The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

Consignor lost money on items and EBTH made money by ripping off the buyer with outrageous shipping charges/
Do not get sucked in. Do not give credit card info. Never know when an item will be shipped, and never know when they are going to bill your card. Condition of items is many times very bad. Complete rip off company.
I have bought many things from them. I've bought some jewelry and it never looks as nice as the pictures. I have purchased many other things. Over a month ago I bid and won floor tiles. After a month I emailed them asking for the shipping status. I got a reply saying they would look into it. They did keep communicating daily, their last email asked if I wanted a refund, because they couldn't locate the boxes of tile. I'm upset, because I didn't hear from them for over a month. They should have reached out to me promptly. No follow through! Also, how can they lose large boxes. I love many of the items they sell, but the shipping is simply unreal! So many times I spent more on shipping than on the item I won. I tried yelping this to let other buyers beware, but I couldn't find them on Yelp.
My selling experience was almost 100% negative. I had a collection of miniature houses, Not dollhouses, more like architectural models from the early 1900s-1920s. I provided detailed description information, and pointed out some of the more significant details, as these were items that I was knowledgeable about. The EBTH representative gushed over how nice they were and promised that they would be sold as a collection, perhaps even featured in a special auction. I was also told that I would be notified when the items were available for bidding, so that I could watch there progress. HOWEVER:
The items were not sold as a collection, but separated and sold at different dates
They were not described as "miniature houses" "architechtural models" or even doll houses. They were described as a "maquette of a house". Someone at EBTH chose to flaunt their rather pretentious vocabulary rather than provide a description that would actually benefit the seller. In fact all of the relevant details and history that I provided was ignored.
In the end, I was never told that the items were being sold, and even though I searched their sales, the houses were listed so poorly, that even as an experienced buyer and seller could not find them. All of the houses together sold for less than just one of them should have brought.
EBTH is best at serving... EBTH. Not the buyer or the seller!
Sent To EBTH: I had an issue on Tuesday 1/24/17 that I felt needed to be reported to you. I arrived at the Blue Ash location to pick up an item. It was supposed to start at 3:30, I was there at 3:15 and there were about 20 people in front of me. Nobody was complaining and most people were taking to other people in line. All at once a loud voice was heard and we all turned to the area of cashiers. The man (I certainly cannot call him gentleman) was berating a "runner" for taking 2 packages to a clients car. He said (and I quote) I don't care how many little old ladies are here, you do not take packages to cars. It will slow down the process. You pick it up and put it here next to the cashier area. After they sign they can carry it out - not you! Do you get it? 1. It was embarrassing to watch this person talked to in a very insulting voice. 2. I was one of the little old ladies standing in line. When my item came, I put it on the floor to push it out. I usually bring a cart to use for my items, but I had forgotten it. The cashier said "do you want help?' I said " No Way!, I don't want anyone to get in trouble.", She smiled and nodded. As I put it on the floor 6 people came out of line to say they would carry it. The woman who picked it up said she has been coming a long time and had never heard anything like that before, I agreed. I have been participating in your auctions since one year after you became a business. I have always been very pleased with every person in our employ until now. A woman several people in front of me was embarrassed also by this guy because she did not have her invoice number. She had downloaded the wrong page to her phone. For years, I have seen people give their name and usually what they were picking up or how many items were being picked up. If you are changing the policy of what is needed that should be in print when sale is completed, so they do not have to be embarrassed by this "jerk' in front of everyone. He was rude the last time I saw him, but nothing like yesterday. He is a fairly tall white man with a long ponytail. I am one of the "little old ladies" who do business with you - I am 72 years old and in the last 7 years I have had both knees replaced, one - twice and a hip replacement. I need a cane to walk and am not used to be referenced this way. I know that at least 30 people in line were dismayed at his actions. I will share the experience with my friends and I hope you will address this with him. I am a retired Quality Improvement nurse and this type of behavior is not excusable.
I have purchased several items from this site and have been pretty satisfied that I got what I paid for. BUT KNOW THIS: all the complaints about their shipping are true. VERY pricey and no help if you plan to pick up but get delayed. This last purchase may be my last: Bought local w every intention of getting to site to pick up two large items (a large mirror and a bedside table. I don't buy anything big or heavy that needs shipping, only if I can drive to get it.)
Work + long funeral = missed pick up. Called that night to say I live locally and can come pick items up at shipping warehouse. Days later got a call back... so sorry... it's already gone to shipping. 4 weeks and $280 extra later, my stuff arrives. The shipping doubled the cost of my items and I could have had them the next day.
Unless you are getting something small or are absolutely DEAD CERTAIN you can get to the home to retrieve your items, I'd say pass.
I get daily emails form them and despite 4 attempts to unsubscribe over the course of 2 weeks, I am STILL getting these blasted emails. They're like gnats. Keep swatting but they keep buzzing around. I also have to try to figure out how to get their pop ups off my internet. Their ads are on every page I go to. SO ANNOYING.
I have used EBTH for a number of large items in the past. Last week I was unable to meet a pick up date due to ice storm across the entire Midwest. Customer service has been dismissive and unhelpful even though I called ahead of time and tried to make alternate arrangements. One employee told me that they are going to change the rules so that if you miss a pick up you forfeit. Be careful what you bid on!
A 1,000 pages would NOT be enough to tell you my horrifying story and experience with EBTH?
It's been like an awaken nightmare.
This people are careless, unprofessional and inexperienced and all in all CROOKS. They give you the lamest excuses or give you NO conversation, no communication or explanation for the behaviors and tact's. They are callous, selfish & dishonest it is a perfect "bait & switch" situation. DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THEM! DO NOT
Do you have a 1,000 pages available? It's been like an awaken nightmare. This people are careless. When something bad happened with your experience, they couldn't care less. They give you the lamest excuses to get out of it. They are callous, selfish & dishonest it is a perfect "bait & switch" situation. Get out of it while you can!
Put in a bid. The instant that bid is logged, you are out bid. It took longer to bid than to be out bid! The higher bid is just high enough to encourage further bidding. It is naive to believe EBTH does not have a selling price 'in mind' for each item. That EBTH would work to 'drive' the auction is well within the realm of commercial reality. Too bad, there are some really nice pieces, but, not interested in 'playing their game.'
I have won many auctions, and I suspected that sometimes they "allow " people to win.
The other issue is getting them to ship your item.
I have one item that I won on Nov. 30th... still not even ready to ship!
The shipping fees are outrageously high.
Tonight was the last straw! The suction was down to
2 minutes.
I had been bidding on it for 4 days.
I went to bid, and I couldn't get the bid in.
The "bid" button was pale black, not black, and no reaction after I tried many times!
I had time to bid, but, I could not!
I'm done...
I bought 2 full size baker sofas a armoire and 2 chairs. Upon arrival at warehouse no one from EBTH was there. No problem I was early. When they did arrive no one knew where the stuff was. Not the warehouse and not the low level employees. 2 hours later they found the crate upon getting home I realized I was missing the 4 couch pillows. But still I would buy from them again. You go through the headache for the good deal.
Great marketing and a great web site. Unfortunately they don't complete the transactions well. They misidentified one item out of three in one bid. A second bid had an item missing when the box arrived. The shipping is too expensive, it is poorly defined, and it is very slow. I have asked them to close my account.
I bid on a pair of gold and diamond earrings. The pics made the diamonds look like a decent size it stated it was half a carat but when I received them I was shocked I got scammed The diamonds are tiny and I overpaid for something I could have purchased new for a quarter of the price. Buyers Beware
Conceptually this idea is great unless you plan on buying anything that needs to be plugged in or has the option of not working. Although the description might make you think that the item has been plugged in it has not been as was the situation with mine and also in my situation there was no pre-inspection available so you're buying it sight unseen. Very Disappointed!
My two purchases were seriously delayed, but finally arrived 30+ days after the auctions closed. Payment is expected immediately, which is fine. I had to contact them to get the items shipped. When the boxes arrived containing antique tables, each box had damaged items. Not just scratches or dings--broken legs and one table was in about 10 pieces. I immediately contacted them, and they got back a week later and informed me I needed pictures of the boxes, descriptions of the layouts of the items in the boxes, pictures of the rest of the packaging. I'd send pictures of the damaged tables with my notification to them of damage. Since I'd already tossed the cardboard boxes and plastic wrap packaging I was unable to comply, so have to keep damaged goods. I will NEVER buy from them again regardless of how wonderful the items may be. EBay would NEVER allow this to happen.
The Pits. As a consignor with EBTH, you are marginalized and minimized. They seem to resent your questions and and often times even seem to hate you; Yeah, their customer who is awarding them 35 %. I was rebuffed Day 3 and told I was literally a " nuisance" and that I was slowing the "process" down, even though Day One, the EBTH employees were two and a half hours late, ill prepared to begin the job, and in pissy moods. The main photographer, chapped and bitter remarked how he hated working for EBTH and what a joke the company was... that it was schizophrenic... I was like, "Wow, you're kidding, right?" But sadly, no. And it gets worse from there. No tags to label and affix information gathered by employees were available on day one, so an emergency call, for tags was made. Work slowed to a crawl. Then the main complaining photographer grumbled and complained even more and discussed a meeting he wanted to set up with another potential employer somewhere else in Los Angeles so he could "get away from EBTH". A series of texts were sent to different employees... witnessing each one get a different text of some sort... weird... run a team by text... uh, okay... Day two back drops came into question. They like white on white for a "look" but unfortunately many items I had were white and they did not lend themselves to this white on white look so. A pale blue or a pale grey was suggested and of course rejected, later the reality accepted and then photographer and asst. Had to leave the site for well over three and a half hours to obtain said backdrops... waste of time, people, resources, and my patience. It went on and on with the photographer pulling a "diva" on day three and walking out/off... what a piece of work. Absolutely the worst, company did not apologize or care... callled Vice President on the 20th of December 2016... still haven't heard from the clown... Say NO to EBTH to consign your things... there has to be someone BETTER than this outfit...
This EBTH Auction site is very fun to experience at first. However, once you purchase anything, it takes 3 to 4 weeks to arrive. Two items in the last 30 days have been broken. And, the customer service girl that answers the phone, refuses to help, and is quite rude. Just an overall horrible company. I would use extreme caution if you intend to purchase any item on the site. L. C.
Bought a silver gravy boat--condition listed as "good-tarnish". When it arrived, it had seven dents, a severe crease and all three legs were pushed up into the body with one leg being so bent, the gravy boat could not stand level. I returned it as I said they had a misleading description. They refused to return my $$$ and sent the piece back to me. So I overpaid for a piece of junk. Basically scrap. There needs to be some way of rating performance like on eBay. Keeps everybody honest. Hmmm... maybe that's why they don't have a rating location.
If i could give 0.01 star, i would! Shipment is reall bad, it's close to a month and still haven't got my item yet. They have pulled the payment for the item on the day of the auction ended and they pulled the shipment fee the day after that. Contacted customer service and i got the impression that they dont have a clue on what's going on. After calling the CS, they emailed a generic shipping label and still no item. Very effecient at taking your money but VERY INEFFECIENT on everything else!
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
