The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

Do not bid, it is a scam. Buy a small $8 item and they will hit you with a $40 to $50 shipping cost on a plate! No kidding. I mean a regular dinner plate. $42!
Won a bid and received someone else's order in the same box as ours. Realized it because there was another packing slip with the person's name, address and phone number on it and it said 1 box of 2. We did not get box 2. Called EBTH to let them know what had happened and they were very rude, never said thank you for being honest or sorry for your trouble, just that they would send a return label. In letting the recipient know what was going on, found that the person needed the box within the next couple of days for a gift, so we mailed it to her. The woman called to let EBTH know that she never received the second box. EBTH banned us from the site and is accusing us of stealing the second package that they mailed to someone else. If you check out the BBB's - "A" rating for EBTH, make sure to look at the reviews and complaints. There are more negatives and complaints than positives.
After my mother passed away I was left with a great deal of collectibles. I tried on my own to give them to family or to sell them. No luck. I then tried EBTH and was very pleased with the outcome.
My expectations were properly set at the beginning. The entire process was handled very efficiently and professionally. The people who came into the home to catalogue and photograph the items were respectful and professional. I made more money than I expected but more importantly to me my mothers collectibles were purchased by people who had an interest in them and valued them. I highly recommend EBTH to all of my friends and family needing to liquidate.
For serious collectors and shoppers this site is great. The items are as pictured and there is no assertion that an item is what it isn't. This is especially helpful when purchasing jewelry. I have purchased over 50 items from this site and have been pleased with 95% of them. The other 5% I misread the description and one was an honest error for which I was compensated. The shipping may be a bit sluggish but for the most part I pick my items up. Even when I do have the item shipped the item is definitely worth the wait! A couple of times I have felt the shipping was outrageous, so I called customer service and it was fixed. I have has very good experiences with this site and most assuredly recommend it!
Listed in Louisville, Kentucky but shipped from Blue Ash, Ohio? You list large furniture in Louisville, or an ENTIRE AUCTION, yet everything is being shipped from Blue Ash, Ohio. Why don't you just list the auction as "Blue Ash, Ohio"? I have tried to wrap my head around this and I truly don't understand. I have purchased items from you before and they were at a local warehouse on Bluegrass Parkway now some items are being shipped out of state. I just don't get it.
Do not use this company! They do not ship the item after taking your money! They are terrible and everyone should stay away! Read the reviews and look at the BBB reviews. The BBB gives them a A+ rating because EBTH pays for it, but read the reviews. EBTH is terrible!
Its a shame that the shipping costs are so outrageous. This would be a nice service however the cost of the shipping is so ridiculous it drives down the bids for the items in the auction creating a great loss for the clients selling their estate. I have reviewed hundreds of items and many times the shipping ends up being 10 times greater than the market value of the auction items. Its really not worth bidding due to the high shipping cost.
Ive seen roughly 4 million gorgeous items Ive DREAMED about bidding on, but theres no way in Hell Im paying $48.13 to ship a 12 x 16 print (not even framed) from Lexington to Pittsburgh.
When I first discovered this site, I developed a crush that would render any preteen girl jealous. How could you not? Look at all of this exquisite merchandise just oozing everywhere! And at rock bottom prices! And, since EBTH isnt yet the behemoth that eBay is, you have an ACTUAL CHANCE of winning your auction.
But, as the relationship with EBTH continued, my preteen crush began to deteriorate
First it was the shipping. Its obvious EBTH is looking to make their profit on exorbitant shipping. Which is a shame because it completely dissuades me from bidding. But like the desperate preteen hanging onto the idea of my crush, I made excuses ok, Ill just focus on Pittsburgh auctions and pick up my items in my city. Until I found out most items in Pittsburgh get sent to Blue Ash, OH. And the remainder? They get sent to a warehouse more than an hour outside of Pittsburgh. So, pay outrageous shipping or take a 2 hour round trip in a narrow window of time to retrieve my item?
Forget it. Maybe someday Ill find a crush worth obsessing over.
I have "won" 3 items this month but they have yet to ship. What I have noticed though is, watch out for the "vultures". There is a link to "sales ending" and my theory is that dealers wait to pick off those who think they may have gotten a good deal. The vultures wait until the last minutes and pick a price just high enough to win your item. So if you aren't diligent that last hour(even last seconds!) you WILL lose. So know that this is not a place for bargains, and be willing to pay, meaning put your high Bid in appropriately, for what you really love. That being said, after having read the rest of these reviews I hope I actually receive, INTACT, things I have won.
I've won auctions at several EBTH locations in the U.S. and for the most part been happy. With that said, the Cincinnati location is terrible after the sale! My latest purchase has led me to the conclusion that I WON'T ever buy from them again. I bought a watch box and after 14 days I am still waiting for it to be boxed up for shipping... POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE once you've paid!
I have purchased three items - and had problems with all three. I figure fool me once but the third time now and they've lost any future business. Shipping is exorbitant. I did not bid on several auctions - why would I pay $122 to ship a 7 lb. Early American coverlet? I sent EBTH a question and got back an auto answer that didn't even address my question. I purchased an item and it took them three weeks to ship and another week to arrive. Their response was to say that they try to ship within 10 business days and that getting to the PO is sometime challenging. In looking at their warehouse site for that auction it turns out that the Post Office is WITHIN the SAME block! The last two auctions make me think that they are playing games with their bidding. First, they automatically extend if anyone bids within the last five minutes - I have been extended nearly 30 minutes beyond the sale close to the end that my "winning bid" was nearly double what it would have been had the auction closed on time. Coincidentally, IN BOTH cases, the final bid price just happened to be my maximum bid - made prior to the first extension. Possible? Probable? No way to know for sure, but I no longer trust EBTH and suggest that until they fix their gouging customers on shipping, answer questions in a timely manner, and DESIST in extending auctions (what a crock/crook), you will be better off taking your money elsewhere.
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY! My package is NO WHERE TO BE FOUND even though I paid the full amount as soon as I won it! That was a MONTH AGO! No one has given me a straight answer about it!
I don't get all the bad reviews either, I've bought eight times from sales in Atlanta, New York and Austin, half shipping and half pickup. My items were always exactly as described if not better, and I was aware of shipping before I purchased so if some shipping was high I wouldn't bid on the item. It's not like they surprise you with the shipping. Meanwhile shipping was always reasonable for my shipped items. I had one item that took a few weeks to ship and the cust. Service people were great - very professional and knew exactly what was going on with my item. I love this site.
I am so shocked at the poor reviews regarding the EBTH. I have furnished my home with one-of-a-kind pieces that are beautiful and I couldn't have otherwise afforded. I try to buy within driving distance of my house so I don't have to pay shipping but I have had items shipped from out-of-town. Out of all the glass items I've bought and had shipped, only one piece has broken and I had a refund within in a day. It's, true, some items are damaged but they've always been identified in the description and photographs. It's an auction... read carefully and go see it at a preview if available. If there's any question in your mind, don't bid on it. And yes, sometimes is takes a while to ship it if you know this, you won't be surprised. I'd rather have my things packed right so they arrive in one piece and have no problem with their shipping timing. If you're under time constraints to receive it, buy a gift or whatever somewhere else. I am so grateful I found this site and will keep buying from them until I run out of room.
I have this rule... 3 stricks and your out! EBTH just earned their 3rd struck with me!
I won the auction of 3 German antique Kugals. In the photo and in the discriiption one of the tops was off and laying to the side but could be easily glued back on.
When the box arrived the 3 Kugals were there but the top to the one was not! I immediately called customer service and was told they would look for it and get back to me. I received a call a week later and was told that they were still looking. That was 8 weeks ago. I paid for 3 but one is worthless. I'm totally done with EBTH
Believe all the reviews, customer service is rude beyond belief, they could care less about you. Shipping is beyond slow. They charged me premium shipping, took two weeks to ship the item and ten sent it through standard mail at economy rate. Stay away from these folks, you will regret if you dont.
They give you an estimated shipping cost based upon your zip code and mention that the price will be adjusted for multiple items from the same auction. Now the estimate seems a little high but one would assume that is so they don't underestimate when you get the true shipping cost.
I won two items that I had intended to be gifts. I went to pay for my items and found I had two options: a) pick up my items on a set day during a set, narrow. Time window which would have necessitated my leaving work early and dealing with heavy rush hour traffic or b) pay $68 to have an 11-pound box shipped less than 50 miles. Although I was not pleased with the absurd shipping cost I figured it was better than the time, stress, and hassle involved with trying to pick up the items.
On day 3 I received an email saying my items were being prepared for shipment and I would soon receive an email with a tracking number. On day 9 I inquired about the status of my shipment because nothing had been updated since day 3. That's when I had the pleasure of encountering their horrible customer service. Absolutely no concern for the customer at all. All this person was capable of doing was stating policy. I honestly do not know why this company even bothers employing a customer service department because EVERYTHING they said I already read for myself on their website.
This person ticked me off to the point that I immediately filed a dispute with my credit card company.
I don't hear anything else until day 14 I get an email with a tracking number. Day 15 there is a box sitting at my front door. So now I no longer need the purchase because the day it was to be gifted has passed. I'm not even sure if I want to open the box since I have a dispute pending. I've even thought about just claiming I never received it but the integrity I was raised with won't let me do it.
So, long story short, they took 15 days to ship me an 11-pound box less than 50 miles for a whopping $68. Insulting in an age when I can get an item weighing 10 times as much shipped to me the next day for free. They do not cut you a break on shipping which only means they are using the difference between the actual cost and what they charge to pad the bottom line and their concern for their customers is laughable at best.
My first and last purchased from this company and I cannot in good conscience recommend anybody doing business with them. I am thankful at this point that the no less than 10 other items I wanted I was outbid on. I am looking for every website I can find such as this so I can spread the word.
I worked in retail for 10 years, and because of that experience I was approach customer service with a great attitude. That great attitude is impossible to keep because they can't help but communicate in the most condescending and patronising way. It is like they are trying to wind up their customer.
I originally called to resolve a small problem and it quickly escalated. I explained that I am the most laid back person who has never once complained. I never complained when items I purchased photographed better than in person... they talked back to that statement. Told them that I didn't complain when I purchased 3 items from the same estate sale and received zero discount for combined shipping... they attacked that statement. Then I told them that their shipping was "bonkers", and they started to attack that statement. Next thing I know I am going back and forth over shipping, which had nothing to do with my complaint, but the customer service representative couldn't help setting me straight on everything I said. BTW, their shipping is insane. I live in Houston and a quilt from Dallas would have been $300, but i was quoted $20 for a metal sewing machine from Ohio. I am over this company. Not worth the hassle.
It might look tempting and yes you can find some cool stUff, MAYBE even a good price, but their company does not value you at all and will treat you very rudely!
Please stay far, far away from this horrible company! They do not value their customers and will not do anything to help you when there is a problem. I only found this company about a month ago and did a few purchases from them. I was happy until THEIR system placed a bid on an item and when I called in to get help they were completely rude and unhelpful. They refused to let me talk to a supervisor or offer any customer relations. They blocked my account before the item was even supposed to be paid for, so I had to call in and paid for it. Yes, I did pay for the item even though I did not bid on it. They said they would unblock my account and took the payment. The next day my account was blocked again. I called back about the suspension and they would not give me a reason or transfer my call to anyone. They just said my account was closed. I cannot believe they have so little respect or value for their customers. Even without me being blocked, which is completely ridiculous, I would NOT give them even a penny more of my money! I have now read the other comments and agree 100% their customer service is HORRIBLE, be warned!
They are the worst to buy from. Their customer service will not respond and their shipping is terrible. I have closed my account and will never buy from them again!
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
