locate your account and a rep will be in touch to make sure you get taken care of. -HASupport
WARNING! DON'T COUNT ON HOME ADVISORS! I found Integrity Van Lines on Home Advisors - original bid was $8500, and now we are LOAD HOSTAGE VICTIMS - they want $20,000 total to release our belongings because they underestimated the size of the load - they did! Home Advisors said, "We are really just advertisers, there isn't much we can do." Nightmare.
Hi Dorsey, We're sorry to hear about your experience, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Home advisor is a great connection. The home advisor staff hooked me up with a service to do the work If you have an appliance that breaks down they are the site to go to. My refrigerator broke and I called 1 other company but they couldn't help me. I called home advisor and less than an hour it was back to working order. Professional worker and very pleasant. Way to go ABL appliance service A+++++
Had a VERY small yard that needed a cleanup. Weeds, top off some shrubs, cut down a overgrown aloe type plant. No paperwork, no license, overcharged, job done poorly. Then I see all the complaints online. Why is this company still ripping people off? It just goes on and on and nobody does anything to stop these people!
Hi Don, We're sorry to hear you had this experience with a pro. We recommend getting multiple estimates in order to find the pro that best meets your project requirements. We also verify state level licensing and, while the requirements will vary from state to state, there is often times not a license needed for a lawn cleanup. If you haven't done so already, please share your experience by reviewing this pro here: http://www.homeadvisor.com/write-a-review/. We're more than happy to further address your concerns, please call Customer Care at 877-699-4736 or send your contact info to [email protected] to speak with a rep. -HASupport
Home Advisor drafted $309.00 and refused to refund it even though i had not used them in 6 months! Crooks! Do NOT let them near your account!

Why was I given a horrible lead? The people were rude. I called to advise them of the company's behavior and I was treated RUDELY by their employee.

Poohbear cleaning services cleaned my rental apt. In my home. They did a fantastic job. I'm happy, and I thought they were very nice too. Louise b
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
