Expedia Reviews Summary

Expedia's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and issues with booking accuracy. Many customers report difficulties in reaching live support, leading to frustrations over incorrect reservations, unexpected charges, and inadequate responses to cancellations. While some users appreciate the variety of options available through the platform, the overall sentiment reflects a lack of trust due to perceived unethical practices and inadequate support during critical situations. This feedback suggests a pressing need for Expedia to enhance its customer service responsiveness and transparency to rebuild consumer confidence.

Booked a flight, purchased the 'travel protection' and then had to cancel 4 days before the flight. Turns out the 'travel protection' is actually a narrowly defined 'travel insurance' without any eligibility for a refund of the fair. This is a deceptive and predatory business practice. To add insult to injury neither Expedia or AIG Travel Guard (the Insurance Co) have adequately trained staff to clearly navigate this issue and provide any level of acceptable service. Truly a disappointment from organization that projects itself as a market leader.

Horrible customer service
April 4, 2022

I have used Expedia no less then 10 times this year, I will never use them again. Wife and teenage daughter arrived at a hotel purchased through Expedia found bugs in the room, stains on the bed covers, trash in the microwave and a shirtless man began banging on their door who also had no shoes on and appeared to be homeless. I told her to leave and I would call Expedia. They refused to help me in anyway and refused to issue a refund even after I spent an hour on the phone with them and immediately purchased another room for my wife and daughter through Expedia. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.

I'm not the type to write reviews, but this situation need to be discussed.

I booked a flight back in 2021 and had to canceled it because of covid issues. I was confirmed that I would have a travel credit that would work with Air Canada only. That credit was supposed to be seen in my app.

I was looking for a new flight for the summer but I couldn't find my credit on the app, so I called the French customer service. A very respectful men (I don't know his name because they don't present themself to you when you call) answered all my questions and said that he would send me an email to collect my travel credit. Nothing... I didn't receive that email... so I called back the next day and I talk to a young lady (again, I don't know her name). She said that it was not true that my credit was only available to use by phone with them, but first this is not what I was told before, second, I know what I have consent with the term and condition, no need to yell at me by the phone while I was trying to understand why the other two persons said the exact opposite of what she said to me. I felt very disrespected by her attitude that I decided to end this conversation and hung up the phone... I always use Expedia for my trip since I'm young with my family but this type of attitude is note something I want to encourage.

Also, I would like an explanation on why the flight I see on the web site are not available for my travel credit. She said they had a different system than the web site or something like that. I did not feel like it was trustable. I asked if I could have a visual support of what she was seeing and she refused...

I really want to use my credit to not lose that money but this bad experience do not place me in a confortable position anymore.

I discovered from other sites that Expedia makes a practice of monitoring computer information and the more a user returns and clicks on property/package, they increase the price at check-out. This was our experience - classic bait & switch.

The other issue was that when selecting an option (I. E. All-Inclusive - $190) it shows up at 3-4 times higher ( I. E. $190 selected - calculation of $685). We tried to see if was related to days of stay, but that wasn't it. And of course, they are impossible to contact (their "chat" is not connected to a person but template responses). I used Expedia a few years ago without incident, but the company has changed. Very unfortunate. Now on to book with an ethical competitor.

Really don't know where to start with Expedia, these guys are a terrible Business with little to no 'Genuine' interest in customer service or empathy.
The back end of 2021 we had a really nice place booked for weekend but sadly caught covid.
Being honest and genuine people, we contacted the hotel in question and Expedia to advise them of our condition.
Expedia initially recommended a refund or amendment, but as we really wanted to go we opted for an amendment... this is where is started and continued to go terribly wrong.
Put into perspective, have 16 contact periods between December and March to try and get an amendment.
The hotel in question was pitiful, and a second review will follow. But Expedia were just not good enough! I am out of pocket with absolutely no contact whatsoever. Will be reporting this to consumer affairs.

The most laughable part to this, is their affiliation with feefo to highlight 'genuine reviews'... these are about as Genuine as Vladimir Putin!

LIARS
March 17, 2022

Ill speak to several agents and theyll all tell me the previous one was lying. They beat around the bush. Agent MOHAMED lied and was so rude. Credits that were on my account for 1.5+ years no issues MAGICALLY disappeared when chatting with him. He replied AND I QUOTE "just ignore it", "there is no point in this" "im not arguing about this". I have alllll the transcripts from our chat. He wouldnt connect me to a supervisor so i called expedias number and low and behold, HE WAS LYING. Never ever ever ever use expedia.

The worst!
March 16, 2022

I had the need to add a night to my original reservation... I called Expedia, I got "Jim" on the line who specifically told me that the room was not available. I called the hotel from my cell while "Jim" was on my landline, the hotel told me "Yes sir, the room is available, please add the night to your reservation with Expedia". I told that to "Jim" who again told me, "Well, shir, I not be sheeing room is abailable". I hung up with "Jim". I went to Expedia. Com, guess what, it showed the room is available! So I went to the chat box, I had then chatted with "Nitish". Now "Nitish" told me, quite clearly, there is a charge/penalty to change the reservation. Say what? End chat. I went to priceline.com, I booked the room. The same hotel, a day earlier for arrival, confirmed the room, same room... Expedia is like the wind, and the wind blows.

Zero Customer Service
March 16, 2022

I have used Expedia for 22 years, however, will no longer use them again as there is no benefit to using them as a booking agent when you cannot talk to a real person about a flight discrepancy. They have no standing with the airlines when flights are drastically changed (ie 24 hour delays) and can do nothing for you. It is better to book through the airlines directly so that they are liable to answer to you for flight changes and cancellations. Expedia cannot help and it is extremely frustrating not having a real person to talk to and initially having to deal with a 'virtual agent'. I logged a issue a week ago and was told that I would hear back from someone within 24 hours and heard nothing. I had to log the call again, even though the case number was given as a reference and had to explain the situation all over again. Very frustrating. My frustration is due to booking an international return ticket which has since been changed by Emirates with a 22 hour delay in Dubai without any compensation to me for the inconvenience of loosing a day of my holiday, needing to pay for somewhere to sleep while I wait for my next flight he following day as well as airport meals ect and a ripple affect of it affecting my onward domestic flights. Not good enough and not good service at all. There is no benefit to booking through Expedia if they can do nothing to help but take my payment and say we apologize for the inconvenience.

Expedia sucks
March 14, 2022

Booked a trip to London in November 2020 and had to cancel due to Covid but I was assured by Expedia customer service that I would get flight credits but I had a year to use them. They don't tell you that it's a year from the original purchase date so I only had 4 months to use them. Now came the worst part… trying to book a trip using those flight credit's! I spent literally hours on the phone over three days trying get my trip booked. Expedia would tell me to call American Airlines and they would tell me to call Expedia. Expedia wanted to charge another $4000 for just the flights on top of my $3200 flight credit. In the end It was cheaper to rebook the entire trip not using the credits which I did. But that $3200 is just gone and Expedia couldn't care less. This trip will be the last time I will ever use them and I will trash talk them to anyone that will listen!

Horrible
March 14, 2022

I would never recommend these people. Booked a room and date was incorrect. Called immediately after the mistake and after being on hold for over an hour, finally get some guy on the line who was almost impossible to understand. Was told there was nothing they could do, no refund, no changing reservation to correct dates, just too bad you lost your money. Too bad there isn't a zero star option.

Threatening to Cancel my Vacation
March 13, 2022

I have had a confirmed itinerary for over 6 months, now Expedia is threatening to cancel it 1 month before I leave because the said my flight was cancelled and they can't find another... PLENTY of upgraded seats available but they would rather watch me loose my whole vacation (and all the deposits) than do the right thing and fix this.

Avoid at all costs
March 12, 2022

Do not, under any circumstances, use Expedia. We had to cancel flights at Christmas time due to Omicron and were given flight credits. When we tried to redeem them on the app - in January, for travel in summer - it only allowed for one-way bookings. When I logged into the desktop version, it has the same problem. Turning then to the chat bot for help, that is also thoroughly useless. If you want any hope of actual help, you need to ask for a live agent (not that you can speak to them - it's still on chat). So having worked out where we want to go and when, I have spent no less than three hours (literally) online only to be told the 'fare base' rules for our flight credits don't allow that. When I asked "what do they allow", all the agent can say is "pick a different date or destination" (which is not an answer to the question). In sum, no one is able to help you. This is a catastrophically horrible customer experience. Avoid this company like the plague.

I booked travel and car rental on Expedia. I recieved several charges on my credit card from Expedia. I called and was told by expedia that it was the insurance company's charge. I called the insurance company and they said it was not their charge. I tried the virtual email and could not get an answer it. On another day I emailed, got transfered 3 times to different departments. They could not answer the question and said that I had only been charged once, when my credit card shows two unknown charges.
After two days of trying to resolve this, I had to give up. Apparantly expedia could not determine what the charges were for and denied that they charged me twice.

I booked a flight and stay through Expedia.com, I later went on online chat with an Expedia representative to cancel the stay, the rep stated he needed to call the motel first, then he came back on the line to say that the motel would issue a full refund with no penalties. I thought this was outstanding! Now, 2 plus weeks later, I got on another chat with Expedia again to inquire about the status of my refund, the agent stated he needed to speak with the hotel again, then they came back on the line saying they would get back to me within 24 hours via email. Yesterday i received a short email simply stating the motel has decided not to issue a refund. No explanation, nothing? I tried to email them back asking what the change is? No reply? I do have a screenshot of my original conversation with the online chat agent stating that the motel agreed to a refund.

Expedia is horrible! People, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT BUY TICKETS or TRAVEL INSURANCE with this company! Buyer beware!

I have been in hold for hours to change my flight, so far its been days and nobody can help me, I called the airline and they have flights available on the day I selected but they can't help me because I bought my stupid tickets thru fricking EXPEDIA so they need to make the change, I call, put on hold for hours, get transfer and then they hung up on me, then I request someone to call me, I get a call only for the agent to transfer me to no one and the whole process starts again, no response to emails, it's a nightmare, so frustrating and they of course are holding my money hostage because they won't refund me the money, just a credit... my travel day is till July, I'm so so sorry I used EXPEDIA but NEVER EVER AGAIN... I hate them...

All peachy until you encounter issues
March 6, 2022

I've paid slightly more to specifically buy from Expedia but when it comes to the customers service, you are as screwed as if you bought from any other joe.
The customers service seems to be outsourced, and that means you will get no help or protection for your tickets.

Refund woes
March 5, 2022

We were unable to take our trip April 22nd of last year due to Covid. We have travel credit in the amount of $1,191.39 from 3 tickets that we were unable to use. The email we rec'd from Expedia says we have 1 year to use the credit. When I went to book my trip, using my credit, the site said I had to complete my trip by March 4, which is not 1 year from April 22. They referred me to American Airlines, who referred me back to Expedia, both saying that they didn't "own" the tickets and that there was nothing that they could do for me, in spite of the new policy of extending "use by" dates due to Covid. Will not be using their "services" again!

Terrible service
March 4, 2022

About a moth ago, I booked a hotel for me and my girlfriends to go on a trip for March break. I checked three, maybe even four times to be sure that I had all the dates correct; but once I booked it, there must have been a glitch and changed my date for two days after I booked it.
I never even found out until a few days ago, when I got an email saying "How was your stay?" But the thing is, I never staid in the hotel at all.
At the moment I'm trying to get a refund on the roughly $500 I spent, and am praying that I'll get at least some of it back. And if it doesn't work, then I'll essentially be punished for a mistake in which Expedia made.
I will tell anyone and everyone who is planning to use Expedia for their booking to not bother, and to go to another site. Expedia is terrible, do not use it for your booking platform.

Expedia Lacks Customer Service
February 27, 2022

I have been an Expedia user for over 15 years, so why the bad review? I like the app for easily finding cars and flights, but when there is an issue, that is when their service falls off the rails. Try to use your airline credit - impossible. There automated chat service will eventually get you to a person, who will either be unable to help or request you call in. When you call in you could have 2 plus hour wait. No problem - they will call you back, and be equally unhelpful. When there are no problems, Expedia is good to use. Problems happen though when you travel and that is when you find it would have been much better to have worked direct with the car rental company or airline. Money is a one way road with Expedia. They will do everything they can to never refund you and have every reason not to. Drop the convenience of Expedia and just use the airline, hotel or rental company direct. Maybe Expedia will get the message and start providing customer service, but I would doubt it after seeing this trend for well over a decade.
