What a complete bunch of scammers! We hired a car from Edinburgh airport (for the third time) but my credit card was charged the £1505 deposit the day we collected the car 14/5/25. Upon returning the car on 21/5/25 we were told the deposit would be returned within 7-30 days. In the meantime I called the office and was told they couldn't say when we would be reimbursed but to email them, which I did but received a standard response telling not to email! On 20/6/25 I again emailed asking where my refund was but received no reply. After a further week I eventually had my bank place the charge into dispute. It has since taken until 12/8/25 to be refunded. I have hired cars in various locations over many years but have NEVER actually been charged the deposit, just had it held against my card and then released upon the return of the vehicle undamaged. This company had £1505 of my money for three months and I am still doubtful if I would have it now had I not involved my bank. Appalling customer service and a totally underhand way to deal with customers. They may be cheap but as they say "you get what you pay for". Our advice is to NOT TOUCH THIS COMPANY WITH A BARGE POLE!"

Make sure you have a visa card or prepare for big extra costs. My visa debit wasn't accepted and because of not having a credit card I then had to pay a no excess insurance daily charge. Visa debit is accepted worldwide as an alternative to a visa credit card yet this company has no alternate way to pay.

Pick up and drop off was easy, lovely lady checked me in very friendly and helpful. Shuttle bus was easy to use.

I had a positive experience at the Manchester location for my visit to that area for a week. I had no problems with the car or with check in to pick up the rental. The shuttle service from and to the airport, made the trip easier.

Answer: DON'T do it. They advertise low and sting you at the counter! Clerks hard sell additional insurance (they get a commission). In Glasgow, Scotland this last August, they tried to get me to pay $800 in insurance to cover a ten day rental that was about $35 a day! Many people have posted about scams where they charged unsuspecting customers for "damages" that were already on the car but the customer may not notice, like a tiny chip in the windshield or a small scratch on the door edge.
Answer: Speeding/parking tickets and police action are slow. They keep the deposit until they are sure there will be no problems with any of those costs. (and yeah, would be speeding fine + massive green motion fee).

I can confirm that security deposits are automatically released by Green Motion on the last day of your rental after it has been established that the rental vehicle has been returned in the same condition as it was provided, and there are no further outstanding charges. Whilst in most cases this is available again within 10 working days, unfortunately, this can take up to 30 days depending on the bank that you use. We suggest that you contact your bank as they may be able to speed this process up for you. Green Motion's policy is to use pre-authorised transactions for our security deposits, which ring-fence the amount within your account, not charge it. This pre-authorised transaction will allow us to make charges if necessary at the end of the rental, but unless this occurs no money will leave your account. Due to the nature of this transaction, the release of these funds may not show on your bank statement as a separate transaction. If you believe that you have been charged your security deposit, please contact your bank and ask them to provide proof of the transaction as a charge on the first day of your rental so that we can look further into this for you. If this amount is still not available in your account after 30 days from the last day of your rental, please contact us at [email protected]. Answer: I believe Green Motion are a perfectly fair and respectful company. I suspect you didn't read their Ts&Cs properly. The two customers being served while I was collecting my car had also not read/understood the conditions and were caught by surprise. The representative dealt with them firmly but fairly.
