The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

I have acquired many items for EBTH. Descriptions are almost always cryptic so you buy on a leap of faith. I have been disappointed may times. Shipping costs are stratospheric with no rhyme or reason. Boxes are almost always falling apart. Packing is extremely messy and generally overkill. Today I am still waiting for an item. Two weeks since the auction ended. They can't seem to locate it. I'm done.
I bid on a set of chairs that were labeled "Vintage set of arrow back chairs" and were part of an auction that contained many truly vintage and antique items and Americana. There were 11 pictures of these chairs - 11! - and not one showed the undersides of the seats, which were clearly marked "Made in Malaysia".
When I emailed to complain, they claimed that the chairs were over 20 years old and thus qualified for the label "vintage". Oh, please. How do they know those chairs were that age? I've got a cheap set of "Windsor" chairs that I bought over 20 years ago myself, and I would never label them as "vintage" if I tried selling them. The "customer service specialist" wrote "we provide all the information that we can for each listing", but obviously they don't provide plainly visible information that would have lowered the perceived value of the item. I call that misleading. You can be sure that if the chairs were signed by some famous chair maker, they would not have left that nugget of information out, lest people underbid. Judge for yourself: https://www.ebth.com/items/*******-vintage-set-of-arrow-back-chairs
So now I'm stuck with chairs that I'll never be able to sell for what I paid. Too bad I didn't read all the other reviews here before bidding. For anyone else, you've been warned. And be aware that for sales in NJ that provide pickup from a moving warehouse, not only do you pay $30 per lot for that privilege, but it's taxable, too, so tack on another $2.
EBTH will describe an item as in good condition even when it is missing pieces! They don't have good descriptions, they don't take pictures of the really bad damage on items and they have outrageous shipping costs. We got nowhere with customer service. This auction company is a ripoff!
We do a lot of purchasing 20,000 to 30.000 yearly on Ebay. Thought I would try EBTH First item I won took over a month to get. Second item never got after nearly a month. Finally after many phone calls to EBTH they said item was damaged before shipment. They never contacted me to let me know this had happened. Also contacted them couple times about tax exemption for our retail business. They said they will get back to us. Never got a response back. Probably will not deal with them again. Wasted too much of my time.
I have been buying from EBTH for about a year. The final. Bidding cost has increasingly become inordinately HIGH and the shipping costs are ridiculous... 3 Pottery Barn pillows cost $24 but the shipping from Ohio to Indiana: over $33! I M DONE and if you complain they don't do a darn thing to rectify.
I've had good success purchasing small items via this company, but just know that shipping is based on the value of the piece, not on the distance. For example, a vintage dresser in good condition but not particularly valuable might ship for $150, while a similar brand-name piece will ship from the same sale to the same destination for twice that amount or more. No doubt this is to ensure a minimum profit, but for an auction site, this is not cool.
I had to cancel my debit card and file a fraud charge with my bank costing me 30 dollars and 3 hours of bull $#*! and stress.
They had no permission to charge my account I have written documentation of this and I have been upset for three days. These people are con artists and there Customer service is terrible. They sell lots of fakes and commit fraud on a regular basis after the reviews I have read. File a claim with ripoff report it will destroy the company
I was outbid on an item that went over my max bid, so I deleted it from my "Bidding" section so I wouldn't get confused. A week later, after winning, a bid, I noticed it said I had won something else (despite not being notified through the site or authorizing any purchase) So I emailed them and never heard back from them. I gave them a call after winning 2 more bids because the shipping costs were almost as much as the items and NONE of the costs made sense or was itemized. It costs less to ship a heavier item from CA to MI than it did to ship a smaller, lighter item from OH to MI.
When I called the website to figure out what had happened, they said that they have records of everything and that their shipping costs were the actual cost. (that's a lie) I did 100% authorize and win a bid that I was happy to pay the shipping costs on, but they lied about the shipping costs of the other items. And even if I somehow was wrong about that, the costs still don't add up or make any sense.
This site is a cash grab scam who cares not one iota about their customers rights as a consumer. If you doubt that, go ahead and read there terms and agreements. It's atrocious. (and they don't explain everything, so it's also misrepresentation)
Have purchased a couple of items and the shipping is incredibly expensive and slow. The 10 days they refer to as shipping after you pay are business days so 2 to 3 weeks before it leaves the site.
When I won an auction for an Edison Amberola 30 tabletop antique phonograph and some cylinders to play, the shipping cost at check out was $171. This is to ship an item that is not much bigger than a breadbox and weights about 30 lbs. from Cincinnati to St. Louis. The cylinders are light and easily protected with standard bubble and air wrap. Shipping prices on eBay typically are less that $100. When I contacted consumer service, they said it is what it is and there is no negotiation, and that I should checked the shipping quote before bidding. Always a rule to catch you! I feel fleeced and ripped off. I should have check the online reviews before doing business. My mistake.
Love, Love, Love this web site, always new items, vintage, antique, new, service is perfect, people are nice, I keep buying and I will go on
EBTH is an online auction portal. Unfortunately, their business model does not include customer service, or customer satisfaction for the buyer. I will immediately cease business with this #socalledbusiness. There are plenty of companies, doing the same thing, which want to earn the buyers business. Buyer beware! They are a slick little bunch of unprofessional shysters.
I purchased 17 baseball cards for $1 each for a total of $17. All 17 cards were on the same invoice and shipped from the same facility. The charged me $95.00 for shipping because they shipped each card in a separate box! I contacted them with no results. They informed me that each card was a separate bid, therefore, a separate shipment. Save yourself some money and do not do business with this company.
I was going to hire EBTH at a 40% commission rate until I read their contract. If one of their staff breaks or damages your valuables, even after they packed and shipped it, the contract says that the consignor is responsible for making a claim with their own insurance company (which means you pay the deductible!). Their contract says you will be charged a $3,000 (!) cancellation fee if you cancel 21 days prior to the sale -- even before they did any work! They also will charge you for identifying items (after the 15th one) and may charge you for additional advertising, plus extra costs for shipping (presumably if they didn't charge the buyer enough). Since they control the payments, they can charge you whatever they want out of your 60% (or more -- I had to talk them DOWN to 40%). Also, if you have any legal claims, you will have to file in OHIO! After reading their contract, I decided NOT to use their services.
They misrepresent Items a great deal. If it is listed in good condition do not believe it.
Shipping is extremely slow and expensive. Customer service will not help. STAY AWAY FROM THEM
Terrible customer service. Unprofessional company. Shipping is very high. Misrepresent items that are up for sale. Very bad reviews on BBB website. They need to be reported to the Federal Trade Commission.
I have purchased two items through EBTH. One, a coat, was as described. The shipping cost was higher that the average eBay transaction, but I did get a tracking number right away and received the coat a day earlier than estimated. Unfortunately, that is not how the other transaction has unfolded. That was a ring purchased and paid for on January 15,2017. Today, February 3,2017, after TWO emails complaining about not receiving my paid-for item the site has finally updated to indicate that it has been shipped. Nineteen days to send the item I paid for seconds after the auction ended. It gets better. They charged $14.70 to mail a ring that weighs nothing - and this is not priority mail; no tracking number, no indication of when it will arrive. This has been an annoying and frustrating experience. The shipping charges are inexplicably high - with no options - and the service is abysmal (nineteen days to put something in the mail!?!?!?!). This company needs to figure its shipping out. Not ready for prime time. I will be closing my account. I can buy something on Amazon or eBay or Nordstrom or ANYWHERE ELSE and have the thing in two days. I just bought a marble chess set - 25 pounds - and I had it in five days from farther away. Not happy with EBTH.
How often EBTH can't locate your order? It happened to me twice in a month. One is because their shipping quote was low. After I report to BBB, they shipped it to me right away.
What an amazing company!
Prices change for shipping. Piss Poor Quality on both bracelets that I purchased. I bought a knockoff David Yurman bracelet that is such poor quality and the price was too high for this horrible quality. I could have bought something of this quality from a street vendor in Manhattan or Chinatown. Horrible.
Second bracelet you can see the soldering marks and the rough edges actually cut into my wrist.
You are told one price for shipping and charged a different price. When I sent an email regarding the shipping no one got back to me. I had to call. When I called about the quality, someone called but said nothing. Really had no answer and never got back to me. I would NEVER USE THIS SIGHT AGAIN!
OVER PRICED CRAP QUALITY!
I have purchased from EBTH and recently found my account locked. When I called, they held me responsible for an account with someone else who had used my name, given they are more people with the same name, they have banned me from shopping with them. I do not recommend using this company at all. They do not want you to pick the items up, because they want to charge expensive shipping rates with all my other friends who may have a kid sick or something. They charge your credit card anything they want as well from the group of people that have complained about them.
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
