I have used Expedia for booking hotels and it works well since they will give you an overview of all of the hotels and prices in the area. However, if you have a hotel card (for instance Choice Rewards), they will not give you points on an Expedia purchase.
I used to use Expedia quite a bit. About 2 years ago I had a very bad experience with them. We scheduled a big vacation through them. When we got confirmation, a few days before leaving, there was a mistake in our plane tickets. They separated the 3 of us. Leaving my 8 year old daughter to sit by herself, which is NOT what we were told by the Expedia person that booked us. When trying to reach Expedia by phone I spent literally HOURS on the phone getting left on hold, passed around. & disconnected several times... with no call back. I was nice to the people that I talked to on the phone, although I was extremely frustrated. I never did get to talk to anyone who would/could help me. And I never did get a response or apology from Expedia when I emailed them my complaint. Such horrible customer service. However, after all that, I will say that I still use their site to find what I'm looking for, then I book elsewhere. Their webpage is very easy to navigate & is very informative. I wish that i didn't have such a bad experience with them.
Expedia's customer service is not one of there priorities. Agents are like talking to robots and you can find the same deals doing travel accommodations your self. While trying to change a flight date/time that was a clear mistake, I tried talking with someone from corporate because the agents either did not speak English well enough to understand or they could not say anything besides this is our policy. Once a corporate representative was available to talk, he made it clear that Expedia was a business and their motive was to make money and not make customers happy. These exact words came out of a corporate officers mouth. I would recommend spending 5 extra minutes to book flights and hotels your self.
I like shopping on Expedia but their customer service can be better especially for their loyal customers.
I am forced to travel a lot because of my business nature so I praqctically have to use some sort of a website like expedia is. I make most of my bookings through them and I am satisfied 99 percent of the time. I would recommend it for sure!
Usually very easy to book a flight - sometimes the web site can be a bit tedious but service is very good and I can generally find a cheap flight.

Hi ki use to check fares but never use them I find my travel agent gets me equal, or better prices. Also, if you trip, has multiple kegs or is real long like overseas best book those legs seperatly yourself you will save hundreds if not more

I have used this site since 2007 and always had amazing travel. Packages are cheap and convenient.
We've used Expedia for family holiday package and then just for flights or hotels. Our experience with holiday packages is that there always seems to be details lacking, customer service doesn't seem to know what is going on when I have called a few times and the package isn't always as advertised.
Now booking just flights or hotels, I have never had a problem. Probably because these are the easiest bookings and I have never needed to call into customer service for this.
Customer service here is a joke but I still use it because the price is right. I even purchased the insurance but it was a ridiculous hassle. My experience is that if you are willing to gamble that you will use the tickets for the exact time and date and won't ever have emergencies then it's worth it.

Expedia works well and is pretty legit, but if you look around and are flexible, you can probably find better rates.
Not all the places are the greatest so just make sure if it's cheaper to know what type of place it is.
I made a reservation for a London hotel accidentally on the right days, wrong month. This evening the hotel said ok to changing the dates. They needed a modification from Expedia. Two times I called and got told Expedia’s manager would fix it. I felt uneasy about it so I called back again, now they want to charge me 2 hundred dollars more even though the hotel manager said, there was no change of the price. Expedia was actually trying to charge me more, than the hotel. I was better off taking the loss and going through the hotel directly. By the way they left me on hold for over 25 minutes not to deal with me. They said they did what was policy.
I will NEVER use Expedia again. I bought a flight from Quito to the Galapagos for $168, which I thought was a great deal. When I was about to leave the Galapagos, LAN charged me ANOTHER $168 to leave because Expedia sold me a ticket that was only for Ecuadorian citizens. LAN's tickets clearly say on their website that the tickets at that price are only for Ecuadorian citizens, but NO WHERE on Expedia's site when buying the tickets does it say that only Ecuadorian's can buy them. Therefore I was stranded and had to PAY DOUBLE to leave. I could not afford to go at the more expensive price and would have not have gone if I had known. Expedia will not help me out at all and claims it is an "additional fee" from the airline, however Expedia sold and American citizen, unknown to me, a ticket only Ecuadorian's can buy and I had to pay out of pocket. This is absolutely ridiculous. DO NOT BUY FROM EXPEDIA!

I haven't tried them in a couple of years. Every time I did, the plane tickets that I had selected would not be available by the time I made it through the checkout process (less than 15 minutes from selecting the ticket to submitting payment information). I gave up and quit trying to use them. If they have worked out that bug, it might be a good option.
Answer: You were lucky to get through to anyone at all at Expedia. I've spent hours and hours and hours over three days trying to get through to anyone on their customer service phone line, their chat line and their e-mail, all to no avail. They really owe their customers much better customer service.
Answer: Demand to speak to a Supervisor though you better have time because it will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the Supervisor does nothing or little to nothing to resolve your concern, ask to speak to a manager. Get ready to really wait. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "WE'LL HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU WITHIN 24 to 48 HOURS" When you figure out you don't matter, sit down and right a review!
