Expedia Reviews Summary

Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

Terrible company
February 25, 2022

We cancelled a flight because of Covid... we got an extension, but it doesn't work for us... basically the said too bad... use it or lose it and no refund... I am military and won't be home until after the extension... they said sorry, I will lose it... unwilling to help, they pocket the money... even reaching out to the executives... no dice... you think a guy who makes between 2-4 million a year would have some passion and heart for a family could make an exception for $950... guess not... thanks Peter Kern CEO

My flight got canceled so I gave them 24 hours notice that I was not able to check in on my agreed date but would be 24 hours late. They told me too bad they were charging me anyway. I will never use them again. They falsely advertise cancelations are available but canceled flights do not count. My confirmation number is *******. The prompt does not allow me to enter my proof.

I have been using Expedia for 12 years but now Expedia is implementing a new policy. You start making your reservation for flight, hotel or car rental and during that process they show you a total amount (how much is gonna cost you) but before you start with the payment they send a message saying this:
We hate when this happens
The price of your trip has changed from $630.81 to $1083. 40. Rates can change frequently. Book now to lock in this price.
So whoever created this new policy is totally nuts. You are gonna lose clients who has been loyal for years.
Anyways this is unacceptable and authorities should do something on this matter. Expedia is scamming people and wasting everybody's time.

Worst experience ever
February 5, 2022

Just had the WORST experience with Expedia. I purchased the protection plan when booking my trip, and unfortunately a couple of days after booking my trip (and 10 days before our trip) I got sick and we had to cancel our trip. Called Expedia (1.5 hour hold) to say we wanted to cancel and get our refund (because, protection plan) and after they called the hotel and airline the Expedia representative asks if we also want our insurance plan refunded. My husband was confused and the guy made it seem like we were supposed to get refunded for that too so he refunded it (AKA - HE CANCELLED AND REFUNDED OUR PROTECTION PLAN and then tried to say we couldn't get anything refunded because they cancelled our protection plan!). What? I told you I wanted my trip refunded. They tried to confuse and trick us into getting the protection plan refunded (cancelled) so that they didn't have to refund us. been on hold with their insurance provider now for another hour and was told there was nothing they could do because we cancelled our protection plan. After grabbing the phone and yelling at the guy, he's going to "call the hotel and airline in the morning" but he has to "follow the policy" and it's up to the hotel and airlines discretion now. Absolutely ridiculous and dishonest.

Awful experience and useless customer support
January 29, 2022

Very bad experience and absolutely unhelpful customer service, still trying to get a refund and complain. I booked car rental and car insurance through expedia, when I turned up to pick up the car, the car rental company said that they do not accept expedia insurances and asked to leave a deposit for *******$. Of course, I did not want to do that, but they provided no other choice. I had to leave without a car and my holiday has been ruined. Never again will book through them

I booked a trip through Expedia to Punta Cana. When I arrived at Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana it was run down and below my standards. I wanted to upgrade (and willing to pay more) to a newer hotel within the Dreams chain. Dreams said I had to make the change through Expedia. I called Expedia for assistance. I was put on hold 3 times for at least 10 minutes each time. I was hung up on after being transferred 3 times. Finally, when I started to yell at the customer service rep he stayed on the phone with me. He said he kept trying to call Dreams and they were hanging up on him. He said there was no availability at the Dreams I wanted. Even though a Dreams rep said there was. So I asked him to find me any other hotel that was newer than the one I was staying at. He said his system would only find hotels that were within 5 miles of my existing hotel. He said his computer was running slow. He just kept giving one excuse after another. I was so frustrated with him because I was on the phone with him for an hour and he was not finding a hotel for me. I had spent a total of 2 hours trying to get Expedia to help transfer hotels. After 2 hours of trying to work with them on the phone and getting nowhere and excuse after excuse. I finally gave up. I will never book my travel through Expedia.

My family and I arrived at the resort very excited for the week ahead of us. Upon arrival when checking in, we were told our reservations (made through Expedia by the way), only had 2 of us listed. I explained to the resort that I booked this room for 4 people and showed the guy checking us in where I had requested that AND Expedia confirmed that. The resort would not listen and advised we would have pay MORE than double what we already had to even get in. Later we found out that the additional cost they said it would be to get in, was actually even HIGHER, once we checked our statements to later prove we were even charged. That's how the vacation started. Lucky we could even come up with the extra money. I'm sure not everyone would be able to do that right on the spot. Very rough start. The next day we went to our concierge desk to set up our dinners. We were told that every dinner needed a reservation and we can only eat at the a la carte restaurants for 2-3 nights if we are staying for 6 nights. So, the idea of this resort being truly ‘All-Inclusive' is really not the total truth. We then had to compromise and pick a couple restaurants and have the buffet for the other nights. We couldn't even get into the restaurants we wanted because they said they were full. Another not so pleasant surprise. The buffets didn't blow me away by any means and didn't always have all the food when you went. One area of the pool near the bathrooms always smelt horrible. Hard to find seats at the pool and beach. You have to get up around 5 AM and go claim seats if you want good seats at the pool. We were also told by our concierge that we had a $100 credit and could use that in the gift shop. So, we took the kids, picked out some souvenirs and charged it to our room as they said. When we went to check out, guess what, there was no credit. We had to pay out of pocket. And finally, our departing gift was food poisoning. On the last night we were there, we ate at the Italian restaurant and my daughter and I suffered with vomiting and diarrhea for a couple days after. Now we are trying to work out the additional surprise charges when we checked in with both Expedia and the resort. The resort is telling Expedia they cannot find the additional charges, which we sent them proof including the receipts and statements. No response to date. Go figure. Hopefully, I will be able to work this out with the resort and Expedia without using others means like the Better Business Bureau or additional social media platforms. And hopefully no one else has to go through this.

Do not trust Expedia
January 8, 2022

Do not trust Expedia

I had to cancel an American Airlines flight that was booked through Expedia. After a two hour wait I spoke with a representative called Tiena. I printed a copy of our booking through Expedia which clearly stated that " Tickets are refundable".

After communication between herself and her supervisor for an additional 45 minutes her supervisor Moh A. Told her that she could only give us a partial refund and a credit for part of our trip.

Not only that, our refund would take 8 to 12 weeks. The remainder of our credit would have to be used within 12 months. Nowhere in their communication did it state a partial refund with a credit balance remaining with the airline.

DO NOT use this website to book your tickets or flights.

They simply do not follow their own communication to clients.

Of course 100 excuses!

Never using them again
January 7, 2022

Expedia is terrible, I made the mistake of booking with them one time and will never do it again. I don't usually take the time to review things but I couldn't figure out how to do it on their website so I'm going everywhere else.

Nothing on the website works, so you'll need to call customer service for everything and sit on the phone for 45+ minutes, most of it on hold. Everyone I've talked to in customer service was professional and very kind to me, unfortunately they are not able to do much to help you. They couldn't even send me a receipt for a flight I paid for, what type of business does that? Everything was as difficult as possible and I hope that other people read this and don't waste their time and energy

Use Expedia maybe to find good rates but BOOK DIRECTLY with hotel! I had a flight cancel over Christmas and could not make it to my hotel. I called the hotel and they understood but lacked since Expedia led he reservation, the hotel could not cancel. Expedia basically said, "too bad, so sad" and charged me 1 night lodging while claiming it was the hotel's fault! What a joke. Book directly, if anything goes wrong, you will be glad you did!

Expedia
January 6, 2022

Expedia. Is so misleading. I have been screwed twice by them. The insurance is a scam. I tried to cancel a hotel because of covid. I had bought the insurance just in case I needed to cancel. And then when I had to. You can't get them to do a thing about it. They promised to return phone calls and never do. They give you lines that they can't get a hold of the hotel. It's like they try to stall up to the last minute when it's to late. I work over a week trying to get some done. In my view they are a dishonest company never again will I use them and surely will share my views with Everyone I know.

Rented a car from them with insurance included but when I got there, the company said I needed a letter stating that the card covered the insurance. I never herd of this so did not have it. Have rented from other companies where they knew the card covered it. They raised the rate to almost double so went somewhere else for cheaper. I cancelled the charge and called Expedia which told me there was nothing they could do about it. Have never and will never use them again.

My worst experience
January 1, 2022

I used Expedia to book a round trip flight from Bakersfield to Sacramento. The cost was $230.00. Less than 30 minutes before the scheduled departure, the flight was canceled. Expedia refused me a refund and instead offered me a worthless coupon. In the small print of their contract I learned that I had waived any legal recourse. I attempted arbitration. The filing fee: $200.00. I doubt Expedia loses very often. I wouldn't recommend this company to my most hated enemy.

Making Travel as Convoluted as Possible!
December 29, 2021

Currently going on a full hour of being on hold with customer service. Had to cancel a flight due to COVID, expired within a year so I needed to use it despite the pandemic getting worse. Now I have to cancel for a second time because my academic conference was cancelled again. But the rebooked flight isn't showing up on my upcoming trips and no one at expedia can find it, even though I'm still getting email confirmations about changes to my flight so I'm definitely booked for it. So their system is just completely confusing to even them. Or they're lying? I have about $450 tied up in these "lost" flights, so that'll be really fun to deal with. And for some reason expedia doesn't let you rebook flights yourself. You HAVE to call them and wait on hold and let them mess up everything in the meantime. Also funny, I don't know if the associates get commission for screwing people over but I was put on the phone with someone who kept insisting that they couldn't see the same flight options as me and the cheapest they could find was about $140 more expensive than what I had credit for. But there were flights with other carriers that were less than $140 total! So it was either pay more to use my credit or pay less and completely lose my credit. What a joke of a company. At least their hold music is terrible... oh, wait, that's still a negative. Nothing good to say!
