The Company is Dirty
September 9, 2022

I rented from Hertz through the Uber program. They told me that they have issues with automatically debiting BofA, which is my bank but accepted me into the program. My money was always available for them to debit but sometimes they had issues but got their money regardless. They knew this about my bank before going into contract with me and accepted me into their rental program regardless. They then without warning took away my ability to drive through them which put me out of work. They then charged more than they should have. I tried to resolve things calmly but was treated poorly by customer service so went though the BBB only for them to now state I owed them a 1000 dollars after taking over 1400 from me, more than I owed. Every time I answered back through BBB they upped what I owed them. They were clearly punishing us for going through the BBB. They now say we owe them well over 2000 dollars. These people are dirty and think they are unaccountable but we will see. Stay away from Hertz!

Not costumer friendly
September 2, 2022

You prepay for a trip. Because of an emergency, you have to return the car a week early. Hertz does not refund you because you have prepaid. Yet, they rent your car already payed for to someone else… something is not right and will continue to report it to anyone who will hear it. Hertz/Thrifty is a non costumer friendly company

SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND AGGRAVATION. 1) Their phone tree (press the options) is amazingly inept. Total run around dead ends as it disconnects you! Again and again I called just to SPEAK WITH SOMEONE who could answer a complex question that was not on their "phone options". 2) On my agreement I was to drop off at a certain location and it was CLOSED on the weekends. So, I went ahead and dropped the car off with the lock box, and they AUTOMATICALLY charged me for the days the car was sitting in THEIR PARKING LOT until it opened on Monday. 3) TOLLS: the rental agent never told me about the transponder on the windshield (I thought it was for tracking their vehicles) or how it works. The New Hampshire DOT WOULD NOT ACCEPT PAYMENT for the toll because it didn't register the license plate within the 7 day window to pay the normal toll, so now I am being over charged and I have to call back and waste more time getting the extra charges taken off my credit card. 2 hours of learning all of this with multiple phone calls to hertz and NH DOT, which could have been circumvented if the Hertz Agent bothered to tell me about the transponder in the first place. Overall the worst rental car admin experience. The phone system being the most aggravating. I will pay the extra and go back to Enterprise. Can't imagine if the Hertz car broke down, what a nightmare it would be.

The Mexican insurance who is contracted by Hertz took from 12 am to 6:40am I was constantly calling botth hertz and GNP was on the middle of the road it was a precipice on both sides at 6:40 GNP sent a towing truck took me to Chihuahua and they told me it was 5 to 6 days to process the claim
I finish buying the 2 tires I rented the car 10 days couldn't use it for 2 and When I return the car today
They gave me $140.00 for the 2 tires and a I am sorry and that's all!

Probably this is one of the many reasons Hertz Dollar Thrifty has filed Chapter 11 CAN YOU BELIEVE they have paid a Software company to write in there software a charge for EARLY RETURN $25.00 and if you don't examine the final bill when you return your car or on your credit card statement which I would think 99% of the public do not they get away with over charging MILLIONS A DAY. Why doesn't the federal government do something about that.
EXAMINE YOUR BILL

Hertz is no longer the top car rental company! They became fraudulent and scam!

This was the worst car rental experience I had. I rented for 14 days. But due to personal issue, I need return the car just one hour after I picked up the car. I was getting into their store and asked first before I decided to return. After confirming I just need paid for one day and would get the rest 13-day money back, I did it. HOWEVER, right after I returned the car, front desk guy told me I need to call Hertz customer service to check the specific amount I will be refunded. Then I called Hertz Customer Service, then they told me they would not refund me because they already charged me. Then the rude customer service just hanged up my phone. I called in again and they hanged up again!? OMG HOW RIDICULOUS AND FRUSTRATED! Isn't it!?

1) I confirmed with Hertz staff before I returned the car. If they said no I couldn't get money back, I would definitely keep the car, not just throw away my money over $1,000!
2) The Hertz customer service is the worst worst worst in this whole world! They even don't want to explain but just be fraudulent. You need transfer tons of times and wait for more than half an hour to call in and then they will hang up. Super annoyed and unacceptable. No solution, no reply, no any communication they will do.

I have to get my money back this time. So I will do any either through my bank or file a lawsuit. But for everyone, please be caution! Hertz is becoming fraudulent and scam. Service is terrible, car is terrible, price is terrible, no reliable at all! Don't be cheated by them.

Now I am using Enterprise. They are definitely so much more reliable and providing much better service than Hertz. Their store supervisor promised me my money won't be charged if I want to return a few days ahead. Their car is even better and cleaner.

I hope no more people like me will be treated by Hertz. They are really terrible!

I travel a lot, and I've used multiple car rental companies over the years, so far I've had the worst experience with Hertz. I booked mine from one of the airports in Florida. First, while I was waiting in line, one of their customers came very unhappy trying to exchanging the car because the one he got the previous day broke down, and had to be towed away. Then, I finally got my rental, which went OK, after whole bunch of extra charges it was supposed to be close to $150 per day (for a small suv). I got stuck in traffic the next day when returning it, and was 20 min late (meaning 20 min after 24hours), So, I was charged another day of rental, even though I was told that they will only charge for an extra day if I was over an hour late. So, I was sure, I would not be charged any extra fees, until I checked my credit card charge. When, I called to speak with someone and tried to dispute extra charges, I was getting different information from different staff contradicting themselves about timing regulations. Of course I could not get any charges disputed, and ended up paying close to $300 for a day of car rental.
Felt like a scam. Do yourself a favor, and go somewhere else.

Saved My Trip!
August 19, 2022

On August 4,2022, I had the privilege of renting an SUV from "Andre" at 8000 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland. I am not a person that normally would write a review but this guy was fantastic! I originally had a reservation with a fairly new Enterprise location in Hyattsville, Md. Because it was closer to home. I personally went there the evening before (Aug 3) to confirm everything. Needless to say, the day of rental (Aug 4) there was no car of any type available! I was "livid" to say the least. After several calls to hopefully rent immediately, "Andre", at Hertz, said he could help. He advised me to call and make the rental request for an SUV because that was all he had. The reservation agent said there were no SUV's in the system for that location. I called Andre again, who gave me a direct number to call him after I made the reservation. I explained to him that the Hertz reservation system showed cars for rent but no SUV's even though he said he only has an SUV. Andre said, "do not worry, how soon can you get here, I will take care of it myself". An hour later, I was in an SUV and on my way. This was one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. This guy did not have to do this. I will always remember this experience and will make Hertz and this location my first choice as well as recommend this location any chance I get. Thanks, Andre!

Rented a car with Hertz Rental Cars for a Sunday out of Banff. Called to confirm 3 weeks early and they no longer are open in Banff on a Sunday. No alert came to me. I would have had to drive 2 hours or Uber 2 hours to get the car. Would not work with me to have the car dropped off to me. Pathetic service.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
August 17, 2022

Absolutely horrible company, unprofessionals who care only about profit!
Extremely poor customer service, unacceptable behavior.

We rented a car in Malta, someone scratched it while we had it parked and even though we had liability, they charged us the irrational amount of 450 euro! FOR A LITTLE SCRATCH!

We tried to communicate with them multiple times and after 15 emails sent from me and my family, they finally answered that they can do nothing when we requested to reconsider the amount that they charged us.
We attempted to find a solution with the central offices, but of course no one was willing to assist us.

The car is full of scratches, of course it will not be fixed, but still we got charged this excessive amount for a damage that we did not cause!

It's such a shame cause we had trusted your company many times, but I assure that my family, friends and me will never lease a car with you ever again.

Sincerely,

An extremely disappointed customer

I rented a car from them for 500 dollars for 2 weeks. When I'm about to get the car they ask for 408 dollars for liability insurance. They did not specifically explain to me that insurance is not included in the rental fee. I cannot cancel my booking since I already paid on advance

I rented my vehicle through Priceline. Came to a total of $245. The moment I went to go pick up the vehicle the representative told me that they had a Land Rover ready for me and that all I need to do was give my credit card to add a security deposit (standard procedure). Next, She printed a little sheet of paper highlighting my name and told me to make sure that my name was printed right. It was correct. She handed me the keys and told me I was all good to go. When trying to leave the parking garage, I was held for 20 minutes because the car I had wasn't supposedly the one I had been assigned. They were acting real suspicious and later let me leave. Everything was all good until the day before my return when they sent me a receipt of all the upgrades that "I had requested" It was insane. It was a total of $402 dollars on upgrades. I NEVER, ONCE said I was okay or wanted any upgrades. The receptionist added all those charges to my reservation without asking me. I contacted customer service and they basically ignored my emails and kept telling me that I asked for them. I WILL NEVER EVER be using this business again. They are scamming people, don't let it be you.

Never ever reserve with Hertz if you actually want a car. I made a reservation for a car through price line for a rental Car at Hertz in Sun City AZ. I had to get a ride there and was there before 9 am for my car rental time. When I was next in line the first thing they asked me was when I made my reservation. I told him two days ago. He then just ignored me and started taking to a guy who had just walked in the door and asked him when he made his reservation. He then told me there were no cars available and he didn't know when one would be coming in. I asked him why someone didn't call me and tell me there were no cars available, he had no answer. They take reservations and do not even care if there will be a car available or not. This is the worst run company I have ever seen. I should have checked their bad ratings before I booked. I had scheduled the car so that I could get to Prescott in time for my appointments there. When they said there was no car available I was in shock and disbelief that they could inconvenience someone in this way. They are rude and had no explanation except they did not have a car. I was extremely upset and had every right to be knowing that I had to cancel all of my appointments. Do not trust this horrible, uncaring company. I am surprised they are not out of Business with the way they totally disrespect their customers. They will be if I have anything to say and do about it, because I will be taking my complaint to the BBB and every place I can find to give them a bad review. You cannot trust this company, you have been forewarned. Its obvious that this is just the way they run they company, disgraceful!

On May 2,2022, I rented a car at Austin-Bergstrom Airport. My 85-yeard-old mom had fallen at a family event and was taken to the Trauma unit at St. David's South hospital in Austin Texas. My husband returned the original car we had for the weekend and I rented one for myself since I stayed longer to assist with my mom's care.

Since I did not know how long I would be there, I could not provide a length for rental to the agent. She told me that she would put down "one week" but that I could return it earlier and be charged for the days I used it.

I returned the car on May 4,2022. Upon receiving the receipt, I was charged for one whole week at a rate of $786.57. Since this ended up being the charge for just two days, I filed a dispute with my credit card company who went to bat for me. I did not expect to be charged for more than the days I used it.

As it turns out, the final negotiated amount came to $561.33. This is a reduction in charges of $224.33. However, this is still a very high amount for just two days.

I was never able to get ahold of anyone at Hertz by phone and received only an invoice with the adjusted amount. I'd like to say that I'll never rent from Hertz again, but maybe they don't care and it won't make a difference.

Be careful out there when dealing with Hertz rental.

Unprofessional "Runaround Crew"
August 4, 2022

Reserved a med sedan for 2 days to be picked up at St Louis International. Due to flight delays and cancellations arrived to pickup vehicle later than pickup time. Attendant rushed me to complete rental agreement then told me to choose any vehicle "on the other side of the building, the key is in it" and began to turn off lights in the office because it was 2 minutes past closing time. Went outside in a poorly lit parking lot and was yelled at by another male driving across the parking lot at a high rate of speed "lady get the car and go thru the gate, we closed." I opened the door of the vehicle I was standing beside, threw my bag across the seat, got in and found my way to the gate. Stopped and asked gate attendant for car seat which I had reserved. Another annoyed employee.
Again due to flight changes by the airlines had to leave earlier than planned. Called local office several times to inquire about returning vehicle, no answer. Called 800# explained about flight and that as of now I didn't have time to return to off-site rental office and that the vehicle would be left at the airport. Was told they would contact the office to have it picked up. 3 days later started receiving automated calls that vehicle was over due. Called 800# was told they would follow up with local rental office. Heard nothing. A week later I got 2 emailed receipts for 1117. 50 and 1217. 50 with the later being deducted from my account. Called 800#, they explained that "even though I had called, I was charged for 8 days rental because that's "probably how long it took them to recover the rental from the airport impound yard." 10 days later I receive letter stating my rental is overdue, yadda, yadda, yadda. Don't know about other locations but Hertz St Louis International is not customer friendly and CSR at the 800# are useless. Overall a disappointing experience for a 2022 rough running Malibu with rust on the trunk.

No car!
August 4, 2022

Scenario: 8 am Montreal airport with reservation made two months prior---"Sorry, no cars available" OK, Try 2 downtown locations. $41 taxi later and no cars there either. What to do? "I have a family reunion in rural Quebec and its impossible to get there without a car---I had planned this trip for months and flown from London for this?" (Side note) I could buy 50 new vehicles in the Montreal area today (if I had the money) so why can't Hertz purchase enough vehicles to meet their reservation demand? Airlines get much heat (fair enough) but major vehicle rental firms too provide dismal customer service and deserve equal pressure to improve their service. With a flight one can wait for the next flight. Without a vehicle (in spite of holding a valid reservation) the customer is completely stuck! BUY MORE VEHICLES TO MEET DEMAND!

Hertz Gatwick airport - manager Angelika Fryca.
This company is utterly disgraceful. They rent out damaged, dangerous, faulty motors.
We were allocated a car in June for 5 days. Upon collection there was an awful grinding noise when turning the steering wheel. Also a huge hole in the floor drivers side! We were in a rush and, of course, no staff to assist so had to take the car or risk being too late for our meeting. It was dangerous as the grinding noise was the brake pads and rear disc pads, confirmed by the Hertz mechanic upon return.
The manager grovelled her apologies and agreed that as Gold Star regular customers we should never have been issued a car in this condition and promised us a full refund. The refund was supposedly issued to us on 23rd June 2022.
Here is the section from her email confirming we would be refunded in full.

Myself and my City manager Julie have agreed that we will refund the rental as you are a very loyal customer to us over the years which we very much appreciate and both agree that this vehicle was not up to our standards.
The refund usually takes between 7-10 working days so you should see the amount refunded back into your bank account on the card which you have used.
Once again, apologies that the rental has not met your expectations we hope to see you again in the future.

At today's date - 29th July 2022 no refund has been received. I have sent numerous emails to Angelika, the customer service department, Hertz Uk ltd etc but they now refuse my refund or don't even bother to reply to me.
I have, today, placed this with the small claims court.
What a shame, Hertz was always our "Go to" rental company. How the mighty fall. They are a disgrace.

Today, I spoke with Tyshawna at the customer service center and she was amazing! I have to tell you, I have had a lot of stress lately, and after I hit a deer in the rental car, I was pretty devastated. Also, it seems as if I wasn't getting anywhere with any calls I was making to the insurance, etc, so I had expected that this call would be much the same as I had been experiencing- either not helpful at all or flat out rude. I was wrong. Tyshawna was extremely helpful, understanding, and pleasant. I hope Hertz knows that they have a good one with her!
