Car had a 0% oil life alert come on the first day. We were in a rural, remote part of the country with no cell service. Were lucky to get it to a mechanic and paid out of pocket. Called road-side and they told us to keep the receipt and file a claim later. Never created a ticket for my call. We never got refunded because we were supposed to call road-side and have a ticket # issued. We were misled by their representative, never refunded, returned the car early, AND got charged more. We spent hours on hold/countless emails and never any resolution. This company is a SCAM.
Walk the additional miles to any of car rental company. Crawl if necessary. It will be great for your health. This business behaves in the following dishonorable and likely unlawful ways:
They add unauthorized upsell options to your bill
They don't allow you to change your contract and remove these unauthorized upsell charges without physically going to the rental center.
They wouldn't allow you to change your payment card without physically going to the rental center.
They wouldn't allow you to split charges across multiple cards.
Their charges will hit your bank account as a debit before any other charges for businesses you actually did authorize
Don't believe anything customer service says on the phone regarding fees and costs. Never use their insurance, use your own. When you decline this and their road side assistance verify that these options are in fact declined on your receipt. Triple check your receipt before leaving the counter.
First and Last never again. I was refused service because my FL driver license do not work on there black scanner box, mind you we had everything paid for. We had a wedding to go and they just said No. No help what so ever. This was on 10/09/21 at 8:40 at South Carolina Greenville GSP Airport Beware Florida residents DO NOT RENT your car from this company. They don't care about customer service or to help you. We had no way of getting to our wedding this was so disappointing you would think it would be reliable. But GO somewhere else people.
The most unprofessional company the world has ever known. Wasted my $110 in Uber charges and 3 hours to and from Laurel office from Baltimore. I'm very disappointed. You have acted with a lot of impunity. While I may not matter to you now, I will spread the word about your gross inefficiency and incompetence to whoever I know.
DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ! Made 4 reservations for Appleton International airport in Wisconsin. When we arrived for our first trip we were told the location shut down permanently 2 weeks ago and we never received any notification for our paid in advance reservation. They tried to locate another car in the area but nothing was available. VERY unprofessional and when I asked for a supervisor they had none. This was booked direct with Hertz online 2 months prior. NEVER AGAIN. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ THEY ARE A MESS.

Sadly I've always used them while traveling over the years but this last trip they royally screwed my family and I over.
Here is a quick over view of what happened.
We rented a car back in March (2021) for our trip to Florida in July (2021). I was getting emails up to the day we went to pick up our rental reminding me about my rental pick up. We show up to pick up our rental and the gate is pulled down at the hertz pick up location, I speak with an attendant at Enterprise right next to the hertz window who proceeds to tell me that Hertz has been closed since 2020! So they took my money and reservation for a location that has not been operating in over a year.
I sat on the phone for 59 mins to finally get on the phone with someone who proceeded to tell me that this location is closed and not opening until December of 2021. So why did you take my reservation? The only help was I could drive 45 mins away to another Hertz location but I wouldn't be able to rent a vehicle unless I had a plane ticket bc that was the obligation in order to rent. So basically I had to ask for my money back bc they couldn't help me. She told me it would take 7-10 business days to receive my refund. I say ok but please send me a confirmation email, she told me "we do not do that."
Well 12 days go by and no refund.
So I message their social media accounts and another person by the name of Laura messages me back and says she has now confirmed my refund and it will take 5-7 business days.
Well now 10 days after the last message from Laura and still no refund.
I have message their social media accounts, no one wants to get back to me, so I called again today. Now another person is telling me they have successfully canceled my reservation and I will be refunded my money in 7-10 business days. Again she can not sent me any confirmation. So now I am currently on the phone waiting to speak with the billing department...
I have spoken with 3 people on the phone (lets just say this was a miracle in its self since you can wait hours to finally get a hold of someone)
I have spoken with god knows how many people through their social media accounts.

I paid over 700 dollars for a rental in Bozeman MT in June 2021. I was rented a 2021 suburban and the vehicle leaked gasoline from the time we picked it up until the time we dropped it off. We contacted the location we rented it from, the Jackson Hole location, and Hertz corporate and NO ONE offered any solution. I guess if the vehicle had caught fire, maybe that would have generated a response. I have emailed, called, and wrote Hertz corporate with NO response. I will be contacting the BBB as well. DO NOT USE!
This company employees only care about their own pockets and are liars. We got a rental through our insurance company at a rate of 40 per day... it was to include taxes and service fees. The lady offered us an upgrade at $1.50 per day plus the sakes taxes for that charge. After 11 days we should have been billed around $20. Instead we were billed $119. This was because the original car arranged didn't include the taxes and service fee. Tried to communicate with Hertz and only got passed between the local office and the customer care number. In addition a manager hung up on me. Please, if you can help it find another place. If not then read everything carefully and don't sign until you are sure you understand the cost. Shame on you Hertz for only worrying about commission and your own pockets. Deception is not good customer care practice.
I booked a car through Expedia.com at the same rate as if I booked directly with Hertz. The upside to using Expedia is that my info is all pre-programmed.
I called to simply modify the pick up time to be 3 hrs earlier. Hertz customer service said that since they could not see how much I paid on Expedia they could not help me.
When asked to speak to someone else they left me on hold for 50 min.
It appears that 3rd party booking sites are not favored and they will make sure you are treated like an inferior customer.
We went to see my brother in law and family, my brother in law is VERY sick. We needed a car rental, so we made a reservation to pick up in Fayetteville, Saturday, July 3rd.We arrived 15 mins after the time we were supposed to be there. The lady was still there, but REFUSED to clock back in to give us the rental, even though she was cleaning a car. I will DEFINITELY let EVERYONE I know, that Hertz employees have NO compassion whatsoever, shame on them! This will probably be the last time my husband gets to see his brother! I rented a Standard car (Jetta) from Hertz at the Des Moines International Airport. When I arrived at the Hertz counter, the counter staff told me all that was left was a Hyundai Accent. It was the worst rental car I've ever driven. I had to drive on I-80 for 2 hours and I felt unsafe and scared. The car felt like it would fly off the road and was all over the road with steering. I would never rent another tuna can from Hertz again. It was definitely my worst car rental experience and I expected more of a quality car from the top rental company.

I WILL NEVER RENT HERTZ THEM AGAIN.
I returned the car just 39 mins later than what I was supposed to bring they charged me $94.38 extra for the full day. Absolutely cheap and unfair people! Rent a Bicycle but not a car from them!
Two years ago I rented a car to be picked up in Paris. During my extended layover to Paris i noticed that I made the reservation to begin a day early. I called hertz to let them know that I was still coming and to please hold the car for me. I figured that I'd be responsible for the extra day but that was my problem. Hertz said that they couldn't do that. They needed to cancel the reservation, make a new one and that would cost me an extra $125 for the new shorter rental. I threatened to cancel the reservation and book with another company on principle. The agent gave me a number to call after the trip and said they could remove the extra charge so I stayed with Hertz. When my new credit card bill came I called the number and after 20 minutes they told me they could find no record of me being charged an extra $125. I told them I had the bill in hand but they said they couldn't remove a charge that they couldn't find. I suggested that I dispute it with my credit card company and they agreed. Citibank removed the charge but several weeks later they asked me to write a letter stating the above because hertz was still fighting with them about the charge. At this point hertz started sending me bills. I emailed hertz and citibank several times about this. Citibank agreed with me. Hertz did not. Last week i booked another trip to paris. I called hertz and asked if i could make a reservation as i do like the rental experience in paris. They said yes. I made a reservation. When i showed up to paris the agent said he could see my reservation but that hertz had black listed me and he couldn't rent me a car. I had to scramble but was able to get a car from another company. I really don't mind that i was blacklisted but the way this entire situation was handled by hertz was as bad as you can get. Very disappointed in how i was treated. Be warned.
I called more than ten times in one day and when I did get an answer the guy was Very RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL. I asked for the manager and he continued to say they don't have managers so j asked for a supervisor and started the same thing. I've never been so ANGRY with a company in my life. I need to extend my car but I can't get anyone on the phone for the past two days. I feel like they're trying to take up the price like I didn't call. Now another RUDE guy answers the phone since I refused to hang up the call. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE.IM NOT SURE OF WHERE THEIR LOCATED since the agent wouldn't answer that question for some reason. Now I'm sitting on hold because they want me to hang up. I wish Enterprise was closer because they never disappoint.
If I could give a Zero I would. I rented a vehicle, was told by the employee behind the counter to select a car from the Gold Row. I showed the attendant in the parking garage my pamphlet marked Gold and he put me in a Nissan Rogue. When I got to the check out booth, I was told I was in the wrong vehicle and either needed to pay $15.00 extra a day or back up the vehicle had a line of seven cars behind me. I asked the booth attendant to simply drive it around and get the "right" vehicle, and she said no. She then said I could pay $10.00 extra per day (scam!). I decided to leave and upon return, take photos of the Gold Row with Nissan Rouges in them, which I did. Then call Hertz to be refunded the. They told me that since I was in the wrong vehicle class (guess I am a supposed to know that and not the Hertz employee that sent me to the Gold Row) the charges hold. So, the incompetency of their employees let to additional charges for me. I, nor my family will never rent a vehicle from Hertz again. Buyer Beware!

Return was another hassle. Car rental in my own town but had to drive a hour to return somewhere else because ours was closed on Sunday.
Well the place they sent me was closed and the lock box was jammed.

I am not one to write a bad review because I understand the hindrances of running a business. I have been waiting for almost 2 hours to rent my car, out in 80 degree weather with 2 toddlers. There is no AC, no working water faucets and 2 people with at least 50 people outside⦠this is a really bad experience. I am so dissatisfied. We were going to pay $600 for a rental we are now going to Uber.
I would like to recognize, and commend the outstanding customer service at the DCA location for Hertz. The young lady named Markata was very nice, kind, knowledgeable, and considerate. Me and my daughter enjoyed her sweet, kind, and respectful services. We do appreciate Markata so much with her over and beyond great hospitality! She is a STAR! Thanks Hertz for hiring her.
I booked a car with Hertz in the middle of the rental car shortage. I booked it two months out. I ended up having to cancel it 35 days prior to my trip. I was charged $50 to cancel when I know full well they will turn around and rent that car without my discounts at twice the price. During Covid, most companies are allowing for cancellations without penalty but not Hertz! I tried to call and argue the fee but they were going to charge me 5% of my rental fee to speak to someone on the phone. Never again. Thank God for Turo.
