I made a car rental reservation through Priceline to pick-up a car at Hertz in Buford, GA on July 15,2022 at 12:00 pm. I went to the store at 12:00 pm to pick up the car, and the store was closed. There was a sign on the door which said it was CLOSED ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS. Why would I have been able to make the reservation through HERTZ and PRICELINE in a time slot when the business was officially closed? I had a family and business vacation planned to leave straight from the rental. I was extremely frustrated. We were very very fortunate and thankful that we were able to secure a last-minute rental from a nearby Enterprise store before they closed at 1pm on the same day. The rental at Enterprise was $200 more than the original rental at Hertz. Both Priceline and Hertz refused to assist or help compensate the extra fees I accrued because of THEIR scheduling mistake which jeopardized my trip. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Hidden Fees
July 25, 2022

I was told once I was there that I would be charged a $500 deposit, which I wasn't happy about but whatever. Then after I returned the car they hit me with another $100 saying that the file hadn't been closed and once it was closed they'd refund my money. Then the next day they hit me with ANOTHER $100 with zero explanation. I will never use them again as they just charge whatever they like. I had the car less than 24 hours and got charged $1000.

Pathetic
July 24, 2022

Family is from Sydney, so Rented a car from lynbrook hertz in New York State to attend my daughters graduation from Hofstra uni. Had the rental 10 days, paid for in advance. Two weeks after arriving home I get a credit card charge of aud$1300!. My bank says its for tolls! I email hertz saying I was never closer than fifty miles to any toll roads and its an error. Clowns finally concede my rental wasn't associated with these tolls and tell me to contact the toll company. That was hertz response. They gave out my credit card details negligently and recklessly without checking the bona fides of the charges, yet these scumbags response is contact the toll company. Further emails sent by me and a consumer affairs advocate were ignored and went unanswered. A grub of a company and with an odd exception, a bunch of lazy boofheads working for them. The toll transponder had been removed from my rental prior to me picking it up, either someone has walked into the open yard where cars are stored has been removed by an employee who is involved in this criminal behaviour. At no time was this transponder mentioned to me, hertz is aware of this scam but doesn't give a rats $#*! about it. Id hate to see how many others have been caught in this and have received no help from hertz. Never again will I hire from them

The (deceitful) art of generating additional revenue

I rented a car (0234LST) on 16/06 around 14:30 from the airport of Santiago de Compostela and returned the car on 17/06 at 21:30, same place. The car, upon collection was not checked by myself ( being in a basement carpark not well lit). A few days after the return I received a letter saying that a scratch was found on the car, costing 60 Euros de fix plus an admin charges of 50 euros. I am categorical that the damage did not occur whilst in my possession as I checked the car in daylight prior to returning it. The company, even though they cannot prove the damage was caused by me, insist that as I did not check ( or did not have photographic evidence of no damage), therefore the damage was caused by me. Upon request I was sent photos with the alleged damage, but the photos, with the alleged damage, had a time stamp of 07/07 and not the day i returned the car, 3 weeks earlier.
Renters, particularly those who do not take insurance, be aware that you will be presented with an additional bill for alleged damages and you are on a looser as you will never be able to prove that it was not you!
Really shoddy, dishonest and unethical business practice.
When, oh when will companies learn that you do not prosper by ripping off your business customers.
Shame on the architects of this strategy.

Customer Service is of no importance
July 11, 2022

Been loyal to Hertz for years. Always only went to Hertz for our rental needs and because Gold members. In the past, when we have reserved vehicles, never had a problem. We reserved a full size SUV a month ahead of time to move our son across the country. Our flight landed at 9:30pm and that is the time our reservation was made for the month prior. We arrived and they had no full size SUV's. We ultimately were given a MIDSIZE SUV. I asked the employees what is the point of making a reservation if you're going to turn around and rent it to someone else. They assured us that we would get credited for the difference. Wrong. Hertz has stood their ground that they are the same vehicles, yet when you Google full size SUV's and Midsize SUV's, there is clearly a difference. The only thing Hertz offered us for the inconvenience is 750 points which would cover 1 day of an economy to midsize sedan for any future rentals. So…not even a day of the type of vehicle we payed for. Sadly, Hertz is not the same company we had previously done business with and will not be doing so in the future. By the way, the vehicle we were given was filthy. We found a toddler sized gym shoe, a full pack of gum, several chocolate candies and $. 37. All of which was turned in when we returned the vehicle. And when we called corporate to complain, the rude woman, who wouldn't give her name, said, "what would you like me to do…charge you more?". Horrible customer service.

I have been a frequent renter with this company until today. Never again, will I ever rent with Hertz again.
I have always arrived at the pick up location with my AAA members in tow. They were always added as additional drivers at no charge. This year, it cost me $154 per driver over what I thought I was spending. Their reason was that I did not include a code at the time of booking - which I had NEVER had to do with previous bookings.
I work in Customer Service and know how easy it is to reverse or make an exception. They have trained their Customer relation personnel very well to say 'NO'.
Not to mention - the tire pressure and oil pressure lights were on. The vehicle needed tires and brakes as well. An easy clean - 18" diameter smudge on the inside windshield of someone's feet prints. Disgusting! Never again!

Deceptive practice
July 8, 2022

I was offered a loaner by my dealership and when I arrived there two agents from Hertz were there (one that was clearly being trained) with the paperwork as we were filling the paperwork out I clearly stated that I would take any coverage that the dealership was offering to pay for. After initialing and signing the paperwork from Hertz and noticed that I had been charged on my American Express for additional insurance. Once I returned the vehicle I clarified with my dealership on what they were covering and they did not cover the additional insurance. I attempted to call Hertz and only received automated messages. I then decided to drive to the local Hertz office and spoke with a Karl VanEpps, branch manager at the Elmgrove Park Rochester New York location. He responded that because I initialed it he would not be able to do anything for me. I explained my situation and he attempted to contact Rachel Foote who was present during the signing and was unable to reach her. I still have not heard back and I'm expecting a full refund on any charges to my credit card

I booked a rental for my time in Norway. I needed to modify my reservation by picking it up one day later. To do that they were going to have to make a new reservation and it would double my original cost even though it was one day less. I canceled and went with another company.

After comparing 6 car rental companies online for an upcoming trip, I opted to go with Hertz. The website showed me the cars available for the dates I needed, and with each car there was a Pay Now and a Pay Later rate to choose from. I made my selection, but found that neither tab worked. It didn't work on any car on the page or with either rate. I even closed the site, reopened, and reentered all my info. The same rate appeared, but I was still unable to choose a car. Then I noticed the chat screen in the corner, so I asked for help. I was answered promptly, with no waiting at all. I had to go through the explanation, then answer all the questions that I had already answered twice online, then she finally gave me a quote, which was $150 more than the online price. She asked me for more information so she could get it booked for me, but I said, no thanks, I want the rate on the website. She then told me they don't have set rates, and I should try back later, and then she DISCONNECTED! I have never been hung up on by a chat person. She wouldn't even ask what the rate was or what car I was looking at. Meanwhile, my computer screen still had about 10 minutes on the countdown before the rate expired. I will NEVER consider using Hertz again. They are dead to me.

NEVER prepay for Hertz! In fact NEVER rent from Hertz! The only reason I prepaid for 8 days on a rental car is because the car movers said it could take that long to deliver my car from where it was shipped in Washington state. Well they delivered my car to Phoenix in 2 days, so I returned the Hertz rental car immediately after my car was delivered (SIX DAYS EARLY!). Because I made the mistake of prepaying, Hertz will not refund me ANYTHING for the six days I did not use. This is nothing but highway robbery, and I will make it my business to tell ALL of my friends and colleagues about how Hertz is perfectly happy to rip them off! NEVER use Herts!

Bait and switch
June 30, 2022

Had a horrible experience with the Denver Airport rental location. I reserved a "Large Elite SUV" from Hertz back in March 2022 (Cadillac Escalade or comparable as defined on their website). We needed a vehicle that would carry 7 people and 4 suitcases. Upon arrival we were given an Infinity Q-80 (a large SUV as defined by online help agent) not the bigger SUV. Note: the Large SUV is $50 per day cheaper to rent. There was no way 4 suitcases were fitting in the Infinity with the 7 people. When we questioned the vehicle size, we were told this is what you reserved. After an hour of arguing with the front desk, supervisor and manager, the manager finally brought out a Cadillac Escalade. I went to thank him for correcting the error, but he told me the Cadillac Escalade was an upgrade and I shouldn't be getting it. I referred him to my reservation that clearly stated that I reserved a Cadillac Escalade or comparable, but he just walked away. After I left, my Hertz app changed my reservation to a Large SUV, from the original Large Elite SUV. Good thing I took snap shots of my reservation from the app and still have my email confirmation. Not sure if the office was trying to cover their mistake or not, the whole thing just seemed very unethical. If you go to this Hertz location, I would double check everything.

Horrible service
June 25, 2022

Picked up a car in Myrtle beach 3 days ago. We had requested a toddler car seat since we were traveling with a toddler. Half an hour after we picked up the car they finally came up with an infant car seat for us. When we went back to tell them this was not the correct car seat we were told " I am not a car seat expert" and this is all after a four hour flight with a toddler. Talk about customer service… they should be ashamed of themselves.

I called to confirm my truck would be available and ready for pickup on June 15,2022, by 12:00 pm CST. I spoke with Tiara (Wednesday, June 14,2022, at 3:55 pm) at the Hertz location where it was to be picked up. The location was 1831 Getwell Road, Memphis, Tennessee *******. Tiara confirmed the vehicle would be ready for a 10:30 am pickup. When I arrived the representative (Tiara) explained the rental was schedule for a 12:00 pm pickup, but the truck had been sold and asked if I wanted another vehicle. I said no, she offered other options which would not accommodate my needs. Tiara spoke with her manager (Jeremy), who never showed his face, nor gave me the courtesy of speaking with me about this situation, I waited for some kind of resolution. After sitting and waiting for an hour to be accommodated with a vehicle that would support my needs, Tiara finally explained Hertz had 2 pickup trucks in their fleet; one was the truck that was sold the night before and the other was damaged. I felt this was terrible service for them to sell the truck the night before it was schedule for a customer's/my use. Additionally, Tiara said she would continue to try to locate me a truck and they would deliver it to me. Today is Friday, June 24,2022, at 4:50 pm. I have not heard a word from Hertz, not an apology or anything. This is the worst service from any business I ever remember experiencing.

Finally, I went to Budget Car Rental, I had a 2022 Dodge Ram truck with 133 miles on it, within 30 minutes and I was on my way, THANKS Budget.

Hertz that was PISS - POOR service and I will definitely share my experience.

Hertz is a well-reputed car rental company; however there are some bad apples.
My recent experience at their Sugar Land Regional Airport location identified one such apple (an employee named Craig) He shouldn't be their first line of contact with Hertz customers. He is not sociable, fair, friendly or helpful. Perhaps he's not happy to be doing what he's doing.
The standard of practice in renting a car is for the staff member carefully go through the car interior and exterior to identify any problem areas and get the customer to agree on the existing defective conditions. Everything is carefully documented and agreed upon before the customer gets the keys. Not so with Mr. Craig. He didn't bother to come out of his seat and simply pointed in the general direction of the car in a fairly big parking lot. We could only find the car using the car lock key. This was the last midsize car they had so we decided to not mention about the smoke odor in the car. Big mistake! When returning, Craig had the time to come out and smell the smoke and charged us $200 cleaning fee. The three adults in our family - the only passengers - have never smoked in our lives. But he was adamant and charged us the fee, inspite of our protests. If he had taken us to the car prior to rental, the smoke issue would not be an issue. He has a poor demeaner and is unpleasant to deal with - in person and on the phone. Hertz can look into this issue and decide what further action is needed.

Arrived Heathrow. Despite told shuttle there in 15 minutes it NEVER arrived. We were left stranded for nearly 3 hours. Calls to Avis not picked up. Taxis would not take us.
Finally a kindly airport worker took us in his private car.
Young girl at Avis very pleasant but could not explain why not picked up or calls unanswered. Was all very distressing. We are in our seventies and not what expect after long plane flight.
We have never used avis before and never again.

I had been a Gold Card Member for years but after our last international rental in Scotland and the lack of customer service we received both there and once we got home, I cut up my card and have not used them since. We broke down and not only could not get any assistance from Hertz at the time, I could not get anyone to engage with us once we came back and called the 800 # in the U.S. Frustrating and disappointing. I've spelled Hertz HURTS ever since. I expect a global company to provide customer service globally, they do not.
